I’ve been using Jane Iredale Pressed Powder Foundation for a year now. I LOVE IT!! So easy to apply.. looks natural and lasts all day. I’m 70 and had been using Este Lauder Double Wear for years but the foundation started to feel so heavy to me. And yes, I use the BK Beauty brushes that Lisa discussed in this video. Thank you Lisa!
thank you for knowing how to correctly use the ambient lighting powders. I've seen so many you tubers using them incorrectly and then saying its a bad product. they either use them to set the makeup or think its supposed to be an actual highlighter. It is so annoying when they review a product they haven't actually researched first.
I find that Kosas Cloud Set doubles as a setting and finishing powder, too. It's in pressed form and the best setting powder I've ever used that also blurs texture. I have normal to dry skin.
This was another great tutorial, Lisa! At 70 I am relearning how to apply makeup. What worked for me in my younger days doesn’t look the same. I was a lifetime user of Bare Escentuals Mineral powders. Thank you, this was enjoyable and extremely helpful!
I didn’t realize there is a difference between finishing powders and setting! Such a lightbulb moment for me right now 😂Thank you for this educational video. Love it! 🫶
I very recently started using Jane Iredale pressed powder foundation on my 72 year old skin, and I love it! Even after a full day’s wear, it looks great and does not settle in any of my lines and wrinkles. The color is a great match for my skin, and I actually need MUCH less concealer when using this foundation.
Angie at Hot & Flashy got me started with this as a setting powder: NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Mineral Matte Finishing Powder, Loose Setting Powder - Light/Medium.
Talking about powder foundations - I don't believe there is a single one out there that compares to the OG Bare Minerals powder foundation, in combo with the Well-Rested under eye concealer. It is just so beautiful, and so easily adjusted for various coverage levels, and seems absolutely MADE for mature skin. ❤
You can also alter the finish and coverage by changing your brush type. A full, soft tapered face brush gives a sheer coverage, luminous finish; a dense, soft, domed kabuki gives a light to medium coverage, polished satin finish; and a Taklon, paintbrush-like foundation brush gives a maximum coverage, more matte finish. I started using bareMinerals about 25 years ago and wrote instructions on how to use to help ladies who weren't sure how to apply it, since the packaging had minimal directions. Well Rested is awesome for concealer. I like the Summer Bisque for concealer, too. 🥰
Thank you so, so much for explaining how to apply powder foundations. I finally managed to apply my Natasha Denona Hy Glam powder foundation in a way that I like it. The 104 B K Beauty brush is essential❤
This is a very informative video. Just a comment as a mature woman, setting powders that are primarily mica based look terrible on my skin. They literally highlight every pore and wrinkle. I’ve found that using a very small amount of a talc based powder is much more blurring.
I love the prisme libre loose powder,i splashed out after seeing so many on yiurtube rave about it, and im glad i did. I also carry the fenty pressed translucent powder in my bag and use sparingly as needed throughout the day. ❤
Thank you Lisa!! These are my favorite videos of yours where you just sit and teach us! I find them so very helpful! And my daughters watch with me which is a bonus! 💕💙
Increadbly informative. I got bk beaty brushes befor I discovered your channel and didn't realise that you owned the company. Brushes are so soft and I am so impressed that I could get them shipped to Europe. Small thing but sometimes the biggest obsticle to getting things.
Sooo helpful!! My face texture has changed how my usual makeup routine has been working for me after I turned 40 earlier this year, gonna try just powdering around the perimeter of my cheeks instead of powdering everywhere. I think that’s why my liquid blush/powder blush has been going on kinda splotchy or too pigmented no matter how little I apply. Normally have to buff it out if I remember, usually I’m rushing most mornings. I’ll have to build muscle memory for this though; I do my usual routine without thinking which makes it easier on my brain! Gonna have to remind it not to powder my cheeks 😅 love the hourglass ambient lighting powders! Thanks for the reminder, gonna keep using the one I have, hardly made a dent in it. Had it for almost 4 years 😆
A dupe for the prisme libre powder I think is the new tarte creaseless powder! The only difference I can detect is that it doesn't not have any shimmer particles that the givenchy has which could be a plus if you don't like shimmer. It also doesn't have fragrance. The finish is the same!
Outlining the points on side screen is very helpful. My mature combo oily skin gets cakey with multiple layers of powder: setting, finishing. I will need to try Givenchy, Ciele (tho i wish it came in a tube like other spf powders), the HG may exaggerate my texture
Moira makes a good affordable option to the Givenchy powder. It's got three colors to blend instead of four, but it's a good alternative for those of us on a stricter budget.
Good topic. I have often been confused when I see someone use one powder after foundation and concealer, and then a different powder when everything has been applied.
Hi, Great Video. Shouldn't we avoid all Talc in powders? I personally do not like the feel of talc and am very limited in products since that is what most brand use. Any Talc Free suggestions?
Hi Lisa! Thank you so so much for this powder video! So informational! I always wondered if I have to set my powder foundation and now I know. I do sometimes use a little finishing powder to mattify my oily areas and for touch ups. I love the Jane I. Foundation❤ ever since you recommended it. Other alternatives I use are the PUR 4 in 1 powder foundation and the MAC studio plus powder. The PUR leaves a similar finish as J.I. ,after setting spray. The MAC is a little heavy at times but ever since I used your 106 brush (😍 it btw) it spreads out lighter and better. ❤❤❤
Just wondering if you are familiar with the Jane Iredale LOOSE powder mineral make up?I have been using it for a couple weeks since I tend to like the loose powder lighter coverage on my very mature 68 year old skin!
So do the products that contain talc have any asbestos in them? And is there a way to find out if the companies have tested for them to be asbestos free?
Don’t nothing about makeup but went to Sephora and sold me a dermablend loose powder. I am 63 Iis dry on my skin. I learned with you to applied where needed. But still no happy. Need a compact to re touch on a 10 hr shift.
Thanks, Lisa for such an informative video. I currently use the Amazing Base loose powder foundation from Jane Iredale, but may try their powder foundation to get a little more coverage. A couple of other products tweaked my interest too. Great video!
Lisa I'm attending a black tie event in 3week, my first, in three weeks. They will be taking pictures. I'm trying to decide the best setting powder to use. It's an evening event. I'm 63 with some wrinkles and large pores. I sweat a lot for some reason. I am on a fixed income. I need a suggestion for a good setting powder. What would you recommend? I can do a travel size if a more expensive product I can possibly swing it. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
I absolutely love Laura Gellar powdered foundation! I'm 65 with normal skin. I use Colorscience tinted spf 50 first (after skin care) then I use Laura Gellars powdered foundation with a BK Beauty brush but I'm not sure what number it is. It looks great! And, I don't have to use a setting powder! I loved this video. I needed the eye setting powder. I have the NLR N17 brush! I have that Prisme Libre powder but its the small one and I dont know how to use it. If I am setting, I use Laura Mercier Translucent. What's your best recommendation for setting concealer on 65 year old kinda wrinkled skin?
Hi I’m 60 and find that the Prisme Libre is the best for under the eyes. Just pour some powder in the cap and with a small fluffy brush swirl the powder to mix all the colours together and press it gently under the eyes. You can use a blending eye shadow brush that is a little bit bigger but it has to be soft. Hope this helps ❤
Im 44 and my face is super dry even with a moisturizer...my question is do I need a setting powder over my foundation and if so which one is the best for dryer mature skin ?
Have you ever tried Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder? Okay, I know most Tarte products are just not great, and I wouldn’t buy many (if any) of them) but I tried it years ago and it’s beautiful and silky smooth and leaves a beautiful smooth translucent finish that is light and and great on my combo skin, and now that Givenchy has reformulated their perfect classic I’m going back to this because although I do have a couple of the Hourglass ones, I don’t always want the sheen they have (like in the summer months!) and the only other closest dupe to the Tarte is MUF HD Microfine powder.
What is the best power for under the eyes to take away shine from concealer? I have wrinkles. I use Westman Atellier and I have Givenchy finishing powder.
I’ve been waiting to use up my current products to try JI products. I’ve been using loose BareMinerals in shades fairly light / fairly medium, and liquid Bobbi Brown weightless foundation in N032 sand that I’ve loved but they changed their foundation. What do you think about JI matte liquid foundation❓🙋♀️. Do you recommend any shades with what I’ve been using❓ I don’t have local JI department store locally. . So you need a pressed or loose, appreciate that. I’m 64, still oily but good neutral toned complexion. Love your brushes‼️ Thanks
Thank you! I am so happy you are enjoying the brushes! :) Jane Iredale has a very helpful customer service team, if you reach out I know they would be happy to help.
Hi Lisa, What is the difference between a setting and finishing powder? I thought they were the same. Also, How do we choose which color in the Givenchy powder? Thanks
Thanks so much for this video! I am always wondering what to get. I am 52 and need something to keep everything in place. I am considering trying a finishing powder because I need to set it, but I don't want it to get cakey. Something I keep seeing is banana powder. Is that a color corrector like the pink and peach?
I use the Laura Mercier talc-free loose setting powder, but my face gets shiny and oily throughout the day. What would you recommend as a translucent pressed powder to use for touchup to help mattifye?
Hi Lisa, can you help me when to use powder to set my under eyes? If i use only a color corrector under eyes do i set this? If i use a color corrector and a concealer, do i use a powder after the corrector AND after the concealer? I have pretty dry under eyes but combo skin otherwise.. I’m using the Givency powder, Dr Harrt color corrector (i have red under eyes) and Saie concealer.. thank you, Joanne from Boston
I have trouble with the JL accentuating my texture, which I actually don’t have that much of. I tried to learn if it was a problem with the way I was applying it, and learned that you should apply it in a downward sweeping motion so that the powder lays “flat”. Is their brush best for that? Does anyone know? Am willing to give it another go if this was an issue for others, who then found success with the JL brush and the application technique they recommend.
If I am using all over, I use the BK 104, if just under the eyes or center of face, the 108 or 113 (both are great but the 113 is flatter and better for smaller areas, 108 fluffier and a little larger (but still small for a face brush)
I am so confused about the Charlotte Tilbury airbrush powder is it a setting powder or a finishing powder? Its the shade 2 so it must have color to be anything but a powder foundation. Help please its not cheap and i got it thinking it was a finishing powder
Great video, thank you Lisa! I have an issue maybe you can help me with -- I have deep hooded yes -- I always apply an eyelid primer or concealer base followed by a loose, finely milled setting powder prior to my eyeshadows, however no matter what I do my eyeshadow moves into my creases! Should I be applying a setting powder to my eyelids AFTER I do my eyeshadow look??
I'm a promua and have hooded eyes too🙌 You can try using a pressed powder first instead of concealor as your base, unless you prefer full coverage✨️Be careful with the type of concealor that isn't too creamy and the amount of you're using 🫶🏼
Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you use a makeup primer at all under your powder foundation or under the Alastin Mineral Sunscreen that you wear..
The Alastin works great as a primer and is usually all I wear. Jane Iredale has a great one that pairs with the powder foundation. The Smooth Affair Brightening is my favorite of the 3

I'm a promua and have hooded eyes too🙌 You can try using a pressed powder first instead of concealor as your base, unless you prefer full coverage✨️Be careful with the type of concealor that isn't too creamy and the amount of you're using 🫶🏼
@@merryespinosa4893 great thank you!
What about a powder puff? Why would you use a brush over a powder puff? Or vice versa?
7:38 I'm a set the entire face girl, sadly LOL.
Have you tried the reformulated Givenchy? Any dupes for that? I saw the reformulation is too shiny which I saw in person at Sephora. Thanks!
I haven't tried it. I tried to order but looks like they are sold out everywhere. I also like the Huda Beauty loose powder as an alternative
Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you use a makeup primer at all under your powder foundation or under the Alastin Mineral Sunscreen that you wear..
The Alastin works great as a primer and is usually all I wear. Jane Iredale has a great one that pairs with the powder foundation. The Smooth Affair Brightening is my favorite of the 3
How does the Jane Iredale powder foundation compare to Laura Geller’s which is marketed for mature women?
Hi! I need to try Laura Gellars. I haven't but I do hear this question a lot so it sounds like it is a good option too!?
6:27 BK Beauty brush dupes??
Thank you. I am asking for a BK Beauty set of brushes for Xmas. Do sets ever go on sale?
Aww, thank you so much!! and yes! Our anniversary sale actually starts tomorrow!
