    Great video that was very clear and concise. I am an on and off gardener, I get into it and then get busy and let it go. Fertilizing always felt overwhelming but your explanation was very helpful. I didn’t know annuals were heavy feeders and I should be feeding them weekly! Such good information!

    Great video Janey! This has been one of my top issues with gardening is fertilizer. I feel so much more confident going into this gardening season. Thank you for making it easy for newer gardeners to follow along.

    I used the Dr. earth last year on my annuals and it worked great. I had the pump version and it did make a mess in my storage cabinet. Not sure why it leaked out the pump area but I’ll empty the pump next time before storing. I even used that brand on my succulents and they loved it.
    Ps looking forward to video on grass maintenance. That seems to be our biggest issue every year.

    Great vid Janey! Fertilizing is so helpful for our plants to thrive. I also really like the Alaska fish emulsion. They have a bloom one also that I tried for the first time last year. I dont see the eb stone Fertilizers in my area. The espoma is more available to me so I tend to use those. I use the synthetic Fertilizing in my pots and in annuals like you said. Anything in the earth, I try to stick to organic. Thanks for the vid! 💚

      Thanks Steph! That’s a great technique! That is so funny, it’s really really hard to find Espoma around here! I just bought fish emulsion (I think it’s that Neptune brand) to use on my first year roses! Have a great day and enjoy your warmth! 💕😘

After turning the pile for a month, we had a HUGE pile that was perfect fertilizer. I'm going to be adding some raised beds this year and I'll be turning to this pile to stock the beds. Great video, Janey!! I have strong opinions on fertilizers, especially as new gardeners. Use whatever you need to produce a beautiful flower garden and/or vegetable garden. As we get more experience, we will adjust. The world needs more gardeners and gardeners. If we have "success," we want more, which is a benefit to everyone, imo.

    My biggest challenge in this area was the wordings. Everyone says to fertilize and then when I went shopping, all the bags would say plant food. The only fertilizer that I would find was for lawns. Once I learned that the proper action is feeding plants, then everything made sense and it was clear. Thank you for this begining gardening series and yes I've learned soo much from Jim Putnam. I spread it like he does. Just don't add anything to natives or you'll damage or kill them! Learned that one two yrs ago!

    You were very informative and easy to understand. I use both organic and man made fertilizer.
    If you have a pool in your yard you need to be very careful not to get any fertilizer in it. Even what water comes out of the pots. I was at the pool store getting my water tested and the gentleman in front of me had just used a liquid fertilizer in a hose applicator. He let some get in his pool and the only way to fix it was drain the pool. I learned my lesson through him. I am now extremely careful whenever I use it on the pots around my pool.

    • @DigPlantWaterRepeat
      @DigPlantWaterRepeat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What?!?! I never knew that! Ok thank you! I don’t think I’ve ever gotten fertilizer in the pool but luckily we got our pool drained for repairs last fall so it’s for sure clean now! I’ll remember that thanks Tammy! You give the best advice 😘!!!

  • @kimgoodwin5653
    @kimgoodwin5653 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    LOL George 🐕 - too cute. I usually use Espoma products but agree they are frustratingly hard to find in our area. E.B.Stone seems a bit pricier but maybe worth switching to if I don't want to wait for Amazon shipping. I'm interested in your assessment of the Dr. Earth plant food after you've used it for the season. I tried it last year and was unimpressed. I don't know if it's because of the 1-1-1 NPK or just my poor gardening skills lol. I will give it another go this season because I still have some leftover but may switch to synthetic for my annuals. I think the NPK in Miracle Gro is much higher.

    • @DigPlantWaterRepeat

    Please give Proven Winners Water Soluble Plant Food a try! I use it weekly on my annuals & my Supertunia Bubblegum bloomed for 2 seasons ( I mean, slowed a bit in the winter), but continued to bloom through the winter & the following year as if it was a newly planted annual. It is a bit more pricey than Miracle Grow, but oh so with it. You do have to order it from either Proven Winners, Proven Winners Direct ( who do run sales if you get on their mailing list or Amazon. You will be blown away by the difference.
