You know how the Romans saw Attila as pure evil, the Scourge of God, etc? Well I am just now realizing that the Total War: Attila trailers, (the White Horse, Red Horse, Black Horse, and Ashen Horse) each represent one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse (Conquest, War, Famine, Death). Whoever came up with these trailers is smarter than we give them credit for.
+steven kane It is also using some biblical scholar's interpretation of the book of revelations, that it does not foretell the end of the world, but is a historical recount of the fall of Rome, which was the end of the world at the time.

It was Geiserich, the king of the Vendals, was named "Scourge of God", not Attila
No it was definitely Attila who was named that. The term originated from a story about how Attila once approached the gates of Trier (I believe), a city he passed during his invasion of Gaul but did not attack, and had an exchange with the bishop of the city, who asked him who he was. In response, he answered that he was 'the Scourge of God'.
The term was applied to many people though. Genghis Khan was also known as the Scourge of God, so it is probable that Geiserich was also called that.
The city was Troyes, by the way, and the Bishop a man named Lupus.
This shoud have been intro for great migrators factions instead they give them same barbarian intro for all barbarian factions

I like how this Total War is shaping to be a bit more "human". You see the effect wars have on your empire's people and it becomes less of a matter of 1s and 0s.
Sorry for the 'slightly' late response. I don't believe it's Alaric. He wasn't the one to lead the Goths from the former roman province of Dacia into Roman lands, I think it's the Visigothic faction leader from the prologue you can play in-game we're looking at. I might be wrong about Alaric, but I am very sure that the person in the trailer is indeed that Gothic chieftain .
SlyBiffrons I believe it was Fritigern. The Visigoths began to migrate during his reign. He might have been the starting faction leader for the Visigoths in-game as well.

No, Alaric starts as the Visigothic Faction Leader in Attila, at least in the base campaign.
But by then, the Visigoths(As well as other tribes like the Suebi and Alans) are already migrating, and he start somewhere in Thessalonica, stuck between it and Constantinople, I believe.
I like that civilians are on the maps again and react to you attacking their settlements.

Famine and inflation, for anyone who doesn't understand the meaning.
A denarius was a day's wages back then so the message was that you'd only be able to afford a tiny amount of grain or a slightly larger amount of animal food with it, and you can outright forget about being able to afford nice things to eat.

Personally, I'm really excited for this game. I mean, if it turns out to be like Rome 2 at launch, I'll be the first one you can say "told you so" to. But I'm excited for the time period, and I honestly think this is the closest we'll get to Medieval 3 for awhile. I think it'll be a great game.

no, they wont improve because that's not how the industry works. Likely event is these are close to final build, as the usual MO is to have significantly improved graphics in early showcases compared to consumer release. They tweak performance, hard-locking features out that are more intensive and lowering internal resolution,
see: Dark Souls 2, or any Elder Scrolls game post-Morrowind for drastic examples. Build hype, hope they won't care about the downgrade enough to not buy the game. Marketing.
Are you kidding? What kind of graphical fidelity are you expecting from a massive RTS game that has real-time 3D battles with thousands of soldiers rendered on a field at once. It's marvelous that the game even looks this good.

I am expecting the graphics they showed me in the E3 video of Rome 2 total war
The soldiers are translated to 2dimensional sprites at a certain range and have been since Rome. Considering the flat geography and relatively low amounts of detail in the environments shown, and taking perhaps 300 active 3D models in full LOD a bit less than Shadow of Mordor would be expected for a 2015 PC-only release on a AAA budget.
Connor Macinnes If you crank the graphics up to extreme on Rome 2, especially with a few mods, it look amazing! There are no 2d soldiers. I was surprised by how great it looked!

fuck that bullshit. NO, total war is about going into the body of an ancient leader, and commanding your empire. Not some fairy tail, ridiculously over the top, fantasy world. You want that so badly? Make a bloody mod. I don't want CA spending money on crap like that.
Well you can get inside ancient leaders all you want. Me and the rest are going to enjoy a game with new mechanics, gameplay and story that come from fantasy. But I'm sure you're right because adding "fantasy" to anything automatically makes to suck.....

Nope... Shitty fantasy makes it suck... I love fantasy. I'm practically a Game of thrones zealot, LOTR/Hobbit is perhaps my favorite series of all time, etc... I love fantasy, just War Hammer is silly, and over-the top fantasy. In the same bracket as WOW. It would be a terrible idea for CA to make that game. Only a relatively small number of total war fans actually enjoy and would buy a war hammer total war. Would be bad for their reputation, and sales.

And when you get the game the peasents when zoomed in => will not not have sound when striking the earth with the shovel => will not have the groan sound of the peasent working the land => will not have migration "civilian" troops rolling in lines when an migration "army" is encountered in combat. AND thats just couple of examples, the whole trailer is 99% hype and 1% actual ingame engine.

This trailer made me realize that Attila was the main cause for the germanic tribes conversion to catholicism. After all must be hard to live in a land where the gods don't protect them, and then move to a land where they can thrive.

I love the Total War franchise, i have been playing it since Medieval total war. (missed shogun and Medieval 2 was IMO the best of them) but Rome 2 was a disaster, heck, i still "try" to play the game; walled city sieges are laggy as fuck. (O no! we cannot think of a path! we shall lag your performance) how come this stupid issue still not be addressed?
and the cities? Yeah rome could only handle 5 buildings, totally real.
apparently you haven't played the most up-dated version... All of those problems have been fixed
well my steam is instructed to keep my games up to date.

Well, I don't know what to say then, because all of those problems have been fixed. Also, the full size "rome" in rome2, is enormous compared to the full size "rome" in vanilla rome. Also, the glitches with walled cities are prevalent in every total war. Especially medieval 2 I might add.
Agreed, issues where there (specially if you changed the unit size, but it would not affect the game as a whole, just one unit would be affected by it.
Moreover an immersion killer, for me, is the lack of expansion in cities, i just hate this system I know it was on shogun 2 (never tried napoleon or empire total war, not my thing) but it is not coherent.
Beyond those complains I have i welcome your discussion Aaron Landau I will redownload my Rome to see if i can fix the issue.

I'm curious as to what you mean by lack of expansion in cities. In rome 2 cities get larger and more complex with advancements. What frustrated me about shogun 2 and empire total war was the virtual non-existent cities. IN empire there were small towns, that looked incomplete and sparse. But I really enjoyed the walled cities and fortresses of Medieval 2. I think rome 2 does a pretty good job at this, but at times there are parts of cities which are inaccessible that I wish you could explore (large temples, walled areas,etc...).
