As computational, sensor and optical technologies continue to improve, I have little doubt that we will see many mobile phones beginning to replace mirrorless cameras and even compact point-and-shoots in five years from now. Samsung's new S22 Ultra, with its 10x periscopic zoom lens and 108MP sensor, is likely going to be recognized as one of the early replacements for P & S cameras.
The way I see the photography market going is that it will bifurcate into two markets: full-frame cameras only for people who are professionals or super-serious about their photography, and mobile phone cameras for everyone else. There will be no APS-C or Micro Four Thirds cameras anymore, or only one or two manufacturers will make such cameras. I could easily see OM Systems exiting the market due to lack of capitalization to engage in the R & D needed to make smaller cameras that will sit under the OM-1 and that will be compelling to amateur photographers. Fuji and Panasonic are in the same boat.

Great video. Something that I would like to know is about audio recording performance. Everyone on youtube focus a lot on the camera quality, but even the biggest youtubers forget to mention how good the recording mic is. Audio is half of the experience! I wish people would give more assesment to that part. I wouldn't want to have to buy an external microphone

It took me a while to understand the gamma part of the video as I looked everywhere to find out info on it. I plan to use my phone to film projects as I'm trying to get back into filmmaking. Took me a while to get the resources to start out as everything is pricey.

I’m still shooting an iPhone 6s, so I guess any upgrade is better than what I’m using today. So I’m about to shoot some video with an iPhone, plus videos from my DJI Mini 2. So I’m thinking 13 pro. I like the smaller size and ease of use compared to the Max version. I’m excited about a 3-camera (lens) as opposed to a single camera. This will probably be my last upgrade, somI want to feel comfortable with my selection. Your recommendation of the iPhone 13 pro series gives me a feeling of going in the right direction. So thank you. I read your TH-cam presentations and consider them professionally prepared and presented. I recently purchased a DJI OM 4, and believe an upgraded camera system will be beneficial.

That add on screen for the Sony proves what I have said for awhile now that it is possible for company's to make a small 'front facing' screen for the back camera, now if only it were available for other phones and made by a 3rd party company(s) to lower the cost. It doesn't even need to be a touch screen as most phones can be controlled via bluetooth with a mouse it would be nice, and if it were a touch screen it would be just a bit nicer.

I used S8 and S9 for a lot of my videos. But the Samsung Note 20 Ultra was quite a step up. If you're shooting wildlife videos, the telephoto lens is really useful. The S21 Ultra has a 10x as well, but I don't like the tone mapping on it. I haven't used a GoPro but I haven't seen anything which would make choose that option, although for certain situations I can see the use - as a camera, recent flagship iPhones or Samsungs are better

LG should make a small camera with the capabilities of the top smartphones. There is no camera like that. I have a Huawei p40 pro and in love with it, but in these days I wouldnt want to be tied to a phone to enjoy my hobby. I have a DSLR canon 7D but it is not practical to carry it around. Someone should maka such a camera. Like a phone cut in half, just a little thicker for the zoom cameras, etc.. I would love to see that.

The Sony Xperia phones are quite interesting. However, none of the mobile phone service providers in Canada are selling them. If you want one, you can get one through Amazon Canada, but it will be an international 'grey market' phone with no warranty and no CDMA capability. CDMA is used by most wireless phone service providers in the US, thus rendering the phone useless if you plan to travel in the US.
The Xperia phones aren't even listed on the Sony Canada website, and there is no official Sony Xperia website. I'm scratching my head over why Sony won't market their phones in Canada, gievn their apparently huge capabilities. Maybe it's because the phones are quite expensive and there's not enough profit margin for retailers to bother.

One of the best video so far is made on these high end flagships by a professional filmmaking lover …
You must produce a detailed review on each flagship before they hit the shelves…
Most of the time these phone reviewer doesn’t review honestly..and people ending up buy the phone they regret after.. I know you do review but not before the phones hit the shelves..
Your top phone is 13 pro ..But it’s Lense Flares sucks .. I switched from s21 ultra ..it was a wrong decision
Can you please make a video on 13 pro’s Lense Flares how to avoid that’s kind of …..
Some times most beautiful shots are ruined by these flares
Give me some suggestions to avoid it 🙏

    • @SiHorrocks
      @SiHorrocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

thank you, I appreciate it. The problem with lens flares is the same as the previous iPhone (12). The only way to reduce it is to shield the lens from direct light. Adding a lens adapter, filters on so on can help to reduce it. A DoF adapter plus long cinema lens can remove it altogether, but that's an extreme strategy. At night when there are lots of lights around is the worst situation, but just try to angle the phone to reduce it as much as you can.
As far as reviewing phones before they hit the shelves, you have to be sent them by the maker. Only Xiaomi has ever sent me a device before release. And as it happens Apple never sends prerelease iPhones to anyone, even the big TH-camrs. Only famous directors ;)

@@SiHorrocks thanks for your detailed answer. Any Lense adopter you suggest ,tiny one I mean.

Believe it or not this is one of the biggest issue …while filming with 13 pro on auto settings …thousands of TH-camrs are suffering from
Make a detailed video on this issue one day
that can help thousands of people around the globe
You In-depth knowledge and your filmmaking background gives you an Edge over these paid reviewers ..

I still don't know why smartphone manufacturers bring back flip phones that drop the notch & front camera. Motorolla made one but it was stupidly expensive which defeats the purpose. If apple brought out a flip phone that had a better camera, dropped the notch had a small screen on the back for selfies every other manufacturer would make fun & then copy after 2 years.

    Greetings!
    Great and informative video.
I have a question and I would be grateful if you helped me.
I am an aspiring filmmaker that would like to buy a new camera. I am thinking of a smartphone or a dedicated camera.
What camera do you recommend for me to buy?
Should I buy a used one maybe?
My budget is less than a thousand dollars.
I want my films to me cinematic looking so keep that in mind.
If you would help me i would be very grateful!

I don't know if I missed it but I wanted to know about stability when filming. Currently when I'm filming on 1080p 60 my footage can be shakey if phone is in hand. It's less obvious in 1080p 30.
Do do any of the modern phones offer stability programs or do I need to get a handheld stand that does that?

Nice overview🙏🙏🙏. But why is everybody not talking about audio quality?? I play guitar & I wanted to capture a studio quality audio with my smart phone and it is not near that. I tried several techniques to capture better audio with my Samsung Note 10 but it is not satisfactory for me. I also tried by attaching professional microphone only to be disappointed in the end. Which mobile captures near studio quality audio if anyone knows the answer .....
