I think the main problem of people discussing arcane is that they're always trying to find a scapegoat for every single problem. Arcane isn't about who's the problem, it's a domino effect. Looking back every single character could've made a difference, Vander too, but it's just the way pieces fell into place.
No one is the one at "fault," or the "bad" one here. It's all just a tragedy and everyone became a victim in the end. I like arcane because it's just really human. The series really explores humane mistakes and consequences.

Everyone can sympathize with Jinx/Powder (at least everyone I have watch) but I haven’t see a person who understands Vi, she is also traumatized, she is also a child and she just saw her family die by her sister hands... so i am glad you can see that, a lot of people just hate her and blame her.

    • @arlance6703
      @arlance6703 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

That's because Vi's character is not as realistic as Powder's. Look at Victor, Jayce, Powder etc., what makes them great characters is their contradictoryness, they make mistakes, they want to do good, following their own concept of "goodness", but sometimes they choose to act differently because they're afraid, or they feel betrayed, or powerless etc. Not vi , she's perfect , she never does mistakes, she's tough but sensitive and even though she lived the same events of Powder it looks like she's completely fine. She should be even more traumatized than her sister but nope, after many years in jail there she is radiant as always..

    • @Brainth1780
      @Brainth1780 2 ปีที่แล้ว +140

@@arlance6703 just because she doesn't express her trauma in the same way doesn't mean she's not traumatized, she has a way of swallowing it all up because she has to, because if she's not fine then how is she gonna help Powder? As an older sibling it's something I've struggled with personally, and I identified with her the most. It's important to note that just because someone isn't breaking down it doesn't mean they're fine, it can be the complete opposite as they don't give themselves the space they need for their feelings to flow. And right at the worst possible times, those feelings break out... and that's when she hit Powder, when all of her life had been dedicated to protecting her. For that one second she became her own worst enemy, and she never forgave herself for it.
There's a lot more depth to her character if you look closely, and I think it's weird that you call her perfect when I've seen people argue that she made nothing but mistakes the whole season.

@@arlance6703 Vi is a great character. Everyone watching the show has their favourites. For me, Jayce is the least favourite character. It seems he's just a sciency guy in the skin of a jock, being manipulated by everyone easily. But Vi on the other hand is the big sister I can relate to. Vi gets everyone into trouble. She is the real jinx. And she is stubborn. Had Vi followed Vander's advice, she would not have had everyone killed. I like Vi, but feel she wasn't written that well. She did things that a sister in there situation would do. She would never put her sister in danger the ways she did several times. As much as I like the budding relationship with Cait, its unrealistic based on Vi's history. Parents killed by enforcers, treated less than human by enforcers her whole life. Enforcer throws her in jail where she is severely abused and constantly worried about her sister. She gets out as a means to get to her sister and then she risk her relationship with her sister for a nice Enforcer?

In the first episode we saw at the beginning that Vi and Powder had to endure a very traumatic event in their childhood: the death of their parents on a battlefield. Such events always cause consequences, especially when one is so young. In both of them, for example, we notice a rejection against the world, against the authorities. That they are against the enforcers who killed their parents and act as the oppressors in their growing up is understandable there.
In stressful situations Vi therefore gives in to orders, her anger and emotions, resorts to violence. Powder, on the other hand, suffers from anxious attachment disorder. Her sister is her entire focus; nothing works without her. She runs up to her and pounces on her after she leaves. She clings to her sister because being away from her causes her great anxiety and being reunited calms her.
While Vi has chosen Vander as her foster father, mentor and role model, Powder is different. She never shows the kind of affection or attachment to Vander that she does for her sister. She can exist just fine without him, but she needs her sister. Every time Vi leaves her, it's traumatic for her because it could be that Vi will never come back.
When Vi went off to rescue Vander and left her behind, it had two terrible consequences for her. The first was separation anxiety because Vi was no longer around her and intentionally left her behind, and the second was that Vi essentially told her she wasn't good enough to leave. That phrase, "You're not ready," hit her deeply because it confirmed all of her fears and doubts about herself, that she really wasn't good enough to go with the crew or be a part of their family, and that she was so unworthy. She broke down and began destroying her own creations.
As she chased after her, her creation finally working and wanting the recognition from her sister for her abilities that she desperately needed at that moment, she is confronted with the consequences of her successful creation. She killed her family that she wanted to be a part of. And worst of all, her sister got angry at her, hit her, called her "Jinx", the culprit for bad events, unworthy and "not good enough".
You can't blame Vi, she is a young teenager who just lost everything. Vi had to leave the situation briefly to let out her emotions in the void, so as not to expose her little sister to them. Powder, meanwhile, is experiencing a complete emotional breakdown. She has failed again and has not only lost her sister, but her family as well. She is a left alone helpless about 10 to 11 year old girl and doesn't know what to do as her emotional anchor walks away angry and crying.
This also explains why she threw herself at Silco after Vi left her. She was desperate and alone, looking for anything and anyone who would give her attention. She had lost her anchor, she had been abandoned, all her fears were coming true. And the question now is, how does Silco react to this? He is a person who has been rejected by society, who has been hurt and betrayed by everyone. And now someone vulnerable young is lying in his arms and reaching for him. He looks lost and thoughtful. It almost seems that he sees himself in her, someone who has been hurt and betrayed, left behind, worthless to everyone. Instead of what we all expected him to do to her, like a usual villain, he begins to comfort her. He tells her, "We'll show them. We'll show them all.", something she really needed to hear about her abilities, her skill, after such a defeat. We'll see how their relationship develops in the next episode.

One of the soft, nearly unnoticeable touches that makes this show so great was in Vi's bit about Mylo being right about Powder being a jinx - when Vi said his name, her eyes darted towards Claggor's goggles before focusing back on Powder.
Similarly, when Powder glomps onto Silco when he approaches, she emotionally disarmed him by doing so while also *literally* disarming him, as the knife he was holding went skittering away behind him.

Easy to do with the two face thing, but still love how this series does so much work with parallel character arcs

    this show is so amazing
there are so many callbacks and parallels everywhere and they are just masterfully crafted and woven into the story.
Like Heimerdinger warning them of the awful things that can happen if the power of the arcane comes into the wrong hands. And then showing how on the one side Victor and Jayce - two very intelligent and trained scientists manage to master it while on the other side Powder blows up an entire building killing lots of people.
Or Vander teaching Vi about responsibility and how tough decisions can be, as well as the potential toll when going into a dangerous fight. "Who are you willing to loose? Milo? Clagger? ... Powder?"
And then this actually happens because of circumstances that are way beyond her (and possibly anyone's) skills.
Also the double protect the family and take care of powder which she both fails at (though we can't blame her). And all that after trying to give herself up to save her family when learning what it takes to be a good leader.
things like the parallels in Silco's and Powder's story and the way Silco is floating through the water the same way powder falls through the air with the blue of the crystals behind her is just so well done.
there are tons of examples in this episode alone but throughout the entire show. I'm in total awe of the creators for making something this good and believing in their viewers instead of spelling everything out with dialogue instead of these beautiful images

Vi lashing out at Powder is a pretty normal reaction considering the circumstances.
Not saying it was ok or right, just understandable.
The thing is she realizes its not Powders fault.
When she looks down the "blood is on her hands", literally.
Exactly what Vander told her in episodes 1 and 2.
Once she realized that she walked of cuz she needed space to process and calm down, not unreasonable if you ask me.
The fact that Silco and Marcus showed up is really what F:ed everything up.

I find it sad. . .even somewhat _tragic,_ that from the very first moment we see *Viktor* (or at least when he and *Jayce* first spoke to one another) it appears everyone's¹ initial impression of him is that he is either straight up _a bad guy,_ or they instantly suspect him and his motives. 🥺
It actually appears to reflect a bit of how his character may have been treated in Piltover growing up. 😔
*Edit:* But to me, it now appears that *Viktor* seems to be the _heart_ of the duo. Not that *Jayce* doesn't have a heart. But it seems, of the two of them, *Viktor* is the one that continue to remind *Jayce* that they got into this to help _everyone._

Vi didn't abandon her. Her main instinct in anger or distress is to fight, and when you are acting in anger you're actions are more impulsive, which is why she acted the way she did towards her. She caught herself in the middle of it, realized what she was doing and put distance between her and her sister so she could calm down.
Was that the best moment to do that? Fuck no, but again likely acting more impulsively than thinking things through. She wasn't abandoning her, just trying to calm down so she wouldn't do what she already did to her. Then Marcus coming in behind her sealed the idea that she walked away from her sister.
