The rose box looks so much better after you have dressed it. Going to try the slow cooker for my cake - why not ! You are by far the most glamorous and best dressed cook I've seen. x
Helen, you make everything look so easy! It’s 1am here and I can’t sleep, so what a treat to see you making your Christmas cake ! Your pearls look beautiful .
Morning Helen 🤗 thankyou for sharing you're Christmas cake recipe👍 do you know what I'm going to give this ago aswell I have a slow cooker I have never made my own Christmas cake but how you explained and showed how to do it I'm going to take the leap and try. you're. right it's the confidence and trust thing and obviously feels like we are in you're kitchen with a good friend having a natter and preparing for Christmas. Thankyou for sharing Helen really appreciate it 💕🤗👍🎅🤶🎄☃️
Thanks Tina. It's really easy. I did one hour on high then about five hours on low, but towards the end I had to line the lid with a double folded tea towel as the condensation was dropping back into the cake. Just put a skewer or sharp knife in to make sure it's cooked through xx
Helen I love fruitcake - thought I’d give you a true example. When my son got married my daughter in law gave me the second tier of the cake, anyhow months later she asked me if I had given Mrs whoever a piece of the cake. I had to own up and admit I thought she gave it to ME and that I had slice of cake with a cup of tea every day until it was all gone. True story and I enjoyed every slice yum yum.
Loved your crackers and your Christmas Cake recipe, great fun to know you can bake a cake in the slow cooker, who knew? I agree that confidence is a great component in whatever we do in life. Great hint on the eyebrow colouring, looks easy. I admire your relaxed approach to everything you do, take me as I am, so cool! I look forward to everyone of your sharings with us, because I enjoy you, as the beautiful woman you are. You make me happy, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for every joy you bring❤
You make me laugh Helen 😅your just normal in the kitchen I ve just made my cake and my kitchen looked like I d been robbed every door and cupboard was open loads of spoons used and every part of my kitchen used 🤣🤣🤣🤣 love Christmas 🎄
So fun to see you do this. I have found that everything we women do is always "easy".We do not appreciate what we do as a skill, its such an understatement for what we are able to do. When you point out that its something that not everybody are able to do, they shrug their shoulders and still dont recognize their acheivments. What a great idea to cook it in a slow cooker. I'm not a fan of Christmas cake myself but my mum used to love it and always made one so I have never cooked one in my 60 years. Shame on me. Loved the new camera angle, felt more part of this bake off. 😄
Thank you Helen, really looking forward to seeing how slow cooker method works and thank you for changing the camera angle, made all the difference… I was one mentioned it from the stuffing video, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be critical 😔. You do a wonderful job and all your videos are very enjoyable xx
Not at all, you weren't the only one to say. It's all a learning curve for me. Thanks. The slow cooker worked fine. I show it in the B and M haul vid, coming soon. And I will film the icing xx
I’m a dreadful cook and you are right it is confidence and experience. I get distracted by ongoings which doesn’t helpIt would be nice to have a weekly video of simple dishes. Your calming way of cooking is very encouraging 🎉
I think you are spot on regarding confidence in baking - something I don’t have. Using a slow cooker for a Christmas cake is a genius idea. You are an inspiration, thank you.
You are the most glamorous cook on youtube, the shirt and necklace look great on you. The flower box looks so much better now too. You done really well cooking for us, can't wait for the end result
Hello Helen from Australia 🇦🇺 I’m dying to know how your Christmas cake turned out. Love your videos, you are a breath of fresh air in this ‘try hard - plastic world’. Take care.
I can’t wait to see the cake! The ingredients look delicious with all the fruit in it. I’ve never seen roses like that at a funeral! They are luxury items and very modern. They are lovely with the bow on them. I can bake but I’ve got no one to bake for now. Looks like that took a lot of preparation. You’re a very clever lady, as I’ve said many times😊 Keep a piece of the cake for me. Lol. Great video 🎂
Helen, I love your cooking and baking videos. I’m having my family at my house for Thanksgiving for the first time in many years so I’ve made a few dishes ahead and froze them after seeing what you do for Christmas dinner. I expect to have more time for fun and not slaving away in the kitchen. Thanks for all the great ideas!
Gosh , well done you !!. I make a cake every year , but not many of my family like it , I love it , so I was going to buy a small M & S one , but I will wait to see how yours turns out . Before I decide . Thankyou . J
Hi Helen. Can’t wait to see the final result. No one likes Christmas cake in my family so I don’t bother with one. I can just imagine the amazing smells in your home, perfect. Thank you 😊
Helen: You are making the cake in that beautiful silk shirt? I would have it all over me. I am a messy cook! My husband cleans up the kitchen....There would be flour and eggs on my counter and floor. I adore your videos!
I l❤ve Christmas cake. That was fun watching you put it together. I was looking forward to see the finished cake 😊 .. I too, can’t stop eating it when I start 😂
Morning Helen, love the bowls they're gorgeous. I did my Christmas cake last week in slow cooker for first time and it turned out fabulous. The rose bouquet is beautiful and will be a lovely centrepiece, you are so creative. Your necklace is beautiful on you. Xx
@@Helenmaryjo I enjoyed learning about what you do with your eyebrows but I really want to know how your Christmas cake in the Slow Cooker turned out. Waiting patiently here in Australia! Jan
I watched this earlier this morning with my breakfast and then went straight to the kitchen and made a lemon drizzle cake as you put me in the mood to bake haha. I made my Xmas cake last week and really pleased with how it looks. Love your videos and cannot wait to see your Xmas decor as I’m sure it’ll be Fab-u-Lous!! No pressure lol 💕x
Great video Helen, yes, I think most people can follow a recipe if you get the quantities right. I often cook/bake new dishes just following instructions, but it's a great help to watch a video first.
The only thing to be aware of is the condensation inside the lid, I put a double folded tea towel over the top with the lid on top of that for the last hour or so. xx
I really enjoyed watching you prepare this. I like the way you have confidence and say, oh well it’ll do. I find that admirable. My dear old Mum used to bake half a dozen Christmas cakes and give them out to people as gifts, they were really yummy, unfortunately after she passed away I couldn’t find her recipe anywhere. I find my baking is let down by knowing when to take things out of the oven. 😂 Take care 🌹
Hi, loved that, you are so down to earth, & so funny at times ,I enjoy watching your videos, I did my Christmas cake in the oven, never thought of doing it in the Slow Cooker! Dying to see how yours turns out! Thank you very much xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 💐💐💐
I haven't made a Christmas cake for a few years, I tend to eat too much of it, but think I will make one this year and try cooking it in the slow cooker. Thank you Helen, necklace looks gorgeous too. xx
I was only thinking the other day how expensive it will be baking our Christmas cake in the oven this year. Really great idea during these tough times to use the slow cooker think I’ll have a go. Thank you Helen xx
"...trust the process" ~ a great thought and reminder. Love your videos! Being in the U.S., it's such fun to listen to your thoughts. I'm going to try this recipe. It looks fabulous. ☺
Well that should encourage first time Christmas cake makers to have a go. My slow cooker is too small but what a great energy saver that is. I don’t make one anymore as, apart from my husband and I all the family are ‘Marmite haters’. I used to love to eat orange peel too - another war baby here. It must be quite exciting waiting to see what YT picks for your thumbnail. I must go back and see what it chose! Thanks Helen. ETA Oh it chose a good one. 😀
Oh I never thought to use slow cooker, what a great idea. I cheated this year and bought pre-mixed fruit from M&S which was already brandy soaked. (Didn't stop me adding more though). I use a Mary Berry recipe from a recipe book my Mam gave me many many years ago
Hi Helen, after watching this video, you've inspired to make a Christmas Cake again !!(haven't made one for a good few years now). None of my cake tins will fit my slow cooker, so have had to use oven, but cakes just gone in, and smells amazing wish me luck 🤞 x
Hi Helen - what a quick & easy way to make a christmas cake - I have never baked my own . I have watched my mum & it looked like hard work soaking the fruit then once the cake was baked see kept in her cool dark pantry & every day she would prick the cake & pour dark rum in. I worked full-time (not that is any excuse) & relied on mum/mother-in-law or Mr M & S - I am going to give this cake a try - I can't see that much can go wrong (wish me luck) - By the way I am really looking forward to your Wallis video - lovely shop & good quality clothing
That reminds me of making a Christmas cake at high school..1987, like you say we had to soak the fruit then the brown paper, trying not to let the top burn.. yes, poking the nitting needle n rum, keep unwrapping...I only ever made it that one time, it was bloody hard work! This recipe is way easier! 😋 Good Luck.
Hello Helen, your makeup looks lovely and your necklace and blouse are beautiful...Helen their are some people,,,who are never pleased or happy no matter what ...ignore them or block them.I think your fabulous.
Hi Helen, best dressed cook, you look beautiful & no batter on your beautiful blouse! I haven't made a Christmas cake in years, you really are inspiring me to do more! I have my mom's recipe and pans she used to make hers in, so again, you've given me the encouragement to make it, although my recipe is a bit more work, so I might try yours! Great video. Thank you so much for sharing, take really good care, stay well! Kathy x 💖
What a great idea Helen, cooking your Christmas cake in the slow cooker, I would never have thought of that, and will certainly be giving it a try. I would love a video about your air fryer if possible please, as I've been debating whether to get one or not. I would like to hear your thoughts on them and what you cook in them.
Helen I'm sure it will taste lovely. It so nice to make your own. Just enquiring Helen about these air fryers. I'm not too sure whether to buy one as thinking another gadget taking space on my worktop. Wondering what you think.
I use mine a lot now, because of the price of electricity. Plus when there's only two of us, it seems wasteful to put the whole oven on for just us. I got my Mum one and she hasn't used the oven since...... Its like anything, trial and error. Although to be fair I haven't had an errors. There's loads of info online. xx
ooo fab ! I am going to make my first ever Christmas cake this year so I am thrilled that you have made this video, especially using the slow cooker 😁Thank you Helen ! x
Looking very glam in kitchen here Helen. You make everything look so easy. I made scones yesterday, Im a bit messy when baking, you'd have thought a bomb had dropped in kitchen lol. Looking forward to seeing cake finished xx
Hi Helen. Can't wait to see your Xmas cake. Shame about the washing up!! Hope we can see you decorate it later. You look very glamorous too. I would have had the mixture up my sleeves☺x
Hi Helen brave to do a live cooking demo I do not like peel so I soak my fruit in Orange juice the night before also I omit currants only use sultanas sometimes I add cranberries. Never used vodka may try that.
Hello Helen great idea using slow cooker l usually do hairy bikers Christmas cake but will give this one a try for a change l will substitute the alcohol with juice though as l don’t like booze in cake will wait to se3 your results before trying it out 😮
Looks okay so far. The only thing I had to do was put a folded tea towel under the lid for the last hour or so as condensation was dropping back onto the cake. xx
Looking forward to seeing the results. I have not done much baking in my air fryer YET!! 😀 My goodness some folk are so blooming "picky" and moan about the least little thing. Just ignore them, they are not worth bothering about. Keep up the good work. Patricia 🏴🏴🏴💕
This story came to mind. My daughter is highly intelligent. Seriously high IQ.Common sense just not so high. She has a very high profile job.Years ago her colleague was baking a cake.My daughter asked her to print out the recipe. That weekend my daughter was in her local supermarket very stressed out because she couldn't find " ingreds". She asked a member of staff to help her find " ingreds " "???????😁😁😁😁
Hey Helen, I’ve just bought an airfryer, would love a video on how to use it other than for the obvious…I’m sure you’ve got some great recipes and tips!
Mary Berry better watch out ! Loving these cookery vlogs you keep it so real which I like! I’m going to attempt and I say attempt this at the weekend but in a fan oven 🤞 Loving your vlogs and btw we could see everything perfectly 😁 x
Hello Helen, Watched you vlogs but never commented. You are looking simply fabulous in that beautiful blouse and necklace. The cake recipe looks like something I can try. Much love to you
I always used to make a Delia Smith recipe Christmas cake but not made one for years. I do bake most weeks especially banana cake with over ripe (ready for the bin) bananas because I hate wasting food!) Interested to see the outcome of yours done in the slow cooker.
Helen you look fabulous love your blouse your skin look amazing and necklace very so eye catching the cake is going to be delicious stay safe stay beautiful ❤️
Loved this video. I have never cooked a cake in the slow cooker but I have made one in the air fryer last week. You have encouraged me to shake up my ideas. Will the cake look and taste more like a "clootie dumpling"? We Scottish oldies love those.
Hi Anne, it looks just right. I'll be icing it today and I'll film that and update everyone. TBH I didn''t expect it to be as popular a video as it is. Everyone wants to see the finished product. xx
Never thought of doing the cake in a slow cooker- things you learn👍🏻I’ve done a Nigel Slater cake the past two years (lovely) but feeding the cake turned out being expensive: some brandy for the cake and the rest to us😂
Wonderful idea to use the slow cooker. Yes, fruitcake is definitely a marmite thing - I love it, don't know anyone else that does, so I usually buy a very small one from the local British store (along with a small Christmas pud). The American fruit cake is very different from this- more candied fruit and nuts, and much paler. I also love mincemeat - have made my own in the past, but now rely on store-bought (again, from the British store). Do you do marzipan and icing on the cake? Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Thank you. I have a Ninja air fryer and I use either a loaf tin or a 7in round tin. They both fit. Then I cook on "bake'. I'm no expert, but I just give it a try. There are loads of tips online. xx
Love the vlog Helen, it certainly looks good the recipe, I always made my own Christmas cake but the last few years I have bought a small one as my tummy doesn’t seem to like all the fruit that goes in the cake.xx
I've made a very small cake the last few years because otherwise I eat it all . I was 17 stone a few tears ago . Now 11and a half, nearlythere , i want to bd 11 stone . . Waiting to see you cook it in the slow cooker . K
When you made your Christmas cake in the slow cooker did you put water in the bottom of the pot? Also did you stand the cake tin in anything and was the recipe altered for cooking in the slow cooker? Many thanks.
Hi, no I didn't put water in. I had to put a little pyrex dish in the bottom to steady the cake. And no I just followed the recipe and guessed the timing. One hour on high and five hours on low until the knife came out clean xx
The rose box looks so much better after you have dressed it. Going to try the slow cooker for my cake - why not ! You are by far the most glamorous and best dressed cook I've seen. x
Ah, thank you xx

I have my mom's recipe and pans she used to make hers in, so again, you've given me the encouragement to make it, although my recipe is a bit more work, so I might try yours! Great video. Thank you so much for sharing, take really good care, stay well! Kathy x 💖
Thanks so much xx
first time ever making a cake turned out wonderfull
Great 👍 xx
Hi 👋 Helen can’t wait to see how it turns out it looked great going in 😊
It looks fine, I show it briefly in my B and M shopping video coming soon. I will also film the icing of it. xx
What a great idea Helen, cooking your Christmas cake in the slow cooker, I would never have thought of that, and will certainly be giving it a try. I would love a video about your air fryer if possible please, as I've been debating whether to get one or not. I would like to hear your thoughts on them and what you cook in them.
I will try and do that xx
Oooh jo I bet your home smells divine 😊 I’m so tempted to do this and I can’t wait for the result x
You look so lovely not at all messy xx
It looks good. Thank you. It's easy xx
There's loads of info online. xx
ooo fab ! I am going to make my first ever Christmas cake this year so I am thrilled that you have made this video, especially using the slow cooker 😁Thank you Helen ! x
Thank you. xx
Looking very glam in kitchen here Helen. You make everything look so easy. I made scones yesterday, Im a bit messy when baking, you'd have thought a bomb had dropped in kitchen lol. Looking forward to seeing cake finished xx
Thank you. It looks okay - I will film the icing of it. xx
Hi Helen. Can't wait to see your Xmas cake. Shame about the washing up!! Hope we can see you decorate it later. You look very glamorous too. I would have had the mixture up my sleeves☺x
Haha, it's so easy. It looks good so far. I'll film the icing of it. xx
Thanks for the cooking video really enjoyed watching xxxx
My pleasure xx
Hi Helen brave to do a live cooking demo I do not like peel so I soak my fruit in Orange juice the night before also I omit currants only use sultanas sometimes I add cranberries. Never used vodka may try that.
I'm sure it will be lovely xx
Hello Helen great idea using slow cooker l usually do hairy bikers Christmas cake but will give this one a try for a change l will substitute the alcohol with juice though as l don’t like booze in cake will wait to se3 your results before trying it out 😮
Looks okay so far. The only thing I had to do was put a folded tea towel under the lid for the last hour or so as condensation was dropping back onto the cake. xx
Looking forward to seeing the results. I have not done much baking in my air fryer YET!! 😀
My goodness some folk are so blooming "picky" and moan about the least little thing. Just ignore them, they are not worth bothering about.
Keep up the good work.
Patricia 🏴🏴🏴💕
Thank you xx
After making 24 Christmas cakes and a thousand cookies I was over it. Then we had COVID for two years so a break from baking was fabulous.
I bet xx
This story came to mind. My daughter is highly intelligent. Seriously high IQ.Common sense just not so high. She has a very high profile job.Years ago her colleague was baking a cake.My daughter asked her to print out the recipe. That weekend my daughter was in her local supermarket very stressed out because she couldn't find " ingreds". She asked a member of staff to help her find " ingreds " "???????😁😁😁😁
Haha, goodness me. That sounds like something my husband would do! xx
That's hilarious 🤣
Hey Helen, I’ve just bought an airfryer, would love a video on how to use it other than for the obvious…I’m sure you’ve got some great recipes and tips!
Hi Sarah, yes, I'm working on that one! They are great xx
Please let us know if the cake came out well from the slow cooker. I’m intrigued 😊
Yes, all good so far. xx
Enjoyed that . My slow cooker a bit small .
Yes, that won't work.... but you can make it in the oven. xx
I was hoping to see how your cake turned out. have you made another video showing it after it came out of the slow cooker?
Hi Barbara. In this video: th-cam.com/video/L-x9ugTp0p4/w-d-xo.html. xx
I can't wait to see the result! Love Christmas 🎂 mince 🥧 ... don't worry about negative comments the positive well outweigh them.
Thanks so much 😊 xx
Mary Berry better watch out ! Loving these cookery vlogs you keep it so real which I like! I’m going to attempt and I say attempt this at the weekend but in a fan oven 🤞 Loving your vlogs and btw we could see everything perfectly 😁 x
Thank you Nicole. Go for it. It's easy I promise xx
Looks good hope it turns out ok great. Idea doing it in the slow cooker
Thanks. Looks good so far. I had to line the lid with a tea towel at the end to stop the condensation dropping onto the cake. xx
Hello Helen,
Watched you vlogs but never commented.
You are looking simply fabulous in that beautiful blouse and necklace.
The cake recipe looks like something I can try.
Much love to you
Thank you Joan. Believe it or not, I have never commented on a video either. Apart from these of course! haha xx
No, I've just realised that's not true as I commented on one but it was a reply to one of my subs on another video (if that makes sense) xx
I make a Christmas fruit cake with my homemade mincemeat and its very good and moist and freezes well
Sounds great! xx
Hi Helen, fingers crossed for the cake looks like a good recipe, will look forward to more I can watch later in the week when I've had my hip op 🤞 xxx
Good luck Alison, I hope it goes well. I'm sure it will. Just do what they tell you. xx
I always used to make a Delia Smith recipe Christmas cake but not made one for years. I do bake most weeks especially banana cake with over ripe (ready for the bin) bananas because I hate wasting food!)
Interested to see the outcome of yours done in the slow cooker.
It turned out well. Photo on instagram and in the thumbnail now. xx
Love Christmas cake minus the mixed peel lol. Give this a go
Great stuff xx
Helen you look fabulous love your blouse your skin look amazing and necklace very so eye catching the cake is going to be delicious stay safe stay beautiful ❤️
Thank you very much xx
Loved this video. I have never cooked a cake in the slow cooker but I have made one in the air fryer last week. You have encouraged me to shake up my ideas. Will the cake look and taste more like a "clootie dumpling"? We Scottish oldies love those.
Hi Anne, it looks just right. I'll be icing it today and I'll film that and update everyone. TBH I didn''t expect it to be as popular a video as it is. Everyone wants to see the finished product. xx
Hi Helen, new subscriber. Looking forward to seeing how your cake turned out 🥰
Thank you. I'll ice it later today hopefully xx
That's a great idea from one of the hels bells, cooking easy meals as I love cooking programs, I really look forward to your videos helen❤
Thank you Rena xx
I LOVE YOUR COOKING VIDEOS❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing x
You’re welcome 😊 xx
Never thought of doing the cake in a slow cooker- things you learn👍🏻I’ve done a Nigel Slater cake the past two years (lovely) but feeding the cake turned out being expensive: some brandy for the cake and the rest to us😂
It worked just fine xx
I always do Mary Berry’s Fast Christmas Cake made with a jar of mincemeat, eezy peezy lemon squeezy.
Yes I've done that one in the past xx
Wonderful idea to use the slow cooker. Yes, fruitcake is definitely a marmite thing - I love it, don't know anyone else that does, so I usually buy a very small one from the local British store (along with a small Christmas pud). The American fruit cake is very different from this- more candied fruit and nuts, and much paler. I also love mincemeat - have made my own in the past, but now rely on store-bought (again, from the British store). Do you do marzipan and icing on the cake? Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Thanks Fiona, it looks good so far and I will show the marzipan and icing too xx
I do enjoy your videos! Down to earth and much appreciated! May I ask what air fryer you have how you make cakes in it please?
Oh that's a shame. Good for the waistline though ..... xx
I've made a very small cake the last few years because otherwise I eat it all . I was 17 stone a few tears ago . Now 11and a half, nearlythere , i want to bd 11 stone .
. Waiting to see you cook it in the slow cooker . K
Oh wow! Well done!! xx
@@Helenmaryjo I lost 4 stone when I had kidney stones. Great fun ! K
You look so elegant as you cook.
Oh, thank you xx
My husband made ours in the air fryer this year. That'll be interesting, looks ok though.
yes, I've been baking my cakes in the air fryer too xx
Lovely Video xx
Thank you!! xx
Really silly question, perhaps I need to try another recipe, but I’d like to make a less boozy version of this one. Any suggestions for a substitute?
I think you could use orange juice, I've seen that used as a substitute before. xx
Thank you! I’d thought about that, just needed a bit of assurance I think! xx
You can also use just milk Janet
