One of the most touching scenes that gets glossed over easily for me is the scene between Heiter and Frieren (and Sein) when discussing being praised. As an adult you're hardly ever praised for doing difficult adult things, which is fine and what generally comes with being an adult. What made it so touching for me, speaking as an adult myself, was how real it felt when they said how from when we were young, we still have the mind now as we've had from back then, only now we just act like adults (both for our own benefit and for children's sake). And also, in a what may seem immature to some, but sweet to me, was how these two human adults (Heiter and Sein), were for a moment allowed to be praised like kids for holding up and being strong dependable adults by someone much older than them. Acts of sincere consideration really get me in shows and anime, and it's the emotional delicacy in which this anime handles such minor topics that just adds to how much I love this anime.
I also love the take that well, the sucky thing about growing up is realizing all adults are just kids who got old.
I loved that scene too and you put it perfectly why!
this episode made me feel the entire spectrums of emotions in a span of 24 minutes. idk why but Frieren headpatting Heiter like she doesn't know wtf she's doing made me ugly cry. and I don't even need to say anything about the "proposal" scene. just beautiful
Fern and Frieren both have mirrored lotus, but Frieren's seemed it hasn't blossomed. The flower that signifies "eternal love" is still in bud, i wonder if it means that that the love can never be fulfilled because they can never get together, what a good detail
Spoiler :
Fieren touches a stone which made her go back to the past, she saw himmel again (himmel knew it was fieren from the future ) but he didn’t speak anything of it, they have a journey and they meet one of the great sages of the demon king , he’s the demon that uses illusions. He puts the entire group in a illusion, the dream or illusion will be the thing the person gave up on came to terms it will never happen, fieren and himmel illusion was a wedding, both fieren and himmel knew the wedding was a illusion but fieren wanted to continue the wedding with himmel and kiss him, but himmel stops fieren because they need to get out of the illusion. Himmel battles the demon sage , and himmel told fieren to run back to the stone to travel back to the future before. So yeh we know for sure fieren loves himmel since the illusion is what the person gave up on or came to terms that it will never happen, and they were in the exact same illusion meaning the love was requited in a way
If you've read the manga up to the latest chapters, for me the flower thats still in bud means a love that will never die and growing love forever.

Spoiler:
Based off context from Frieren I think it’s likely she probably just had a strong emotions for him as close friend and wanted to explore her relationship with him further(the point she made at the funeral) that’s why she ended up in the same illusion. If it isn’t that Frieren is slowly subconsciously realizing she loved Himmel.
@@skrellb9659
Spoiler :
The demon clearly said the illusion is what the person wanted but came to terms that it will never happen , and coincidentally they ended up in the same illusion, btw fieren and himmel is completely aware of this illusion but fieren wanted to continue the wedding, but himmel didn’t want it to be this way. She’s was in a illusion another time, where it displays people closest or most dear to her as to make the person hesitate and self doubt , and it’s himmel. So the demon displayed her subconscious desire or dream , meaning she does love him, remember the ring she said she loses things all the time but she doesn’t want to lose that ring
@@skrellb9659
Eizen and the priest displays her emotions as close friends , but himmel she subconsciously loves him
Frieren didn't know, but Himmel knew what the mirrored-lotus meant, and it's so romantic. He knew his love wouldn't be reciprocated, that he'd be dead before Frieren knew about human feelings and understood that Himmel loves her, but despite this, he never stopped loving her. Even then, until now. It's so beautiful and sad at the same time. The church rings the bell as if to signify their marriage, which will not take place in this lifetime, but will definitely in another one, in heaven.
I love this anime, the feeling of nostalgia and melancholy that emanates from this anime is so beautiful but sad at the same time
It's exactly as you're saying! 🥺
I'm calling it, Frieren will reach Aureole and will choose to stay there with Himmel *ugly crying*
You're missing the significance of the clock between Himmel and Frieren - the symbol of what holds them apart, their different experiences of and perspectives on time. This makes is a tragic love story. We can see through all of these signs that Himmel genuinely loved Frieren but he never forced that love on her and she never understood the significance of his acts or that she loved him too until he died. This situation makes Eisen and Heiter's efforts to find out how Frieren can visit "Heaven" to see and say a real goodbye to Himmel that much more poignant. They knew how Himmel felt, they saw how Frieren finally realized her own feelings, and they wanted to help bring their friends together, at least to say "goodbye."
This is why I love Frieren, for details like this that have so much meaning! Really needs a second watch to pick up on all these things
I like how, the more you progress with the series, the more devastating episode 1 becomes.
As a manga reader, I can only say, you have no idea.
@@thegemguy1334 Yeah, I thought that first chapter was sad when I initially read it, but revisiting it again in anime form, knowing what I know now, was one Hell of a gut punch.
SO TRUE! I rewatched ep1 a few days ago and IT HURT SO MUCH MORE 😭
@@thegemguy1334 Damn it, I want to read the manga now
Oh yeah... don't rewatch it, it's totally crushing
Wow this is my favorite episode of Frieren. The romance focuses is so sweet
Mine toooooo! 🫶
I've read the manga, but still cried like a baby watching the proposal scene especially hearing those bells at the background. Best proposal since Loid and Yor. Jjk, frieren and sxf made me tear up for like 3 consecutive weeks now give me a break 😂😂😂
I feel you!!! Emotions running wild with these series currently 😂
I'm officially a Stern shipper now. Stark and Fern are so adorable together. Stark shares my pain: shopping with girls is absolutely insane😂😂. Great reaction 🙂
Yessss welcome to the ship!! Hahaha! Thank you ☺️
Now everyone can finally agree with me that Frieren is up there with Vinland saga when it comes to God level dialog between characters and also character development notice how Sein father figure to all of them including Frieren.
We will get to see more of Fern and stark in the upcoming episodes 🤗
This episode was beautiful
True, both have masterful dialogue! Can't wait for more Stern!!
both stark and fern are 18 (currently), stark is a few months older
This show make me feel so bad for both Himmel and Frieren...
I guess this is how Heither and Eisen felt and why they went to such great lengths to locate Flamme's scientific works.
Cannot wait for the conversation when Frieren reaches Heaven
*Frieren:* Wait, you were in love with me?
*Himmel:* Yes I was
*Literally everyone else in the party: YES HE WAS*
*Frieren:* Huh. Why didn’t you tell me?
*Himmel:* I PROPOSED TO YOU
Himmel would never yell.
Unless a kid flips Frieren's skirt ;)@@vazak11
Quick reminder that Himmel was never shown with a family before his death so he probably lived the rest of his life in celibacy.
Clearly he wasn’t taking the ring’s meaning lightly
He really meant that his love was eternal and that he wanted to marry our girl 😭
To be fair, even if Himmel told Frieren of his feelings earlier, she wouldn't feel the same, at least, not during that time during their travels.
Glad to see that you are finally joining to the "Himmel loved Frieren" train. Choo-choo!
I dont think is a train, its pretty cystal canon.
Spoiler :
Fieren touches a stone which made her go back to the past, she saw himmel again (himmel knew it was fieren from the future ) but he didn’t speak anything of it, they have a journey and they meet one of the great sages of the demon king , he’s the demon that uses illusions. It’s basically meaning fieren loves himmel the entire time but she didn’t realize it until it was too late
That's true or at least she wouldn't understand her feelings of love towards him if they were there. Oh I am all aboard and full steam ahead HAHA!
This is one of my most favorite parts in the manga that is just the characters kinda just chilling. Especially with the Fern x Stark content
Saw this on another channel
Notice that Fern's bracelet the Lotus is in full bloom, showing that love has or will blossom fully into it's full form. Frieren's ring, however, is still a simple bud and hasn't bloomed yet, showing that Himmel's love will never fully come to fruition, even if it still exists and is still eternal.
Wait this added even more meaning to the ring and bracelet 😭
The ring chapter was rated by a poll as the favorite chapter in the series.
Yasss! Not surprised, the episode was definitely my favourite so far!!
the moment i saw that scene with frieren and himmel, i was like “ i gotta see mai’s reaction”
Awww haha I hope it didn’t disappoint!
@@OtakuMai it was perfect! 😄😌 i had to watch it twice 😄

Yesss the wedding bells! And Fern is great!
The thing is, Frieren was confused by Himmel's action... but she didn't really understand what it meant. When she says to Fern, "Maybe" it's because now, years later and with Himmel already dead, she's finally capable of understanding it. So in a sense, there's a glint of "regret" on the ring. Not in a bad sense, just in a melancholic one.
Another 10/10 episode.
Every single one is a 10/10!
100% every episode is fantastic but this one has been my favourite so far for sure!

HAHAHAH!! 😂
Not sure whether you got the part about Stark spending three hours on the bracelet. Fern, like many difficult girlfriends, just say "pick whatever you like" but in reality whatever he picked wasn't good enough for Fern, he would pick one and Fern would just stare him down. For three hours it was trials and errors, until Fern eventually approved - until he picked the one with the mirrored lotus. Judging from how she passed that information to Frieren only after (and right after) Sein told them about it, Fern probably didn't know at the time. But she surely appreciated that it worked out just right, so when the embarrassed Stark offered a replacement she very elegantly rejected.
On the ring: Frieren never thought that way because she knew it was her that randomly picked the ring and for sure she did not pick it based on any meaning. She just felt a little strange that Himmel would present the ring in such a serious way. But now, 80 years afterwards, AFTER Fern told her what the flower language means, she put the two and two together, remembered Himmel's face, and realized what Himmel had in mind. Too bad the presentation should have been more impactful - they should have perhaps inform the audience of the randomness of her picking earlier and separate from when Himmel received and inspected the ring. When the audience realized the meaning of the mirrored lotus, everyone was guessing that Himmel must have purchased this ring to profess his love (which was actually not the case, but still it got the audience ready in that direction) - it constituted an unintentional spoiler of the final scene.
It's interesting that Frieren now appreciates other people's time sufficiently to want to give up searching, and Fern becomes the one that encourages her to keep searching for something that she really cares about. Both characters have grown since episode 2 where they got into their conflict over whether to search for the seeds for the blue moon flowers that Frieren wanted to see.
Oh yeah I love that call back to episode 2 and realising how much they've both changed and come to understand each other since then
この指輪のシーンは漫画ファンの間でも最高のシーンとして語られる事が多いです
ヒンメルはフリーレンを愛してました
叶わぬ思いを指輪に残していたのです
I totally can see why, it's definitely my favourite scene so far!
This episode has Violet Evergarden's vibe.
In VE, Violet was told "I love you" by his dying commander who is in love with her. Being a war orphan brought up to be a killing machine, she only understood much later that the feeling she had was grief for a love one she lost. She spent the entire series slowly finding back her human heart.
Frieren's case was somewhat of a lighter touch. She didn't know the significant of the mirrored lotus and doubted Himmel actually understood it's meaning when the ring was gifted to her. But unlike musclehead Stark, Himmel understood the significant of the symbol and took to his knees to put on the ring for her, even though Frieren didn't understood it. She only understood that 29 years after the person who loved her died. Even then, there's nothing she could do but muster a forced smile when asked if she's glad to have found the ring.
It's probably hard to feel grief if you have a lifespan like Freiren, when everything important or not just disappear over time.
The truth is that they loved each other deeply. But Frieren is an immoral elf, falling in love for an elf takes a century or more. Himmel was a human and fell in love with Frieren. But because Frieren is an elf, it takes her far longer to develop feelings like love. Frieren is only just beginning to realize her love for Himmel. Almost 30 years after his passing. Their love is a beautiful tragedy. That's why Himmel never married or had children despite being The Hero. His only love was Frieren.
The only thing I'll disagree with is the idea that she is just realizing "now". She was already in love back then. She perfectly knew how they felt for each other. And what he meant with his proposal. But he was mortal - and they both knew it. We, the audience are just learning the depth of their relationship now - it does not mean that she, as a character , is discovering it too. We are not shown her answer to the proposal. It does not mean there was none...
I wonder if the fact that she is an elf actually plays such a big role of it's just because of how Frieren is. I'd like to think that she did love him back then but just didn't know him because she didn't understand her feelings
@@OtakuMai I think the real problem is time. Elves are practically immortal in this series. They also have very little interest in romance and procreation as it is. I suspect that elves might take more than a century to develop romantic feelings for each other. In the past, before the demons tried to completely wipe them out, elves lived in small secluded villages. They had families but were still very few in number. I think that elves just exist on such a different time scale from humans that only now so long after Himmel's passing is Frieren starting to acknowledge those feelings. I think this is just normal for immortal elves. Elves probably become friends and it might be two or three hundred years before they consider marriage.
Besides his idiocy, Stark would literally make the perfect father. Kind hearted, he's a people's person, kids love him, he's strong asf, AND that boy can cook.
lmaoo the audio peak whenever there's romantic scene 😆
HAHAHA hope you weren’t wearing headphones 😅😂
"I'm gonna be obsessed with Himmel." Oh, yeah, this might be your episode of the season then, hahah. And you need the Stark and Fern ship to sail, huh? I guess you could say they need to get to the STERN of the ship..
Definitely my favourite so far haha!! OMG I BURST OUT LAUGHING 😂
I wonder if Himmel has been told that elves are not romantic by nature, either by Frieren herself or others. Maybe he knew so that was why he have that bittersweet smile so often when interacting with Frieren.
Oh yeah I wonder too thought it could just be him knowing what Frieren is like. That bittersweet smile puts me through so many emotions though 🥺
you're my favorite react youtuber (don't tell the others)
Since putting ring did not work Himmel decided change plan to mass producing his statue
watching frieren slowly come to realize that she loved himmel and now has to grieve him longer than she knew him is so heartbreaking but so endearing, i literally can't believe i'd never heard of this series for so long it's so well written
Frieren is a lucky girl to be like by Himmel...
but she really miss that 50 years with him
poor Himmel
Both Stark and Fern are 18 at this moment of the story
Freiren breaking our heart but also healing it back every week T_T
i swear mai is my go to channel for romantic episode reactions its soo good AHAHAH

HAHA yes! Impossible not to lose it seeing that!
I watched your video over 20 times today.
I watched some reaction videos. This time you are the best.
I especially enjoyed reading your emotions when you paused the video.
I didn't know what Himmel would end up doing, but I was surprised at how quickly you found out.
Aww thank you so much, I’m really happy you enjoyed my reaction 🥹🩷
This is the best anime ive ever watched, in my entireeee lifee
Frieren realizing that Himmel loved her is such a sad realization for her since Himmel's gone. Fern knows she has feelings for Stark but that boy is still very clueless and Fern was mad that he suggested to replace the gift. It makes sense now why Himmel never got married and have kids. It's funny that Himmel bought the ring and knew the meaning behind it while Stark just bought it as an accident 😂. What stands out to me is that the show compares Stark and Himmel and Frieren and Fern. Fern and Stark are both 18 btw.
Yeah it's nice seeing the parallels between their relationships, the similarities and differences
Frieren you absolute dolt, the guy who HAS A FAVORITE FLOWER DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT FLOWER LANGUAGE?! the kneeling and putting a ring on that finger can be forgiven for it is human culture which I guess Frieren is not the greatest at, but damn, every one in that street must have been watching and thinking "he head over heels in love with her"
HAHAHA FOR REAL!! 😂
Did you notice the wedding bells after Himmel put the ring on her finger?
I did on my second watch and AHHHHH!!!
@@OtakuMai I also did the AHHHHH!!!. My neighbours were concerned. ☺

They really tell us the most beautiful romance story right after the dude is freakin dead. They're evil
Rightttt every time I remember that Himmel is dead and they can never be together I feel a pang in my chest
Stark loves fern eternally without realising it I wonder what that could be mean 👀
They’ve got to be end gameee!
The ring was foreshadowed in ep1 and ep12. Also, part B of this episode(manga 30th chapter) was chosen as the most voted chapter by the fans(200k ppl voting). And it is done by the official.

日本の原作漫画では…この回が一番人気ですよ ❢

First of all, I don't understand English.
Therefore, I apologize if the English is strange.
The English title of Sousou no Frieren is Frieren:Beyond Journey's End, but in Japanese it is written as 「葬送のフリーレン」.
The Japanese word "Sousou"(葬送) means "funeral" in English.
In other words, a funeral is to say a final farewell to the deceased and send them off to a crematorium or cemetery. Also, it means a ritual for that purpose.
I'm sure you've noticed by now, but it's a double name used for both allies and enemies.
This time, the first half was about Stark and Fern, and the second half was about Himmel and Frieren.
In the beginning, it was cute to see Fern angry because Stark didn't prepare a birthday present for Fern's birthday.
I got the feeling that Fern liked Stark at that point.
And it's nice that Stark thought about picking out a birthday present together.
I think it would be nice if these two started dating.
I also liked how Sein acted as an intermediary between Fern and Stark. He's definitely an adult.
Then, in the second half, Himmel proposes to Frieren.
A few episodes ago, Frieren was staring at the ring, so I thought there was something going on, but it turned out to be this.
By the time Himmel knelt down and placed the ring on Frieren's left ring finger, I think it was more than enough to say that Himmel loved Frieren.
Besides, I think Himmel noticed the meaning of the flower in the ring that Frieren had chosen so randomly.
Frieren did not notice this and Himmel passed away.
What a wonderful episode, and what a tragic story.
すてきなリアクションですね😊
Thank you 🩷
Stark just turned 18.
Down to just a single character in the OP that we haven't met yet.
Looking forward to meeting them!
Himmel must have loved Freelen, that's why he never had a family and stayed single.
No wonder he collapsed under Freelen's throwing kisses.
But he is human, and if he got married, he would make Freelen sad for a long time.
That's why you didn't confess when you put the ring on her finger.
Funny how you immediately blamed stark even though this part of the story's point is showing that fern was wrong for blaming stark that way 😅
Idk I’m just very defensive of my girl hahaha plus I relate to her in that I’d be upset too if someone forgot my birthday 😂😂 love Stark too though and hated seeing him so sad. Glad they worked things out
@@OtakuMai i feel like fern very much has a soft apot for stark, which explains why she got so mad at him, it's because she subconcipusly perceives him as close to her maybe
@@Despotic_Waffle Definitely!!
素敵なリアクション✨
Sometimes i wish the spell for lost accessories existed
葬送のフリーレンがとても素敵
me too, cry...
it is way more of Fern's fault than Stark's
1.) She didn't know Stark's birthday herself
2.) She already has a clue that Stark has NO idea on how birthday works
3.) NO ONE is entitled to give you a gift just because you yourself gave one, or just because you demand it
4.) Even if none of the 3 above applies, her NOT BEING DIRECT on what she wants from him (which is, by the way, MOST women are.) is an ASSmove. Men are NOT mind readers.
5.) If it is dumb for men not to be able to read women's minds, it is DUMBER for women not to be direct and expect men to give them what they exactly envision inside their brain withOUT telling it.
And the proposal moment is quite symbolic, not just because of what the ring meant to UNITE Frieren and HIMmel, but the clock that SEPARATED them since the only one that is getting in the way of the both of them is TIME.
the otto refference lmao
I feel sorry for Himmel 😅.
I've been a big fan of your reactions and also a big fan of this series, it's so wholesome and meaningful ^.^

They say characters' names in this show are after German words. And "ei" in German pronounces like "ai". That's why "Heiter/Sein" pronounce in that way imo.
