Here's a thought freiren might be emotionally about the same age as fren & stark are now .Given how long elves live
Also here are 2 points she is realizing she had fallen in love with himmel w/ o realizing it till he died (2) fern & stark a a mirror image of her & himmel 's romance if she had fully realized at the time what it was .

Frieren never thought that way because she knew it was her that randomly picked the ring and for sure she did not pick it based on any meaning. She just felt a little strange that Himmel would present the ring in such a serious way. But now, 80 years afterwards, AFTER Fern told her, she put the two and two together, remembered Himmel's face, and realized what Himmel had in mind.
Too bad the presentation should have been more impactful - they should have perhaps inform the audience of the randomness of her picking earlier and separate from when Himmel received and inspected the ring. When the audience realized the meaning of the mirrored lotus, everyone was guessing that Himmel must have purchased this ring to profess his love (which was actually not the case, but still it got the audience ready in that direction) - it constituted an unintentional spoiler of the final scene.

Notice that Fern's bracelet the Lotus is in full bloom, showing that love has or will blossom fully into it's full form. Frieren's ring, however, is still a simple bud and hasn't bloomed yet, showing that Himmel's love will never fully come to fruition, even if it still exists and is still eternal.

The current arc of the manga rn was where Frieren got transported to the past. They(the hero party), got ambushed by a powerful demon whose powers dragged it's target into a dream about what they truly desire.
We first got the pov of Himmel being wed to Frieren, so us readers thought that it was such a sad thing too. But then it got revealed that the Frieren in his dream was the REAL Frieren. Which subtly told us readers that Frieren liked Himmel too and that Himmel became aware that Frieren liked him too in the future.
When it was time for Frieren to return to the future, Himmel thanked her for the good dream, subtly telling us readers that he realized that Future Frieren liked him too.
Then when the Past Frieren woke up and asked them why they're so beaten up, he told nothing about their encounter with Future Frieren in order to not change the future.

@@TurtleMountain while gender does inform your experience, not every man is going to be chasing the love of another, though. further so, i don't think gender is even alot of what informs our experiences as human. personally, i find myself relating on the individual basis, rather than the trait of gender connecting me to another. though, it's undeniably *a* factor, however I don't think it's the dominant trait.
so while that may be a guiding factor, i think there are many demographical factors, like each individual's culture, sexual and romantic preferences (if any), general philosophy, view on if it IS sad for a love declaration to be unseen, considering the belief in fate may tell some that "oh well, it just wasn't to be", and etc.
so while i think that's certainly a correct mark you're hitting, it's probably based on wider demographical factors.

Yep, the author’s writing for this series is just top notch. I haven’t seen this kind of writing in a long while. All of the characters are childish and mature at the same time. The adult one acts like an actual adult while the young ones act their age. It’s insanely realistic. And Himmel the Hero is a very special character. Even though he’s just another hero like thousands of the heroes out there in the other series. But somehow, he surpasses them all. I personally find Frieren’s characters and story telling much better than the like of Mushoku Tensei since each and every moment are well woven together. Each characters are so well crafted and has a lot of depth. And they are feel so real.

It is what it is.

ooh! i started reading Berserk recently. great shirt, Carson!
and maan~ another banger. i love the tragic romance. one-sided love is very fun for writing, as it's so sad. afterall, as an elf, as we've learned, it's impossible to feel romantic feelings. however, if Frieren experienced more life with Himmel, i'm sure their friendship would have grown to a point inwhich their love, romantic vs platonic, would be so great, that it's irrelevant if one feels it romantically and one feels it platonically, as love that great is equally as valuable, platonic or not.

by far the channel with the best comments about the show.
Now about the connection of Freiren and the Goddess its is simpler then it looks. Just as the goddess, Frieren transcends their human companions and by doing so, she can be a keeper of their memories. Sousou means both to burry and to send, implying that only those who remain on earth can "send" someone to the other life but also allowing them to "live" through their memories that they have buried deep in their hearts.

  • @工用-y4k

Note that the Japanese original script did not mention the demon king. He just said she "did well in this battle/conquest". It could be for the demon king but it could be some other area boss they encountered. The English subtitles you are dealing with are worse translations than the version that's used by some other reactors.
Frieren never thought that way because she knew it was her that randomly picked the ring and for sure she did not pick it based on any meaning. She just felt a little strange that Himmel would present the ring in such a serious way. But now, 80 years afterwards, AFTER Fern told her what the flower language means, she put the two and two together, remembered Himmel's face, and realized what Himmel had in mind.
It's interesting that Frieren now appreciates other people's time sufficiently to want to give up searching, and Fern becomes the one that encourages her to keep searching for something that she really cares about. Both characters have grown since episode 2 where they got into their conflict over whether to search for the seeds for the blue moon flowers that Frieren wanted to see.

in original and Mandarin trans the type Sein likes is "older sister"
not just some women, but restrict to "nee-san"
the EN version of older women just makes people--like you two--think he likes MILF
but hell no, he likes older adult "sister", not older adult "mom"
there're many more mistakes by the anime EN trans
like when Sein said it would be better he's being praised by a real older sister
the response of Frieren isn't something shit like "few are older than me"
but "there are few older sister like me in this world"
opinionated I would say, the translation just broke the sentence and lost original meanings

Also, it had a complete mistake translation. When Himmel was buying her a ring, he said like it was a reward for defeating demon monsters(not demons), but the translation was written as the reward of defeating Demon King.

Just a nitpick, but the older woman translation works well actually. "Onee-san" can be interpreted as older/mature woman so it isn't factually wrong as a translation, whilst not being a direct translation to the word. And its more so they were making a joke/sarcastic about his preference, hence bringing up milf. But as Ray said crunchyroll subs has a habit of having poor translation, the demon king one was completely wrong.

@@Arker-hp8rt I mean in general I agree with that concept. But translating is incredibly difficult. Translating words one to one doesn't ensure that the meaning of the origin is properly conveyed. There's a lot of scenarios where using different words can be more efficient and effective in the delivery of the message.

If you read Aria, you know this show won't go down.
This is the style of this author.
Not many people read or watch Aria, cause it has no battle or something exciting.
It's about exploring the world and appreciating of what is around you.
