What i like about your channel is that you not only pick for mid century modern, but then you show ideas of how to use them. That is the best part.
Squirrels, wood peckers, & trash pandas are the worst when you live near woods. I had squirrels chew up 3 sets of garden lights. Then a wood pecker cracked a window by flying into it. After all that the trash pandas kept throwing wild parties on my balcony. I would hear them moving all night long. The fact you found keys is pretty cool. My friend found a lock box in a hidden storage area while doing his reno. The box contained old family pics, documents, funeral hair necklace, & some old coins. I can't wait to see what you find.
😂 trash pandas! FYI I lovvve raccoons but maybe that will change now…. Some of my favorite pictures of me as a kid are feeding raccoons in the woods 😬 🦝
That drop down shelf in the kitchen was common in the 80s (my husband was a custom cabinetmaker) for holding a cookbook. When we remodeled our 50s ranch, tearing out the kitchen was like being on an archeological dig….the layers of flooring, different paint colors behind the cabinets, wallpaper, etc. We spent ten months remodeling our house - evenings and weekends - before we moved in. Much easier to remodel when you’re not living in it!
That’s exactly what we’re doing and I’m so grateful we have this opportunity to do that. It’s hard living in a construction zone. Luckily our homes are less than 5 min apart so it’s east to make trips back and forth ❤️
I have the cookbook holder under my kitchen cabinet also! We bought this house in 93, so the
“New” cupboards were probably put in in the 80’s!
There are some practical old fashioned features from the last century I remember. You know houses were smaller - especially kitchens. Ironing was a much bigger part of living and there used to be built in ironing boards that dropped down out of a slim cabinet in the wall. Also cutting boards that pulled out from under the limited countertops.
I’ve seen a couple of comments where people are worried the candles in the sconces on your patio may be a fire hazard. Perhaps some glass “chimneys “ can be found that would fit into the candle holders to protect the wood pillars.
@@laraemitchell9064 they make battery operated flicker flame candles in tapers (Luminara).
You could also put an IPad on that drop down shelf to search recipes while cooking in the kitchen.

I would move the candle holders from the porch posts to a wall. They're close to the wooden plant hangers and people's hair-- any little breeze could be a fire hazard. Against a wall, they'll be safer and won't look too busy. IMO.

Wow that's a lot you got going on there! Your choices for things are awesome! I put a small jar in the wall when I renovated my little beach cottage with a blessing some glitter some sand , shells some charms (cross, hearts, peace signs) the contractors card and my name and date and phone#. You should put a little blessing jar inside your walls b4 you close them up. 🤷I'm excited to watch your progress! 😁👍👏

I'm not the biggest fan of mid-century, but I have to say I really love your new home! You have fabulous ceilings and so much light from all the windows. Your garden is fantastic! I can see why you bought this home!!! The wall sconces you select are perfect to the house. The kitchen cabinets will really make your kitchen a show piece... I'm impressed! 😁👍❤️ BTW, your home has great vibes, there's something very peaceful and serene about the property!

The pull down is a cookbook/recipe holder. I had a clear one in my remodeled kitchen and I loved it. I think it would look fine under the shelf, maybe after you do a little magic to it!

I keep trivets on my pull down, it is convenient and out of sight on demand storage. 👍
Maybe you can use that idea in your office too, always good to have a extra shelf.
The light fixtures are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lighting can make a room or brake a room in my opinion.💖💞💞💖

Those wall sconces are gorgeous. Your decor takes me back to my childhood. My parents had great taste with what is now called mid-century modern home and decor in the 1960's. In hindsight, I wish I'd had the foresight to keep some things.

That is a cookbook holder-so neat, Hope you can reuse it. I love/envy your huge window over the sink looking out onto that amazing back yard! Your outdoor lights are so magical. Wow, those starry church lights were such a good score and look amazing. The candle holders on the post are so cool-keep them the matte brass! Love the idea of the hand painted tile wall in Little Italy and the fountain-it sounds perfect. I love that you want unique items and take the risk because it expresses your style and always looks so inviting. Can't wait for part 2!

The shape of your dream table reminds me of the giant wooden industrial spools that people used for tables in their yards during my childhood in the south. Finding one of those would would be a very sturdy and beautiful vintage piece for your outdoor space. And, you wouldn't have to build it.

My last house (built in 1964) had the pull down recipe book holder. I LOVED it!
I think your kitchen recipe book book holder would work great this century with an iPad. And I can see the squirrels using those lights as a squirrel zip line! Love those interior sconce lights!
What a great find on the cookbook holder. We just redid our kitchen and found 5 layers of wallpaper. Two of them had been removed and I found slivers of them behind a couple upper cabinets. I personally removed 3 layers of wallpaper. A previous owner was a wallpaper nut. We did patching and painted. Tore out 1930's cabinets that were put in our 1955 built house (some time in 1970's). We put in new lower cabinets and a pantry. The old pantry was a former hot water tank closet. Sadly we found gas and water connections in bottom section. We had a plumber come out to fix that and fix old gas range connection. Cabinets ordered in April and arrived in late July (due to covid). Countertop came in a bit later, in August. We installed the cabinets and a local company did countertop install. We bought new range in Feb arrived in early April. Dishwasher bought and came quickly. New fridge was bought when old one failed just last week. We still have shiplap, flooring and back door replacement to do. So worth all the work. It looks 100% better. We did blue cabinets and will put in floating shelves eventually instead of upper cabinets.
The blue wallpaper looks like it should be on the short wall. By putting it on the larger wall, it looks like it may "close" the room in, making it feel cramped 🤷♀️ for someone that doesn't have a "mind's eye", you have excellent vision & taste with decorating 😍 I'm just upset you've left me hanging 😭 I have no patience 😂 I'm so excited for your next vlog!!!! Always enjoy your channel!

It’s a Northern Flicker. A member of the woodpecker family. He is good luck and very common here in Oregon. Beautiful birds.
@@kimmaddalena5493 They are attracted to building materials for some reason. They are common in Idaho as well, where many of my friends had some real challenges to convince them to stick to trees.

Laura, I'm loving all your choices! The cabinets are going to look incredible. We did custom hickory cabinets in a house we built about 10 years ago and they looked incredible. They had a lot of personality and were polarizing-- people had strong opinions about them, but we loved them. I can't wait to see how your kitchen evolves!

In my home built in 1994, I have the same drop-down cookbook shelf which conveniently tucks under the upper cabinet, unseen. I also have another drop-down shelf, same size, that was built with a knife block system for storing a large assortment of chef knives, freeing up counter or drawer space.
