i don't have a regular day.. it changes... well school mostly in the morning... ooh you'd be happy to know i did it! I went to Massey and yes, it's only been a semester, but i have been pushed more with my design thinking... so glad!
I too am a graphic designer working from home in Portland, Oregon, USA. I am staff for a small design agency in the San Francisco area. Being staff, my schedule is a little more strict: 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday with a 1-hour lunch break. I work almost exclusively on printed materials. I was afraid I might miss the buzz of the workplace, but find that with instant messages, FaceTime, etc. I don't miss it much at all. I play whatever music or talk stations I want all day; but I would NEVER used headphones. I hate wearing stuff! (Though I do stay fully clothed throughout the day.) How far are you from London? Do you consider your town a nice suburb?
I'm same too. I like staying home to work, but most days I'll head to office to work with teams / clients since they have a bigger display and I get to step out of the den. It's hard to get self-motivated sometimes without interaction.
It varies for me based on the day, sometimes I just cannot find focus at home and need to leave and go to a cafe. Other days I'll be so focussed at home that i forget to eat! haha
Own my business and work from home, so I tend to start my days at 10AM lol because I'm not very productive in the morning, but I can work till 11PM with lots of focus if I need to. Really enjoying your videos that I just found yesterday, funny because I'm currently trying out ConvertKit :)
At the moment I build pages myself! BUT it wasn't that long ago that i was sending assets to a developer so I will definitely do a video about this while the process is fresh in my mind
My day as a designer is a fairly boring one... tend to arrive at work at 9 and work solidly all morning (this is my most productive time). I make an effort to take a lunch break around 12.30 - 1 - I think getting some fresh air and time away from your screen is a good idea. Normally I spend most of my time in front of my Mac or alternatively I can be found art directing photo shoots which is fun! Today I was sourcing props for a shoot!
Great Insight and awesome to see your productivity! Now that I have to work on my portfolio website again, I notice how difficult it was to work at home. There is so much distraction and other things I want to do. I really need to get used to that work rhythm again.
it always takes some adjustment after I've been away for a while too, so I know what you mean! I think the key is to notice what is distracting you and remove the distraction from your view.
As a freshly minted, remote worker I see a lot of similarities in my days with yours. I use headphones when I want to concentrate, and I use a time timer which allows me to focus since I am racing against the clock. During lunch I may meet a friend or walk my dog around the block.
I'm not sure I'm the best person to make that video as I got my job through networking later on in my career, but I will have a think and see what advice I could give!
Daily in brazil we spent like 8AM to 5PM working in an agency. Curious about today is that we spent some time teaching trainees designers and then, thinking about it, we have a clue of how much we know and we learn :)
Wohoo a surprise vlog!!!As a freelancer, no two days are alike for me (unless I'm on a tight deadline). That's why I prefer doing weekly vlogs but they really are hard to commit to sometimes so I totally get you :)
How did your perception of your living space change since starting working from home? I feel like if I did that I would feel constricted and isolated (I see going to work also as an opportunity to interact and socialize), and like I'm always but also never working. I mean, how do you a schedule that can divide leisure time from work when working from home?
this is such a great question! It is definitely easy to work a lot when you work from home, but for me the 'close the laptop' time is when my partner returns home from work and we will cook dinner and chill out for the evening. I don't know what i would do if he worked from home too though! Sometimes i get sick of being in my apartment, but that's when I go work at a cafe :)
Your Vlogs are really cool and right now I'm making websites with Sketch, learned from your videos! Seaway! something wonderful is a wonderfull song! Listen to a lot of punk when designing, all the creativity is bounching out of my head into my computer or something.. Thanks a lot!
Hi Charli, thank you for your vids. I'm also a remote worker so question: how do you log your hours to get paid? Are you strict about the hours or you get paid per day or monthly? Thanks again and keep going with your channel!
+Hugo Pineda Im on a rolling monthly contract with no set number of hours so luckily there is no requirement to log my time! But when I do time track I use Toggl.
My day is pretty similar to yours :) I get up and usually take slow mornings, aka finish a whole cup of coffee before opening the laptop. I'll sometimes watch a youtube video or even a show just to get my brain working. (not a morning person) Then I'll work til about 1 and go on a walk.Come back make lunch and dinner haha, I find I have the most energy to do food stuff around this time and it is a great perk of working remote. I'll work til about 5, then I'll either go to the gym and come home and eat, or go meet up with some friends. I'm also applying for jobs to work in an office again, I think I need to enter that season again.
What company do you remotely work for? I'm a designer as well and recently moved to Switzerland. I can't speak German (yet) and was thinking of trying out working remotely. Thanks for sharing your day in the life! Love your videos 💕
Charli, can you tell me specification of your macbook pro, please? I'm buying one, but I dont't know which would be best for that kind of work like you do.
Mine is a mid-2014 model that I bought from the Apple refurbished store! generally more memory and a faster processor is always gonna be better, but they're also expensive...
Nice plant! I feel like this time you'll keep it alive. I am myself more gifted with animals than with plants. A month ago, I took care of a baby bat for two days, gave him a small horizontal bar to which he hung himself by the feet and also some insects to eat (not my favorite part...). It makes me laugh every time I think about it. You made very beautiful icons. Love especially how the white letters stand out from the deep blue background and the presence of little touches of orange and white in the center that bring life to each overall icon. So, you have water again... Sometimes, I tell myself that without a short water outage from time to time, we would probably forget that having running water at home is kind of a luxury compared to how people live in many other parts of the world. Have a great week!
I hope I can keep it alive! I'll keep you updated in the vlog. and you're SO right that not having running water for a little is a huge privilege check.
Missed your vlog!!! Can you believe I went through a surgery? Gallbladder removal! So... Like an old lady Im just here to say: take care of your health!!! ❤️❤️❤️ (Im super fine now!).
My day starts at 7:30am, I start with two coffees then from 8am - 10am is housework followed two more coffees and something to eat, 10:30am - 1pm I start any spreadsheet designs that need doing or finishing plus any document designs that need starting or completing, lunch is from 1pm - 2pm then from 2pm - 6pm is presentation design and sorting out accounts, 6pm - 7pm dinner, 7:30pm - 9pm sort and reply to emails and do my online shopping if needed. Sometimes I go out for lunch.
I loved that phrase "it is my youtube channel i can do whatever i want " hehehe that's the spirit!..i dont know the youtuber life and all the scheduling thing, but I feel that (in my humble opinion) too many of the youtube channels I follow stress too much for that, which I get.. but I love when the youtuber it is like that..relax..this is a creative process, to connect..communicate and not to stress out for uploading or that :) but yeah i totally get when people use youtube for a living.
I so know what you mean! I love that TH-cam isn't my job because I can be more relaxed with it. It's not a tv show where I have to have a video up on a certain day at a certain time every week, it's just my life! So sometimes life gets in the way of uploading :)
ah my days are usually boring! usually up around 8-9, get ready, make food, i get to work at 10, and then i am typically working the most during the first four hours. i'll take a 15 min break around 1.30 where you can usually find me on my personal laptop, doing some work or editing or something for my own personal projects. continue on with my actual job (i work as a data entry specialist for an ecommerce site and they also have me working on some graphic design stuff in regards to several websites and the magazine they run- this month was my first time heavily working on the magazine, lots of layouts, some writing and editing. exciting stuff!) i take lunch around 4.30 as i have more endurance in the first half of the day; take another 15 about an hour after i get back, off at 7. i've been injured for the last month so usually i'd come home, eat dinner if i'm hungry then hit the gym. now i just laze around; work on various side projects and game. :p i went back to the gym yesterday but turns out i'm still injured. :( anyways missed your vlogs! xo
ooo thats so interesting that you have lunch so late! I'm usually really hungry by 12 haha Thanks for sharing your day! and I'm sorry to hear you've been injured lately :( I hope you recover soon!
I work for a remote company, so I’m a full time employee, not a freelancer. I do sometimes take on freelance projects that come in to my inbox if they’re interesting tho!
I'll have that on my grave stone. "Today I didn't get done all that I wanted" freelanced for nearly 10 years and I think I've said that pretty much every day.
+David Shawe nope! I don’t think cutting out meat and dairy completely is necessary. I just try to minimise my consumption and choose veggie options when possible :)

CharliMarieTV ya. maybe so. the toilet thing gets to me... you'd end up paying to flush at that point. 😂 Keep up the great work. I enjoy the vlogs too! I'm in that "I'll start a channel one day phase" You and Flux inspire me👍🏽
I actually like this random vlog / do daily or weekly vlogs .
90% of my life is similar to this vlog . I like staying alone and doing my things . ♡
thats good to know! I may do more random day vlogs like this :)
i don't have a regular day.. it changes... well school mostly in the morning... ooh you'd be happy to know i did it! I went to Massey and yes, it's only been a semester, but i have been pushed more with my design thinking... so glad!
YASSS GIRL So happy to hear this and so so proud of you!!!
:3 :3 yiih thanks!!
Thanks for the vlog and keeping me company for the length of this video. Happy Wednesday 😁
Happy wednesday to you too Ashley! Pleased to keep you company :)

Back with a bang Charli! Loved this video... also... great sing along... lifted my spirits a lot!
yay! I'm happy to hear that :) I sing along to that song multiple times a day haha
Yay Charli is back :D it is ok if you take a break sometimes it is needed to just clear your mind and refresh.
exactly! glad you understand :)
Completely understand. And its your channel you can do what you want :D High 5 and keep up the great work.
YES! Finally! Been missing the vlogs, even if you're just at home :)
it still blows my mind that people are interested in watching me just work at home haha. but at the same time I'm really happy you enjoy it!
I'm same too. I like staying home to work, but most days I'll head to office to work with teams / clients since they have a bigger display and I get to step out of the den. It's hard to get self-motivated sometimes without interaction.

yaaas, those days where we forget to eat are most productive!

Please make a video about your role as a web designer and how you send your final designs to the developer. Thanks.
Yes!
At the moment I build pages myself! BUT it wasn't that long ago that i was sending assets to a developer so I will definitely do a video about this while the process is fresh in my mind

Well Charlie, getting your work done so professionally is just your hobby or another sign of having the 'Girl Power'....! :)
Girl power indeed!
Great Insight and awesome to see your productivity! Now that I have to work on my portfolio website again, I notice how difficult it was to work at home. There is so much distraction and other things I want to do. I really need to get used to that work rhythm again.

yesss I'm a big fan of the pomodoro timer when I'm approaching a deadline!
I totally get the headphone thing you're talking about. I do it all the time even if I'm alone!!
glad I'm not the only one!!
A video about advice of landing a remote job out of school / early stages of your career would be cool!!
I'm not sure I'm the best person to make that video as I got my job through networking later on in my career, but I will have a think and see what advice I could give!
I honestly love your vlogs so much!
😭 you're so kind Lu! I honestly have no idea why anyone enjoys seeing me just... work... haha but I'm glad people do!
I've missed your vlogs. So good to see you again :-).
thanks Libby! I can't believe you've been watching my vlogs for so long, I really appreciate that you're still here!
Daily in brazil we spent like 8AM to 5PM working in an agency. Curious about today is that we spent some time teaching trainees designers and then, thinking about it, we have a clue of how much we know and we learn :)
thats great you use some time to teach others!
Wohoo a surprise vlog!!!As a freelancer, no two days are alike for me (unless I'm on a tight deadline). That's why I prefer doing weekly vlogs but they really are hard to commit to sometimes so I totally get you :)
exactly! I feel like a single day vlog really highlights the fact i rarely leave the house haha
I like music talk! I recently discovered Seaway and their latest is a great summery record.
it definitely is! I'm so sad that when they next play London I'll be in New Zealand D:
How did your perception of your living space change since starting working from home? Glad you're back! Enjoyed seeing a day in the life. Was that a bullet journal toward the end?
sure was! I've made a video about how I use my bullet journal here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/inlYt5RsPYU/w-d-xo.html
well that copy and paste went weird...
Nice seeing these vlogs again :)
Nice job on those badges, I really like them!
thanks! I'm really pleased with how they turned out :)

Good on you for noticing that you might need a change in your life and doing something about it!
Thanks! Do you ever miss working in an office?
I really don't to be honest!
Yay you're back with a vlog!
Love the RIP succulent part lol :D
poor succulent xD
What company do you remotely work for? I'm a designer as well and recently moved to Switzerland. I can't speak German (yet) and was thinking of trying out working remotely. Thanks for sharing your day in the life! Love your videos 💕
Nevermind! Found the answer in another video 😉
Thanks for quick reply. Is there a lot of difference between i5 or i7 processor?
No idea sorry! I wouldn't say i'm a computer expert haha. My mid-2014 macbook has an i7 processor though.
Neither am I an expert :) But thanks anyway! Must be an i7 than :)
I also work from home, so my day is pretty much like yours:)
yay for working from home!
Nice plant! I feel like this time you'll keep it alive. I am myself more gifted with animals than with plants. oh my gosh!!!! I'm sorry to hear that BUT happy to hear you're doing well now!
How much time a day do you invest in your side projects like the online store and your freelance commissions? Thank you!
I would say I spend about 3 hours a day on side project stuff! :)
I do the same thing with headphones while I work at home! Especially when I really need to focus on a major project.
glad I'm not the only one! haha
My day starts at 7:30am, I start with two coffees then from 8am - 10am is housework followed two more coffees and something to eat, 10:30am - 1pm I start any spreadsheet designs that need doing or finishing plus any document designs that need starting or completing, lunch is from 1pm - 2pm then from 2pm - 6pm is presentation design and sorting out accounts, 6pm - 7pm dinner, 7:30pm - 9pm sort and reply to emails and do my online shopping if needed. sounds like a great structure for a day!

Hi Charli, good video as always! Hey just wondering, what is your iMac spec?!
I actually use a 15" macbook connected to a 4k monitor!
Brilliant charli love your blogs
glad you're still liking the vlogs Mike!
I paused the video to leave my previous comment, and I have to pause again for YAY Yoga! ^_^ I'm on that journey too.
i need to make time for yoga more often! its such a great destressor
I do the same haha if I really have to focus I put on headphones. Isolate myself from the tiny noises all around :)
yes exactly!! I find it so easy to get in my own little world when wearing headphones
YYEEAAHHH SEAWAY!!!
Everything is cool man!
Yay a vlog 🎊❤️ also is that almond milk I see? 👍👍👍🐄🐄
it is! I've never been a fan of the taste of milk so prefer to use almond or coconut milk, especially because it's better for the environment too :)
The badges look really pretty :) Good on you learning how to drive
thank you Danica!
Missed your vlogs! Loved this though, I'd love to work from home!
thanks Chontelle!
From where you get the clients? or do you work for any freelancers website?
I work for a remote company, so I’m a full time employee, not a freelancer. I do sometimes take on freelance projects that come in to my inbox if they’re interesting tho!
As always, an inspiration :)
stahhpp you're too kind!
I'll have that on my grave stone. "Today I didn't get done all that I wanted" freelanced for nearly 10 years and I think I've said that pretty much every day.
unfortunately so true!
Think this was one of my favourite logs of yours. Your 'average day' looks pretty identical to mine, haha 😅
gotta love that working from home life!
Amazing life! 😊
😊
Yes, I listen to music too so I can focus working at home! :D
Designer... what a cool homeworks lol
Amazing badges!
yay I'm happy you like them :)
Yellow light on the face and white light in the background window...! hmmm... 😯
random question but what size apple watch do you have?
it's the small one! (i think thats 38mm)
What program did you use for the social media graphics ?
I just used Sketch because that's what I'd designed the landing page in, so all of my assets were already in there :)
Love you videos just keep watching the same videos over and over,
Great video 😊
thanks Matilde!
But the real question is, are my cacti still alive?! 😂
they are!! (though who knows how long for lol)
I only ever leave the house to go gym 🙄 the rest of the day I am working at home
i feel you haha
Muy day is passing producing and producing music :D
Cool page, cool mission patches! Awesome plant-based vibes and tunes. Are you thinking of going vegan?
+David Shawe nope! I don’t think cutting out meat and dairy completely is necessary. I just try to minimise my consumption and choose veggie options when possible :)
lol cool. My plant-based senses tingle when I see Alpro and Tofu on cam. hahaha
Outside of webwork I promote a plant-based diet using #99percentvegan on Instagram. Check out my videos on Invisible Building or +99percentvegan TH-cam channels and if you're interested... I'm looking for influencers to take part in a 7dayVEGAN challenge. Editing my first week at the moment. ;)
Also, you're pushing out loads of awesome content, so don't worry about slacking with a vlog hiatus!
But it's awesome to see a new video. lol.
you're not alone, we need music to concentrate
When you realize the power going out isn't so bad....
no water? 🤤
it was off again today too! but this time they warned us about it (and it was to fix the issue that caused the outage on Monday) No power sucks more tho I think! Cos you can always go buy water jugs.
CharliMarieTV ya. maybe so. the toilet thing gets to me... you'd end up paying to flush at that point. 😂 Keep up the great work. I enjoy the vlogs too! I'm in that "I'll start a channel one day phase" You and Flux inspire me👍🏽
It's been so long!
too long!
Whats the name of your new friend Charlie...! If you need one name, here it is -'Green Pal'
think I'll call it Spikey! haha
