Best takeaway really is that being a creative is really still about the grit and determination to be consistent at it, which is just the most unromantic and un-”random“ thing to say about creativity. It's kind of beautiful that to be spontaneous, to be truly spontaneous, a certain level of consistency must be achieved. (I'm droning on, hahaha.)
@@MatthewEncina To an average person this is extraneous, but the more experiance and developed a person becomes, rock climbing turns into a wake up routine.
This channel has rekindled my passion for design. I thought I could "quit" being an artist and give up trying to live off of it as a profession. I saw myself as talentless and not good enough to compete with others so I concentrated on doing the business side of things. I didn't think it was possible to meld both worlds. So thank you. :) Really excited to see more from this channel.
The shit we do for money seldom is pretty but knowing that your efforts contributed to something worthwhile is validation enough for most artists. I wish we lived in a world where we had the upper hand and not the other way around :/
I feel you. On the other hand, a lot of the time it's when we have limitations we produce the best work. It's like starting a magazine. You have to keep within the boundaries of that niche you've chosen. But within those boundaries you're free.
Matthew, it's a pleasure getting a sneak peek into your world. You seem to have a great balance in your daily life. I originally signed up (way back when) for Chris and Jose, and now it's great to get to know the rest of the awesome team at The Futur.
acecg I used to work in a job with alternating day shift and night shift. Day shift meant waking up at 4:45am, night shift meant waking at 4:45pm. I slept just fine through either of those providing that the room was dark enough. You will be able to do it no worries once you establish the sleeping pattern. And I can tell you personally that waking at 4 or 5am is the best for the simple fact that the world is still asleep at that time, you can wholeheartedly focus on whatever you choose
And in terms of creativity, I believe Ben Burns covered that in a video a while back. Apparently the body shuts off the front part of the brain before sleep which gives you uninhibited creativity. It's a good method to come up with concepts and is backed with science
Matthew, please do more like this.. I like the way you recording and editing the video for personal vlog.. and you guys delivered a great content as always.
Thanks for the insight on your life Matthew, really makes me consider the time I use/don't use on a day to day basis. Need to start going to the gym again...
Thanks Matthew! Honestly as a designer/businessman, time management is so hard for me. Now you give me hope. lol. Thanks for sharing your day! More power!
especially you. I am from Kenya still teaching myself design. I still have a very long way e.g. at the moment, I am not able to design even a simple logo but will get there. I am from Kenya..hehe (rare people here). I would love to see your daily life as a designer.
I really enjoyed watching this blog. I hope you'll do more on a daily or regular basis. It really helps seeing the behind the scenes as a creative director and designer, especially for design students like myself. Thank you for this. 😊😊👍👍
Thank you for these videos! Love seeing the behind the scenes of the day-to-day grind from people we look up to and admire professionally. I wanted to know Matthew, can you lend some insight as to your work relationship with project managers? The pros and cons perhaps of your experiences? Could be a conversation not for public consumption and if so, I'd love to DM you some more questions about this topic. Thanks again for the great content guys!
I wanted to leave a feedback here, after watching this video I changed my habits and my income changed after that, I wanted to thank you, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! (The letters in the upper box indicate a cry of happiness and a strong hug)
lol you're eating dinner when I'm like.. asleep. I prefer to start my day really early, be working by 7am and be done at like, 3-4 pm. I've always been terrible at working in the afternoons, so I'd rather go work out or something at that point. love videos like these though, awesome job!
This videos was really inspiring, really something to look forward too, to be compasioned and also organized is soo damn important, most people just don't even know it. You actually set minded me with just this videos, guys pls, keep up the awesome work you're doing ! ;)
What a life! No life-work balance! In Denmark, we work from 9am-5pm and after 5 pm you have time to hang out with your friends or work on your own projects! Good luck and hope the US will respect human values more than corporates values!
Thanks for sharing... workout time is very important. Y'all always leave good tips. if I'm correct you created this video? Your skills are on point! Salute to #thefutur
Really enjoyed this. I hope you guys make a playlist for these kind of videos. Also maybe videos on how projects are done from inception to completion (My opinion though).
Loved this episode, really well made, with a large variety of techniques used and balanced perfectly. PS: climbing looks really inspiring as a workout, for sure I will look after a climbing gym around my place.
Can’t believe you love rock climbing 🧗♀️.. I thought no designer will want to go rock climbing...and I’m the weirdo ! 😂 I also been use bullet journal for 5 years now :) can’t believe this shows how much common to designer around the world 🌎
Haha, i said the same thing regarding the games 3 years ago. Played once. A follow up could be cool. There is always this discussion online for some which is, do gaming setups work as workstations? And would be awesome to see it coming from the hands of the Creative Director at Blind.
3am here in the U.K. Still excited for another video from the main man himself. Chris, do you have a business email? Got a project I'm currently working on and I'd like to get your opinion on a few things. Stay creative buddy.
I am just catching up on all the videos I missed. This is another great content piece. I think you can guess my next question. When are we going to see the Day in the Life of Chris Do including home, wife and kids??? Keep up the great work!!
I hear ya, Chris. However, if you decide to do this Day in the Life series, which I think is superb. I think it is inevitable. The reason I am interested in your daily life is that I am also an entrepreneur/business owner that continuously strives for work life balance. Both my wife and I are entrepreneurs raising a 19 month old daughter. So, you can imagine our challenges. If not you, maybe a day in the life of other entrepreneurs would be content that would reallly resonate for me. Thanks!!
Great video! Thanks for sharing your day with us Matthew. Also, I'm watching The Office, it's nice to finish the day laughing. I hope we can see more videos like this in the future, from Chris too!
i can't do a hand written to-do list anymore, I have to use our PMS (wrike) and when i need adhoc lists in meetings and such i just go to notes on my iphone or mac (which sync to eachother)
No Weetabix for breakfast? How do you keep the energy levels up? Thanks for posting this. It must have been a bit strange having the cameras on you for so long but it's a great insight.
Thanks! by the way, i look through your website and found lots of interesting podcast and books you recommended. It's really inspiring for me as a young designer.

If you love what you do, sleep is an interruption. But if you dont, then it is the best escape.
YodaVon .VaderWalker well said.
The Futur deep stuff
this is true... i often wish i didn't have to sleep. we're lucky... very lucky.
i just want to design but school is my interruption. i'm in college :/
Are you sure you a designer? I didn't see you procrastinate..
lol.
ECA EDG *see
Hahahaaa... That's so TRUE with designers!!
Im a huge procrastinator, like im supposed to be working and im watching futur again
Jacob Campbell editing is life.
If i did rock climbing before work I'll be sleeping on my desk for the rest of the day lol

After watching this vid I got really motivated, want to become an art director one day. Thanks for the inspiration!❤

According to my opinion one of the most excellent editor is mathhew encina
I better become a morning person
that's early even for me.
Best art/creativity happens after 3am for me, the witching hour. I conjure up creativity like a wizard :D

ben is up next.

Awesome, I was wondering that too. Thanks for the podcast names. I have a long commute in the mornings and this will be refreshing.
It's 6:20 AM here .... I didn't wanna sleep anyway...... will make coffe and start watching. #WorkForKnowledge
This is so meta lol. This is when you clock out?

Still excited for another video from the main man himself.

the interview was nice very interesting ....being organize your time...and work as a team..great...
Code@Kwento no interview. Just talking to camera by himself.
I really enjoyed this video. Brilliant.☺
appreciate it.
Which drawing touch pad do you use??
Takes me at least half an hour to fall asleep, I don't understand how people can just turn themselves off at a designated HOUR:MINUTE time stamp lol.
when you work that long, it's easy to fall asleep. listen to your body. when you're tired, take a nap. or, go to sleep.
Seems fair. Will attempt.
More positive vibes with the future !!!
Great video! Thanks for sharing your day with us Matthew. Also, I'm watching The Office, it's nice to finish the day laughing. I hope we can see more videos like this in the future, from Chris too!
2:48 , i spotted Love live anime here :))
How in the world did you make the shot from 6:07 - 6:11? Looks fantastic!
High Shutterspeed
I want to see the day in the life of Chuy next!
MORE OF THESE!!!
Awesome thanks for sharing this.
what journal you were writing? can I see it's layout?
Thanks 😊
Awesome work flow

glad you like it.
it was interesting to see how you use your to-do list. do you write them in the order of priority? or chronologically?
This is pretty helpful.. Thanks for making this one ☺

More on the way.
I would love for you to make more videos on your channel
You're watching The Office, I love you!
Pretty much the same here. No other TV show leaves me feeling anything close to what Office makes me feel like.
You get to build a PC everyday? That's sounds sweet
Wich brand is this backpack / bag?
How much is important to know drawing (hand pen, paper or digitaly) to have a graphic design career?
The more solid skills you have to communicate your ideas, the better.
I'm glad that you're sleeping 2 hours more than me!
