  • Fiona professed her love for her BFF Charlie... even knowing that it can never work between them. It's a beautiful yet heart-wrenching scene that paints such a realistic, unsugarcoated reality of love ... Go Fiona!

It would have been lovely of course if they did end up together, but the fact that they didn't bring them together at the end really punches home the very real human experience of loving someone you know doesn't love you back. This scene wouldn't have been as memorable if they ended up together ya know? And the film wouldn't have been as great as it was, at least in my eyes anyway

@@bppmurphy I guess it's just cos i disliked the Charlie/Carrie content so much. I felt his friendship with Fiona would have been a much better basis for a romantic relationship than what we got. but that's also just personal preference and I love Kristin Scott Thomas and preferred the chemistry with her and Hugh Grant. But I get your point. Sometimes we fall in love and the object of our affection doesn't love us back or is in love with someone else. Still love the movie though.

It’s even more difficult when you mutually love each other but you realize that you are at peace and better off without them. With that said, you eventually learn to move on. I know because I went through it. It took a long time to heal and get over that ex-suitor, and in the end, I just focused on moving on. Eleven years later, I have since met another man who is now my husband. :)

That hurts... on deeper levels than what I'd care to detail.
Being in love with someone who adores you but will never, ever love you the same way you do is painful for both. The person suffering froom the infatuation will ache in places she or he didn't know existed.... and the one who is loved but doesn't feel the same will very likely feel a deep sense of guilt for hurting a friend, even when he or she doesn't mean to.
Love bites. Only a chosen few really do find their happily ever afters....

Try on the idea of being okay with wanting and desiring but not getting. Yes one wants it... And at the same time one is at peace with not having it.
Not getting what one truly desires builds character. Having one's deepest wants and desires fulfilled leads to complacency and even more desire and want for more and more.
Being desperate and needy is unattractive. It is a repelling force. Being truly at peace without receiving what one desires is actually attractive as well as counterintuitive.

Ugh this was relatable. I had a guy friend and I realized I loved him - why? I don't know. We're incompatiable but we somehow always manage to have fun together anyway. I told him one night and he rejected me but said we should stay friends... Just that it's never going to happen. We did stay friends... But not for long after that. He couldn't get over me admitting I had feelings for him even when I later claimed i'd just been silly and I met someone else just to prove to him I could be just friends. Shit sucks. Don't fall in love with a friend. I can't fully regret telling him though. It's the first and so far only time i've ever been so vunerable with someone... Many people never dare to admit their feelings and in the end it's for the best because it was an often toxic friendship because of how different we were regardless of how fun we could have together and how much we'd been through together.

It was at this point that I fell in love with Kristen Scott Thomas - and was faithful ever since.

Fiona looks so elegant and independent! I bet she's attracted to him only because he is always in love with someone else. A kind of challenge :)

Unrequited or not, love is love. No truer love than friends choosing each other. But that doesn't mean strangers falling in love is fake, inappropriate, manipulated or wrong. One's perspective of love is different from another's. To love a friend and consider them ur partner is no lesser than those who don't settle for anything less than love. True love. However, no purer love than a mother's or ur friend's.

this scene is beautifully poetic... and has always scared me............ as to how true it really rings......... its seems like a kind of "grass is always greener" metaphor but is it?... is it really?.... if you can see THAT grass... and are longing for THAT grass .... is it the greener" part you are even interested in... or the favorable humanity you see in some one else that doesn't yet see it in you...... so whats to be done but try to show that person.... but that never seems to work either........ its a timing thing... and a compatibility thing and a mutual thing..... that when you strip away the looks and the physical attractions if the HUMAN thing and respect is not there... it will almost certainly never last......... genuine admiration, mutual respect and a good sense of equal footing is what makes a relationship last... and if you find THAT..... HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE........... but if its anything less than that....... move on.... for both of your sakes just move on... ............ peace........ ✌😎

The room reminds me of GWTW, where Scarlett makes her similar confession of love to Ashley. The couch, especially. IN GWTW, that's where Rhett was hiding.

Great observation! This should have been Fiona's dialogue to Charles: "Why don't you say it, you coward? You're afraid to marry me. You'd rather live with that silly little fool Carrie who can't open her mouth except to say yes, no, and raise a passel of mealy-mouthed brats just like her!

Why would he want Carrie when Fiona wanted him? You really think Carrie would suddenly stop cheating when she is with Charles? She would get bored in a few months. Doubt the kid in the last pic was his.
