The healing mechanic makes even less sense when you consider that she is afflicted by scarlet rot which should be devouring her hp instead of giving her lifesteal. That's certainly not how it plays out for the tarnished.

@@KimeriX It’s debatable for Aldritch giving the fact that he’s busy eating a god when we fight him and for Sullyvan he’s not really a legend at this point. I mean we fight him mid-game so it doesn’t make hil look this strong. In the first versions of the game Sullyvan was the final boss. I wish they kept him as that 😨
At first I was like "dude she's gonna win 100% of the time because she heals every time she strikes him". And then I saw her get smacked for 10k damage and it made me feel... good.
Malenia has advantage over any other boss due to what she heals with her attacks, as it is a boss designed to be defeated by dodging or parrying and critical hit.

It seems very weird to have them start right on top of each other. That's just giving full advantage to Malenia... Should have spawned her at least halfway so Radahn can get a few ranged attacks off.

Malenia is about 80% consists of rot, she got synthetic arm and both legs, but it doesn't interfere her at all. I wonder what she could do, if she was healthy...
@@Do_You_Fear_Me Well Malenia and Radahn had their duel while both were in their primes, and Radahn pushed Malenia so far she had to use the Scarlet Rot Spirit Bomb attack. Remember that Radahn was widely known as the strongest warrior, and based on the item description of the Cleanrot Knight summon Malenia got so fucked up in that fight that she had to get carried away to safety, while Radahn stuck around and continued to fight for years.
Love how lore friendly it is, even if you had a prime version of Radahn and malenia at full power instead of not using her second phase, they wouldve beaten each other to a standstill. Amazing
Well you would have had to put into account radahn kind of killed himself. He beat malenia but he let her heal and put her prosthetic on again but he didnt heal. He was to kind to kill her because of her arm falling off. Thats the only reason she won.
@@katrina561 Radahn has no healing capablities, and giving her courtesy or not would not have changed the fight (which was supposed to be a cinematic shot anyways.) Not to mention if she had been hurt earlier or later the rot wouldve bloomed, rendering the fight over. Malenia's the one who gave Radahn scarlet rot in the trailer, so we're fighting a weaker version of him than she did in the lore. Because back then, they fought to a stalemate. That version of Radahn would be crazy to witness.
If you used the Radahn's Armor set and weapon just right, you can put Malenia into a stalemate just like how it goes back when both of those demigods fought.

I don't know why people shit on Malenia so much. Look at the size difference. This woman, blind and disabled, fought Radahn at his peak and they were equals. One could not best the other. It speaks volumes on the warrior that Malenia was. Not to mention how badass Radahn was, to keep up with her.
Malenia has the heal on hit going for her, but also in this fight in particular, Radahn's moveset in game is programmed to hit multiple combatants, Malenia is is programmed that way sort of but mainly around focusing on one combatant. Still an amazing video, keep it up my friend!
Malenia just tanks the meteor every time when she can easily dodge it... Also she is not really using her second phase as that would insta end the fight since Radahn is already low...

Centuries of being literally cursed and Radahn can still get a round on Malenia, even when she has to fuse Phases 1 and 2 together via modding. Radahn has to be one of the most impressive characters in any From title, and we literally never even see his peak -- he was maintaining his constant triumphant sealing of space itself even in the Shattering.
He has four times hp, Malenia doesn't have her actual phase 2 damage or health, and it still took a glitch for her to lose. Look at the end of the video, it shows what phase 2 Malenia does to him. He's impressive, but lore-wise, current Radahn loses to current Malenia every time.
In the second round (where she lost) her attack was bugged. She flew and just stayed in the air. I assume it was the clone attack that didn't work (no clones spawned) because of the fusion of those phases.

well when she was fighting him in the storyline it was an accident she couldn't control her rot powers till you fight her. Even then using lore when malenia was cursed with rot she possed by the real rot god. So when she becomes the rot goddess while you fight her its not actually her you fight, but the sealed away god of rot.

There's a short video of the lore where it shows radahn standing over her waiting for her to put her prosthetic back on which means he beat her. He was beating her again the second time so she purposefully impaled herself knowing it would release the rot which is what made caelid. Malenia was carried away and radahn still stayed behind and beat her armies.
@@apeer8999 It literally does though. Her 1st phase can be beaten without her even being able to attack! Yes, not landing an attack, initiating one period. I've done this before and I've seen other streamers do it as well. And her health pool is so low if you're aggressive enough you can defeat her in like 90secs (both phases). Aggression is her weakness. Can't say that about any other demi.

Make it so she can't heal from hitting summons, make it so she can't heal from blocked hits, make it so she only gets health from the insane combo if you want to go crazy with it. Its also worth noting that even in their original duel, both were holding back/being held back; Radahn was holding back the stars (and to a lesser degree, holding up Leonard), and Malenia was controlling the Scarlet Rot.
This is true. I still hypothesize that Radahn was, relatively, held back quite a bit more. And yet still considered the strongest.... Still, that title of being the strongest demigod didn't seem to factor in Malenia's Scarlet Rot, it seems. In a pure physical/magical fight, I believe Radahn would've probably won.

Could Radahn's stars also break it? Maybe. But he never did, so we'll never know. Rot Malenia vs Stars Radahn would be amazing to witness though. I think they'd both die if that happened.
let´s remember that this Radahn is a weaker version, it´s not Prime Radahn, as it is mentionen in his Intro, he is cursed with the Scarlet rot and became crazy. If we get a DLC, I would love we get a chance to fight Prime Radahn.
true, but the Malenia we encounter has lost most of her limbs to the scarlet rot. She was probably stronger and more determined in that day as well. Seeing previous bosses at their prime in their times of glory is unfortunately we never saw in any Souls game, due to it emphazing the decline and end of the world atmosphere. I'd rather go for new bosses (though they will need to expand the lore to offer us something as challenging as litteral demi-gods)

Rykard might mess her up since she won’t be able to use the Serpent Slayer, can’t go close to him without stepping on lava, plus the 2nd phase hail of skull meteors might just be a death sentence
@@threemeters1425 he most likely won't be able to outdamage her healing. Radahn has extremely high damaging attacks and attacks very fast and yet he was only able to outdamage her once out of the 3 times they fought. When she does her attack where she jumps into the air and does a whirlwind of slashes she heals back like a 3rd of her health. Her healing mechanic is busted and I can't think of a single boss that would be able to consistently defeat her other than maybe placidusax and malkiketh. Both are endgame bosses move around a lot in their 2nd phases and have high damaging attacks. But even then I doubt they can outdamage her, I'm surprised radahn was able to even do that once.
@@pastesir3025 Rykard has plenty of room for error since you need the Serpent Slayer to do acceptable damage to him. The lava might also cancel out Malenia’s healing since it’s constant and staggers you quite easily, and I suspect this will prevent her from attacking as much. Plus, the skull meteors deal tons of damage, and Rykard summons like a hundred of them without consequence. Malenia’s AI can’t dodge or run away from those.
This was such a good battle between the two. Makes total sense how they're both some of the hardest FromSoftware bosses and are pretty balanced against each other.
What's funny is that in context this shows just how much more powerful Radahn is. 1-He had to put Malenia close so the ranged attacks wouldn't tilt every match in favor of Radahn. 2-Radahn kept missing over and over because his moveset is made for fighting against multiple oponents simultaneously so he overswings when against only 1, smaller, close up oponent. If his moveset accounted for this being a duel he'd be doing three times the damage at least. Meanwhile, Malenia's moveset is made for duels so she had no such issue. 3-And even then, this is post-rot Radahn, an insane husk of his former self. So you can imagine how much more powerful he was during their duel. Goes to show why she used the nuke, she didn't even stand a chance against the dude. "Undefeated" my ass, were it not for her flagrant warcrimes/crimes against humanity she'd be toast.

Theyre not balanced against each other. Radahn is designed to tank multiple opponents. Malenia is designed for a 1v1 against a player who is good at dodging. The game mechanics favor malenia.
So...we are finally going to see how does it end in the real battle. In trailer we were shown one thing: Radahn being a lot more powerful, and almost defeats Malenia, but she uses a biological weapon as her final move; but here... I don't even know who's more powerful. In one hand: Malenia is the hardest boss in this game, with super healing and terrifying 2nd faze. In other hand: Radahn, with his huge damage, big health bar, and vast AoE attacks, and what's more important- he can stager her. That would be entertaining.
Not really. In the trailer malenia's wound was self-inflicted so that she can nuke radahn and turn him into a mindless husk. In that case, malenia was ultimately the victor since she got out relatively unscathed while radahn became a mindless beast
@@Knight_sa The description of Clean rot knight's ash in the game tells you that she was "almost dead" and unconscious after this fight, so one of her solders had to carry her from the battlefield on his back.
@@hecc7906 Hoarah Loux has no health compared to Malenia and his grabs aren't even going to work on the boss model. I'd say Placidusax with his teleports and insane damage, along with the Elden Beast because of spacing and spamming projectiles the boss AI isn't going to dodge is why they both have the highest chance of beating Malenia. There's no other demigod who can beat her simply because she heals so much from non dodging enemies. Rykard might stand a chance though, his projectiles and damage output are actually insane if you're not dodging.

It seems lore wise at least, if Gigachad Radahn fought Melania (pre blooming like in the trailer) and he decided to let go of the stars/target melania with them or on a similar notion with meteors she would have been destoryed

the most unfair bosses for bvb: 1. rykard (total hp around 200k, like cmon) 2. malenia(hp per hit, second phase godlike) 3. dragon lord (way too many attacks with way too much range and way too big of a hitbox)
Now we just need a large-scale battle with some Redmane Knights and Soldiers, and some Cleanrot Knights. Also, start the groups farther away so Radahn can use his bow.

Thats because malenia is designed for 1v1 while Radahn is built for group fights. Youre also supposed to dodge malenia so she cant heal, but radahn isnt programmed to do that. This just game mechanics.
@@dearestdoppio8554 Radahn's pure strengths are just basically crowd control and almost all of his attacks cover the an entire area so to speak. Malenia is literally designed for 1v1. Most of her attacks keep the pressure from the casual player who constantly heals everytime they take damage.
Eventhough us players found ways to cheese her, there’s something I gotta say. From watching this fight, I realized how ridiculously overpowered her design is. She has life leech plus she just sh*ts scarlet rot during her second phase as a get out of jail free card. It’s so unfair
She's a terribly designed boss. They did anything in their power to make her as hard as possible even if it made her completely unfair. The Orphan of Kos is an example of a well designed but still incredibly difficult boss. Malenia is an example of unfairly designed moves, infinite combos and lifesteal

Git gud and then you can tell me if she's fair. I've literally mastered the fight and there's not one aspect of the fight itself that's bullshit. You just need a lot of skill to understand it. Maybe that's why you're complaining about it :)

Don't forget that the horse has been suffering from the Scarlet Rot for centuries as well. That horse is a legend among all beings, not just among animals.
Rykard is techincally two bosses in one body. A god devouring serpent and Rykard himself. The serpent alone is probably powerful enough to defeat any of the other demigods. That's why you need that special spear to get passed the serpent's defenses and strike directly at Rykard.
Malenia would most likely beat rykard, I managed to kill Malenia (with help, I am not good enough to kill her alone) before I went to kill Rykard, i didn’t use the spear to kill him but I used Malenia’s great rune which grants lifesteal, I use Bloodhounds fang in my main hand and Morgotts cursed blade in my off hand, the lava doesn’t deal enough damage to be relevant in the fight when you have lifesteal, the snake can’t hit you when you are close enough and Rykards only move is to jump away repeatedly which wouldn’t work against Malenia. The skull power would be the only thing that may kill Malenia because of how much damage they deal and how many of them there are.
when you big their fight was in the lore, the fact that it comes as so even and so beautiful in gameplay as well is just amazing. Both are built to be overpowered and unachievable by normal means, yet no one can take the upper hand.

I love these comments. I study this games lore for fun and both sides of this coin are so passionate. Let’s clarify just a few things. Like nearly all bosses in this game neither of them are at their prime here and debatably Malenia was actually never in her prime. Let’s go into why. Her eyesight was taken by the scarlet rott which cursed her. Ate her body from the inside and her brother worked tirelessly to find a way and stall her rott. He succeeded in coming up with the prothesis with the aid of another family. She never got her eyesight back but she had one badass mentor and fell in love with his fighting style. That is where she learned the waterfowl technique (the mentors sword was engraved with symbols like flowing water, cool detail). She actually wanted to end the wars between demigods, not instigate them. Radahn on the other hand was idealizing Godfrey. From a young age he learned he would be a giant and studied magic at the Raya Lucaria institute to make sure his size wouldn’t kill his horse. Notably however, and no one knows truly why at least from any items/lore in the games, he used his magic to hold back the stars. He not only held them back but crushed them. “And thus did he crush them-his conquest sealing the very fate of the stars,” (starscourage heirloom). It’s of my opinion is he actually a good guy all around, with a point to prove by holding back the stars. He is actually holding fate in place. While he does this Ranni can’t ascend to being empyrean and it’s also of my opinion why Malenia and Radahn would fight in the first place. Both are valiant warriors. I gave the briefest of explanations here. However both are forced almost like chess pieces by the outer gods. Malenia being tormented at birth with a horrible illness that ate most of her body. Radahn being used wether conscious or unconsciously by the Greater Will in his conquest to power. He sealed his allegiances to the warrior his idealized, who follows the golden order. In terms of raw ability, both show immense and unmistakable skill. Radahn has power while Malenia has speed. That argument could go on for days lol. However Radahns inhibition in the war between the two was self imposed. Malenias was not. Those are just facts as we know from lore. We know however at the states they fought in the battle was a complete and total draw and a complete and total loss for both of them at the same time. True neither was defeated but both lost many of their soldiers. One lost their mind and the other was put into a deep slumber. If you take them both in their prime, It’s of my opinion the war would have came down to luck and battle conditions (as a lot of wars actually tend to end in history.) So keep loving who you love but know neither of them are at their pinnacle. If they both were, dear lord who knows how badass of a fight that really would have been.
Aaand to the surprise of absolutely no one, Melania stomps. She only lost that one round because she bugged out at the end for some reason. Really tho, unless Melania's heal is nerfed or straight up turned off any fight that involves her are going to get predictable and boring real fast.

The only round Malenia lost was the one where she couldn't take full advantage of the healing provided by landing Waterfowl Dance. Just like when we fight her, that BS move is 90% of what makes the fight hard lmao
Seeing Radahn as one of the very early boss, I was gonna say, how in the hell he won a round, then I saw explanation. He has 4x more health. I am glad you did this, cuz this fight depicted perfectly the lore, the tie is broken by Scarlet Rot. Now we know what Radahn was like when he was in his prime, he had 4x more health :D
Not even close, x4 HP and nerfed Malenia without phase 2, at this point i'm pretty sure she can wreck every boss unless there is some weird gimmick involved. Surprised from the big meteor damage in phase change, it'll definitely be a game changer in future encounters against other bosses
she didn't have access to her phase 2 form at the time when she fought Radahn, wich this try to re-create. In the opposite case, she would indeed wash the floor with just about any boss.

_Breaking News!_ Earlier today, the greatest general in the lands between, General Radahn, was bullied to death by a funsized crippled girl with a rot fetish. More updates as we get them.
Just as I figured, Malenia bullshits her way to victory with her AIDS lifesteal, but if not for that Radahn would have bulldozed her 3-0. His attacks hurt a ton and their range/tracking is too strong for her to evade. He left openings for her to leech her health back and that sealed it. Still, being able to chunk a good portion of her hp in phase 2 made a big difference and his magic attacks dealt massive damage. He never used that absolutely insane jumping tornado attack that basically oneshots you, and it could have really turned the tide. If he just used his magic attacks more often he would have probably been able to win the last round as well. Basically, he was mightier but she haxed her way to victory...again!

@@sunlesssirris I beat her, but that doesn't make her lifesteal any less bullshit. It's not so much that she heals, that's not a first for the series, it's that she heals on every attack, even if it inflicts no damage, paired with attacking multiple times a second in rapid flurries. The requirement of always being able to dodge/parry or simply out dps her heals limits your options greatly, large weapons I was specced for are worthless here. If you're fine with exclusively playing double seppuku bloodtanas/hoarfrost spam to burn her hp down without being weighed down, sure, great boss, but I didn't find her at all fun to play against. Also, her mega ultra hyper omega sin harvest wannabe Sephiroth weeb attack of doom is the dumbest thing ever in a souls game, period.

Also, it's an early mid boss vs endgame, of course the conversation is about their strength at equal hp based on their moves and abilities, not who would win raw stats wise, since obviously the later game boss will always win.
I've argued this since learning more about the lore of the game and especially diving into the specific lore of these two characters. Malenia and Radahn were evenly matched in skill and held their own trump cards, between the gravity magic and spells from Radahn and the Rot and Malenia's ability to heal. My biggest gripe while learning about the two characters is that Malenia is so overshadowed as a character by Radahn simply because people have pity for his horse and the relationship between the two. People hear about Radahn and his story and immediately pain Malenia as the villain and make her their most hated character. Honestly that's sad considering the lore I'd say she is the most relatable and compassionate of the demigods other than her brother Miquella. She wasn't fighting in the shattering to become Elden Lord just for the power her main goal was that with the power of the Elden Ring she could cure herself and her brother from their curses. Not only that but given the fact that almost all the other demigods were in it purely for power and nothing else really shows that she and her brother were truly exceptional as Demigods and Empyrians.
She lost an arm and had to go into hiding to heal after giving Radahn and everyone else cancer. He rocked her shit while literally holding up the stars as well, something he still does after going insane

Another problem people dont get is that Radahn isn't always actively holding back the stars as in literally focusing his mind and power into it. He casted a spell and as long as his life force is active the spell is active but he obviously can't maintain focus on holding the spells because well..... he's a wondering insane cannibal now that fights and kills even his friends. The idea that he is at a disadvantage because of the spells he casted at one point is false.

Malenia is alive, not crazy, not eating people, and is very much at her full power when you fight her. Radahn is like because he has a sad story with a horse. Simple as that. Radahn lost a battle doesn't matter how because there are no rules in a war like the shattering. Chock it up to an L. I'm not saying he's weak or a bad character but he is most definitely pitied by the fan base and Malenia is most definitely over looked for what her character actually is in the story.
This, from a lore perspective, probably isn’t a fair fight. Radahn during this fight: 1. Has no feet and *must* ride Leonard 2. Is insane 3. Is holding back the stars Whereas Malenia only seems to become stronger the more and more she ‘blooms’. Might be one of the only bosses in the series you fight that’s actually the stronger version of the one from lore.

@@matheuscruz8574 Healing from hits on a 100% physical reduction shield doesn't seem right. But her phase 1 would probably be a cakewalk if that wasn't the case.
The healing mechanic makes even less sense when you consider that she is afflicted by scarlet rot which should be devouring her hp instead of giving her lifesteal. That's certainly not how it plays out for the tarnished.

Malenia has advantage over any other boss due to what she heals with her attacks, as it is a boss designed to be defeated by dodging or parrying and critical hit.

Malenia is about 80% consists of rot, she got synthetic arm and both legs, but it doesn't interfere her at all. I wonder what she could do, if she was healthy...

@@Do_You_Fear_Me Well Malenia and Radahn had their duel while both were in their primes, and Radahn pushed Malenia so far she had to use the Scarlet Rot Spirit Bomb attack. Remember that Radahn was widely known as the strongest warrior, and based on the item description of the Cleanrot Knight summon Malenia got so fucked up in that fight that she had to get carried away to safety, while Radahn stuck around and continued to fight for years.

Well you would have had to put into account radahn kind of killed himself. He beat malenia but he let her heal and put her prosthetic on again but he didnt heal. He was to kind to kill her because of her arm falling off. Thats the only reason she won.
@@katrina561 Radahn has no healing capablities, and giving her courtesy or not would not have changed the fight (which was supposed to be a cinematic shot anyways.) Not to mention if she had been hurt earlier or later the rot wouldve bloomed, rendering the fight over. Aside from that the malenia we fight is still at her almost-prime, and she blooms once more to fight us, so it feels fair that the in-game fight is way harder than us beating up a senile radahn with all our pals to help us. In game, they are not equally matched anymore, they used to be in the lore during the shattering, but if the weakened radahn now fought malenia idk if he'd be in the same capabilities. She at least has her wits intact, mostly

The boss duels are finally starting. Every moment of this game I have passively wanted to witness a fight between these two.

Malenia's the one who gave Radahn scarlet rot in the trailer, so we're fighting a weaker version of him than she did in the lore. Because back then, they fought to a stalemate. That version of Radahn would be crazy to witness.
If you used the Radahn's Armor set and weapon just right, you can put Malenia into a stalemate just like how it goes back when both of those demigods fought.
Even then, he was holding back just to make the fight honorable
It was very satisfying beating Malenia with Radahn's Starscourge greatswords. It was a hell of a challenge, though!

Malenia has the heal on hit going for her, but also in this fight in particular, Radahn's moveset in game is programmed to hit multiple combatants, Malenia is is programmed that way sort of but mainly around focusing on one combatant. Still an amazing video, keep it up my friend!

This is awesome. I’ve wanted to see this from a lore perspective but I’d also love to watch Malenia vs Maliketh based on there movements, I think it would be interesting
Centuries of being literally cursed and Radahn can still get a round on Malenia, even when she has to fuse Phases 1 and 2 together via modding. Radahn has to be one of the most impressive characters in any From title, and we literally never even see his peak -- he was maintaining his constant triumphant sealing of space itself even in the Shattering.
He has four times hp, Malenia doesn't have her actual phase 2 damage or health, and it still took a glitch for her to lose. Look at the end of the video, it shows what phase 2 Malenia does to him. He's impressive, but lore-wise, current Radahn loses to current Malenia every time.
In the second round (where she lost) her attack was bugged. She flew and just stayed in the air. I assume it was the clone attack that didn't work (no clones spawned) because of the fusion of those phases.

well when she was fighting him in the storyline it was an accident she couldn't control her rot powers till you fight her. Even then using lore when malenia was cursed with rot she possed by the real rot god. So when she becomes the rot goddess while you fight her its not actually her you fight, but the sealed away god of rot.

There's a short video of the lore where it shows radahn standing over her waiting for her to put her prosthetic back on which means he beat her. He was beating her again the second time so she purposefully impaled herself knowing it would release the rot which is what made caelid. Malenia was carried away and radahn still stayed behind and beat her armies.

Well many of her second phase attack didn't work as intend. And besides she has been shown to actively dodge most ranged attacks when it's one on one.
Those rocks only come off when you're out of range of his melee attacks.

I've done this before and I've seen other streamers do it as well. And her health pool is so low if you're aggressive enough you can defeat her in like 90secs (both phases). Aggression is her weakness. Can't say that about any other demi.

Its also worth noting that even in their original duel, both were holding back/being held back; Radahn was holding back the stars (and to a lesser degree, holding up Leonard), and Malenia was controlling the Scarlet Rot.

Seeing previous bosses at their prime in their times of glory is unfortunately we never saw in any Souls game, due to it emphazing the decline and end of the world atmosphere. I'd rather go for new bosses (though they will need to expand the lore to offer us something as challenging as litteral demi-gods)

Radahn has extremely high damaging attacks and attacks very fast and yet he was only able to outdamage her once out of the 3 times they fought. When she does her attack where she jumps into the air and does a whirlwind of slashes she heals back like a 3rd of her health. Her healing mechanic is busted and I can't think of a single boss that would be able to consistently defeat her other than maybe placidusax and malkiketh. Both are endgame bosses move around a lot in their 2nd phases and have high damaging attacks. But even then I doubt they can outdamage her, I'm surprised radahn was able to even do that once.
@@pastesir3025 Rykard has plenty of room for error since you need the Serpent Slayer to do acceptable damage to him. The lava might also cancel out Malenia’s healing since it’s constant and staggers you quite easily, and I suspect this will prevent her from attacking as much. Plus, the skull meteors deal tons of damage, and Rykard summons like a hundred of them without consequence. Malenia’s AI can’t dodge or run away from those.

This was such a good battle between the two.
Makes total sense how they're both some of the hardest FromSoftware bosses and are pretty balanced against each other.
What's funny is that in context this shows just how much more powerful Radahn is.
1-He had to put Malenia close so the ranged attacks wouldn't tilt every match in favor of Radahn.
2-Radahn kept missing over and over because his moveset is made for fighting against multiple oponents simultaneously so he overswings when against only 1, smaller, close up oponent. If his moveset accounted for this being a duel he'd be doing three times the damage at least. Meanwhile, Malenia's moveset is made for duels so she had no such issue.
3-And even then, this is post-rot Radahn, an insane husk of his former self. So you can imagine how much more powerful he was during their duel.
Goes to show why she used the nuke, she didn't even stand a chance against the dude. "Undefeated" my ass, were it not for her flagrant warcrimes/crimes against humanity she'd be toast.

Theyre not balanced against each other. Radahn is designed to tank multiple opponents. Malenia is designed for a 1v1 against a player who is good at dodging. The game mechanics favor malenia.

You can also get a sword that can heal you too in-game but it has a low reach however.

In trailer we were shown one thing: Radahn being a lot more powerful, and almost defeats Malenia, but she uses a biological weapon as her final move; but here... I don't even know who's more powerful. In one hand: Malenia is the hardest boss in this game, with super healing and terrifying 2nd faze. In other hand: Radahn, with his huge damage, big health bar, and vast AoE attacks, and what's more important- he can stager her. That would be entertaining.
Not really. In the trailer malenia's wound was self-inflicted so that she can nuke radahn and turn him into a mindless husk. In that case, malenia was ultimately the victor since she got out relatively unscathed while radahn became a mindless beast

@@hecc7906 Hoarah Loux has no health compared to Malenia and his grabs aren't even going to work on the boss model. I'd say Placidusax with his teleports and insane damage, along with the Elden Beast because of spacing and spamming projectiles the boss AI isn't going to dodge is why they both have the highest chance of beating Malenia. There's no other demigod who can beat her simply because she heals so much from non dodging enemies.
Rykard might stand a chance though, his projectiles and damage output are actually insane if you're not dodging.

Radahn's pure strengths are just basically crowd control and almost all of his attacks cover the an entire area so to speak.
Malenia is literally designed for 1v1. Most of her attacks keep the pressure from the casual player who constantly heals everytime they take damage.
Eventhough us players found ways to cheese her, there’s something I gotta say. From watching this fight, I realized how ridiculously overpowered her design is. She has life leech plus she just sh*ts scarlet rot during her second phase as a get out of jail free card. It’s so unfair
She's a terribly designed boss. They did anything in their power to make her as hard as possible even if it made her completely unfair. The Orphan of Kos is an example of a well designed but still incredibly difficult boss. Malenia is an example of unfairly designed moves, infinite combos and lifesteal

Rykard is techincally two bosses in one body. A god devouring serpent and Rykard himself. The serpent alone is probably powerful enough to defeat any of the other demigods. That's why you need that special spear to get passed the serpent's defenses and strike directly at Rykard.

Malenia would most likely beat rykard, I managed to kill Malenia (with help, I am not good enough to kill her alone) before I went to kill Rykard, i didn’t use the spear to kill him but I used Malenia’s great rune which grants lifesteal, I use Bloodhounds fang in my main hand and Morgotts cursed blade in my off hand, the lava doesn’t deal enough damage to be relevant in the fight when you have lifesteal, the snake can’t hit you when you are close enough and Rykards only move is to jump away repeatedly which wouldn’t work against Malenia. The skull power would be the only thing that may kill Malenia because of how much damage they deal and how many of them there are.

I love these comments. I study this games lore for fun and both sides of this coin are so passionate. Let’s clarify just a few things. Like nearly all bosses in this game neither of them are at their prime here and debatably Malenia was actually never in her prime. Let’s go into why.
Her eyesight was taken by the scarlet rott which cursed her. Ate her body from the inside and her brother worked tirelessly to find a way and stall her rott. He succeeded in coming up with the prothesis with the aid of another family. She never got her eyesight back but she had one badass mentor and fell in love with his fighting style. That is where she learned the waterfowl technique (the mentors sword was engraved with symbols like flowing water, cool detail). She actually wanted to end the wars between demigods, not instigate them.
Radahn on the other hand was idealizing Godfrey. From a young age he learned he would be a giant and studied magic at the Raya Lucaria institute to make sure his size wouldn’t kill his horse. Notably however, and no one knows truly why at least from any items/lore in the games, he used his magic to hold back the stars. He not only held them back but crushed them. “And thus did he crush them-his conquest sealing the very fate of the stars,” (starscourage heirloom). It’s of my opinion is he actually a good guy all around, with a point to prove by holding back the stars. He is actually holding fate in place. While he does this Ranni can’t ascend to being empyrean and it’s also of my opinion why Malenia and Radahn would fight in the first place.
Both are valiant warriors. I gave the briefest of explanations here. However both are forced almost like chess pieces by the outer gods. Malenia being tormented at birth with a horrible illness that ate most of her body. Radahn being used wether conscious or unconsciously by the Greater Will in his conquest to power. He sealed his allegiances to the warrior his idealized, who follows the golden order.
In terms of raw ability, both show immense and unmistakable skill. Radahn has power while Malenia has speed. That argument could go on for days lol. However Radahns inhibition in the war between the two was self imposed. Malenias was not. Those are just facts as we know from lore. We know however at the states they fought in the battle was a complete and total draw and a complete and total loss for both of them at the same time. True neither was defeated but both lost many of their soldiers. One lost their mind and the other was put into a deep slumber.
If you take them both in their prime, It’s of my opinion the war would have came down to luck and battle conditions (as a lot of wars actually tend to end in history.)
So keep loving who you love but know neither of them are at their pinnacle. If they both were, dear lord who knows how badass of a fight that really would have been.

Not even close, x4 HP and nerfed Malenia without phase 2, at this point i'm pretty sure she can wreck every boss unless there is some weird gimmick involved. Surprised from the big meteor damage in phase change, it'll definitely be a game changer in future encounters against other bosses
she didn't have access to her phase 2 form at the time when she fought Radahn, wich this try to re-create. In the opposite case, she would indeed wash the floor with just about any boss.

Just as I figured, Malenia bullshits her way to victory with her AIDS lifesteal, but if not for that Radahn would have bulldozed her 3-0. His attacks hurt a ton and their range/tracking is too strong for her to evade. He left openings for her to leech her health back and that sealed it.
Still, being able to chunk a good portion of her hp in phase 2 made a big difference and his magic attacks dealt massive damage. He never used that absolutely insane jumping tornado attack that basically oneshots you, and it could have really turned the tide.
If he just used his magic attacks more often he would have probably been able to win the last round as well. Basically, he was mightier but she haxed her way to victory...again!

It's not so much that she heals, that's not a first for the series, it's that she heals on every attack, even if it inflicts no damage, paired with attacking multiple times a second in rapid flurries.
The requirement of always being able to dodge/parry or simply out dps her heals limits your options greatly, large weapons I was specced for are worthless here.
If you're fine with exclusively playing double seppuku bloodtanas/hoarfrost spam to burn her hp down without being weighed down, sure, great boss, but I didn't find her at all fun to play against.
Also, her mega ultra hyper omega sin harvest wannabe Sephiroth weeb attack of doom is the dumbest thing ever in a souls game, period.

Also, it's an early mid boss vs endgame, of course the conversation is about their strength at equal hp based on their moves and abilities, not who would win raw stats wise, since obviously the later game boss will always win.
First time I battled Malenia, I went through the mist, looked down at my phone, looked up and I was already dead.
I've seen a couple people say this and it's kinda surprising, her first phase is usually pretty passive for me until I engage her for the first time
I've argued this since learning more about the lore of the game and especially diving into the specific lore of these two characters. Malenia and Radahn were evenly matched in skill and held their own trump cards, between the gravity magic and spells from Radahn and the Rot and Malenia's ability to heal. My biggest gripe while learning about the two characters is that Malenia is so overshadowed as a character by Radahn simply because people have pity for his horse and the relationship between the two. People hear about Radahn and his story and immediately pain Malenia as the villain and make her their most hated character. Honestly that's sad considering the lore I'd say she is the most relatable and compassionate of the demigods other than her brother Miquella. She wasn't fighting in the shattering to become Elden Lord just for the power her main goal was that with the power of the Elden Ring she could cure herself and her brother from their curses. Not only that but given the fact that almost all the other demigods were in it purely for power and nothing else really shows that she and her brother were truly exceptional as Demigods and Empyrians.
She lost an arm and had to go into hiding to heal after giving Radahn and everyone else cancer. He rocked her shit while literally holding up the stars as well, something he still does after going insane

Another problem people dont get is that Radahn isn't always actively holding back the stars as in literally focusing his mind and power into it. He casted a spell and as long as his life force is active the spell is active but he obviously can't maintain focus on holding the spells because well..... he's a wondering insane cannibal now that fights and kills even his friends. The idea that he is at a disadvantage because of the spells he casted at one point is false.

I'm not saying he's weak or a bad character but he is most definitely pitied by the fan base and Malenia is most definitely over looked for what her character actually is in the story.
