my heart breaks for jonathan, who only knew neglect and abuse until his life was ended by his own brother. jonathan deserved so much better than the family he was given
yeah same. if it was gonna be a quick extinction, like an asteroid hitting or something that would happen in a moment, I'd grab my boys and my husband and hold them until we went out. if it was a long, drawn-out, potentially painful end i would pull a "mist" on all of us- just make sure i wasn't one round short like that dad. I'm not nearly fit, smart, or clever enough to survive an apocalypse and i can admit that lol
I'm terribly blind, an astigmatism in both eyes. Can't see anything that's not right in front of my face. I'd like to think that I'd give it a good shot but once I lose/break my glasses just eat me, I'm useless
Can you imagine being a female during a complete apocalypse? Oh. My. Gosh. Life without feminine hygiene supplies would be repulsive. That natural stuff don't work well enough for all women. 😂🤢🤮
21:50 "trying to simulate this violent, dystopian future where their lives were constantly at stake" 😭😭 the irony that they were in fact already living a violent dystopian future with their lives constantly at stake, cause who the hell shoots live rounds at their children?! and to rope them into this crazy ass prepper mindset, oh these poor kids
as a therapist whose specialized area is working with juvenile offenders/teens with significant trauma... this case HURTS! I had two main takeaways that I really wanted to comment on: 1) after working in child welfare for 8 years, it kills me how broken the system is just because I don't think the system is funded adequately enough to actually create lasting change, especially for teens - most of them end up in group homes due to lack of foster parents, and without family support so many just fall through the cracks. the juvenile offender system is the same - SO INADEQUATELY FUNDED that these kids don't get the help they need! 2) the brain is so complex that honestly I can absolutely understand Eldon's treatment of his brother - with so much significant trauma at a young age the brain basically stops developing correctly when it experiences trauma, and effectively it sounds like he really stopped mentally developing around age 4/5. his 'doing what's best for me' attitude and lack of emotions towards his brother are so typical for that age and so is his reasoning for believing that his brother made his life significantly worse. honestly, it sounds like he went into fight or flight mode when his dad was firing the guns and in that state he literally could not think about right/wrong and was probably so hopped up on adrenaline/fear/anger - coupled with his emotional age of a young kid - the whole scene was a disaster waiting to happen. there are also studies that show that SSRIs can have severe side effects the younger they are prescribed so I would imagine that any homicidal ideation he had could have been intensified. I hope he can get the mental health treatment he needs while he's in prison to give him a shot at having a life again. WHEW - great case guys!
Great post! I thought you might want an update. I saw Eldon's interrogation video 6 months ago. It had me so sad and pissed off that I researched all I could. Eldon was let down on so many levels, it's almost unbelievable. I decided to reach out to him and do everything I could to make his life a little better. I was fully expecting a completely broken and angry young man, but he is quite the opposite. He's very well adjusted (especially consider all the Hell he has been through), well spoken and polite. We don't talk about that night or his past very often as I only want to support him and get him to see that he is a good person... which I truly believe he is. We email daily and he is fun to talk to. I won't share any of his personal details, but outside of the crap he had to endure, he's a regular 25 year old guy. It's a shame his parents failed him miserably (for obvious reasons) because I would bet he has a rather high IQ. Anyway, to give you an update, he does get to see a psychiatrist and has started working out and says he feels healthier than ever. I have plans to be there for him if/when he gets paroled as well so he can get the fresh start that he deserves without having to live in squalor again. You really should consider writing him a letter of support. He told me he went 4 years without any mail. And here his mom cried on the stand and said she would "never give up on Eldon". It really raises his spirits to get mail and know that there are good people out there who understand and care about him. It only takes 10 minutes and a stamp, but means the world to him. :)
I think this is a prime example of how your surroundings can shape you and your mind. I don’t believe Eldin would have done those horrible things or been that mentally ill if he would have had a different family/home life.
I don't think he hated his brother at all. The fact that he refused for a long time to even talk about killing him tells me that. He doesn't want to relive what he did. This poor boy was just so messed up by abuse and the drugs he was being pumped full of. He was let down by literally every single person in his life, from his parents all the way up to the school officials who ignored all of the obvious signs that he needed someone to come in and save him.
@@essencesims4773 he was a 14 year old boy, who had an underdeveloped brain that was made even worse after years of abuse, brainwashing, and being pumped full of drugs. Should he be locked away from society for what he did? Yes, of course, but we SHOULD care how he feels because if we know what made him this way we can stop stuff like this from happening in the future.
@@jwats9184 I agree with everything you have said except for him being locked away. Eldon had zero control of his upbringing end ended up living his first 14 year under constant abuse, neglect and madness. Only to spend the rest of his life in prison? God did not put someone on this earth to never know love or happiness. I email Eldon daily and he is a very well spoken, well adjusted and polite young man. I pray he will be paroled the first chance he gets. He will have some good peaceful living to do, and he deserves it in my book.
This is one of the times I genuinely feel really bad for the murderer. It wasn't a cold and calculated thing he did its a sad freaking story and that interview he sounded like such a sad scared kid. Damn it! I just wish he left his brother out of it if he just hadn't did that I would of agreed with him only doin a few years.
Most of the time, when a murderer was abused in childhood, we say, "But lots of people have horrible childhoods and they don't grow up into murderers. It's not an excuse." And that's true enough. But this poor kiddo was trained in violence from early childhood and brainwashed into believing that his father's delusion was reality. He also seems to have been isolated except for school, so unless he was sitting in a classroom during school hours, he was immersed in his father's delusion. Also, it should be illegal in every state to question a minor without an attorney present. Even if the minor refuses to speak with the attorney or take any advice, there should be a third party to supervise and call out any inappropriate or illegal police tactics. Even if the minor's parents are present and competent, attorney presence should still be mandatory. So yeah this kid should've been sentenced to a safe environment; psychiatric care; and consistent, trustworthy adult caregivers.
What drives me nuts is for many policy departments dealing with an officer involved shooting, they encourage the officer involved to have hours to collect themselves and get at least one sleep cycle before any questioning about the shooting happens. But they cant give that to people accused of a crime. Lets level the playing field.
How wrong you are. People don’t go directly into being interviewed right away. You all act like you do this for a living. You are completely and utterly wrong.
@creekbird_homestead mmm first hand experience I had to go in as soon the detectives left the crime scene, definitely didn't get too long to process. Don't even remember half of the interviews cause I went in at like 12 and got out at 7 am right after witnessing a murder and definitely still being in shock.
@@creekbird_homestead No, you are WRONG. Eldon did. Did you not watch the video?? In fact, he was interviewed immediately and as a minor with no parent or adult present. This country needs justice reform, especially when involving minors. Eldon believed that zombies are real, but the system deemed him mentally capable of waiving his Miranda rights. Pathetic.
Eldon deserved so much more help than he was given. From being with his parents to being charged with murder. They took advantage of him. I also feel bad for Johnathan. He was treated so terribly
This poor kid. He’s been fed so much violence, fear, and paranoia his entire life and then was abandoned by his parents and the system. What a tragic case all around 😢
I do think that some times when you are abused at young age, you learn not to show emotion and disassociate as a way of protecting yourself. Internalizing everything. He didn't have a chance from the get go and I think CPS failed. Not that excuses what he did which was horrible, but I think if the got help at young age it could have been avoided.
You're correct about that, and some blame themselves instead of others but I think it's more common for the opposite to be true.. sometimes if the abuse is early enough it doesn't matter if cps gets to the kid, they will always be different and likely won't be able to handle normal levels of stress in life
I just want to say the empathy y’all show really is amazing and refreshing. My best friend was arrested at 15 in Ga, and it’s been nearly 30 years and she’s still incarcerated. Ga has some really awful statistics regarding criminal justice, the laws are insane. It is antiquated. Yes, people must be accountable but there’s room for mercy. And with our modern understanding of emotional regulation, how people grow, and brain development, we do need better options for children.
@@Smokinduckz um, you do understand that you can get a life sentence (especially in Ga) for a variety of crimes. Including drug trafficking. I’m sure all the pothead victims that bought weed from her grown ass boyfriend 30 years ago are suffering incredibly now. 🙄
@@jessicacates9355 um, This is a video about a killer, do you understand why I would make that assumption about your friend? Lol I agree tho! Free the homie
@@Smokinduckz yes sir, I can understand that, which is why I chose to elaborate instead or retaliate. Ga has a very very antiquated system. I’ve had two personal friends have their life sentences overturned in the past 2 years, after evidence of their innocence came out. That won’t give them back those decades. And especially black people in Ga have a really inflated rate of wrong convictions. I work in social justice now…and it really opens your eyes to how so many things can be avoided, and how bad things are. You gotta remember the war on drugs was 30 years ago…I think we forget that when we discuss life sentences and etc. there are still a lot of people in America with life sentences for first time drug convictions.
As the mother of a special needs child this upsets me. First, no child under 18 should ever be questioned by police without a parent or guardian. And him spending 70 days in solitary I would call cruel and unusual punishment. Yes he needs to pay for what he did, but everything that happened to him was wrong
I don’t think anyone ever gave Eldon a chance not to end up in the prison system. The police were totally against him w/o a thought to any nuance in the case. Also CPS and the school should have stepped in way sooner and taken Eldon and Jonathan to somewhere safe
@cooldolphiin It's called DUE PROCESS. This was a MINOR CHILD who was denied access to a LAWYER to which everyone has a RIGHT. Moreover, this was a child who killed his ABUSER after being subjected to YEARS of abuse and neglect. His killing his father was self-defense. Moreover, his pattern of walking in circles while talking to himself points to possible mitigating factors like possible mental illness. It's obvious you have ZERO understanding of American law.
@@Smokinduckzno one is excusing his behavior Lots of children get abused and drug addicted and don’t murder anyone let alone family but there has always been an argument in science between nature and nurture some people are literally raised and broken to be evil people just like some people are born that way And I have a feeling he might one who was raised to fail
@@Smokinduckz Because we have a brain. If you think he would have been a murderer had he been raised outside of that hellish surrounding, than you are dumber than your post.
Eldon’s father was also abusive to his first three children and never paid child support. He finally had custody taken away from him because of abuse and the mother was granted full custody. It’s sad that he was such a charmer that nobody wanted to arrest him. He wasn’t even arrested when he abused his first wife.
Austin is amazing, every comment he makes is so pertinent and smart ! ❤ Josh you are also amazing 😉 I'm really loving this dynamic. Keep it up, boys! You rock!!
As non-American it is very hard for me to understand your stance on "guns are okay at such a young age but knifes aren't".... Personally, I think, neither should be in the hand of a child and they shouldn't learn to use these kind of things, until they are at an age where they can really understand the implications, consequences of and reasons for the use of a weapon :o
To be good with anything a person needs to be trained at a young age. Knives and fire arms are tools. When used properly they are not dangerous. Cars kill more people than guns every day but we let kids drive and most people drive around with their heads up their asses. What's the difference?
A lot of us at least those that live out of cities in America were trained on gun safety and handling from a young age. Knives are way more personal imo and have a more disturbing execution
I highly recommend Explore With Us! They show entire interrogation interviews and have professionals breakdown every twitch and cough. Truly fascinating channel
If you’re going to own guns with children in the home then you want to start teaching them gun safety at a young age. I personally started around 5 with a bb gun and then a pellet gun and was slowly introduced to real firearms as I got older. I thought I shot a .22 for the first time when I was about 8 and didn’t shoot anything bigger than that until I was 10 or so. And I personally don’t think having a knife at 10 is red flag, but teaching hand to hand knife combat and self defense with a knife is. I had small pocket knifes at around 5 or 6 but teaching a kid how to stab the brain of a zombie at 10 is alarming in my opinion. Despite having little pocket knives or bb guns at a younger age, the safety and proper use of those things was always being reinforced, not the violent aspects of how to use them against people, zombie or otherwise. Violence against any living creature was always discouraged and taught against, and my dad always told me if I ever used a weapon to harm an animal that I’d be required to kill and eat it as well since that’s what hunting is, and we don’t kill any animals that we aren’t going to eat. So I would say it’s not the guns or knives that are the red flag, it’s the fact that he was teaching them to use them for violence against human surrogates at such a young age. The only time violence against another human is okay in my opinion is in defense of yourself or others, but teaching that to kids need to be done over time as well as they get to ages where they can understand the consequences of such things. And you definitely don’t start teaching with weapons for those purposes at such a young age, regardless of whether it’s guns or knives or anything else. I hope I’ve explained this in a way that properly gets my view across. And I hope you all are well, and I wish you all the best!
Poor Eldon and his brother Jonathan…. police get involved after the worst happened, who was there while they were both being abused? Why didn’t the school get involved when they saw clear signs? Teachers and nurses are mandated reporters and if I saw a child with rotten teeth and poor hygiene I would report it.. think how their lives would be different if only one person who saw how they were living spoke up. He was forced to urinate on his mother? Where were the police then? Then finally at 14 years old he snapped. After dealing with abuse and violence for 14 years, not only to himself but his mother too, he snapped. How could something like this go on for so many years? The system is so messed up and these boys both deserved better.
Very well said. And the cop who interrogated him was Eldon's school officer the year before. He had that gall to joke about when Eldon brought real handcuffs to school while trying to get him to incriminate himself. Are you kidding me?? A clearly malnourished and distressed kid brings handcuffs to school and the cop chooses NOT to go to his home and talk to his parents?? That part keeps me up at night. He could have easily saved both Eldon and his brother's lives.
I like that you guys actually talk about how they felt or what could’ve happened for them to act the way they act. Not just focusing on what they did and solely that. You explore the human condition.
As an addict who is now over 9 years clean from Opiates and other drugs like Benzos, muscle relaxers, etc - I can attest to being absolutely blackout gone and when I would mix Xanax and oxycodone - I would just miss GAPS of time - hours, days sometimes and believe I was all there the whole time - but when I would be told that I was slumped up against a wall dragging my head when my memory was being happy, smiley and cheerful - I knew there was a serious issue. I do not miss those days and would never go back. It’s a non stop quest…Eldin Jr completely failed his family but it’s a shame Eldin Sr didn’t do more to help his grandsons - every adult in those two boys lives failed them and all they both knew was horror terror and abuse. I bet Eldin did not understand what he truly did bc of how he was raised…regardless of how he was in the interrogation - his whole life was absolute terror
When covid hit and I dived deep into conspiracy theories I was contemplating preparing my children on some level for the worse... thank god I came to my senses and realised children need to be as sheltered from the worlds problems and evil as much as possible. They're not to be wrapped in cotton wool. But all children deserve and should be entitled to a childhood of innocence and free from fear
Here's the thing, I was exposed to violent media at a young age, was raised around guns, etc. But every adult in my family took many chances to teach right and right, not to hurt others, safety around anything that could be a weapon - be it an actual weapon or just something that could hurt because it was heavy or sharp. When that kid is being taught how to use it, expecting to use it against other humans and all that, no one was teaching him those differences. Exposure at a young age doesn't have to be bad but it takes work from the adults to make sure. He was failed on so many levels by so many adults. His sister was right, he was always doomed. Makes you wonder about if caring about other humans is just nature because in instances where this wasnt nurtured in him on any level - it didnt happen.
It is stated that grown men can go insane being in solitary confinement for any number of her of days, so to do this to a 14yo boy who alrdy is showing signs of mental and emotional illness is unheard of. I can not wrap my mind around this case. How did the system fail these children so badly?
Here in the UK if you are a minor by law the police have to contact the parents/ guardian or Child Protective Services before any interrogation begins. This case is terrible!
I don't understand why Prozac is no longer questioned. That was the first day he had taken it. Back when Canned was caught they were suggesting that Prozac had caused a lot of problems especially when examining killers. I have noticed that a lot of these channels I have watched have mentioned Prozac as one of the drugs that were taken. Have they just glossed over that study and forgotten about it???
Hi, I’m Russian and I’m from Saint Petersburg, and the things you are mentioning about 2014 “media crisis, protests and mocking zombified by state media and etc” are quite surprising. Because these are the pictures from the Zombi flash mob, that took place in my city every year since 2009 and had absolutely no connection with Ukrainians, government TV channels or anything like that at all. It was the way for people to express themselves and there was even a prize for the best costume given at the end of the event. This is just a little example of how your media can turn upside down anything about our media. No offense. But the fact that someone out there believes that this could be somehow connected to Ukranians is just insane🙄 I love Russia, I love Ukraine, I’m for the peace in the whole world, please understand, that it’s not what I’m trying to point out.
The media sure can be crazy. I have a hard time believing most of what I see on the news because they twist things so much. As an American I have had to explain to non-Americans that we Americans are not all rich with fancy things like they see in the movies. And then they believe the bad stuff in the news and think we are all over here doing drugs, shooting each other and all sorts of things that the majority of us are not doing. I wish that we had peace everywhere like you said. 😊 Peace and calmness. Blessings. 💜
I agree with austin, I don't think it's irrational to stock up on some supplies because you never know when a natural/man-made disaster (at the very least) is going to come through.
No minor should be interviewed or interrogated by the police without legal counsel being present. Full stop, end of story 😡 I don't think even a lot of parents would be able to do right by their kids legally in that situation. This boy was handled so badly by the cops and the courts just to get their stats up !! Yes he did wrong but he could have had such a different outcome 😢
YUP. Attorney presence should be mandatory for minors. Even if they or their parents don't want to take their advice, there should be a third party to represent the child's interests and monitor the interrogation, someone with the expertise necessary to call out police misconduct and shut it down.
I think he should have been sent to a psychiatric hospital instead of prison. He and his brother lived through hell at the hands of his abusive POS father. If the 2 had been removed from the home and been put into counseling, I think it may have stopped it from happening.
100% agree. It seems ridiculous there's all this evidence of abuse from this father. The kids are minors and their teeth are rotting out. What the actual fuck. The home is a mess full of pills? No one thought to try and plead for him to be put in a psych place?? Like come on. That feels so wrong Kid needs serious psychological help, not thrown into prison where it's infamous for ppl not doing better in those places
This is such a tragic, disturbing case: my heart goes out to that family, especially those little boys. They did not deserve that life and I completely agree with you guys on the way the confession was handled. That poor boy never stood a chance. He was just as much a victim as anyone.
Ultimately I feel horrible about the whole situation, and it’s so messed up how Elden was failed again and again his entire boyhood. But above all else I feel so bad for Jonathan. His entire life he suffered and then it all ending at his brothers hands.. your brother should be your protector. It makes me SO angry as a mother (I have a 7 year old daughter and will have my son next year) how children are caught in the crossfire of these miserable people’s lives, and breed evil and hatred from little boys when they had NO business bringing children into this world in the first place. That man had NO business being a father and that woman is a fuckin coward for abandoning her boys. People like this should take themselves out before they do any damage, ruining your children’s lives should be a crime- I’ll die on that hill
The DOJ needs to rethink charging people who have been under the government CPS who are abused to the point they try to stop the abuse themselves. This kid should have an ESQ to protect his rights and sue the govenerment social services and police department whom where aware of the abuse in the home.
One thing I can't stand in life is a dead beat parent!!! Mom knew that their dad was bonkers and left her kids with him.. bum lady!!! I have 4 boys and I can't imagine abusing them mentally physically or emotionally... Dad absolutely had a hand in how this boy turned out!! His father was probably schizophrenic or just terribly delusional from drug use and his mother allowed the abuse, then abandoned them in said abusive home... I dont understand why the school didn't step in! I work in a school and we're mandated reporters!! This kid also was left alone with 2 grown men that are police officers on a mission to make their case.. where was his mother? Some kinda social worker? An attorney?! To put a kid in solitary is horrific!!!!!! Wtf is that about?!?!?! Why didnt the kid tell about all the drills and stuff their father made them do?? Those officers are wack for interrogating a messed up teen boy like that.. they knew exactly what they were doing too! Eldon absolutely deserves punishment and I hope he does get parolled and can live some kind of normal life... this is one of them rough cases for sure!
I saw this case a couple days ago and thought that this would be a good one for lights out and here we are! You guys are so good. I love the whole mile higher family of podcasts.
I feel for these 2 boys. These boys were let down by the system , parents and family. Its hard to say if he deserved the time he got. Part of me says yes and the other part says no. I pray that he gets the help he needs and becomes a good functioning human being. This is a very very sad case.
Part of what causes lifelong mental health issues to soldiers, particularly in guerilla combat situations like Vietnam where there's no organized battles and battalions, just waiting on edge for days or weeks while nothing happens and then sudden bursts of violence, because the entire time nothing happens you can not let your guard down a moment and your mind is in survival mode the entire time and then after a conflict there's no break it's immediately back to survival mode and waiting on edge and you can not sleep and there's no shifts to rest ur always on alert and that's what causes PTSD and flashback reactions in vets This lifestyle for the kids is just as traumatic, with drills at any time and severe punishment for inadequacy, they likely got PTSD very much like being in an actual war My ex husband developed paranoid delusions and once fired a gun into the room my toddler and I were asleep in. He would not come to bed ever, he sat up in the living room in his chair with the TV off, all night. The sleep deprivation and state of high alert made the delusions more intense and bizarre and caused hallucinations of intruders and such. I can't imagine that being considered normal for a family, and the mom just humoring him until she dipped out
I think the father really brainwashed his son to believe his brother was the root of all their problems because of his disabilities. so sad this kind of abuse probably happens more often than we know
The cops were so crooked in this case. He should've been assigned a guardian if his mom couldn't be present. He had no idea what the consequences would be of talking to the cops and letting them lead him. And then to be placed in solitary for 70+ days...smh that's just wrong. The system failed him before and after the crime.
Prozac can mess you up bad. I was given it for depression. I was never a drinker or partyer but it completely changed my personality. I started drinking and doing stupid stuff. Finally got off it and i havent drank or anything since. Im convinced the prozac made me impulsive and changed my personality for the worse. Within a week of starting the drug I began having a hyper fixation on food and actually started to have an eating disorder and food restricting. In the 5 months i was on prozac I lost 70lbs. I have never had problems with ed before or after. I am 100% anti prozac.
I’ve been following for a while but recently started religiously watching! Even the older ones but now I’m obsessed. The stories are unique and your voices are so calming 🫶🏼🤘🏼 keep it up!
13:35 I like how you both being so much insight to SOOO many things going on! Even if this apocalyptic event happens at some point you need to just live your life and not worry so much of the world Issue’s and stick with your own.
I like when you guys cover these cases. I prefer them over "possessions," etc. I've also seen a lot of the interrogation footage you feature in your episodes as I've recently binned EWU videos as I find it so fascinating and like to hear your take.
I'm starting to dig whatever deal you have with EWU to let you use some of their footage haha, at first I was kinda like meh because I watch all their videos and some of these cases are so horrific you don't wanna hear them twice, but it's interesting to also get your thoughts and input on them 😊
These children never had a good life from the get go. Terrible family life. I can understand him killing his father but not the poor innocent brother. RIP Jonathan. The interview with the grandfather kind of pissed me off because he kept saying " not in front of anyone"...um excuse me sir but abuse is abuse even if it's not being done "in front of anyone".
This story is so sad, of course because of Jonathan - but there’s a part of me that feels so bad for Eldon, even though he did something so horrific. His environment lead him down such a horrible path. I hope he gets a second chance, overcomes his demons and can find stability and peace.
In the UK, anybody under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an appropriate adult when being interviewed by police. It's the same for vulnerable adults. It is crazy to me that a 14yo could have been interagated in this way without there being someone present looking after their interests
Damn man🥺 this poor kid didn't have a chance at life from the beginning. But I definitely don't think he should be in society. I would say a mental hospital possibly for the rest of his life. Poor guy🥺
This is an absolutely devastating case for everyone involved. From addiction, child abuse, domestic violence, its all so horrific. I feel so horrible and heart broken for his brother. I hope he finds the structure and rehabilitation he needs while in prison. Its hard to decipher if he ever deserves to be paroled. What he did to his poor little brother was so horrific and unjustified. The entire thing is just wildly upsetting
This is horrific, and very depressing. I feel bad for this kid. With the childhood he had, what kind of chance did he ever have? But on the other hand, the same can be said about a lot of murderers. Doesn't mean they should be let out.
I caught the Brendan Dassey comment Austin made. I would love to see you guys cover that case! It's so complex, and I think there would be a ton to debate on!
- heard a story many years ago, from a relative in Michigan, about their State Prison for the Criminally Insane at Ionia County - that when it was closed down it then became haunted
Prepping is a great thing People are only 6-9 meals away from chaos When people get hungry and scared they do dumb things We've already seen a preview of the bad behavior in the last few years Some people go crazy about prepping and make other preppers look bad but the government wont help you when shtf Gotta take care of yourself
That poor kid was screwed from his beginning! He was 14! And had No Friends because his dad made him Weird! And he was Physically Abused and Brain f’ed! Anyone think under those circumstances you would have been any different? I think he at least should have gotten mandatory psychological care at least until he was 18…21 would be better.
I feel horrible for both boys. Yes I know what Eldon did was beyond awful but I know first hand what mental abuse can do. The system failed them both in so many ways and them being able to question Eldon without an adult representative is just ridiculous. No kid that has been through what he had been through at that point is going to understand the situation as they presented it to him.
It's best practice to prep for whatever may happen.... there's a big difference between preparing and being delusional.... it's sad when kids are raised on the fringes of reality. If the delusion is all they are taught, the delusion is all they'll know. My heart breaks in those cases, I'd like to think I'd personally be able to escape that... but it's delusion to think you could if that's all you've ever known in life, without outside help... it's not like outside help comes always to everyone tho....
Sure the kid killed is father and brother and theres nothing that excuses it but i hatw that the police didn't really want to know more about his environment and how he was treated. From what was sais about his hygiene and stuff i think they should be able to tell this kid is not alright.
I grew up watching horror movies, in a very violent home. I still love a good scare but I do suffer from PTSD and am bipolar. So yeah lol, maybe hold off on the gore and just hug your bbys as much as you can and as often as possible
A bunch of people are boycotting EWU and have petitionedbagainst them due to some issues with a video they were releasing against families wishes. Just letting you know, I know mile higher tends to shy away from media that does such things.
Great show 🥰 I listen on Spotify, too. I just love you guys and Kendall ❤ Never stop doing what you're doing!! You and your work are needed !! You're my heroes ❤️ Thank you!!
Idaho has always been lacking in the justice department. If you could, please do a video on the Angie Dodge case. That case has a gross injustice of Christopher Tapp, Angie Dodge, and all of Idaho Falls.
I couldn't watch in its entirety the first time. I had to stop bc I started bawling 😭 when I heard what he did to his brother. As a mom of a 4yo nonverbal autistic; It fckn killed me to even think of my boy being in such a horrendous situation. Eldon is a victim of his circumstances and for that I feel so terrible but there are plenty of ppl who are victims of terrible situations who don't even think of doing things like that. Albeit the drugs and his mental stability have a lot to do with it I believe but the true victim in all of it was indeed Jonathan and I can't help but hope he's happy and liberated and free from his earthly limitations.
my heart breaks for jonathan, who only knew neglect and abuse until his life was ended by his own brother. jonathan deserved so much better than the family he was given
I feel the same way. Poor Jonathan
Eldon was subjected to the same amount of neglect and abuse. My heart breaks for both of those boys.
Sad for both of the boys. The parents failed them both terribly and their bs brainwashed Eldon about his brother.
I'm with Kendall. I have no desire to try to survive an apocalypse. And I have little faith that I could, even if I wanted to try.
yeah same. if it was gonna be a quick extinction, like an asteroid hitting or something that would happen in a moment, I'd grab my boys and my husband and hold them until we went out. if it was a long, drawn-out, potentially painful end i would pull a "mist" on all of us- just make sure i wasn't one round short like that dad. I'm not nearly fit, smart, or clever enough to survive an apocalypse and i can admit that lol

I rarely get emotional over true crime, but my heart breaks for Jonathan. I can’t imagine how terrified he must have been. A tragic end to a sad life
I don't think he hated his brother at all.
He still killed him oh well about how he felt
@@essencesims4773 he was a 14 year old boy, who had an underdeveloped brain that was made even worse after years of abuse, brainwashing, and being pumped full of drugs. Should he be locked away from society for what he did? Yes, of course, but we SHOULD care how he feels because if we know what made him this way we can stop stuff like this from happening in the future.
@@jwats9184 THIS 💯
@@jwats9184 I agree with everything you have said except for him being locked away.

Exactly. Great understanding.
Well said! 100%
@shaunalynch5703 sorry that happened to you. I can imagine how hard that was for you.

@@creekbird_homestead No, you are WRONG. Eldon did. Did you not watch the video?? In fact, he was interviewed immediately and as a minor with no parent or adult present. Eldon deserved so much more help than he was given. From being with his parents to being charged with murder. They took advantage of him. I also feel bad for Johnathan. He was treated so terribly
This kid was literally introduced to extreme violence at such a young age… he needs HELP more than prison
You're correct about that, and some blame themselves instead of others but I think it's more common for the opposite to be true.. sometimes if the abuse is early enough it doesn't matter if cps gets to the kid, they will always be different and likely won't be able to handle normal levels of stress in life
It’s does absolute damage and when young enough the damage is permanent. It’s so sad.
Only if your friend had mercy on ver victim
Jeez the police were against the obvious killer? Get a grip idk why so many of you are defending a murderer

Lots of children get abused and drug addicted and don’t murder anyone let alone family but there has always been an argument in science between nature and nurture some people are literally raised and broken to be evil people just like some people are born that way

You rock!!
48:15 It may not be appropriate to say but I feel bad for this kid. It’s not his fault that he was raised that way.
Yeah, I thought that was a bit of an odd take! A child is either mature enough to learn how to handle a deadly weapon, or they're not.
To be good with anything a person needs to be trained at a young age. Knives and fire arms are tools. When used properly they are not dangerous. Cars kill more people than guns every day but we let kids drive and most people drive around with their heads up their asses. What's the difference?
He also said it was odd to make him practice stabbing people in the head that's different than just using a knife.
A lot of us at least those that live out of cities in America were trained on gun safety and handling from a young age. Knives are way more personal imo and have a more disturbing execution
💯💯💯💯💯
This case is a clear example of the system failing the kids
This poor kid. The mental capacity he has to endure that interrogation. Probably from his dad’s continuous torment.
I highly recommend Explore With Us! They show entire interrogation interviews and have professionals breakdown every twitch and cough. Truly fascinating channel
A 10 year old with knife is a red flag, but with a firearm it's not?! I know Americans are pro guns but it is still baffling to me
lol right but then they went on to say they’re actually all not red flags on their own just together XD ima have to disagree with them there
I know it’s strange… my neighbors would take their 7 year old to practice shooting guns for fun.
10 is when a lot of people start to go hunting with their families
I’m catching up on this episode and literally just commented the same thing! As a Brit I will never understand this
Poor Eldon and his brother Jonathan…. police get involved after the worst happened, who was there while they were both being abused?
Every time you think you've heard it all, you turn on the Lights Out podcast and hear about a child having to pee on his mother.
Asking what he thinks should happen to someone that killed his father and brother is a standard question in the Reid technique
Agreed. But in this case...it wasn't necessary at that particular time.
I like that you guys actually talk about how they felt or what could’ve happened for them to act the way they act. Not just focusing on what they did and solely that. You explore the human condition.
Austin you should look more into inmates with solitary confinement. I've heard things from people who have been in there for years.
If you’re under 18 you should be in a juvenile facility no matter what. It’s mind blowing to me that any children get sent to adult facilities.
Here in the UK if you are a minor by law the police have to contact the parents/ guardian or Child Protective Services before any interrogation begins. This case is terrible!
same in Austria
And that we have Appropriate Adults to be there with you and support you while in custody!
EDIT: Dahmer not Canned
Hi, I’m Russian and I’m from Saint Petersburg, and the things you are mentioning about 2014 “media crisis, protests and mocking zombified by state media and etc” are quite surprising. Because these are the pictures from the Zombi flash mob, that took place in my city every year since 2009 and had absolutely no connection with Ukrainians, government TV channels or anything like that at all. It was the way for people to express themselves and there was even a prize for the best costume given at the end of the event. This is just a little example of how your media can turn upside down anything about our media. No offense. But the fact that someone out there believes that this could be somehow connected to Ukranians is just insane🙄
I love Russia, I love Ukraine, I’m for the peace in the whole world, please understand, that it’s not what I’m trying to point out.
Peace and calmness. Blessings. 💜
Poor Jonathan, he was failed by all the adults from his life....why his mother did not even try to get at least half of custody
His mother is just as bad.
I agree with austin, I don't think it's irrational to stock up on some supplies because you never know when a natural/man-made disaster (at the very least) is going to come through.
No minor should be interviewed or interrogated by the police without legal counsel being present. Full stop, end of story 😡
I don't think even a lot of parents would be able to do right by their kids legally in that situation.

That feels so wrong

I really feel sorry for him. I agree with Danny that he deserves a second chance. He really grew up with no love and guidance

I feel for these 2 boys. These boys were let down by the system , parents and family. Its hard to say if he deserved the time he got. Part of me says yes and the other part says no. I pray that he gets the help he needs and becomes a good functioning human being. This is a very very sad case.
Part of what causes lifelong mental health issues to soldiers, particularly in guerilla combat situations like Vietnam where there's no organized battles and battalions, just waiting on edge for days or weeks while nothing happens and then sudden bursts of violence, because the entire time nothing happens you can not let your guard down a moment and your mind is in survival mode the entire time and then after a conflict there's no break it's immediately back to survival mode and waiting on edge and you can not sleep and there's no shifts to rest ur always on alert and that's what causes PTSD and flashback reactions in vets
This lifestyle for the kids is just as traumatic, with drills at any time and severe punishment for inadequacy, they likely got PTSD very much like being in an actual war
My ex husband developed paranoid delusions and once fired a gun into the room my toddler and I were asleep in. He would not come to bed ever, he sat up in the living room in his chair with the TV off, all night. The sleep deprivation and state of high alert made the delusions more intense and bizarre and caused hallucinations of intruders and such. I can't imagine that being considered normal for a family, and the mom just humoring him until she dipped out
32:08 Just here to give major props to Josh for pronouncing both Coeur d’Alene and Spokane near perfectly LOL
What did his brother do to deserve that?! Like damn.. overkill
I think the father really brainwashed his son to believe his brother was the root of all their problems because of his disabilities. so sad this kind of abuse probably happens more often than we know
He was gay!
He already had a history of abusing his brother
The cops were so crooked in this case. He should've been assigned a guardian if his mom couldn't be present. He had no idea what the consequences would be of talking to the cops and letting them lead him. And then to be placed in solitary for 70+ days...smh that's just wrong. The system failed him before and after the crime.
I think he needed to be under watch in a mental facility. I'm a little angry that more people don't see this as his father's fault
It is totally the fathers fault for forcing his deluded zombie shiz onto his son from a young age!

The other inmates probably some admire him & some want to stick him. He was safe in solidarity. 🤦♀️🤷♀️🫠🤪
This is interesting 🧐 I'm gonna remember your post fur awhile.. .!!!!
Rock On 💃👩🎨
Thank you 🙇♀️
I can not wait!! I'm so excited for this to come out. I'm definitely going to be watching!!
I like when you guys cover these cases. I prefer them over "possessions," etc. I've also seen a lot of the interrogation footage you feature in your episodes as I've recently binned EWU videos as I find it so fascinating and like to hear your take.
Agree I stay away from those videos
Not me, turning on a podcast to listen to, and hearing Modesto, Ca, where I live. Geesh. We're not known for anything good anymore.
Eeee I love EWU. Thank you both for always producing great content! ♡
I'm starting to dig whatever deal you have with EWU to let you use some of their footage haha, at first I was kinda like meh because I watch all their videos and some of these cases are so horrific you don't wanna hear them twice, but it's interesting to also get your thoughts and input on them 😊
He’s so far detached its kinda unreal 💕💕
Same here in Australia.
Kootenai county is corrupt. If you lived here this investigation would make a lot of sense to you.
i got a long road trip today so this is perfect for me. ❤ love y'all and happy holidays!
I'm excited to watch this! Love these 3, they always do an awesome show.
Austin, we are birthday twins!!!! It was my 21st birthday on 12/21/12. I was whacked out by the fact its all one's and twos and my golden birthday.
This is horrific, and very depressing. I feel bad for this kid. With the childhood he had, what kind of chance did he ever have? But on the other hand, the same can be said about a lot of murderers. Doesn't mean they should be let out.
This kid never had a shot at life. So sad 😞.
Prepping is a great thing
People are only 6-9 meals away from chaos
When people get hungry and scared they do dumb things
We've already seen a preview of the bad behavior in the last few years
Some people go crazy about prepping and make other preppers look bad but the government wont help you when shtf
Gotta take care of yourself
People have fasted for months, I'm sure someone can go without 6 meals 😂
@@breakfastattiffanys741they CHOSE to fast for months. Thats different
He just seems so detached..
I mean I'd probably do whatever I had to do to check the fuck out 24/7 if I grew up like that.
The EWU crew is amazing, I love them!
Zombi out break is even on the cdc website lol
Sure the kid killed is father and brother and theres nothing that excuses it but i hatw that the police didn't really want to know more about his environment and how he was treated. From what was sais about his hygiene and stuff i think they should be able to tell this kid is not alright.
I grew up watching horror movies, in a very violent home. I still love a good scare but I do suffer from PTSD and am bipolar. So yeah lol, maybe hold off on the gore and just hug your bbys as much as you can and as often as possible
Omg!! I’m from Modesto CA. Never heard of this case, crazy!!
I lived in Coeur d Alene around this time and and was the same age as him. I had no idea about this case. CRAZY!!!!
You're my heroes ❤️ Thank you!!
around 10:15 the audio cuts out 😭
I came to the comments to see if it was just mine lol. I guess the haunting of the studio is back
@@hardysqueen1 yeah i also thought it was maybe just my phone, but i replayed it and it didnt change!
Idaho has always been lacking in the justice department. If you could, please do a video on the Angie Dodge case. That case has a gross injustice of Christopher Tapp, Angie Dodge, and all of Idaho Falls.
Thanks guys! Really interesting one.
This is how I fall asleep every night!
Modesto has become a high drug use, crime city. I lived in modesto 1972 to 2018. It once was a beautiful town. So sad.
Anyone elses audio cut out for a bit from 10:18-10:22?
Yeah, it's the secrets we keep inside are so corrosive. Not the things we EVER talk about.
Amen 🙇♀️We actually only hear about 80% of those types of crimes. It was ROUGH
Watching from Minnesota😊
