w video :) kubo was my first introduction to slice of life/romance and it still is my fav after many hours of watching others, something about it just sticks.. but i completely agree, the manga's pacing was better than the anime's, and your point is correct honestly, where it goes on some awkward shots for too long, droning on, while the manga is more based upon whether the reader wants to stare at a single panel for 30 seconds... great analysis, and as one of those ppl that only watch new videos if they like the topic firstly, i thought the vid was well made :D
Hey thanks so much for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I definitely think the anime had its highlights. I thought the first two episodes were particularly well done and paced well. The rest of the episodes just kinda missed it for me. Still I think outside of pacing it was a really adorable series and maybe I was a bit too hard on it during this review, I was just really annoyed that something I loved reading wasn’t connecting for me on the screen. I love the romance and slice of life genre and most of my reviews will be around that so I hope you’ll continue to find something on this channel you want to talk about. Thanks for taking the time to comment and I hope we will get to chat again soon!
Oh, a review on the series. I honestly, having read the manga and seen the anime, I really liked both series. The anime is an adaptation of Chapters 1-47 of the manga, which means that there is a greater emphasis on just Kubo and Shiraishi, as to compare to later chapters which feature Hazuki, Sudo and Tama in much greater detail. I found the animation pretty good for the very limited production schedule the animators had and the soundtrack to be a very nice and mellow one.
I do think that pacing is the largest issue of the series. Each episode adapts roughly 4 chapters of the manga, but most chapters can be easily breezed through in about 2 minutes, as to compared to the 4-6 minutes of adaptation that each chapter gets. I like to believe that if maybe 1 more chapter was adapted in each episode, it could actually resolve pacing issues, with the best example of that actually being episode 5 of the series, which has some very neat staging, backgrounds and much better pacing issues between the stories it features (them eating outside, Kubo defending Shiraishi at the dinning place, them sharing their favorite music, Kubo watching Shiraishi's favorite anime, and finally the White Day chocolate events)
This is exactly what I’m saying! Though I’d use episode 1 as the best example of pacing. The jokes land really well, you get a great sense of the characters and their interactions. Solid world building. It’s a near perfect representation of what the series is about. I agree they probably could have adapted an extra chapter per episode to pick up the pace. I did like the animation and I think overall it’s well done just a little boring and if they would’ve paced it better it could’ve been great. Thanks for watching!
@@sadmarcus Also, there is a lack of variety in character interactions, since the friends aren't as prescent early on. The lack of Sudo is felt, as he only appears in episode 9 and a cameo in 12. He's just such a ball of charisma in the manga
@@extrahistory8956 I agree. I do like that it’s teased a little towards the end of the season. I like that the first season is establishing Kubo and Junta’s friendship and chemistry and their family dynamics. It’s just as important to the series I loved just getting to know them. It makes their eventual affection for one another feel earned which I feel like is missed in a lot of these slow burns. Like Junta isn’t just a stupid protagonist that makes dumb unrealistic decisions and I think we needed that time with him to establish that. Same with Kubo she isn’t just a perfect heroine there to save the protagonist, she’s got her own issues and I think a lot of that is played out with her interactions with Akina. Just seeing how she’s kind of a dick to Akina is hilarious.
Oh yeah I would definitely recommend the manga over the anime. It’s honestly a beautiful story. The best part…it’s complete at 12 volumes and they are like 12 or 13 bucks per volume so it’s easy to collect. Thanks so much for watching and I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I haven't seen this one but it sounds like it might be a pass for me, I've gotten sick of getting blueballed from romance stories that don't go anywhere.
It’s not really a bluebell since the focus is more on character growth and just the slice of life elements. It’s a much better read than watch though, even if you only focus on the arcs covered in the anime. The best part the manga is complete at 12 volumes! Thanks for watching I really appreciate it
@@sadmarcushey do u have some anime recommendations? İve watched alot off anime so im running out ive also read too much manhwa atp ima have to resort to netflix 😭😭😭
Yo I really liked your review and tbh i would really like a 2nd season for it tbh ,i wonder if you could make a video about jiisan baasan wakagaero / grandpa and grandma turn young again Thx for your efforts
I actually really want to see that anyway. I'll put it on my list! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I hope I wasn't too harsh on Kubo. I LOOOOVVVEEEE the manga if that wasn't clear from this video. Thanks for watching and I hope you'll stick around for more!
I have bad taste in romance anime My favorites are Toradora And from me to you I just love cheesy romance I’m sorry if my taste is bad I find it relatable that the characters have a hard time expressing their feelings I’m sort of like that myself
@@creedecriswell634 first if nobodies taste is bad (unless you’re one of those types that recommend death note to literally anyone trying out anime or manga…I have my reasons but I swear I stop listening if death note is the first thing that comes out of someone’s mouth lol). That’s the beauty of the medium, there’s sooooo much variety and now we as westerners finally have access to so much of it! Toradora is S-Tier and highly influential in the romance/slice of life/ high school coming of age genre! I watched it for the first time a few months ago and damn does it hold up really well. I finished it in one sitting. Or maybe one and a half sitting but still, it was that damn good. I like cheesy romance as long as the characters are good and they find interesting ways to use the tropes. I actually liked Kubo, just the anime was a little boring for a manga series I personally consider prestige level. And no doubt, characters that have trouble expressing their feelings, despite what some people who like anime and manga will say are probably the most relatable characters because real people struggle to express their feelings. Nothing wrong with that, I like them too! In my romantic life (which is pretty much no existent and probably why I love romance manga so much) I have the same problems too! I actually really enjoyed your comment and I hope to see you more on this channel so we can talk more about the things we like, don’t and everything in between. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed the video!
I can say I never actually read the story I have been meaning to. but I did like the anime a lot and I hope for a season two. but I'm not like a person that don't have any understanding of reality so I know I should keep my Expectations for a second season to happen low.
Ah the eternal dilemma for any anime fan, especially for something that's not an action show. The manga is really really good. I highly recommend it. They both get a lot of development throughout and it's really nice seeing their relationship grow. There's also more a friend group formed which they kind of tease in the latter episodes of season one. Thanks for watching and I hope you'll stick around for more!
@@sadmarcus yeah right after I saw your video I begin reading the story I've read to Chapter 10. and planning on Reading to chapter 20 either today or tomorrow. I can already see what you mean that they kept very close to the source material
@@RedRose-vv1bu I’m glad you’re checking out the manga. The stuff after the anime ends is soooo good. A lot of great character work that’s really subtle and relatable. I honestly love this series. I’m still missing volume 6 though :( . I’ll probably finish the last two volumes in the next couple of weeks just my backlog has gotten pretty bad since I started making these videos. Right now im reading A galaxy next door which I’m looooving and neighborhood story which is also really good and juicy! I think A galaxy next door might be our next video actually, I like it that much.
@@sadmarcus a Galaxy Next Door I saw the anime and it's good as I think it is I think it's one of the ones where I can say it's might not be my style at least not enough for me to read it but it is good just not for me because everybody has their own taste in things but happy to see someone enjoys it
@@RedRose-vv1bu I’m actually reading it but I haven’t actually watched the anime yet but it’s been a really good read so far. I’m about a volume and a half away from finishing it. It’s a bit more complex than I thought it would be, it’s juggling a lot of different things at once and doing a surprisingly good job at most of it to only be 6 volumes to completion and 12 episodes (though I’m wondering if they may have cut a few things out of the anime, I guess we will see). I think the character work is solid with not only the leads but also the supporting characters and I love the fact that’s it’s not drawn out too much. Plus I love a story that retains the romance tropes and allow the characters to both be awkward and cute but also let them communicate their thoughts and feelings in a way that feels normal. I do feel like there are some things that could’ve been fleshed out a little more though but I’m not sure if it would’ve muddled the pacing too much if we take too much time away from the actual romance.
The problem is that you already read the manga before the anime, it's not that the anime is boring. I feel the sameway abou nagatoro anime since i already read the manga before watching it
See I disagree! For example I read the dangers in my heart before watching the anime and I loved both (as I detailed in my review). I just think at least for me Kubo misses on the pace. I’m actually having a similar problem with A galaxy next door. Loved the manga but I think I dislike the anime. I’m still working out my reasons why for that but I think it comes down to execution. The Kubo anime does a lot of things right I just think if they tighten the pace a little it’ll be excellent. I also think the manga got a little better in what would be season 2 since the cast opens up a little. Anyway thanks for watching!
