can it be controlled without the remote? looks like there's a dial on the front instead of those cheap lcd panels. would probably last longer.

Yes, it can! But the button is not a dial with settings, it is a push button with a light in the middle. Everything can´t be set, but On/Off works fine. More people have asked the question so I made a short video: th-cam.com/video/pbmtAYP5yN4/w-d-xo.html
