      Tommy's daughter, Hannah Shaw, is an even bigger treasure. As 'Kitten Lady', she has personally saved hundreds of kittens and saved thousands of cats by teaching us shelter volunteers how to care for neonatal kittens. Thank you Tommy Shaw for not only your brilliance but for having a daughter who has made a huge impact on many animals' lives. Hannah is a real gift!

    Tommy Shaw and the band treat Dennis horribly. There's no reason for it. Classless.

    • @TexTom1981
      @TexTom1981 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dennis went overboard with wanting theri concerts to be rock opera kind of things. He needed to go and do his thing on broadway...cuz that's where that belongs. Mr. Roboto at TexasJam SUCKED.

    • @mikeschmidt1612
      @mikeschmidt1612 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TexTom1981 There's that Behind the music mentality again. I followed Styx from 1975-2000. Saw them every tour. Tours back then centered around a new album; there was often a theme, not just with Styx. The entire band and fans were into it. The only tour that I would say comes close to a "rock opera thing" was the Kilroy tour, 1984. Perhaps in hindsight it wasn't the best move. No other tour, including the "Return to Paradise" in 1997 was that extreme. The "Broadway reference" is another lie perpetuated by JY. Dennis did a Broadway show and album as he puts it "as a favor to a friend", during a time when he was trying to persuade Tommy to return to the band. As he has also said, had Tommy not quit, he would never have released it or any solo albums. And and he certainly never attempted to incorporate "Broadway" into Styx. It's just not true.
      But that wasn't my point. Everyone has songs they like or dislike more than others, including the band members. But they go beyond that. They treat him like a pariah. Mr Roboto is one song. As a huge Dennis fan, I wouldn't mind never hearing that one again. Or Babe. They aren't bad songs, in their time, but there's much better songs by Dennis: Lady, Suite Madame Blue, Light up, Grand Illusion, Come Sail Away, Castle Walls, Borrowed time, Pieces of eight...
      There wouldn't be a band today if it wasn't for Dennis. They could, and should, show a little more respect.

    None of us know exactly what happened to cause all this animosity, but Roger Waters and Dave GIlmour have been at each other's throats legally for like 40 years now and, like Tommy, Dave controls the band's brand, but UNLIKE Tommy, Dave ROUTINELY praises the guy who wrote all the songs. He may hate the guy, or just wish he'd go away, but Dave Gilmour always praises Roger's songwriting in an incredibly classy and respectful way and GOSH it would be nice to see the Styx guys be that cool.

      I couldn't agree more on this one! With Floyd being at the top of my personal list, I've tracked this whole thing between both of these bands through the whole thong and I've seen both bands. I've ALWAYS liked Dennis De Young and, to me, without him, it just isn't the same. Both Tommy Shaw and Dennis De Young have their vocals and each makes those songs completely unique. Shaw might be able to pull this off because it was designed that way..but, songs like "Come Sail Away" can only be done by De Young! And, yes, I wish Shaw possessed the same "quiet desperation" that Gilmour (and Wright and Mason, for that matter) have always had. Floyd is known as "the thinking man's band" and I think that's why they've always been my personal favorite. But..Waters has had that same attitude towards the other 3 - especially Wright, who always got the brunt of Waters' fury unfairly. I never did understand how one founder could have such legal ramifications towards another. After all, both were there from the start. Without Wright there would be no "Great Gig", "Breathe" or "Any Colour You Like", along with a host of other amazing contributions.like "Echoes". I understand this comment completely! Now, there are two separate bands both touring as Styx and that makes absolutely no sense at all to me. The last time I saw Styx was in 96 and all 5 original members were there. It was 2 and a half hours of pure bliss because A.) they were able to do everything they're known for and B.) there was no.opening band because they had too much material to cover anyway - just like Floyd always did. I saw the recent Wall tour and the date was 10/10/10! I had to laugh to myself at the end of the show when some clown yelled "Encore!" It's The Wall, bozo! You don't get an encore! You get The Wall - and that's it.

    • @duanemcclure8324

      @@sandipage9525 I, myself just made that same comment! Without De Young, it just isn't the same. Now, there are two separate bands touring under the Styx name and that's just silly. Shaw can't make Come Sail Away sound right and De Young can't do this. They need to.knock off the nonsense before it's too late - like Floyd. Waters spent all those years in animosity and now Wright's gone. They got one chance at Live 8 thanks to Bob Geldolf's smooth talking and it was at that very moment he realized the huge mistake he'd made. By then, the damage was done. Styx still has that opportunity but they need to settle their differences NOW! Life is short and our rockers are dying off. We just lost Charlie Watts and the Stones were just about to tour - AGAIN - but Watts wasn't going. I didn't realize it was that serious. No more Ronnie James Dio. Greg Lake AND Kieth Emerson are now gone. I could go on and on. I get what everyone else here sees too. Believe me, I've responded to numerous comments here about Dennis De Young. Every band has it's sound but..it's the voice that really sets it apart. Don't get me wrong. I definitely like Tommy Shaw's voice. But, I love Dennis De Young's a bit better. I used his tone as a model during my 3 years of voice training at Peabody Institute here in Baltimore because I was told that he too was a three active singer. For males, that's extremely rare! Most are either bass and tenor, or tenor and soprano. Not all three. I have that too and was the only male to receive an award for it in 96. De Young is one of the only male vocalists that I know of that can pull that off comfortably. It can cause major damage! Ask Steve Perry. That's exactly why he no longer sings with Journey. Sure, he has some solo projects but you can hear the damage and it can be very painful to perform live after surgery. I know, I'm rambling. I just..get it - completely. This nonsense needs to stop pronto! Nuff said..

Tommy just walked away from the band to go be a “real rocker.” And when that fizzled out, Dennis welcomed him back. But, what did Tommy do when Dennis got sick and couldn’t tour? He found a way to kick him out of his own band. All Dennis asked for was a little time to get better.
