Amrut is a solid distillery. Their fusion continues to remain my favorite offering of theirs although the Kadhambam comes close.

I love port finishes so maybe I'll finally take a chance on one of these if I see it

I got to pick one in its older white themed packaging at a Duty Free is Sri Lanka for 100USD, so 120USD in the US is pretty good pricing.

As always a great review and another interesting option, just wish it wasn't so expensive! Not to be too sappy, but at 3:50 you say we're here for the nosing and the tasting. We are here for that, but at least for me I'm here to hear YOUR perspective on it presented by you. Many whiskey-tubers out there but I really appreciate your style. Thanks Bill!

Thanks Misha. That was a really nice thing to say 😀
I'm here to drink on camera and express my opinions loudly!

My best ever port so far is Teerenpeli Portti from Finland and Kavalan Solist Port from Taiwan. Pretty sure Indian port whiskey from Amrut is on par, as anything I've tried from them is phenomenal, but unfortunately it's next to impossible to find this one in particular.

They are comparatively new and small distlery focused on quality. They dont even allow customers to visit their distlery but they are slowly expanding and opening up. So we can hope in the future they would be cheaper and in more places

OK, I missed all the info on Amrut. This last Christmas I picked up a bottle of Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky, Cask Strength. $110.00, expensive for me anyway. Oh My! Im not used to cask strength and it was overpowering. Mix a bit of water and wow is it good! There is a really nice floral, spicy taste that changes from the first sip to the lingering taste a few minutes after a drink. So good! I almost never blind buy, especially an expensive (for me) bottle. I'm glad I did in this case, but that means I'm starting to spend more......

It's a slippery slope, but do your research and you'll never regret it 😀

so im a bourbon guy who likes scotch. that said, i have a hard time differentiating between scotch. to me this offering sounds like it would taste a lot like aberlour abunah. does it have any major differentiating notes?

Have you had the Kavalan Solist Port? How does the Portonova compare to it?

    • @ADSCP

Good question. As a big fan of portwood whiskies, I struggled with the Kavalan. It is so heavy on the cask.

I haven't tried it. Been dying to get into Kavalan, but the price keeps me off of it

Not Spanish, but Portuguese. Portonova would mean new port but instead of nova, the correct would be novo. In Spanish would be “puerto mueva or nuevo”.

I'm a little late to this but I just picked this up at my local binnys for 99. Can't wait to try it.

@willmc55555 which Binnys did you find it at for $99?

    • @willmc55555
      @willmc55555 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a clearance item at the Evanston location. I believe there's a bottle or 2 left but I can't recall 100%@@xiamengbaby

@willmc55555 I'm in the west suburbs closest to the Downers Grove, Willowbrook and Oak Brook Binny'ses. I love Binnys' end-of-bin clearance sales racks. I got a $120 Compass Box for $70. I just got some $50 sauternes finished French single malt for $30. That's where I look to buy bottles I wouldn't otherwise purchase.

Much expensive in comparison to scotch like Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban costs in EU 50-60 EUR. But in India is probably human work much more expensive 😂
