Beats me, squire. I've seen this film countless times and there was no way my old man was dubbed on the original release. The only grounds for his being dubbed was that he maybe didn't sound London enough (especially if it was done for the American market where we know how hooked they are on their Dick Van Dyke), but the thing is the voicer doesn't sound of anything, apart from one line where he goes a bit Port Talbot.
I noticed they did an overdub of johnny Shannon's and John bindons voice in the 1968 gangster classic performance on the Warner DVD. BTW those familiar w brit gangster films take notice johnny Shannon is in the hospital kidnap scene in villain!
He was welsh, thats why he couldn't really nail the cockney accent. Otherwise you aren't gonna Find a better brjtish gangster film than this, along with Out and long good friday
@@zacharymorgan9526 Much better than that that yank crap The Godfather or Goodfellas. My favourite line is from Nigel Davenport as Supt Matthews. You get indigestion if you eat your Rennie's too fast. Brilliant line
A good but underated solid British gangster film from early 70s in my view a pairing with Get Carter-it was said Burtons character was based on both the Kray brothers hence the brutal sadistic nature of his character,the violence and the car chase/robbery is realistically staged and the film is worth a look Auckland New Zealand 2021
No its not. ..and you DO need your brain examining. ..Burton was fucking ace in it...very memorable and true to the plot of a Kray style gangster/petty criminal. ..and it's all very well acted/exciting and gritty!
I watched this the other night, as there was not much else on. Couldn’t believe how bad Richard Burton was, totally miscast in this role. Dreadful London accent too!🤨
I don't agree-this is a good solid low budget Brit crime movie from early ,70s,good cast,locations,etc it was said Burton based his character on the Kray brothers hence the violence and was rated as giving an "actor ish" performance in his part
Nonsense! Burton captured the psycho aspect of the east end villain beautifully and his accent was fine. He was a brilliant actor and could adapt to just about any role.
