I loved the book, and this film captured the essence of the book, I loved all the actors and it was brilliantly directed. Well done to all involved in the production.
Extremely underrated movie. Even as someone who read the book, this film is quite good. I believe that those harshest on it miss, or don't appreciate, the vital message of it--the journey, not the ending, is the story. It emulates life--where there usually is no grandiose ending, just an accumulation of stories followed by a meager last breath.
Before everyone is quick to judge. THIS is the Kristen I love. Twilight, I don't even know what that was. Before you say this sucks because of her.. Watch some of the actually good movies she was in. She is really a great actress. Phenomenal actually.
knew i wasn't crazy...just 40 years ahead of everyone else. got into Kerouac in 1973 and have been telling people about him ever since. my 2 books just prove it.
@@erniereyes1994 I'd almost guarantee he has. If he likes Jack then I'd bet yes. This movie got made fun of. It's not as good as big Sur but this cinematography was special. Jack is gritty so it's tough to pull off. My dad read me visons of Cody when I was 9 so I get it.
My martial arts instructor and I met in the Florida Keys, where we quickly became great friends! I had already been living there for some time, and he came down to help his daughter graduate high school and apply for colleges. lived for decades in NYC, where he worked as a cab driver. Way back when, he met Kerouac at an obscure multi-disciplinary arts show. Not long after, the entire group then went out and bought Triumph motorcycles, and then headed to 'The Promised Land' of San Francisco. Hearing the stories about how they had almost nothing to eat, so wherever they stopped to camp for the night on their adventure out West, they'd drop a line in the water. Another person would then do some foraging, so they were able to make a nice healthy meal for next to nothing. My instructor told me stories about how the motorcycle headlamp would burn out, and they'd have order a new light - and in the meantime they'd tape a big flashlight (the kind with the huge square battery) to the handlebars, and hope for the best!
you gotta remember, they were all hyped up on bennys. kind of like reading the stranger and not realizing all the cigarettes were of the opium variety. although in his book, kerouac definitely clues you in to that fact.
Will you please shut up about Kristen Stewart. The movie isn't about her, it's about one of the best books ever writen. It's about Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg,... It's about the beauty of words!
Still puzzled as to why this was not appreciated as a film? I thought it was a solid attempt at interpreting the book and Salles pulled it off very nicely
The only good thing about this movie is the trailer... I absolutely LOVE the book! But this movie just fragments the story so much and does not allow the viewer to form any attachment to the characters that the book exemplified so well.
THIS is the kristen i fell in love with fuck all that twilight bullshit! watch her in all her other films besides twilight and i challenge anyone to call her a bad actress afterward
with a book that prolific/held dear to the hearts of so many people there's always going to be a huge portion claiming that the wrong parts were kept in/left out, that they didn't do certain bits right... from the get go it's a very difficult novel to capture in film because so much of what made it good was in the writing style/the flow of the prose and it's hard to retain that in a medium that is mostly visual
I'll have to watch the movie again. I'm at the end of the book. Parts in the movie aren't in the book and other parts are changed. The opening voice over like here in the trailer is different in the book. He met Dean after he split from his wife, not after his dad died. That could be written so to avoid plagiarism.
Yeah, th3 book is way better, but the movie is yet a great attempt to put in visual things about the book. The finale was actually more accurate to be honest
OK personally I am not a fan of Twilight or Snow White. but I watched Kristen's performance in Panic Room, she was a child star back then. She did the movie with Jodie Foster, Forest Whitaker and Jared Leto. That was when I first saw her, and she was really good.
Watch something other than Snow White and Twilight. She's been in over 50 movies. Dating back to when she was nine. You mean to tell me Snow White is and Twilight were the only movies of hers you are going to judge her entire career by.
The trailer seems a lot like the book: a cool atmosphere, interesting on its surface, but with no cohesion, and not a lot of meaning, not a lot of answers to really be scooped out of it in the end.
The movie doesn't come out everywhere until 2013? That's it! The world's not ending until everyone watching this trailer gets to see On the Road & Kill Your Darlings! Screw the Mayans, man! This is Kerouac we're talking about here! lol
Love the Idea of the book, and also the fact that its.. On the Road :D one of my favourite places.. but the main character, besides all the Charm,,...Madness.. Beauty.. "Holyness" lol he is quite an Asshole. and a total Nut. Funny cause I just finished Fight Club before starting this movie, its as if Sal is Edward Norton and Dean, is Tyler Durden in an older adaptation.. what they show in the Film , and book is the fascination of One with the Mad ones, the ones who burn.. love the quote btway. But.besides all this, "fascination" you gotta see how much of a total prick Dean is, how much impact he has on the lives of all those around him! Marriages, kids left behind.. people women hurt. They got it right though, he Burns, hes in the moment" .. but if the Novel had continued , I would have been curious to see if all his life Dean acts like the Sun and those around him.. the objects, the puppets. its not cool I love the Travelling theme of the movie and one of the reasons I picked it, but at times I felt the need to punch the "Holy" character in the face :P *source: aspiring Psychologist
On another note, in the End I felt sorry for Dean. He was still the poor kid while Sal is the rich kid, with the upper class Society. in many ways Dean lives Life much more intensely than any of those upperclass ppl, and Sal also did. with him. I identify with Dean very much, except the Asshole part
From what I see from this trailer, Kristen Stewart's character is sexually involved with both guys but the guys are not sexually involved with each other. This movie got listed as a gay-themed movie but I don't see it.
I read ON THE ROAD many years ago. I hitchhiked the United States for most of 23 years. Hopefully, someday I will watch the movie.
I loved the book, and this film captured the essence of the book, I loved all the actors and it was brilliantly directed. Well done to all involved in the production.
This film is so underrated. It was beautifully made. The cast are A++ list including Kirsten Dunst
On The Road was one of the best books ever written
Garrett Hedlund is amazing actor
he looks good which is about it lol

All jokes aside, this trailer is so beautiful... I want to weep with joy!
My favourite book of all time.
I loved the movie too - I am going to watch it again, i to want get all the dialog.
poor you
@@a-gyimotfalvi-betyarok Something wrong with his choice of literature?
It’s a great book, Kerouac’s masterpiece

This Book is a Timeless Masterpiece.
Not really. I hate to burst your bubble but Stewart's career was built long before Twilight. Personally I think she's a good actress.
Didn't know who she was before Twilight
Panic Room was probably her biggest role before Twilight
Let us not forget Catch That Kid!!
@@ephemeral783into the wild as well
Name 6 others, 😂
Just finished the book.
I have to admit, it was quite a trip.

Her Performance in the Fighter was Brilliant.
If you like her now.... Watch the Fighter. I Guarantee your gonna love her more.
Can't wait to see this! Hopefully it does the book justice:)
you gotta remember, they were all hyped up on bennys. kind of like reading the stranger and not realizing all the cigarettes were of the opium variety. although in his book, kerouac definitely clues you in to that fact.
Kristen Stewart is fucking amazing in this movie as is Garrett Hedlund. Oscar buzz going around for both of them. Amazing job I loved it!

The song is "home" by will Hanson
Now I’m curious to watch this
why didn't they feel the need to mention kirstin dunst. She's just as important.
When Hollywood thinks it understands but makes a pale reflection in a clouded mirror.
The only good thing about this movie is the trailer... I absolutely LOVE the book! But this movie just fragments the story so much and does not allow the viewer to form any attachment to the characters that the book exemplified so well.
it was surprisingly good
Can't wait to see this movie. When does the dvd come out??
There ain't no such thing no more as DVDs. :/
Hope u have seen this movie
THIS is the kristen i fell in love with fuck all that twilight bullshit! watch her in all her other films besides twilight and i challenge anyone to call her a bad actress afterward
probably the first book of paradise lost, given up halfway through.
Can someone identify the song on the trailer? I've heard it somewhere, but I can't remember it's name...
I've just read the book, and I liked it.
yes have you found the song after ten years. please tell me you have lol.
with a book that prolific/held dear to the hearts of so many people there's always going to be a huge portion claiming that the wrong parts were kept in/left out, that they didn't do certain bits right... from the get go it's a very difficult novel to capture in film because so much of what made it good was in the writing style/the flow of the prose and it's hard to retain that in a medium that is mostly visual
OF COURSE
Where can I see this movie?
the music....
Carolyn Cassady (Neal's wife) insists they got this so wrong. Honestly, the trailer looks great, I'll have to check it out.
Wait what movie is this
His name is Dean Moriarty, same name like Dean from wizards of waverly place :O
I'll have to watch the movie again. I'm at the end of the book. Parts in the movie aren't in the book and other parts are changed. The opening voice over like here in the trailer is different in the book. He met Dean after he split from his wife, not after his dad died. That could be written so to avoid plagiarism.
right on thanks for the tip
Even the richest hipsters couldn't take a trip across the country like this nowadays. Gas prices are just too damn high.
I will see it tonight.. It looks well done, but I don't really like the actor they choose for Dean. I don't think Dean should look like him.
Who narrarated this trailer?
Beautiful
i have to disagree, it was completely fragmented version of the book. You can't connect to the characters and the movie gets dean's nature wrong.
Yeah, th3 book is way better, but the movie is yet a great attempt to put in visual things about the book. The finale was actually more accurate to be honest

Do you understand why everyone's complaining about it?
Isn't it wonderful how indie films don't need to care about opinions from people?
LOL. Movies are even more capitalistic than books were. When opinions equal money, everyone cares.
this reminds me of the Mad TV skit "Pretty White Kids with Problems"
The trailer seems a lot like the book: a cool atmosphere, interesting on its surface, but with no cohesion, and not a lot of meaning, not a lot of answers to really be scooped out of it in the end.
haha my thoughts exactly

Prigat9876 You should read off the road. Some of the movie used reference from his wife's book.
Also Big Sur as an appearance of Neal (Dean) and you can see he actually calmed down at some point
not another teen movie - no, it isn't.

@bracomadar Then how have I already done it twice?
I like Kristen Stewart! She's unique and original.
From what I see from this trailer, Kristen Stewart's character is sexually involved with both guys but the guys are not sexually involved with each other. This movie got listed as a gay-themed movie but I don't see it.
BURN. BUUURN, BUUURN, BUUURN!

Is Dean meant to be Neil Cassady?
dean moriarty 0.0 wizards of waverly place LMAO
where’s the mexican girl he loved in the book ???

you mean she actually has more than one facial expression now?
Please stop add
Kristen is a good actress. Hate Twilight not the actors.
haha I felt the same way about snow white. The trailer looked so good, then i saw kristen stewart was snow white and I lost all interest.
Kristen Stewart being in an indie film is nothing new. She's been in several of them, with the odd major release or two like Panic Room.
