Mary I so identified with your teaching and no one should lose themselves for a job. I cried so much before leaving the profession but teachers can't keep sacrificing themselves for education as no one remembers or understands when you are no sleeping at night and living on cereal bars because you have no time or energy to shop. Teaching needs a serious review x

You just dont know how much this video is blessing me right now. I am in the EXACT same situation as you as a teacher. All year I have resisted quitting in the middle of the year but I am so miserable. I decided to hang on until the end of the year but that is it for me. I just cant do it anymore. I recently told admin that I will not be returning next year even though I have no idea what Im going to do. All I have is a hope and a prayer that God will lead me and bless me for stepping out on faith. Thats why I know that God is using you right now because he knew I needed to hear this. I didn't think planes were my thing either but at 48yrs I became a flight attendant, retired 2013, When I went to college I thought that I wanted to teach.
Girl, you are telling my testimony. I quit teaching after almost 5 years the same time that you did. It was rewarding for awhile but so much was happening and I was reaching severe burnout from the pressure of it all. By the grace of God, I started my current job in January and I could not be happier. It pays less, but it is my dream job and it is actually an opportunity that God has been urging me to take for years. It's amazing what God will do when you exercise just even the smallest amount of faith in Him.

I can totally relate to your video! I am a teacher in NC, actually an alumni of ECSU and the pay is pretty frightening! I am in my sixth year of teaching and this year has given me the confirmation that I've needed to start focusing on the next chapter. Just like you, I spend weekends, late nights, and countless hours thing of how I can help my students make growth. There are so many ventures that I hope to pursue and have not moved forward with due to fear! From one Mary to another, this is also my life story, word by word! 20 yrs of teaching and am finding it more and more difficult as each year goes by! Kids have changed soo much, parents, society, in general! We are responsible for a million and one tasks in the classroom and out of it! Love my profession but it's become more and more difficult and draining! You have to be in this profession to really understand how demanding it is! Eugenie Runner I'm less than 6 years. in and I don't know how you made it to 20 years....there's no way I can do this for the rest of my life....it's too much work, pressure and stress...the only way ppl can last for 20+ years is because they started when society was different. to me it's not worth my while. I'm broke all the time, stressed, under paid and undervalued. I can't freaking do it.

Great video, I have a friend who also quit teaching. This person loved teaching and was very passionate about it, but there s a lot of politics and the bullying some teachers are exposed in some schools (Not in every school, but some) can be unberable. Anyway, you ve got a great channel
Wowwwwww my story exactly! Last year was a very hard year for me also... I cried going to work and leaving work lol it was the worst experience... I left the charter school in February and went to a public school thinking it would be better and it was worst. I resigned in June. I've taught for eight years and year after year i didn't want to do it anymore. In my heart I know I should have my own fashion boutique but I am transitioning into School Counseling. Getting my masters in that while I work as an early intervention teacher which is actually supplemental instruction so it's not a classroom teacher anymore 🙌🏾🙌🏾 and I will do home Instruction...God opened up doors and as I finish my masters and build my finances even more I will open up that boutique and the fashion aspect of my life... God is faithful

I never became a traditional elementary classroom teacher because I went to grad school and got a SPED degree and have done that for 15 years. I am trying to transition into therapy now and then eventually a career in technology. Carrying on! 😊

Cried at work at the end when you started singing Travis Greene. I was listening to that song this morning on my way to work and I feel stuck as well but I know God will make the next step clear because He brought me into my current role, a job I didn't even know existed and He has kept me. But my heart longs to be creative and I feel barren all the time because I have natural abilities but don't know how to use them/don't want to use them if all they'll bring is self-glorification. Can't wait to see what God does in your life soon!

So funny I just watched your video on why you quit and now I see your comment! I love children, I love teaching, but I am ready to leave the classroom. You both are beautiful and inspirational.
I could only dream of ever feeling like my teaching job was "comfortable" it is the worst thing ever! The students are horribly behaved, the parents are judgmental and mean. I want to quit. But I don't have any other hobbies, and I don't want to go back to school. I want a completely different job with the degree I already have. I've never felt good at being a teacher. I have the best intentions and try to be creative but the students just don't cooperate. My family tells me to go for my masters or for a different concentration in teaching, but why would I keep investing in a field I can't stand anymore? I need someone to point me in the right direction because it's not right to wake up every morning feeling hatred towards some kids, and wanting to cry and stay in bed instead of taking on the day. By the way, I live in the Caribbean and get paid less than half of $50,000. I almost moved to Texas because they offered me exactly that amount, and I considered that to be a huge amount of money. I have no interest in Texas though.

It’s September 30th, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be quitting at the end of first quarter. It’s the start of my 6th year, but I truly just hate teaching. Too much paperwork and not enough appreciation. It’s stressful and I feel guilted into going o work every day because of the unrealistic expectations society has on teachers.
I'm so glad I found this group of people in this new season in my life. All I can do is cry as you speak my life. I can't even believe how I stumbled on this site!! God is amazing!! Great message... I've been VERY stuck in my life for the past 2 Yrs due to caring for my dad. It's been very hectic caring for my husband son and elderly parent. I too was a teacher ( I feel your frustration and why moving on is necessary) and have been looking for my calling to do what God would have me to due. I too quit my job as a school counselor last year. I've been an educator for 16 years. I was miserable and I can sooooo relate to this video. Happened to be searching videos for transitioning teachers wanting to leave the field. Your story spoke to me on sooooo many levels! May god continue to bless you and your platform. You have inspired me to work at creating a future that will make me happy while utilizing my god given talents. After 14 years, teaching has been exhausting, draining, and just not fun anymore. My mother always says that I am the King’s child and that he owns everything I need. This message is life changing. Its 2:38 am EST. I am at the 12 min mark, and will pick up in the am. I am currently a ParaPro and have things in place to transition into teaching. Last year was so ...... I will just say I respect anyone who makes a career, and has the gumption to be a teacher. I go back in a few weeks, and I am dreading it. God willing January I will transition to another phase. I have never been more stressed and frustrated. I guess part of it is me, and part is the system, but regardless, it has been bad for my health. God bless.

This popped back up on my feed after watching Martha's video recently on how she left the classroom. I've been feeling this same way for the last four years and God keeps telling me to just trust Him and let go of what's not serving me. I aspire to have some of the same things you have via social platforms and to hear you speak on your main goal being to serve the LORD, was a beautiful reminder for me. and to see how your beautiful life has unfolded though the years is amazing. I love that you are a Christian. And I’ve been teaching 10 years too! I started wanting to leave at year 7. When they added 3 high school art classes to my load of 400 elementary students (25 classes), I was DONE. Oh and no pay raise AT ALL, like gave me another teacher’s job with my job (2 workloads) for no raise!! Ugh. And yes girl, we bring all that home. I’ve looked for other teaching positions but either wasn’t the right fit or I just didn’t get the job. I have several other options. I do nails, I am an artist and make paintings and pottery, and also do private art lessons (at my school). So I just need God to show me what to do. But so happy I could you!
This is my 3rd year teaching and I have felt the exact same way. I just recently told my administrators that I will not be returning next year and the weight and fear was immediately taken. I have been working 3 different jobs for the past 3 years just to make it. I know God has more in store for me. Even though this video was two years ago its like you just spoke to me today. I recently quit my job, with much prayer and guidance. I knew with all of my heart God was saying okay. He opened another door but recently the door closed. I've been praying about where to go next. Trusting God is so hard. It's funny because all of this is happening as God has elevated me to a new level, as a leader in my church now . Now I'm a leader in my church and things are happening left from right. At night sometimes I have panic attacks, I fear the worst. But I'm trusting God never the less. In John chapter 6 Phillip was tested, but the word said Jesus already knew what he was going to do. I'm trusting God to work things out for us both because I know he already knows what he's going to do. I can't wait until you come back and tell us about God's goodness through you.

When you said are you crawling or walking .... I realized that I am operating out of fear and worry about taking a pay cut in transitioning careers. After suffering a stroke 3 weeks ago, I know now my 18 years as a teacher will come to an end on December 1st. I’ve been praying because I do enjoy children but I dread work most days the behavior management, planning etc. and actually teaching them. Currently a 3rd year teacher in Detroit and so if I leave teaching what can I do realistically with an elem edu degree?

+Ms Naturally Mary this was so touching. As you spoke I saw myself, my life. I am coming up on my 10th year teaching in January. I have always loved children and I always wanted a career that would allow me to work with them. But Teaching was always been my last career choice. Since I've been education it has been a struggle and I've never fully just loved what I do. I've never felt like its something I do well, tho some would disagree. Like you I've been asking God if this is where He would have me then make plain to me. I don't want to be out of His will in any aspect of my life, but my job can make me so unhappy most of the time.

This is similar to my story. I quit my job as a music educator and stepped out on faith in 2006 to moved from SC to Florida. Although there have been some challenges along this faith walk, God has remained faithful! Looking forward with expectation as to where He leads me next. You just dont know how much this video is blessing me right now. I am in the EXACT same situation as you as a teacher. All year I have resisted quitting in the middle of the year but I am so miserable. I decided to hang on until the end of the year but that is it for me. I just cant do it anymore. I recently told admin that I will not be returning next year even though I have no idea what Im going to do. All I have is a hope and a prayer that God will lead me and bless me for stepping out on faith. Thats why I know that God is using you right now because he knew I needed to hear this. Girl, you are telling my testimony. I quit teaching after almost 5 years the same time that you did. It was rewarding for awhile but so much was happening and I was reaching severe burnout from the pressure of it all. By the grace of God, I started my current job in January and I could not be happier. It pays less, but it is my dream job and it is actually an opportunity that God has been urging me to take for years. It's amazing what God will do when you exercise just even the smallest amount of faith in Him.

I am in my sixth year of teaching and this year has given me the confirmation that I've needed to start focusing on the next chapter. From one Mary to another, this is also my life story, word by word! 20 yrs of teaching and am finding it more and more difficult as each year goes by! Kids have changed soo much, parents, society, in general! We are responsible for a million and one tasks in the classroom and out of it! Love my profession but it's become more and more difficult and draining! You have to be in this profession to really understand how demanding it is! Soo happy that you are close to God, so am I and He is the one who gives me courage! Have about four more yrs to go! Hope I will make it to then, sometimes am uncertain!?! Eugenie Runner I'm less than 6 years. in and I don't know how you made it to 20 years....there's no way I can do this for the rest of my life....it's too much work, pressure and stress...the only way ppl can last for 20+ years is because they started when society was different. to me it's not worth my while. Great video, I have a friend who also quit teaching. This person loved teaching and was very passionate about it, but there s a lot of politics and the bullying some teachers are exposed in some schools (Not in every school, but some) can be unberable. Anyway, you ve got a great channel

Wowwwwww my story exactly! Last year was a very hard year for me also... I cried going to work and leaving work lol it was the worst experience... I left the charter school in February and went to a public school thinking it would be better and it was worst. I resigned in June. I've taught for eight years and year after year i didn't want to do it anymore. In my heart I know I should have my own fashion boutique but I am transitioning into School Counseling. Getting my masters in that while I work as an early intervention teacher which is actually supplemental instruction so it's not a classroom teacher anymore 🙌🏾🙌🏾 and I will do home Instruction...God opened up doors and as I finish my masters and build my finances even more I will open up that boutique and the fashion aspect of my life... God is faithful

Cried at work at the end when you started singing Travis Greene. I was listening to that song this morning on my way to work and I feel stuck as well but I know God will make the next step clear because He brought me into my current role, a job I didn't even know existed and He has kept me. But my heart longs to be creative and I feel barren all the time because I have natural abilities but don't know how to use them/don't want to use them if all they'll bring is self-glorification. Can't wait to see what God does in your life soon!

So funny I just watched your video on why you quit and now I see your comment! I love children, I love teaching, but I am ready to leave the classroom. You both are beautiful and inspirational.
I could only dream of ever feeling like my teaching job was "comfortable" it is the worst thing ever! The students are horribly behaved, the parents are judgmental and mean. I want to quit. But I don't have any other hobbies, and I don't want to go back to school. I want a completely different job with the degree I already have. I've never felt good at being a teacher. I have the best intentions and try to be creative but the students just don't cooperate. My family tells me to go for my masters or for a different concentration in teaching, but why would I keep investing in a field I can't stand anymore? I need someone to point me in the right direction because it's not right to wake up every morning feeling hatred towards some kids, and wanting to cry and stay in bed instead of taking on the day. By the way, I live in the Caribbean and get paid less than half of $50,000. I almost moved to Texas because they offered me exactly that amount, and I considered that to be a huge amount of money. I have no interest in Texas though.

It’s September 30th, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be quitting at the end of first quarter. It’s the start of my 6th year, but I truly just hate teaching. Too much paperwork and not enough appreciation. It’s stressful and I feel guilted into going o work every day because of the unrealistic expectations society has on teachers.
I'm so glad I found this group of people in this new season in my life. All I can do is cry as you speak my life. I can't even believe how I stumbled on this site!! God is amazing!! After 21 years of teaching, the sacrifice necessary for teaching does not add up to the sacrifice of myself or my family. I'm ending week 4 of unemployment. I don't know what's next, But God...#faithwalkin'
Great message... I've been VERY stuck in my life for the past 2 Yrs due to caring for my dad. It's been very hectic caring for my husband son and elderly parent. I too was a teacher ( I feel your frustration and why moving on is necessary) and have been looking for my calling to do what God would have me to due. Great inspiration. Thank you for so much sharing! I’ve followed you and have been a subscriber for a while and never knew your story until now. Happened to be searching videos for transitioning teachers wanting to leave the field. Your story spoke to me on sooooo many levels! May god continue to bless you and your platform. You have inspired me to work at creating a future that will make me happy while utilizing my god given talents. After 14 years, teaching has been exhausting, draining, and just not fun anymore. My mother always says that I am the King’s child and that he owns everything I need. Stepping out on faith is super scary, but I have learned that if you put your trust in him he will always show up on time. This message is life changing. Its 2:38 am EST. I am at the 12 min mark, and will pick up in the am. I am currently a ParaPro and have things in place to transition into teaching. Last year was so ...... I will just say I respect anyone who makes a career, and has the gumption to be a teacher. I go back in a few weeks, and I am dreading it.
God willing January I will transition to another phase. I have never been more stressed and frustrated. I guess part of it is me, and part is the system, but regardless, it has been bad for my health. God bless.

This popped back up on my feed after watching Martha's video recently on how she left the classroom. I've been feeling this same way for the last four years and God keeps telling me to just trust Him and let go of what's not serving me. I aspire to have some of the same things you have via social platforms and to hear you speak on your main goal being to serve the LORD, was a beautiful reminder for me. and to see how your beautiful life has unfolded though the years is amazing. I love that you are a Christian. And I’ve been teaching 10 years too! I started wanting to leave at year 7. When they added 3 high school art classes to my load of 400 elementary students (25 classes), I was DONE. Oh and no pay raise AT ALL, like gave me another teacher’s job with my job (2 workloads) for no raise!! Ugh. And yes girl, we bring all that home. I’ve looked for other teaching positions but either wasn’t the right fit or I just didn’t get the job. I have several other options. I do nails, I am an artist and make paintings and pottery, and also do private art lessons (at my school). So I just need God to show me what to do. But so happy I could you!

This is my 3rd year teaching and I have felt the exact same way. I just recently told my administrators that I will not be returning next year and the weight and fear was immediately taken. I have been working 3 different jobs for the past 3 years just to make it. I know God has more in store for me. Even though this video was two years ago its like you just spoke to me today. This was EXACTLY what I needed to hear to take away the guilt of moving forward. #faithoverfear
I recently quit my job, with much prayer and guidance. I knew with all of my heart God was saying okay. He opened another door but recently the door closed. I've been praying about where to go next. Trusting God is so hard. It's funny because all of this is happening as God has elevated me to a new level, as a leader in my church now . Now I'm a leader in my church and things are happening left from right. At night sometimes I have panic attacks, I fear the worst. But I'm trusting God never the less. In John chapter 6 Phillip was tested, but the word said Jesus already knew what he was going to do. I'm trusting God to work things out for us both because I know he already knows what he's going to do. I can't wait until you come back and tell us about God's goodness through you.

When you said are you crawling or walking .... I realized that I am operating out of fear and worry about taking a pay cut in transitioning careers. I have always loved children and I always wanted a career that would allow me to work with them. But Teaching was always been my last career choice. Since I've been education it has been a struggle and I've never fully just loved what I do. I've never felt like its something I do well, tho some would disagree. Like you I've been asking God if this is where He would have me then make plain to me. I don't want to be out of His will in any aspect of my life, but my job can make me so unhappy most of the time.

I've been a teacher for 12 years now, I just feel burned out. I love teaching, but I think it's enough. It's like been in a relationship, a toxic relationship, it's not healthy to give all of you without the support of the other "people" in that relationship.

This is similar to my story. I quit my job as a music educator and stepped out on faith in 2006 to moved from SC to Florida. Although there have been some challenges along this faith walk, God has remained faithful! Looking forward with expectation as to where He leads me next. Keep the faith....and continue to listen, trust, and obey. TFS!

I need to step out, but I don't think I hear/see Jesus yet. I know He's working. I know He'll show Himself to me soon. Funny thing, I was going to go into education too. I've been working in after school programs for a while and I wanted to make that jump to full time teaching, but lately I stopped thinking it was the right choice. I'll keep praying though!

Mary to break free from fear do you remember watching cartoons as a child. The cat chasing the mouse's and the mouse casting his shadow on the wall and how big his little shadow. appear.Thats fear the big shadow, look down at the little mouse's and step on your fear. Pastor spoke on that and that's the way he explain it. That moment I let go of fear in every area of my life. God took it I don't walk in fear. Be set free my child. Thank U for moving forward
