I believe that our maiden is the one we meet at the festival, and ultimately can be purchased from a certain asshole sorcerer near Ranni's rise.
I’m pretty sure the item description for that puppet addresses this, and kind of interesting she is not the players maiden. Just kind of like a mirror to player, a maiden without a tarnished, and a tarnished without a maiden, but not belonging to one another

It's obviously Godrick who sent a Grafted Scion to kill both us and the maiden at the start of the game, he's literally the only guy there besides you two, you really think he's just there for no reason? It's not that complicated guys
Iirc, dialogue in the test version indicated that Varre wanted to the the Tarnished's Maiden, or at least a Maiden.

@@ryzekiv7147 They apparently meant for him to be some variety of hinted LGBT+, at least. Though whether that was transgender, non-binary, gay, or gender non-conforming.
Maidens in Elden Ring are basically sworn to an individual, so it could have even just been they wanted to portray him as being completely desperate for an solid, undeniable, (arguably codependent) relationship.
Either way, it feels like a bit of a loss they didn't keep it as an alternative route where certain choices would end up with him fulfilling the functions.

I honestly kind of like Varre. Yeah, he's a piece of shit, but he doesn't pretend not to be. Plus, he gets you early access to the Albinuriac Farm, and you get a lot of cool stuff in his quest. And THEN you get to kill him and get his silly weapon. The only thing I didn't like was having to do the 3 invasions, but I've heard they made it possible to do offline with an NPC with the last patch, so I think that's the route I'm going on NG+3, just started it.

I think the churches maiden was slain by the invader just at the entrance since ta know 3 finger madness. For the player i think the issue is there are no maidens left (just look outside) and torrent leads an exiled maiden to help us
All evidence pointing to Varre is circumstantial at best. He knows you don’t have a maiden because you walk up to him and you don’t have a maiden with you. And I can’t think of ANY other reason this character might have BLOOD on his hands…yeah, screw that. This guy probably bathes in the stuff. Also, it doesn’t really make sense for him to do so because the ritual he wants the player to perform involves killing one’s own maiden, meaning that it’s supposed to be undertaken with maidens alive and well. I Personally I think it was the grafted scion skulking about the area. Much like Oscar and the Asylum demon.
I've killed him every time I start a new game plus. Now I feel like it's a have to thing from now on.

My theory is that Seluvis killed her. I do not know the reason why he killed her, but it is possible that he was told to or he just did it because he wanted to. But the reason why I believe it is Seluvis is that he has a puppet named Finger Maiden Therolina. I got a hold of the spirit ash item, and read its description and it was very interesting.
"One of Seluvis's puppets.
Use to summon the spirit of the Finger Maiden Therolina.
Spirit of Finger Maiden who never met the Tarnished she was
meant to guide. Uses healing incantations and Holy Water Pots,
but she is not a fighter by nature and is ill-suited to battle.

And yet no guide to bring them together."
Now since she is a "Spirit", it's only right to assume she is dead. And notice how it says" Finger Maiden who never met the Tarnished she was meant to guide. A Maiden without a Tarnished. A Tarnished without a Maiden." Now, as far as we know, the player character is the only Tarnished to not have a Finger Maiden so it is likely that it refers to us as the Tarnished in the description which makes her our Finger Maiden. There is more proof as well, I summoned the Finger Maiden Spirit Ash and compared her looks with the Maiden in the Chapel of Inhibition(starting area) and they looked strikingly similar, if not identical. This is why I hate Seluvis so much, this piece of sh*t straight-up killed our Finger Maiden and made her a puppet so he can do some nasty stuff with her. And he has so many other puppets as well. SO that's why it is likely that it is Seluvis who killed her.
Small issue, you encounter that maiden as a summon for the starscourge radahn fight.
@@yourusualsevagoth863 i did more research and she was already made a puppet before the Radahn Festival. If u did the Seluvis questline, and you go into Seluvis' basement, you can actually see that she was made a puppet way before the Radahn Festival. It is likely that Seluvis sent her to help us out, since she can heal us. The reason to why he sent her? He probably was told to help by Ranni or something. Another reason why she is likely a puppet is that she doesn't speak at all, and as far as I know, puppets don't really speak and they do what they are told to do. If she was a living NPC, she would've said something at least, since nearly all NPCs say something.
@@Bwainy ya you’re reaching for straws. Your literally pissed off at a scummy npc for another npc being maidenless. Nothing in game or out of game states that his puppet was to be our maiden. It is far more likely that our maiden was killed by someone or something other than seluvis so this theory is pretty bunk…
His hands being covered in blood is a coincidence, he wears the war sergeon outfit, which we can get after killing one of the orher war surgeons in the mohgwyn dynasty, it also has bloodstains on the gloves, cuz the war surgeons are addicted to bloodletting

It was done with a golden dagger. And as we know, the only wielder of a golden dagger is Melena. So that she could begin her purpose as a maiden. Our maiden.

War surgeons are mercy killers, and are sent by mogh to gather blood.

I agree with everyone that melana did it because it makes sense. She randomly appears wants to be your maiden for her purpose and guides you to commit a sin and burn the tree. She meets you almost at the start. I think she is the evil one and either hired him or did it herself. Why else would she go to some random dude she offered torrant to?

This is what I thought of too. But from what I've gathered with item info and doing two different quests. That maiden is not ours, she is actually is the maiden of the tarnished who bares the Fingerprint amor set. She was killed right after her tarnished chose to abandon his grace in order to save her rather then let her burn. 😭 All I can say is if you want to know more just look closely at the npc invader, and keep an eye out on the mountain top of giants.

The penalty’s are you can’t get the bloodly finger or varres flowers (the weapon he fights you with ) and you get 5 invasion fingers also you can’t get to mohg until you get to the snowfields
