I woke up this morning, April 11 2023, hearing the word Imbeni in my Spirit. I remembered that years ago, I used to listen to a song with that lyric in it, but I could not remember more than a couple words from it, and did not know what Imbeni meant. Turns out it is the Swahili word meaning "SING", and after much searching I finally found the song by the group First Call. It's Called "O TSIFUNI MUNGO"!
I'm just in love with this song! The choir did excellent and I can't find any flaws besides the second soloist was a little early on the second pazeni and the last soloist was a little late at the end. All in all, I love this song and this choir; I can't stop replaying this song!
I sang this in a friend's graduate conducting recital! She had us forgo the music and sing this from memory at the last minute. This brought a smile to my face since the recital was one of my happier memories.
I love this song. We did this last year for our Spring concert. There was about 300 choir students wrapped around the auditorium. This is a very fun song.
I did this my 7th and 8th grade year and it sounds just as good as this. Maybe even better. I'm a junior now and I'm trying to get our choir director to let us sing it
My 8th grade choir is singing this! I think were doing a more simple version though, since were younger you know. I just auditioned for some of these solos today actually! Your choir has a really good balance. You know kids in middle school choirs... how no one but that one kid in each section *cough* ME *cough* sings so theres just like.... four kids singing. So anyways great job!
@nicocorzi Good luck getting it in Spanish. The main two languages of most of Africa is Swahili and English. The composers wanted the audience to hear the same song in English and Swahili together expressing the same thing.
i love this song. i did it sometime in my middle school years and im doing it again this year. this time, my choir director is trying to change the words so that they seem 'all-inclusive.' i disagree completely with her decision, and i hope she changes her mind.
Our choir is doing this song for our concert, but we aren't half as good as you guys, especially since our choir has about 35 girls and exactly 5 guys, one of which is never louder than a mouse.
These guys rocked it. Is there a deep voice near the end? It sounds like the choir belched a little. That sound is mesmerizing. I wish I had it like that. That's super low and so full of body. I can't believe that sound can be projected like that. I guess it's a bosso profundo? I just heard of Oktavist. That's some low stuff. Sounds amazing. This song rocks!
Not bad, my high school choir is doing this for Chorus 1 and 2... Not half bad... Although, the vowel placement could be MUCH better.... It has to be AUTHENTIC and swahili has clean vowels... the other thing is your soloists, very nice voices however, they sounded nasaly and could also use work... And the feeling(emotion) is wayyyy to rehearsed.... Most of them look as though they dont want to be there... :P Not bad though!!! :D We were told to use this to help with our voice parts...
The spirit of the Lord
the soloists killed it my gosh!
I'm singing this in my choir class.

I did it with my high school Concert Choir back in my sophomore year. Best song yet I think. And that's not saying much

why are there piano chords? Is it because the choir goes out of tune?...
homework anyone?
We sang this 2 years ago in the seventh grade and our vowels sounded better. That is sad because this is a highschool choir
