Disability parking pass, plate holders need to pay for metered parking unless you have a new permit

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Starting July 1, 2021, people with disability parking passes or license plates will need to pay for metered parking unless you were approved for the new Disability Paid Parking Exemption Permit.

Are they going to send letters out to all holders to let them know of this change???? If they are not told, how would they know????? It's this a federal law???? Can the city just ignore it just because they need money????? All it is, is a money making scam.

Some places hand out handicapped placards like candy. Where I live, pretty much everyone over 70 has one. There are never enough handicapped spots in parking lots because so many have it. On the flip side, just because you have a disability, it does not mean that you are incapable of holding a job and earning a good income. Why should everyone with any kind of disability get free parking? My husband has a couple of wheelchair bound co-workers that make six figures. They can more then afford to pay for parking. Just because someone has a handicapped placard, does not make them too poor to pay the couple of bucks for parking.

when my doctor signed for my handicap placard he told me that I had earned it. This was after chemo for cancer and and extension blood clot in my right leg that the medical professionals did not catch in time for it not to cause permanent damage.
