I thought it was more like Birdo hating Wario and Waluigi because she thinks of them as ugly. The handful of times Birdo has had a speaking part, she always came off as a kind of superficial character. Kind of stuck-up and convinced she's too good for every man that doesn't catch her eye, but threatened by girls who might be considered prettier or cuter than her, hence why she dislikes Peach and aged-up Tiny. As for Blooper, well, in keeping with this stereotypical stuck-up girl theory I've got, she probably just hates live squids cuz they're slimy, sticky, and slithery, and the ink ruins pretty clothes and stuff.
I thought it might have been a dislike of Birdo...uh...crossdressing or possibly being trans (the Japanese, American, and European localisations vary on this stance even between games). But I'm glad it's a little light-hearted than that 😅.
This would be the best D&D game ever I should run it by the homies and since they always get bootie blasted I don't believe in setting music and find if cringe, just for this game, system of a down old-school Hollywood baseball lol
Yeah, team composition, line up and position HEAVILY relies on chemistry chains. In fact, pro players actually use Miis to keep a chemistry chain going because in Sluggers, having good chemistry allows you to get an item while batting, and the difference between a good chemistry throw and a bad one is very large (a bad throw can not only make you possibly miss the ball entirely, but also is slow enough that you can steal the next base and make it reliably). This is the reason Diddy usually isn't set as Captain because he doesn't link with any Mii, making him nearly impossible to make a good line with. Same for Wario and Waluigi, who have very restricted lines and thus are usually put first and last to take what little advantage they can of using them. Despite being arbitrary, it makes enough of a difference that it's kind of shocking how much attention you have to pay to it.
6:19 Diddy Kong and Goomba being friends is in fact, not weird. If you collect Goomba as an ally whilst using Diddy Kong, you get special dialogue: "We may be small, but we step up when it counts!" Note that this does not work both ways.
It's weird how inconsistent the chemistry system is with relationships that have been revealed here and elsewhere. I'll be referring to the chemistry list from _Super Sluggers_ only, since it's the most up-to-date one we have. Toadette is stated in at least one game or manual (I don't remember which) to have an odd friendship with Wario, but that's very much not reflected here. It _would_ make sense for Wario and Toad to be rivals, since Toad took Wario down in _Wario's Woods_ . Birdo and Peach not getting along is also a little strange to me, since Birdo was Peach's decoy at the start of _Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga_ (this is revealed midway through the game), but after this Birdo kinda just goes off and does her own thing. It's also interesting that Peach and Birdo share a chemistry "bridge" in the form of Toadette and Daisy. So even though Peach and Birdo aren't good together _directly_ , they _can_ still good be on the same team. Bowser's bad chemistry list is a whopping 12 entries long. Oddly Baby DK and Baby Daisy are on the list, but DK and Daisy are not. I guess _Mario Parties 5_ through _7_ helped Bowser and DK chill out? No idea what's going with him and Daisy. Dry Bones have bad chemistry with Luigi and Dixie, but also Baby Peach and Baby Daisy. Not Baby Luigi, and not adult Peach or adult Daisy. Weird. Koopa Troopas have no bad chemistry at all with anyone. I guess they really are just doing their jobs in the other games. Give them wings, however, and they gain bad chemistry with just one character - Toadsworth.
It's possible that Birdo and Peach have bad chemistry as some kind of reference to Super Mario Bros. 2, although it would be odd to single her out and not include Mario, Luigi or Toad in that. Also, Dixie Kong's negative chemistry with Dry Bones is due to Challenge Mode - Dark Bones holds Dixie Kong captive and you have to rescue her by beating it in a mission. It's also why Daisy has bad chemistry with Hammer Bro., because he turned her into a statue in Challenge Mode.
With Bowser and Daisy, I can see them being on relatively good terms, though it's out of fear for Bowser's end. After all, Daisy has kicked his butt hard for him trying to kidnap her once.
Toadette's modern depiction also makes her the Mario series equivalent to Warioware Wario, so perhaps the two share a similar relationship to hostile capitalists: they share ethics, which makes them allies in a room debating ethics, but also they knowingly predate on the same psychology, so they know only one of them can succeed in the shark-eat-shark world of business.
Baby Luigi might be because he hasn't developed a specific dislike for the undead yet, he just hates boo right now because they pull pranks on him, since they like picking on crybabies. The princesses maybe just realized over time that the dry bones are basically cursed to be like that, so they aren't upset about them taking roaming castles? Idk it's the best I can come up with. Also with Bowser, it's probably just that all the babies hate him because of his appearance in Yoshi's Island DS, but the adults have all moved on/forgotten that and hate him for the things he does right now instead, which DK and Daisy don't particularly care about.
Headcannnon: Dixie Kong dislike Dry Bones because they make her remember Kackle, the ghost skeleton pirate that terrorizes Haunted Halls in DKC2, as for Tiny Kong disliking Birdo, I guess Birdo reminds Tiny Kong of Kalypso, her rival in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast.
At some point, Miyamoto silently, Thanos snapped a bunch of characters in the mario universe. This is why Toadsworth hasn't reappeared in years despite making fairly regular apprances across gc, ds, and wii outside of remakes/ports of games he appears in.
there's only one more game he's in and playable (yet unlockable). he's in Yakuman DS, a Mario Mahjong game in japan. He's even the hardest dude to beat. Add Mahjong champion to Toadsworth list of accomplishments
Birdo has always been a HUGE diva. This was especially noted in the Mario Strikers series. Her hatred towards Tiny Kong and Peach are likely because they’re seen as threats to her and her need for all the attention.
Bingo, that's more or less it. Has to do with cultural standards than anything. Birdo's also much older than Peach (think like Snooty villagers in Animal Crossing, she's a middle aged woman) and in Japan, being a middle aged woman is practically a death sentence in entertainment industry. (not so much in the West though), so how you see Birdo really depends on what side of the globe you're on.
I think the reason why Toad's chemistry with peach is higher is not because toad loves peach more but because Toad is Conscripted to serve Peach. Toad is basically a Knight.
Toadette actually has a pretty strong reasoning for her poor relationships with Bowser and Wario specifically. She's actually gone on record to be against unionized workers. I'm not joking. This makes their negative relationships make sense, because while both Bowser and Wario aren't exactly nice, they treat their workers well. Bowser can be mean, but does rescue and give his minions 2nd chances even after betrayal. Wario's genuine friends with all of the employees of his microgames company. So there is a reasonable canon explanation for their hatred of each other
Yeah, I never really expected _Super Mario Maker 2_ of all games to have important lore for Toadette. No wonder why Toad Factory was never seen again. She probably ran that place into the ground.

It's probably because both DK and Peaty go completely commando except for a single article of clothing and nobody finds it weird. For a slightly more serious answer, it's probably because they both vaguely resemble the other's usual diet.

This makes the most sense. Birdo doesn’t see Dixie or Daisy as threats because one is a literal monkey and the other is tomboyish. Meanwhile Peach and Tiny are both beautiful and curvaceous so she sees them as threats.
I like to think it’s like he understands that he’s just helping out his brother and that it’s just a matter of circumstances they personally aren’t rivals but they go against each other often due to his actual rival

I would expect it to be neutral because even tho Donkey Kong has kidnapped her multiple times at the end of those games she’s shown to be kind to him like offering him one of the toys of the end of Mario vs Donkey Kong or taking a picture with him at the end of the gb game
My guess is Pauline is neutral to all of the Kongs except for Cranky, which would be negative since he kidnapped her when he was younger and went by the Donkey Kong name.

What is also funny is that Wario doesn’t have bad chemistry with Luigi and Waluigi doesn’t have bad chemistry with Mario. I mean yeah they aren’t their main rivals but they don’t like them either really. So they really should have bad chemistry with them too.
King Boo and Petey Piranha having chemistry with each other appears to reference how they were partners in Mario Kart Double Dash (You forgot to mention that) and it is also likely because they are both the rulers of their kind, Boos for King Boo and Piranha Plants for Petey Piranha (Mario Party Superstars confirms this) them being partners in Mario Kart Double Dash is also referenced in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe where Petey Piranha is King Boo’s rival and King Boo is Petey Piranha’s rival. That is especially notable because initially for 5 years before Petey Piranha was added in the Booster Course Pass, King Boo was one of only 4 characters without rivals (with the other 3 being Lakitu, Link, and Mii) making King Boo the only character to have a DLC character as a rival. (On a quick note I am pretty sure King K Rool and King Boo were only given chemistry with each other because they both have “King” in their names and are the only characters in Mario Super Sluggers to have “King” in their names as well)
If we're bringing up Japanese names, then I would like to point out that Bowser's name in the Japanese version is just King Koopa. So, he is another character with "King" in his name.

Additionally the name Bowser has been occasionally been referenced in the Japanese versions of Mario games such as Mario Kart Wii where the Flame Runner is called the Super Bowser in Japanese. Which is proof that his full name in all versions of the Mario games is Bowser Koopa.

This is probably just a HUGE stretch, but In DKC2, the first game Dixie appears in, there’s an enemy that appears in one level called “Kackle”, who is a skeletal Kremling. You know who else is a skeletal Reptile? Dry Bones. VERY huge stretch, but plus, Kackle is also a ghost, but it’s still neat to theorize.
Wario and Waluigi having good chemistry with Boo and Magikoopa might be due to how all four are considered tricksters. Wario and Waluigi being mischievous, Boo becoming invisible, and Magikoopa's magic tricks.
Bowser and King K. Rool both disliking each other makes a lot of sense. They are both evil, power-hungry tyrants who both want to take over the world(or maybe just DK island in K. Rool’s case), so their two dominating personalities would naturally clash with each other.
As far as King Boo and K. Rool having good chemistry, the only thing I can think of is the fact they both have crowns and dress more “kingly” compared to Bowser.
Adding more to Bowser & K. Rool's negative chemistry, the former has a consistent character trait of teaming up with his lifelong nemesis should a more dangerous villain appear while the latter is more psychotic and relentlessly tortures the Kongs. Remember, even villain characters have moral standards. King Boo & K. Rool having positive chemistry makes sense when you see the former's monstrous and psychotic actions in the Luigi's Mansion games.
Bowser doesn't get along with everyone except for his son and his minions I mean he even dislikes his baby self and his paper counterpart in the mario and luigi series when they first met

I always found this system to be so interesting. It gives us small insight into how well these characters get along with each other since they don't really have any meaningful interactions most of the time
birdo's beef with peach is likely a nod to strikers charged where one of peach's losing animations has her and birdo basically fighting, diva vs diva kind of thing
There is also the fact that She disguised as Peach in Superstar Saga to fool Cackletta, but later on she was defeated because of her falling in love with Popple, and she might blame peach for the ordeal of having to deal with the bros. 😂

I'm not an expert or even a novice in Mario lore, but I am an indie game dev I assume the "random" decisions aren't much more than balancing choices Having a bunch of brilliantly compatible players with the best stats would make a meta that's rigid, and people would probably not mix and match with different, more interesting teams
The chemistry system unironically doesn’t get Toadette. The Party games show that she actually gets along well with a lot of the in-universe less like characters, notably Mario Party 6 establishing that she’s friends with Wario.
My head canon for Birdo's bad chemistry chart is her envy of the pretty girly girls like Peach, Baby Peach and Tiny, they effortlessly seem to get the attention, meanwhile Daisy and Toadette come across as more spunky, friendly and carefree therefore they would accept Birdo as a friend.
Love how out of all people the person who Bowser hates the most is Toadette. Not Mario, the guy who keeps kicking his ass, but this random Toad girl who at this point has never appeared in the mainline games.
My guess, he loathes and respects Mario as his rival, while with Toadette, Bowser may not stand others that treat their workers so poorly like Toadette does, and he hates Toads, so she may have no redeeming qualities in his eyes
In my opinion, "bad chemistry" could very well be a one-sided dislike sometimes. The characters disliking one another back might be a limitation of the system. See: Bowser and Peach. Obviously, Bowser doesn't hate Princess Peach, but the princess hasn't forgotten all the crap she'd had to put up with, so she doesn't like him. As for Birdo here's my two cents on the matter: Birdo dislikes Wario and Waluigi because she finds them ugly. She dislike Peach and Tiny Kong because she's _jealous_ of them, all pretty and dainty. Finally, she might hate Bloopers because she's disgusted by squids. It doesn't have to be a clear cut reference, it could just be a general vibe. Dixie Kong is scared of skeletons, so she doesn't like Dry Bones. Donkey Kong is fine with jungle carnivorous plants, so Petey is A-OK in his book.
I always thought the reasoning for Diddy Kong and Goomba is that they're both frequently underestimated and written off by those around them as weaker versions of other options. Even if Diddy did manage to prove he's more than just DK's sidekick by the end of DKC2, he and Goomba probably still see each other as kindred spirits. Heck, the Goombas probably see him as an inspiration for proving the naysayers (mostly Cranky) wrong and becoming a hero
Bowser not getting along with K. Rool makes sense, because Bowser doesn't get along with any major villain - he's far too dedicated with being the Number One Final Boss that he cannot even get along with another version of himself without both parties wanting to backstab each other.
I don't know about most of these, but if I had to guess why Birdo doesn't like Blooper, it might be because Blooper is a squid that squirts ink, and Birdo is a pink dinosaur who wears a red bow. So it's probably a bit of the stereotypical "Girls hate anything slimy or icky". Or Birdo doesn't like that Blooper squirts ink everywhere because it would get into her bow (i.e. into her hair).
Here's something that's pretty weird: In Sluggers, Baby Peach of all characters has the most good chemistry of any character in the game, sharing good chemistry with a total of not 1, not 2, not even 3, but *17* characters! Why her out of anyone in the entire game? The world may never know.
Toadette and Bowser's bad chemistry being SO specifically high in the first Baseball game also ties to the fact Bowser actually cares for his army and troops in various instances, while Toadette since her debut has been staunchly higher on the totem pole than Toads and knows it, even being anti-union in Mario Maker 2 and seeing Paper Toads as free workforce in Paper Jam.
King K. Rool may have a bad relationship with Bowser because while Bowser treats his subordinates well, King K. Rool constantly endangers his subordinates. Meanwhile, King Boo likes King K. Rool because, as previously mentioned, King K. Rool constantly endangers his subordinates. King Boo is likely gaining more subordinates who have died from K. Rool's incompetence.

Birdo and peach not getting along might have to do with a plot point in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, where Birdo was disguised as Peach and got her voice stolen at the start of the game instead of peach.

She knew what she was getting into because Peasley told everyone in advance and Birdo even played her part perfectly. The only thing she clearly hates in that game is people messing with her love life considering how angry she gets if you defeat Popple first and after he fires her for losing.

When I discovered Goomba and Pianta hating each other while playing Sluggers, It’s really bizarre to me since Goomvas never really appeared in Mario Sunshine. I guess it might be because that they look like Strolling Stus.
Bowser and K Rool not getting along ia kind of funny. I guess the main issue here is they are both so used to being in charge neither one can stand to be with someone who will give them orders. But King Boo and K Rool are chill, maybe K Rool and King Boo fancy themselves as more cerebral and sophisticated royals and K Rool sees Bowser as a borish brute who isn't regal enough to be a king on his level. It could also be that they see each other as a threat since they both rule over reptiles and could aspire to rule each other's subjects and land.
Maybe Wario and Waluigi used to be friends with Birdo when she was still a villain? But then they had a falling out after Birdo started getting chummy with the good guys 😂
I like Wario and Waluigi’s respective friendships with Boo and Magikoopa. •Boo is often used for stealing (steals items in Mario Kart and steals coins/stars in Mario Party), so a greedy treasure hunter like Wario would love to have him on his side. •Magikoopa has plenty of magic tricks that a sneaky cheater like Waluigi would love to get away with using in an otherwise fair game.
Yet Bowser and K. Rool hate each other. My guess is Bowser is a stubborn greedy leader who doesn’t want to share his kingdom, but why would King K. Rool hate Bowser? Simply reciprocating the feeling?

As a fan of Dinger City, I'm proud to say I already knew all the synergies and anti-synergies. Also, the Miis thing is a bug. It has to do with the variable set for Mii color preference - Diddy SHOULD like the brown-shirted Mii, but alas, it doesn't work.
Can't explain Tiny Kong, but the reason Birdo dislikes Peach is a reference to Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, in which Birdo was acting as a stand-in for Princess Peach and gets cursed by Cackletta. I could see someone holding disdain for another for that reason.
One thing I thought of about the rivalry between Peach and Birdo is because Peach was one of the “heroes” in Super Mario 2 that actually fought against Wart’s goons, including Birdo, herself. As for the rivalry between Bowser and King K. Rool is…”There can only be one king!” King Boo doesn’t seem to mind K. Rool simply because they never fought. Sure, King Boo might be another underling of Bowser, but he’s never been in K. Rool’s way.
All the dk and peaty things I can think of. They both wear one clothing article. They both were intro as an enemy to mario on a high area. mario has to climb up to them and avoid rolling/bouncing projectiles on the way. Neither speaks. They're both large.
I remember how in the Mario party games, Toadette seems to have an oddly *good* relationship with the Wario Bros, with team names like “diabolical friends” or “secret friends.” I don’t remember if those games came before or after the baseball titles, but maybe they just had a falling out/made up at some point? Or maybe they work better together under rules of luck and not fairness.
Ok this one is really niche and you have least to watch the game to maybe connect the dots, but this is the theory I come up for the relationship between Toadette and Waluigi. But both are musical enthusiasts and both can be found in the Game Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix. Both characters can be found in that games, Toadette as an stubborn toad even if the world end and Waluigi as the great vilain of the game, so maybe they don't really appreciate each other since this game.
As a kid, Donkey Kong and Petey Piranha being friends made perfect sense to me. They're both massive animalistic foes of Mario who mellowed out and became his friend in the subsequent years. As an adult, I feel like it's probably just something to do with balancing two powerful hitters. I like my childhood explanation much better.
Never even knew this was a thing. I always just made teams with my favorite characters. My teams would have characters like yoshis, toads, noki, pianta, red paratroopa specifically, paragoomba, hammer bro, etc. I love playable NPC characters or playable enemies
Though a little strange with Peach it's we take in account Mario and Luigi Superstars, were Birdo go to great length to help Peach(I don't enter of details for spoilers) We'll Birdo can be that friend is problematic and completive but the first to help you when you need with Peach
One of my favorite bits of chemistry is Petey having good relations with King Boo since they were partners in Mario Kart: Double Dash. It’s this odd friendship that has been referenced as recently as Petey’s addition to the Booster Course Pass
I dunno, I don’t think the chemistry is a like/dislike chart but a “who can work best in teams with who” chart. Naturally obviously some that don’t like each other don’t work well in teams, but others in this list make little to no sense, both in the GC and Wii games, like Peach having bad chemistry with Petey in the original, and then Petey even being on her team on Wii and having no negative chemistry. I mainly say this because I don’t think characters like Bowser and K. Rool hate each other lol, they probs just can’t work well together but I like to HC them as “enemy of my enemy is my friend” type beat lol
They likely see each other as equally powerful, making the other king a threat to their power, and vice versa. Both seek to assert dominance, and neither is willing to give in. This can be corroborated by how cunning King K. Rool is, and Bowser isn’t far behind. They would naturally mistrust each other.

Birdo hates Peach because of how they faced off in SMB2.
Birdo’s Chemistry Daisy- Birdo and Daisy actually have a good friendship as seen in Mario tennis 64 and fortune Street. Toadette- Both first playable appearance was Mario kart double dash, in which they were introduced as the female counterparts of toad and yoshi Peach- Stems from envy in super Mario advance and in saga where her voice was stolen and birdo often talks about being treated like a princess. Tiny Kong- In this game, one of birdos flaws is being able to hit curves, and tiny Kong was one of the best curves in the game. Petey- both bosses in M&L and both have unassigned genders in some countries. Ngl birdo has one of the best chemistry sets, she links the good guys to the bad guys.
my best guess for Birdo's spite towards Tiny Kong is that there can't be two bad bitches on one team so they form an on-the-spot rivalry if they ever get paired up
The Mii thing is because of Diddy being the meanest character on the roster. If anyone was as cold-hearted as to dislike every single Mii, it would be Diddy Kong.
The reason why Peach and Birdo have bad chemistry is because of a cutscene in Mario Strikers, if you choose Peach and Birdo in the same team they argue in the losing animation in that case iirc.
Maybe Wario and Waluigi liking Boo and Magikoopa is a Mario Party reference? Given Wario and Waluigi's preference toward foul play, it'd make sense that they're regulars of characters who'd give an upper hand, like Magikoopa and *especially* Boo.
I've wanted Mario baseball to come back for so long specifically for it's large roster and having a story mode before it became common in sports games. Learning there was a chemistry system this whole only makes me want a new title even more, though modern Mario sports games make me cautious of it.
The reason for Wario and Waluigi hating Birdo might be because Birdo helped Toad defeat Wario in Wario Woods.

I thought it was more like Birdo hating Wario and Waluigi because she thinks of them as ugly. The handful of times Birdo has had a speaking part, she always came off as a kind of superficial character. Kind of stuck-up and convinced she's too good for every man that doesn't catch her eye, but threatened by girls who might be considered prettier or cuter than her, hence why she dislikes Peach and aged-up Tiny. As for Blooper, well, in keeping with this stereotypical stuck-up girl theory I've got, she probably just hates live squids cuz they're slimy, sticky, and slithery, and the ink ruins pretty clothes and stuff.
Then why don't they hate Toad?
I thought it might have been a dislike of Birdo...uh...crossdressing or possibly being trans (the Japanese, American, and European localisations vary on this stance even between games).

Yeah, team composition, line up and position HEAVILY relies on chemistry chains. In fact, pro players actually use Miis to keep a chemistry chain going because in Sluggers, having good chemistry allows you to get an item while batting, and the difference between a good chemistry throw and a bad one is very large (a bad throw can not only make you possibly miss the ball entirely, but also is slow enough that you can steal the next base and make it reliably). This is the reason Diddy usually isn't set as Captain because he doesn't link with any Mii, making him nearly impossible to make a good line with. Same for Wario and Waluigi, who have very restricted lines and thus are usually put first and last to take what little advantage they can of using them. Despite being arbitrary, it makes enough of a difference that it's kind of shocking how much attention you have to pay to it.

It's weird how inconsistent the chemistry system is with relationships that have been revealed here and elsewhere. I'll be referring to the chemistry list from _Super Sluggers_ only, since it's the most up-to-date one we have.
Toadette is stated in at least one game or manual (I don't remember which) to have an odd friendship with Wario, but that's very much not reflected here. It _would_ make sense for Wario and Toad to be rivals, since Toad took Wario down in _Wario's Woods_ .
Birdo and Peach not getting along is also a little strange to me, since Birdo was Peach's decoy at the start of _Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga_ (this is revealed midway through the game), but after this Birdo kinda just goes off and does her own thing. It's also interesting that Peach and Birdo share a chemistry "bridge" in the form of Toadette and Daisy. So even though Peach and Birdo aren't good together _directly_ , they _can_ still good be on the same team.
Bowser's bad chemistry list is a whopping 12 entries long. Oddly Baby DK and Baby Daisy are on the list, but DK and Daisy are not. I guess _Mario Parties 5_ through _7_ helped Bowser and DK chill out? No idea what's going with him and Daisy.
Dry Bones have bad chemistry with Luigi and Dixie, but also Baby Peach and Baby Daisy. Not Baby Luigi, and not adult Peach or adult Daisy. Weird.
Koopa Troopas have no bad chemistry at all with anyone. I guess they really are just doing their jobs in the other games.
Give them wings, however, and they gain bad chemistry with just one character - Toadsworth.
It's possible that Birdo and Peach have bad chemistry as some kind of reference to Super Mario Bros. 2, although it would be odd to single her out and not include Mario, Luigi or Toad in that.
Also, Dixie Kong's negative chemistry with Dry Bones is due to Challenge Mode - Dark Bones holds Dixie Kong captive and you have to rescue her by beating it in a mission. It's also why Daisy has bad chemistry with Hammer Bro., because he turned her into a statue in Challenge Mode.
With Bowser and Daisy, I can see them being on relatively good terms, though it's out of fear for Bowser's end. After all, Daisy has kicked his butt hard for him trying to kidnap her once.
Toadette's modern depiction also makes her the Mario series equivalent to Warioware Wario, so perhaps the two share a similar relationship to hostile capitalists: they share ethics, which makes them allies in a room debating ethics, but also they knowingly predate on the same psychology, so they know only one of them can succeed in the shark-eat-shark world of business.

Baby Luigi might be because he hasn't developed a specific dislike for the undead yet, he just hates boo right now because they pull pranks on him, since they like picking on crybabies. The princesses maybe just realized over time that the dry bones are basically cursed to be like that, so they aren't upset about them taking roaming castles? Idk it's the best I can come up with.
Also with Bowser, it's probably just that all the babies hate him because of his appearance in Yoshi's Island DS, but the adults have all moved on/forgotten that and hate him for the things he does right now instead, which DK and Daisy don't particularly care about.

At some point, Miyamoto silently, Thanos snapped a bunch of characters in the mario universe. This is why Toadsworth hasn't reappeared in years despite making fairly regular apprances across gc, ds, and wii outside of remakes/ports of games he appears in.
there's only one more game he's in and playable (yet unlockable). he's in Yakuman DS, a Mario Mahjong game in japan. He's even the hardest dude to beat. Add Mahjong champion to Toadsworth list of accomplishments

Birdo has always been a HUGE diva. This was especially noted in the Mario Strikers series. Her hatred towards Tiny Kong and Peach are likely because they’re seen as threats to her and her need for all the attention.
Bingo, that's more or less it. Has to do with cultural standards than anything. Birdo's also much older than Peach (think like Snooty villagers in Animal Crossing, she's a middle aged woman) and in Japan, being a middle aged woman is practically a death sentence in entertainment industry. (not so much in the West though), so how you see Birdo really depends on what side of the globe you're on.

This makes their negative relationships make sense, because while both Bowser and Wario aren't exactly nice, they treat their workers well. Bowser can be mean, but does rescue and give his minions 2nd chances even after betrayal. Wario's genuine friends with all of the employees of his microgames company. So there is a reasonable canon explanation for their hatred of each other

My guess is Pauline is neutral to all of the Kongs except for Cranky, which would be negative since he kidnapped her when he was younger and went by the Donkey Kong name.

King Boo and Petey Piranha having chemistry with each other appears to reference how they were partners in Mario Kart Double Dash (You forgot to mention that) and it is also likely because they are both the rulers of their kind, Boos for King Boo and Piranha Plants for Petey Piranha (Mario Party Superstars confirms this) them being partners in Mario Kart Double Dash is also referenced in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe where Petey Piranha is King Boo’s rival and King Boo is Petey Piranha’s rival. That is especially notable because initially for 5 years before Petey Piranha was added in the Booster Course Pass, King Boo was one of only 4 characters without rivals (with the other 3 being Lakitu, Link, and Mii) making King Boo the only character to have a DLC character as a rival. (On a quick note I am pretty sure King K Rool and King Boo were only given chemistry with each other because they both have “King” in their names and are the only characters in Mario Super Sluggers to have “King” in their names as well)

If we're bringing up Japanese names, then I would like to point out that Bowser's name in the Japanese version is just King Koopa. So, he is another character with "King" in his name.

Additionally the name Bowser has been occasionally been referenced in the Japanese versions of Mario games such as Mario Kart Wii where the Flame Runner is called the Super Bowser in Japanese. Which is proof that his full name in all versions of the Mario games is Bowser Koopa.

This is probably just a HUGE stretch, but In DKC2, the first game Dixie appears in, there’s an enemy that appears in one level called “Kackle”, who is a skeletal Kremling. You know who else is a skeletal Reptile? Dry Bones. VERY huge stretch, but plus, Kackle is also a ghost, but it’s still neat to theorize.

Bowser and King K. Rool both disliking each other makes a lot of sense. They are both evil, power-hungry tyrants who both want to take over the world(or maybe just DK island in K. Rool’s case), so their two dominating personalities would naturally clash with each other.
As far as King Boo and K. Rool having good chemistry, the only thing I can think of is the fact they both have crowns and dress more “kingly” compared to Bowser.
Adding more to Bowser & K. Rool's negative chemistry, the former has a consistent character trait of teaming up with his lifelong nemesis should a more dangerous villain appear while the latter is more psychotic and relentlessly tortures the Kongs. Remember, even villain characters have moral standards.
King Boo & K. Rool having positive chemistry makes sense when you see the former's monstrous and psychotic actions in the Luigi's Mansion games.
Bowser doesn't get along with everyone except for his son and his minions I mean he even dislikes his baby self and his paper counterpart in the mario and luigi series when they first met

The chemistry system unironically doesn’t get Toadette. The Party games show that she actually gets along well with a lot of the in-universe less like characters, notably Mario Party 6 establishing that she’s friends with Wario.
My head canon for Birdo's bad chemistry chart is her envy of the pretty girly girls like Peach, Baby Peach and Tiny, they effortlessly seem to get the attention, meanwhile Daisy and Toadette come across as more spunky, friendly and carefree therefore they would accept Birdo as a friend.
Love how out of all people the person who Bowser hates the most is Toadette. Not Mario, the guy who keeps kicking his ass, but this random Toad girl who at this point has never appeared in the mainline games.
My guess, he loathes and respects Mario as his rival, while with Toadette, Bowser may not stand others that treat their workers so poorly like Toadette does, and he hates Toads, so she may have no redeeming qualities in his eyes
I like to think Bowser gets along with Luigi because he just doesn’t remember him.

In my opinion, "bad chemistry" could very well be a one-sided dislike sometimes. The characters disliking one another back might be a limitation of the system. See: Bowser and Peach. Obviously, Bowser doesn't hate Princess Peach, but the princess hasn't forgotten all the crap she'd had to put up with, so she doesn't like him.
As for Birdo here's my two cents on the matter: Birdo dislikes Wario and Waluigi because she finds them ugly. She dislike Peach and Tiny Kong because she's _jealous_ of them, all pretty and dainty. Finally, she might hate Bloopers because she's disgusted by squids.
It doesn't have to be a clear cut reference, it could just be a general vibe. Dixie Kong is scared of skeletons, so she doesn't like Dry Bones. Donkey Kong is fine with jungle carnivorous plants, so Petey is A-OK in his book.
I always thought the reasoning for Diddy Kong and Goomba is that they're both frequently underestimated and written off by those around them as weaker versions of other options. Even if Diddy did manage to prove he's more than just DK's sidekick by the end of DKC2, he and Goomba probably still see each other as kindred spirits. Heck, the Goombas probably see him as an inspiration for proving the naysayers (mostly Cranky) wrong and becoming a hero
Bowser not getting along with K. Rool makes sense, because Bowser doesn't get along with any major villain - he's far too dedicated with being the Number One Final Boss that he cannot even get along with another version of himself without both parties wanting to backstab each other.

I don't know about most of these, but if I had to guess why Birdo doesn't like Blooper, it might be because Blooper is a squid that squirts ink, and Birdo is a pink dinosaur who wears a red bow. So it's probably a bit of the stereotypical "Girls hate anything slimy or icky". Or Birdo doesn't like that Blooper squirts ink everywhere because it would get into her bow (i.e. into her hair).
The most interesting part to me is that characters have different amounts of chemistry. I always thought it was either you do have it or dont.
Here's something that's pretty weird: In Sluggers, Baby Peach of all characters has the most good chemistry of any character in the game, sharing good chemistry with a total of not 1, not 2, not even 3, but *17* characters! Why her out of anyone in the entire game? The world may never know.
It mainly stems from the subjects of her kingdom, the Yoshis, and other babies. I always loved that for her! 💖
But like, it makes perfect sense, cause why the hell would any mario character have beef with a baby?
They probably think she's adorable, and the much more tolerable of the two baby girls
Toadette and Bowser's bad chemistry being SO specifically high in the first Baseball game also ties to the fact Bowser actually cares for his army and troops in various instances, while Toadette since her debut has been staunchly higher on the totem pole than Toads and knows it, even being anti-union in Mario Maker 2 and seeing Paper Toads as free workforce in Paper Jam.
King K. Rool may have a bad relationship with Bowser because while Bowser treats his subordinates well, King K. Rool constantly endangers his subordinates.
Meanwhile, King Boo likes King K. Rool because, as previously mentioned, King K. Rool constantly endangers his subordinates. King Boo is likely gaining more subordinates who have died from K. Rool's incompetence.

Bowser and K Rool not getting along ia kind of funny. I guess the main issue here is they are both so used to being in charge neither one can stand to be with someone who will give them orders. But King Boo and K Rool are chill, maybe K Rool and King Boo fancy themselves as more cerebral and sophisticated royals and K Rool sees Bowser as a borish brute who isn't regal enough to be a king on his level. It could also be that they see each other as a threat since they both rule over reptiles and could aspire to rule each other's subjects and land.
Maybe Wario and Waluigi used to be friends with Birdo when she was still a villain? But then they had a falling out after Birdo started getting chummy with the good guys 😂

I like Wario and Waluigi’s respective friendships with Boo and Magikoopa.
•Boo is often used for stealing (steals items in Mario Kart and steals coins/stars in Mario Party), so a greedy treasure hunter like Wario would love to have him on his side.
•Magikoopa has plenty of magic tricks that a sneaky cheater like Waluigi would love to get away with using in an otherwise fair game.
I like how King Boo and King K. Rool have chemistry because they're both kings with crowns.

Can't explain Tiny Kong, but the reason Birdo dislikes Peach is a reference to Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, in which Birdo was acting as a stand-in for Princess Peach and gets cursed by Cackletta. I could see someone holding disdain for another for that reason.
Birdo not liking Peach is probably just another reference to SMB2, since they fought each other in that game

King Boo doesn’t seem to mind K. Rool simply because they never fought. Sure, King Boo might be another underling of Bowser, but he’s never been in K. Rool’s way.

I remember how in the Mario party games, Toadette seems to have an oddly *good* relationship with the Wario Bros, with team names like “diabolical friends” or “secret friends.” I don’t remember if those games came before or after the baseball titles, but maybe they just had a falling out/made up at some point? Or maybe they work better together under rules of luck and not fairness.
I loved hearing and seeing the good Chemistry on the field, because I also am like "there's my buddy!" :D
Ok this one is really niche and you have least to watch the game to maybe connect the dots, but this is the theory I come up for the relationship between Toadette and Waluigi. But both are musical enthusiasts and both can be found in the Game Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix. Both characters can be found in that games, Toadette as an stubborn toad even if the world end and Waluigi as the great vilain of the game, so maybe they don't really appreciate each other since this game.
As a kid, Donkey Kong and Petey Piranha being friends made perfect sense to me. They're both massive animalistic foes of Mario who mellowed out and became his friend in the subsequent years.
As an adult, I feel like it's probably just something to do with balancing two powerful hitters.

With Peach and Birdo, Peach and Birdo both appeared in Super Mario Bros 2 (USA). Peach was playable and Birdo was a bad guy so that make sense

I dunno, I don’t think the chemistry is a like/dislike chart but a “who can work best in teams with who” chart. Naturally obviously some that don’t like each other don’t work well in teams, but others in this list make little to no sense, both in the GC and Wii games, like Peach having bad chemistry with Petey in the original, and then Petey even being on her team on Wii and having no negative chemistry.
I mainly say this because I don’t think characters like Bowser and K. Rool hate each other lol, they probs just can’t work well together but I like to HC them as “enemy of my enemy is my friend” type beat lol
They likely see each other as equally powerful, making the other king a threat to their power, and vice versa. Both seek to assert dominance, and neither is willing to give in.
This can be corroborated by how cunning King K. Rool is, and Bowser isn’t far behind. They would naturally mistrust each other.

Toad liking Peach more than Toadette isn’t sad, it’s just Peach is more family to Toad, but it doesn’t mean Toadette means nothing to him. I’m sure Toadette understands his loyalty to his royalty.

Birdo’s Chemistry
Daisy- Birdo and Daisy actually have a good friendship as seen in Mario tennis 64 and fortune Street.
Toadette- Both first playable appearance was Mario kart double dash, in which they were introduced as the female counterparts of toad and yoshi
Peach- Stems from envy in super Mario advance and in saga where her voice was stolen and birdo often talks about being treated like a princess.
Tiny Kong- In this game, one of birdos flaws is being able to hit curves, and tiny Kong was one of the best curves in the game.
Petey- both bosses in M&L and both have unassigned genders in some countries.
Ngl birdo has one of the best chemistry sets, she links the good guys to the bad guys.
my best guess for Birdo's spite towards Tiny Kong is that there can't be two bad bitches on one team so they form an on-the-spot rivalry if they ever get paired up
The Mii thing is because of Diddy being the meanest character on the roster. If anyone was as cold-hearted as to dislike every single Mii, it would be Diddy Kong.
The reason why Peach and Birdo have bad chemistry is because of a cutscene in Mario Strikers, if you choose Peach and Birdo in the same team they argue in the losing animation in that case iirc.
Maybe Wario and Waluigi liking Boo and Magikoopa is a Mario Party reference? Given Wario and Waluigi's preference toward foul play, it'd make sense that they're regulars of characters who'd give an upper hand, like Magikoopa and *especially* Boo.
I've wanted Mario baseball to come back for so long specifically for it's large roster and having a story mode before it became common in sports games. Learning there was a chemistry system this whole only makes me want a new title even more, though modern Mario sports games make me cautious of it.
I would say they should bring this series back, but considering how they treated strikers on switch it might be best not to.
