I am wondering when Calgary tourism is going to be knocking at your door with a job offer. I now have a list of places to see the next time I visit. One of my favourite places is the art gallery for sure. Also, a pedestrianized street!? We don't even have ONE in Vancouver, or San Francisco for that matter! Congrats on 1k subs!
@@humanecities For real. Robson north/west of Burrard is a perfect place for it. Popular business corridor, busy parallel roads for car traffic and alley ways for delivery. But I would not expect to see such change until after the next election for town hall.
One of the more handsome hosts of an ’urban planning/less car dependency’ TH-cam Channel out there (but don’t tell the others ;P) Also great video concept!!
i tried something similar in calgary and was impressed!! with the help of my trusty friend, of course. Calgary has so much to offer and can get you around to a lot more places than my hometown 😬 but i’ll have to try it anyway!!
Love it! The biggest things on my itinerary to show people visiting Calgary is the Stampede grounds and Prince's Island Park. When some family members visited me for the first time in Calgary earlier this year, we also did COP/Winsport so that they could see the bobsled track, and of course the Calgary Tower. The Crescent Heights viewpoint is also great, but transit there isn't the best...it's kinda disconnected from anywhere else you'd visit on transit. You could chain Crescent Heights and Stampede with bus 17, but it's super infrequent.
My first visit to Calgary (way back in 2013), I literally rode the Red and Blue Lines end to end. Calgary's good for some rail fanning too, and will get even better with the Green Line we keep talking about. I'm also going up to Edmonton this weekend to visit a friend and ride the Valley Line on its inaugural weekend!
I also had an idea to see if I could ride buses 1-100 (at least one stop on each route) in a single day, but then Covid hit. Would be interesting to see if it's possible; although some have to be timed really well as they're only served during peak hours.
Those are great spots to see, too! I can’t wait for the Green Line to go up the hill. Seeing the city from there - and the train from the hill - will be awesome!
Salt Lake is… interesting 🤣 Something unique (and potential good) is their oversized blocks. I’d like to take a closer look. I’ve also heard one of their planners on a podcast and it sounded like they had some plans 🤔 I’ll have to see if I can find that.

It's a job I would take 🤣
WAIT! Vancouver and SF don't have any?! I'm actually shocked...
And thank you 🙏

☺️ Well, thank you 🙏 I’ll try not to let it go to my head 🤯 🤣
6:36-6:49 This is exactly the kind well-researched well-articulated information I came here for. Great job.

Always happy to help people explore Calgary! I’d love to see speedrun staycations in other places!
We love this Alex! As a person who is tired of fixing a car I've been more mindful of ways to get around.
Cars are a lot of effort! It’s great to start thinking about other options!

I am soooo jealous! Have fun on the Valley Line!
@AustinSersen I’ll join you for the 1-100 bus route challenge!
What a great day you had! It would be fun to repeat this with a visitor and get their perspective.
I’d LOVE! I’d also love to do this in other cities! I might have to include a bit of this when I do my videos about my other trips.
Interesting you were at East Village but didn't go to Chinatown, which is actually accessible on foot.
They are! I really skipped the whole North end of Downtown. I’d like to talk more about those areas in the future!
also at least you have one walkable-only street😭 Salt Lake city doesn’t have sh*t

What time of year was this done, Alex? September? I'd be interested in visiting Calgary from Vancouver, but can't take the colder temps.
This was October! Thanksgiving weekend! If you want to avoid colder temps, May to August is usually pretty safe.
so many feminist icons tho
So MANY!
