This song is as relevant today as when Bobby Darin wrote and sang it. Everyone should listen the the words and tell our government that this is what should be. Bobby wrote this song in 1971. Please listen.
We need everyone to not only listen, but as Dave Harper said, we ALL need to TELL Our Government This is how we think and feel. As long as we are silent, it will never get any better.
Its not obvious, but what Bobby Darin did starting in about 1966, was ballsy. Total transformation in his style. He probably pissed off his older mainstream fans with this kind of material. But he really clearly did not care and I admire the hell out of that.
Well my stepdad told me differently....he said many of Darin's more conservative older fans were upset with him later....he was at a show where a lot of old Goodfellas types booed him in the late 60's
I was a preteen then, and I LOVED HIM for what you have just explained. He was a courageous person all of his life. I would not have wanted to live my life without his art in my life to enjoy and from which to be educated. If there's a Heaven, he's there. BD, I LOVE YOU.
Bill Morelli Except that now we don't show body bags with our nightly news over dinner. The daily dead headcount isn't the way our current 'war' is measured. And as such, our involvement in the Mideast is largely invisible, just the way the government prefers it.
Robert Lytle More people die on I95 in a year and you don’t hear about that either. ........ unfortunately the US Government lost its way in those times . Protecting the South Vietnamese from being murdered was a noble cause, that went terribly wrong on many levels.
Imagine this guy, dressed in a tuxedo, looking for-all-the-world like Mr. Establishment, singing a song like this. Just goes to show that you can't judge a book by its cover. He was a great entertainer and was becoming the voice of the people when he met his untimely death. There should be more like him!
Bobby had his first open heart surgery in Feb 1971, this is Jan 1972. He had to take oxygen offstage between songs. He got his own NBC variety show in the summer of 1972. It lasted until May 1973. Bobby had his 2nd open heart surgery in Dec 1973. He died in the recovery room afterward. Bobby was a brave, wise soul. Gone too soon.

This is and always will be a protest song. The message was clear and true when Bobby Darin sang it in 1970 and it's still true today. I spent the 60e' appreciating him and his songs and I always will. Thanks for the love clip in color. I regret that he left us too soon.
I am.62 yrs. old now,(2013), and have sung Bobby Darin's song of freedom for most of my life, almost as a comforting mantra. The song is so incredibly beautiful and with such meaning and always gave warmth to my heart. To honour Bobby , I love singing and playing it on my acoustic guitar for people. God bless Mr. Darrin, and I thank him so much for this touching song. Wish so much that he could have lived longer. His song here sure did give me life.
Beautiful song, always current unfortunately. Bobby Darin you were and will always remain the greatest of all, a great artist, a true man and a beautiful person. Forever in my heart.
I got to meet and know Bobby when I had my band in Vegas in the early 60's. A local DJ friend took me out to the Flamingo Hotel to Bobby's dressing room and introduced us.Bobby went to LA and recorded 18 Yellow Roses. When he came back he came to where my band played, Twin Lakes Lodge. He sang this song that night, the first time it was played publicly. He was the nicest person you would ever hope to meet. He was like an old friend. He is missed as a performer and a great person.
Mbakerfl please say more about your mem or of Bobby. I am in contact with tbe brother of the owner of The Twin Lakes and he talks of these days. Tell us all about the Bobby you knew, so glad to hear. Thank you

I'm watching this PBS special right now (for the 20th time) and this song by Bobby Darin is one the best highlights of the show,,, when lyrics from nearly 50 years ago can still be used in this day and age,, it's a sad thing,,,,, Bobby wrote this as well, and what a magnificent job he did,,, miss you, Bobby!!
Bobby's "Simple Song Of Freedom" still rings true today, ….. "we the people do not want a war"…….. What a great gift Bobby had, no screaming out a song, it just flowed with such feeling, I just love it. It was never played enough. I grew up with Bobby's songs, he was a genius.
Mr. Darin when I was younger you sir were my favorite singer until this song was performed. All these years later I finally understand what yout words meant. Thank you Mr Darin
Bobby sang a lot of different styles of music, which means there's something for everyone. I remember some of his early songs which I didn't know @ the time were his! others I've never heard til recently on UTUBE. I worked in a record shop in '59 when his Mack the Knife was number 1 the whole year. I mostly like the old music. I learned to like jazz and opera after working at the shop. I don't care for any of today's music. I saw on utube that he did a rap song so I had to listen to it. It was way before all the current rap artists. "Me and Mr. Horner Standing on the Corner". Guess what I have listened to this one more than a couple of times.
So relevant in our world today. Everyone needs to have this song in there head all the time. When will humanity ever get it. Bobby's rendition is so simple..
Rock'n'roll icon, cabaret singer, Las Vegas legend, folk singer and actor. Was there anything he couldn't do? And he did it all in less than 20 years. A TREMENDOUS loss.
Our world needs a song like this today. Bobby Darin was a class act...perhaps ahead of his time. Taken from us too soon. But his spirit lives on in a song such as this. Be at Peace.
He was a master and is greatly missed. I still love him as much as ever and wish he was still with us. Love all his music, but this song is timely and timeless!
I listened to Bobby Darins song tonight & I loved it... He stood there with His beautiful tux on Singing that Great song ; If He was Still here with Us He would have made a Difference in This ole World ~
He's still here, more than most of us, Lori. We just need to make sure his voice, his music, his message is heard, especially in the 20WORST Century of War/Terrorism-Manufacturing/Profiteering and the Enslavement of the entire human race, by 1% of the population.
It's incredible. His "People hear what they see" idea really worked. Bobby was booed off stage when he first sang his protest songs, wearing jeans + a mustache! As Bob Darin. They wanted their old Mack-the-knife-Bobby back! He didn't know what to do, so he combined it. Put on his tux again, sang a few of his old songs + some of his new material. These songs meant a lot to him. And suddenly the audience loved the protest songs, too! It was basically the same set list, he just looked different.
Good explanation! I heard the audience booed him off the stage when he changed from his big band style to the protest style. I didn't know Las Vegas audiences accepted him when he put on a tux. By the way, he looks and sounds super laid back in this video. I guess he was so sick. He didn't have the energy. But that worked for this song. The straight ahead style is better than the brassy style of his earlier days.
This has always been my favorite Darin recording, Splish Splash, You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby are of course amazing. But it seemed like whenever he sang this song he was putting himself completely into it and it was from his heart.
Bobby Darin is truly one of our musical icons and his really caring deep side I don't think showed much on the performance circuit. I don't think I heard this song until I saw the movie beyond the Sea. And the dramatization of this song will never stop moving my emotions. And as others have said it is still very relevant today. Tragic that he had to have and go through the rheumatic fever -a deadly disease. My mother had it and a good friend of mine her mother had it. pm destroys the heart valves, and my mother literally died of a broken ❤️ figuratively and literally when they aorta broke as well and my friend's mother died also from the plastic replacement valves she obtained through surgery and they finally wore through. Bobby's music will be remembered forever and I hope his soul is soaring to greater heights and maybe he'll come back and reincarnate and bring help and energy to get us through this mess we r in right now!
He did a true real and rational regarding about what and how ever one should all do!! With him being stated, as a retired teacher, I grade him with an A++!!
An amazing story: This was quite a break for a man in a tenure track trajectory for full professor in the school of Frank Sinatra. The break was both musically and politically. Yet not as great a break as some my think. He unfortunately had a bad heart. We remember him for his contribution in all his phases from urban pop, to doing original and superb interpretations of American standards with a big band, to his final political statement recorded here.
Bobby Darrin (spellcheck) was one of a kind. Frankie- no resemblance. I do love FS. Im 62 . the point is FREEDOM. TRUMP is trying to take. I refuse. Im walking by a gun store rite now. Lyrics Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. Hey, there, mister black man, can you hear me? I don't want your diamonds or your game I just want to be someone known to you as me And I will bet my life you want the same. Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. Seven hundred million are ya list'nin'? Most of what you read is made of lies But, speakin' one to one ain't it everybody's sun To wake to in the mornin' when we rise? Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. Brother Solzhenitsyn, are you busy? If not, won't you drop this friend a line Tell me if the man who is plowin' up your land Has got the war machine upon his mind? Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. Now, no doubt some folks enjoy doin' battle Like presidents, prime ministers and kings So, let's all build them shelves Where they can fight among themselves Leave the people be who love to sing. Come and sing a simple song of freedom Sing it like you've never sung before Let it fill the air Tell the people everywhere We, the people here, don't want a war. I say … let it fill the air … Tellin' people everywhere … We, the people here, don't want a war. play.google.com/music/preview/Tqxf63x6n5kfzl4xpmtk3vgoc7e?lyrics=1&pcampaignid=kp-lyrics&u=0#
In my opinion, the greatest folk song ever written! This song put Tim Hardin in the limelite! Mac The Knife, Splish Splash, ETC., are there forever! What a songwriter!
This song is appropriate today as it was when he first wrote/sang it. Love what it has to say...very honest and straightforward. More people in government and leadership should listen carefully to the words.....
Absolutely. There is more happening ‘out there’ than the news tells us. We have to bELIEVE that things ARE improving. The Universe will not let us suffer this time around. Mother Earth WILL survive also.
Gary Watson Yes.. The Oneness IS happening. When more of us come together & accept one another, as The Ascended Masters,do, we will really move into Higher Dimensions. And that means no judgements, no attachments, no confrontations. All that is related to inner fears. We are only here on this, our Mother Earth Plane, for a short time, in each life-time, and the better we can be as humans, the more quickly we will evolve. The Universe is totally with us. So keep up the great work, friend, pass on the Love & Light to all whom you meet in your daily comings & goings. If we can have an open Heart daily, this will be as Magic and it will encourage others. If those around me complain, I usually say, Be Grateful for the moment (this is all that we have). And those in the western world have plenty- althou', too much is often not the best. Bobby D. was, as I see it, A Light Worker. We all plan our time b/f being born & know how long we’ll be here, as well as our assignments. I knew at 7 years of age, my direction. I was in the play yard of my junior school, and said to myself, I wanted to teach. I really loved children so much. That had to have been from past life influences, I’d say.. LOL. Keep up the GREAT work. We WILL, we ARE improving. Don’t watch too much news :).Namaste.
I think a lot of the regular people he was singing to need to hear the message too. Seems a lot of people hate messages of peace more than they hate conflict.
thepinkbutterfly10 ...i don't believe he's "resting" at all. He believed in Jesus so he's in Heaven singing for God now. Think how great to hear him there, & to join in!
I've always loved Bobby Darin & his music. Maybe the reason he wore his heart out is because he shared his feelings with the entire world. Every time I hear this song, it feels like a fire is burning in my own heart. I feel exactly as I think he did when he wrote it. He was truly a great human being and a wonderful singer. God Rest his soul.
That was very brave. I watched the movie that was made about him and it really gave great context for what he was doing in this type of perfomance. Doing this song in a tux all prim and proper. At that time it proved to be the best avenue for him to put this song out. It's a long movie but this and some other GREAT parts made it worth watching.
Thank you for this beautiful song, Bobby. I listen to it every day. I’m sorry you had to ‘move on’ so quickly. I hope to meet you when my time comes. I love you ‘to the moon & back.’
God bless Bobby Darin, This song still holds some relevance today (in 2013) Sure Bush has left office, but some wars still drag on. Still we still want to sing a "Simple Song Of Freedom!"
(Canadian here) On Remembrance Day (Veterans Day in USA), my wife & I were listening to a special satellite radio music program from San Diego. 4 hours of ‘60s music honoring the Veterans, but I didn’t hear this song. As Mr Dave Harper commented here a few years ago, it’s as relevant today as it was initially recorded. Hmmm. I wonder what would happen if someone updated the names to be more current and re-recorded it?
I got started listening to Bobby Darrin after seeing the Kevin Spacey movie "Beyond the Sea" . I wasn't even a big Bobby Darrin fan , he was a bit before my time, That movie made a fan out of me. Thanks for posting this vid.
This song is as relevant today as when Bobby Darin wrote and sang it. Everyone should listen the the words and tell our government that this is what should be. Bobby wrote this song in 1971. Please listen.
Thank you, Dave Harper. If everybody listened, we'd have an America we really could be proud of.
We need everyone to not only listen, but as Dave Harper said, we ALL need to TELL Our Government This is how we think and feel. As long as we are silent, it will never get any better.
Dave Harper Those who don't learn from history....
Agree 100%!
He wrote in 69 after he went into seclusion following RFKs assassination. He worked for RFK and was at the hotel when it happened.

This is what needs to be sung and heard in 2020!
I listened to Bobby Darins song tonight & I loved it... He stood there with His beautiful tux on Singing that Great song ; If He was Still here with Us He would have made a Difference in This ole World ~
+lori sapiel So true Lori
+lori sapiel He DID make a difference in this world. :>)
He's still here, more than most of us, Lori. We just need to make sure his voice, his music, his message is heard, especially in the 20WORST Century of War/Terrorism-Manufacturing/Profiteering and the Enslavement of the entire human race, by 1% of the population.
Lori Philbrick ...he did, in His own time.
If forgotten what a good song and message that was it should be playing now we need it even more 😢
It's incredible.
Me too. I found him back in July a few days before my 14th birthday and I love him so much.
Another who is Gone, but Definitely Not Forgotten, one in a Billion, with a Beautiful mind🎸🎢🇺🇲🎸
just brilliant....so much this guy gave us.....and left us way to early, but is not life cruel like that. this man is singing for humanity....
This has always been my favorite Darin recording, Splish Splash, You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby are of course amazing. But it seemed like whenever he sang this song he was putting himself completely into it and it was from his heart.
This is one of my favorite songs ! Thank you Bobby Darin :}
i'm Voting !!!! How could anyone hear this song and not get emotional !
Could listen to this every day
+Richard B Rosseau I do.
Me too..
Me too.
I do
Bobby Darin: The very best.
Fabulous Bobby Darin.
Absolutely
Powerful
Such a talent we lost to soon, wish more people could hear this song
I didn t know this singer so far. He was really fantastic. I love him since ever.
I have to add this song to my collection.....it is a message and a statement
Brilliant song, a man with lot of heart, and courage.
I love Bobby Darin's music, he was right about this time and he is still right about war
Nobody did it--or does it-- like Bobby Darin! He was such a unique entertainer, and super cool!
Tim actually sang it better...
@@crazydiamond4565 WRONG! You're clueless. Bobby Darin had no equal.
Kevin Spacey.
Lisa dont know benjamin but hey if hes a freedom fighter. Im in

Simply a greatest singer and beautiful person ..with love from Naples (Italy)
Just great. Bobby Darin did it all, and to think, with all his talents, he was open to new ideas! Thanks!.

Lyrics
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
Hey, there, mister black man, can you hear me?
I don't want your diamonds or your game
I just want to be someone known to you as me
And I will bet my life you want the same.
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
Seven hundred million are ya list'nin'?
Most of what you read is made of lies
But, speakin' one to one ain't it everybody's sun
To wake to in the mornin' when we rise?
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
Brother Solzhenitsyn, are you busy?
If not, won't you drop this friend a line
Tell me if the man who is plowin' up your land
Has got the war machine upon his mind?
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
Now, no doubt some folks enjoy doin' battle
Like presidents, prime ministers and kings
So, let's all build them shelves
Where they can fight among themselves
Leave the people be who love to sing.
Come and sing a simple song of freedom
Sing it like you've never sung before
Let it fill the air
Tell the people everywhere
We, the people here, don't want a war.
I say … let it fill the air …
Tellin' people everywhere …
We, the people here, don't want a war.

Thank you 👍, for this song people every where should listen to it.
Well said I was going to say the same.
Well said Gary and I think you are right.
Sooo strong...! Thanks Bobby, you wrote a wonderful song.
I never knew him but when saw the movie it made cry with joy and I live his song we live him in peace 😊
Fell in love with Bobby's heart all over again after re hearing this!
What an awesome song-sung by an awesome performer! RIP!
And written by this awesome songwriter/performer/singer/actor.
Okay.
thepinkbutterfly10 ...i don't believe he's "resting" at all. He believed in Jesus so he's in Heaven singing for God now. Think how great to hear him there, & to join in!
@@ohwhatelse We'll have to agree to disagree.
Thank you for letting me find this song from a youth 🤓✌
Agree💮
Beautiful song Bobby that I will never forget.
He is fantastic. Now imagine how good he could have been if he could actually breath. Outstanding talent.
Perfect for our times, March 1st, 2022 .. 🙏🇺🇦 .. Bobby Darin ☮️ Peace🇺🇸 🌹 🎼🎵
Song still rings true. Breaks my heart how the industry treated him and so many other.
Thank you for this beautiful song, Bobby. I listen to it every day. I’m sorry you had to ‘move on’ so quickly. I hope to meet you when my time comes. I love you ‘to the moon
& back.’
so important in these days
2023...This song could be sung again.....
Perfection - Thanks Bobby! It makes me happy to see posts from young people that they can appreciate Bobby's talent. Right ON! Peace!
Very talented and one of the greatest singers and entertainers in America.
God bless Bobby Darin, This song still holds some relevance today (in 2013) Sure Bush has left office, but some wars still drag on. Still we still want to sing a "Simple Song Of Freedom!"
Mr. P.M. you should listen to this! R.I.P. Mr. Bobby Darin, you were a class act and you were top of the class❤
Just a great song that has endured time....so true today. Sad ending to a marvelous talent.
I get chills when I watch this. He had SOUL
The same here about Bobby Darin 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮!
The same here about Bobby Darin!😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
He had a great voice. I still love to hear him singing.
One of his best songs... and that's saying something.
A GREAT simple Song.
WRC looks so serene here. Really at peace. What a BEAUTIFUL SOUL. What a GIVER.
I got started listening to Bobby Darrin after seeing the Kevin Spacey movie "Beyond the Sea" . I wasn't even a big Bobby Darrin fan , he was a bit before my time, That movie made a fan out of me. Thanks for posting this vid.
