Have you heard of a you tube channel called Homemade Wanderlust? Dixie is a thru hiker who did the PTC. This week she had a segment on things to consider in a high snow year on the PCT. And boy have they had snow out west this year. Good luck and stay safe.
Yep - even after all her fame, she still keeps her videos real and "normal". It hasn't gone to her head like other TH-camrs did. So many have now quit under the pressure of keeping up with the algorithm, but Dixie keeps trekking on in providing excellent content. I never miss an episode. I'm starting a bit later than the "bubble" so fingers crossed I will skip the worse parts of the snow, but I am taking Microspikes from day one and will be happy to skip sections if need be. I'm not a purist by any means. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Such a great gear video! Thanks for sharing! I hope we have a chance to meet each other on the trail this year as im starting in April as well. It's gonna be an epic adventure and love that you're raising money for mental health.
Excellent kit, Julia! Might nab myself one of those SOS beacons. The subscriptions are annoying! As a side note, I was sceptical about the back country bidet. Tried it once on the PCT and now never need to pack out used bog roll. Still carried some for emergencies. But yeah, BCBs are the tits. Happy pooping!
😂 I’m not that brave! Did you have to use a wag bag in the snow? (Just curious). I’ve had the RescueMe for a long time now and the battery lasts 7 years, so no need to charge either. If communicating with loved ones is essential then it’s no good for you, but if not then it’s the bees knees.
Haha trust me. You feel so fresh after! You know what, I don’t think I ever needed a dump in the snow. Good timing I guess. Longest stretches of snow were between Wrightwood and Paradise Valley and would drop down below snow frequently enough.
Oh Julia!!! I'm SO very excited for you!! I hope no one would judge you for your stuff, we all have to pack for ourselves, eh? They say we pack our fears, mine is food so I always pack too much! Thank you for sharing what to pack as I'm very not good at it yet, lol! 😅 Sure pray that you have a wonderful and safe time!!!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Sidney. I'm very excited about the PCT and my family are fed up with me talking about it! It's great to voice my excitement here! :-)
Julia good luck on your Pct Adventure. Your going to love it. This summer at Timberline lodge a young man I talked to lost his wallet at the lodge and was able to find it because he had one of those apple tags in it.
Looking forward to your journey on the PCT. Love a gear list video lol and yours looks like it'll serve you well. Best of luck with your training and journey out there. Exciting times!
Looking for a 25" GG-style 1/8" foam-pad. Saw your knockoff version and wondered if they made 25"? Didn't see it in the Lighter-pack list? Tried the MLD which is plenty big, but its foam is stickier (maybe slightly heavier and tears easier) than GG and it doesn't slide in-and-out of the pack as easily. Regarding the Roo pack-pocket, Kam-snaps work well to secure the opening. Using a pair of Kam-snaps, because that's where temporary heavy loads go (3L dirty-water CNOC in desert or Micro-spikes in mountains).
Hi Tom - i't sat the bottom of my Lighterpack list (thin pad). I got mine from ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/featherweight-evazote-foam-mat/ - it looks like they do a variety of different lengths etc so take a look and see if any suit your needs. This one does not slide in and out of my pack either, so I keep it in my bungie cords on the front of the pack, so it may not work for you. Kam-Snaps - googling. Thank you. They look great and better than the bungy cord things that I have (Ikea special!). Thanks so much for your help.
@@TheAdventureGeek Ripstop by the Roll has the Kam-snaps and punch. Imagine some trail-angel has a punch, maybe (if you're already in the States?). Otherwise, it's not expensive and it's a pretty handy tool. Kam-snap most everything. Hair-bungies to clothes/gloves, quilts to pads, etc..
ahh ive been so excited for this one! Great video and great spread of gear. Love the colour scheme! Whats the decathlon blister tape you use? Ill have to keep an eye out for it when im next in :)
I'm so excited to follow you on your PCT journey! I love that you separated the walkthrough into sections of gear, it made for an easy and organized view. Question: I have specialized inlaid soles in my trailrunners, and I was wondering if you plan to replace yours a couple times along the route? They tend to wear down after a certain amount of miles.
I really didn't know how to film it. I started just talking and taking things out of my pack but I got bored recording it, so go d knows what people would think watching it! I'm glad I changed it to "sections" and thanks for the feedback. My insoles were made from a podiatrist and I have two pairs of temporary ones (for emergencies) and one pair of permanent ones which should last the distance (fingers crossed). So hopefully I'm covered. Thanks for the feedback Rachel.
@@TheAdventureGeek Thank you for the response! Glad to hear you are covered with some temporary soles, hope it will last you all the way. Since mine are made by a podiatrist too it will be interesting to see how yours fare (a niche interest for us wonky-feet people I'm sure).
Hi Julia, thank you sharing this - great gear video! I have a question about the actiph bottles - does the platypus filter fit onto them? Or will you use your dirty water bag and just put the clean filtered water into the actiph bottles? Thanks!
Julia dear, Please postpone your trek! The trail isn't going anywhere other than being 10 feet under ice and snow and we are about to get slammed again tomorrow! I sincerely suggest all Nobo's delay and start a Sobo in late March..
I'm not starting until late April and have already got flights booked, and accommodation paid for, my business is all prepped for me to be away. I have promised my family that I won't take any risks and happy to embrace alternate routes and skip sections if need be. I'm not a purist and value my life. Thanks so much for your concern.
You Brits take hiking and mountaineering very serious, and I know you will conquer the 2023 pct.
So excited for you Julia! Hope you have the most amazing time 😊 stay safe x
Cheers. It's not long now and i'm so very excited. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
You are prepared. Looking forward to following you.
I'm always amazed at how much stuff people get into their pack. You look ready to go. Keep trekking. 😀
Thanks, will do!
Love this video! Gear looks well trimmed down and an amazing collection. Looking forward to watching your adventure unfold. 🥰
Wish you were coming with me! The videos won't be the same without my hiking buddy.

I know they are not cheap but I’ve got two. One in my pack and one in my bum bag, purely for peace of mind. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
