- A longplay of Sonic 3 & knuckles, play as Sonic & Tails.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles is a game that results when Sonic 3 is locked-on to Sonic & Knuckles via Lock-On Technology. It acts as one large combined game and all the levels from Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles become available. In Sonic Classic Collection, for unknown reasons, the game was renamed to Knuckles in Sonic 3.
There are several noticeable differences when playing the games combined. Knuckles is playable in the Sonic 3 levels and Tails becomes available in the Sonic & Knuckles levels. Also, all of the levels from both games are accessible, starting from Sonic 3. Once these levels are completed the Death Egg falls off screen intact instead of being destroyed, and then the play continues straight to the levels of Sonic & Knuckles. The final boss of Sonic 3 is also omitted for Sonic and Tails.
After collecting all the Chaos Emeralds of Sonic 3 a new quest becomes available when entering the first Giant Ring in Mushroom Hill Zone, which allows you to collect seven new Emeralds called "Super Emeralds" through a special stage hub world in Hidden Palace Zone. When these Emeralds are collected, Sonic can transform into Hyper Sonic and Knuckles can transform into Hyper Knuckles. Tails has no Hyper form, but the Super Emeralds are needed for him to transform into Super Tails, as the Chaos Emeralds alone have no effect on him. There are also several other notable differences when playing these two combined games. - เกม

Words cannot describe how much I love Sonic. Been a huge fan since 91 even dressed as him for my first grade Halloween party. Yea folks gave me crap about it because I'm a girl, but I didn't give a damn and let them know it. He's MY childhood hero dammit 😂😂

Well everyone that remembers where are the big/giant or that are speedrunners can do that
it's not hard to get a perfect on all special stages just miss a single group of blue spheres that if you collect won't give you rings and then once you can collect all rings and once you're done with that just get back to the group of blue spheres you haven't collected

Best gameplay I've seen of this game. The high number of rings you collected, the seriously quick timing, the number of times you didn't get hit...I've played this game hundreds of times at this point, but I was truly impressed by your skills. Keep it up!

I played this game for the first time in 15+ years and I was amazed at how I could do all the emerald bonus stages on the 1st try on all but one, I remembered the exact way I used to do them. No wonder I did poorly in school when I was that age... LOL.
The one you couldn't do it first try was the one with the red and white tiles or the one with the orange and purple tiles right? Those are the hardest ones 🤣🤣

Yup. They were originally supposed to be the same game, but they were just too large to for one cartridge, so instead of getting rid of a massive amount of content, they split them into to two "separate" games. I didn't think about it much as a kid playing my Genesis but I find it so very interesting as an old lady. Lol.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles as big as it is WAS possible on one cartridge, proof is this is that a ROM Hack called Sonic 3 Complete is able to work just fine on 1 cartridge. SEGA probably only said it was roo big to cover up the actual reason Sonic 3 was split, which was Deadlines and finances.

But it was an alternate Universe where Dr. Julian never became Robotnik and
had a PhD in Medical Practice. He was a good guy also. But the Freedom
Fighters were different. They were Evil in that one, for some very strange
reason. Sonic got transported into their world, and had to choose between
saving himself, or Saving Dr. Julian by going against the Evil Fighters, which
be had too much difficulty to do that, because they reminded him too much
of his friends at Knothole!

I always used to think the laser Robotnik shoots at 1:06:00 looked kinda like a boob 😂
I also used to think the ghosts from act 2 of Sandopolis Zone, in their dangerous form, looked like the head of a Great Dane. Well over 20 years later and I'm watching them as something completely different. For some reason they creeped me out more when I thought they looked like disembodied dog heads.

Probably a glitch with the palette since he's underwater. Or it could be because of the emulator.
It is because of the water, normally if super sonic dives in water it makes him look green but since he transformed in the water the game loaded its own sprites

What?! You could spindash into the little cars with spikes in Death Egg Zone Act 2? I always just timed it with the anti-gravity change.
Started playing again last night and for the first time ever, I have *all the emeralds* by Zone 3, Act 1! I'm in *Flying Battery Zone* Act 1 now, and I can sail through the *Knuckles* Zones as Super Sonic... I've cleared the game before, but never got all the *Chaos Emeralds* so near the beginning of the game! It's a masterpiece of a game, and was always intended to be ONE GAME. That's why the *Sonic 3* part ends so abruptly. Lack of cartridge space meant the game had to be split in two, giving us Sonic 3 & Knuckles. When combined and played together, the experience feels complete. The storyline is more fleshed out, and has a proper ending, rather than a lame fight with a pathetically weak Robotnik as the final boss! Well done Sonic Team. Thanks for making this, your *MAGNUM OPUS*! From Super Fan Davey in Ireland!

The soundtrack is absolutely brilliant for sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles. The boss music is my favourite out of all the sonic games. But Ice cap and lava reef and superb. The only small issue I have with the soundtrack is the music they used for the stars and super sonic. It’s fine in short as just the power up, but when you hear the same 5 second loop repeatedly it doesn’t feel so special.
I hope someone understands what I mean anyway.
