Tenor Guitar - An Introduction by Richard Durrant

- Musician Richard Durrant introduces us to one of his great loves - the Tenor Guitar and performs three short pieces: The Skye Boat Song and the Two Minuets from Bach's 1st Cello Suite in G.
In this film Richard is playing "The Uffington Tenor" built for him by Sussex luthier Ian Chisholm (complete with a silver White Horse of Uffington inlaid on the headstock) . The guitar features on Richard's 2018 double album "Stringhenge" .

@@frankcompagnone8550 Scottish. Called The Skye Boat Song, or Over the Sea to Skye. These days many people would know it as The Outlanders Theme.
Really enjoyed Speed Bonnie boat. My father used to sing it as a lullaby when I was a child. A beautiful versatile instrument

I recently purchased an Ibanez tenor guitar. That was absolutely beautiful playing. Damn! I wish I could play like that! I'd best get practicing!

I’m mainly a ukulele player and I have a tenor guitar tuned in Chicago tuning, with a low fourth string. my ukes are mainly soprano size and I have two concert scale ukulele. they are tuned re-entrant in gCEA. I also have a sopranino uke, tuned cFAD. my tenor guitar stands in for a baritone ukulele.
the upshot is I can use the same chord shapes on the whole range and all I have to do is remember what key they’re playing in.

I've loved the tenor guitar for years! I'm a big Kingston Trio fan and general folk music fanatic. Nick Reynolds and Rick Dougherty have played tenor guitar in DGBE tuning in the band it adds so much to the Trio's sound. Guitar, banjo and tenor guitar are the instuments they used and I made a point of owning and playing all three.
I have a pretty nice, if old, tenor guitar and I love it to pieces. It has such a lovely voice.

I was curious as to what a tenor guitar was like, and what a great intro to one too! Now I know how one should sound! Only remembered you halfway through and it took me back to a most marvelous evening when you, and a young lady with a lovely voice , entertained us in our tiny church in the sleepy Lincolnshire village of Belchford in the days of the rural touring scheme.Enjoyed chatting to you about all things musical in our local hostilary afterwards. Seem to think we had a similar interest in melding electronic and real instruments together.
