"Exit Music (For a Film)" was originally written for the 1996 movie "Romeo + Juliet", and is basically a stylized retelling of the Shakespeare play. One of their best songs, which is saying a lot.

In the uk we’re indoctrinated into Shakespeare. This emotion about the most tragic love story ever, is by far one of my all time favourites of theirs! Romeo and Juliet. Baz’s film before Moulin Rouge.
      Enjoy honey.
Thankfully, thus far you haven’t felt the pain and absolute soul braking heartbreak of true love, literally killing you.
When you do (and I hope you don’t feel the depths of Thom’s lyrics despair, like most of us artistic types do), remember this tune!
If you’re blocked, numb, can’t cry and can’t move forward, this will let it out.
      Good taste darling.
The only other that does this is Pearl Jams Black, MTV live lounge edition.
      Xx

Slowly becoming my new favorite reaction TH-camr my friend! The emotion in this song is God tier. Great job buddy! I would HIGHLY recommend “how to disappear completely “ of the kid A album. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard

I second that.. if I remember correctly, Thom York mentioned in an interview that "how to disappear completely" was the song he wanted Radiohead to be remembered for. (NOT Creep!)

Fun fact. What you called "crunchy synth" is actually the bass guitar. Their bassist sometimes plays with a Japanese Fuzzbox effect on his bass.

  • @jack_rabbit
    @jack_rabbit ปีที่แล้ว +6

kid, you are on fire with the posting... hahahaha keep it up. oh and ps: that's not a synth, that's colin's bassline. it's just ran through some kind of bitcrusher or extreme fuzz and maybe compression or limiter.

The next best song with a similar vibe is back to Kid A with even more haunting "How to Disappear Completely." If you want a hard rocking Radiohead, check out early (first album "Creep" days Radiohead) "Blow Out: Live from the Astoria." At their roots before they evolved into the mind bending band they are as a whole, they were a three guitar attack, bass and drums. Same 5 guys for over 35 years - almost unheard of in music, but its how they reached their heights. This is Romeo and Juliet - early DiCaprio version - and the lyrics make it clear once you check them out. Awesome!

The whole "OK Computer" album is a complete masterpiece. I haven't followed the latest output from the band, but I remember when this record came out it completely blew our minds and couldn't stop listening, it was one of my favourite albums of all time up to that point. At some point I had to stop listening to it because it's a bit on the dark depressing mood and kinda burned me out, but every once in a while I come back to it and still can appreciate the genius of it, even more now where internet & AI is everywhere and you can't even call to a company to complain about something without getting a bot to answer you. ("Old man yells at cloud" rant ends here).

This album is in my own personal 'Top 5 of all time'. I do agree the general attitude of the album is more on the bummer side than happy. Still, it's so intimate and engaging. It's one of the very few albums I can listen to front to back without skipping a second. I can playback most of the songs in my head at this point. The bass lines are so fun to concentrate on, the guitar playing is so well composed and executed, the mixing is perfect, Thoms voice is so expressive, the drums never miss.

When you do Videotapes, you need to listen to the studio AND the 2006 Bonaroo live version. The beat is syncopated and it throws most people off, but there's a big difference between the versions. The live version, it's like Johnny Greenwood (lead guitar) is jamming his own song to the rest of the group. Love it

As many people have said before, this song was written for a 1996 Romeo And Juliet movie. However, since then, it has eventually appeared with great success in other movies and TV shows, most notably The Umbrella Academy and a infamously gut-wrenching episode of Black Mirror.

Heyyy! I discovered your channel today! And I have to tell you how much I like your reactions. Radiohead is such an emotionally impactful (and at times, emotionally challenging) band-- They've been a part of my life since my late teens, they're still my faves, and watching you be moved by their music so candidly really put a smile to my face. It felt like listening to them for the first time :DD I'm going to check out the rest of your channel!
(PS: I'd keep suggesting Radiohead songs lkdgjs but the only band I'd compare them to - as in musicians who've revolutionized music, I mean- would be Pink Floyd so. Maybe check them out? I think you'd really love them too!)

Songs sometimes hit us at the right time and it really clicks, sometimes not. This one requires a certain mood I'd say. And also, is better on re-listen because the anticipation really brings up the chills. I'm pretty sure you'll connect with their song Paranoid Android, on the same album, it oscillates between slow and dynamic parts, so maybe it will appeal to your taste for more dynamic rock (like metal).
It's super interesting to see how new ppl react to classics like this, so thanks for sharing mate. Oh, nice headphones btw, you know someone is serious about music when he has some proper cans to enjoy it with.
