- This one took a bit of extra focus today. 😅 This is my first time featuring Radiohead on the channel, and we're starting with the official video for the song "Paranoid Android."
Watch the original video uninterrupted: • Radiohead - Paranoid A...

The animation is based on a Swedish series called Robin. English-dubbed versions were showing on Channel 4, and Radiohead were a big fan of it, so they commissioned its creator to create the music video around the adventures of his characters.
They gave him an instrumental-only version of the song and wouldn't let him hear or read the lyrics, as they wanted him to create something that fit the mood without being a literal retelling of the song.
I always wondered why the video fit the tone of the song, but never really matched what was being sung. Thanks for the info 👍
It was a thing in the 90s that music video directors would add some motif to match the lyrics, and it would come across as cheesy. One funny story I like is the video for the song Headhunter by Front 242 is packed with Egg imagery because the director misheard the song title as "Egg Hunter".
Interesting. I haven't heard that explained before.
Amazing! 27 years later I finally get it! lol
I’m actually such a fan of that, bcuz I hate music videos that just play out the lyrics, the Not Like Us video that just dropped is an example of that,
Great imagery but then literally just acting out the words - especially for a rap song too - is so pointless
„When I am King you will be first against the wall“ is such a powerful line, infantile and desperate yet revolutionary, and Thom Yorke delivering those lyrics is spot on.
But don't forget the rest of the sentence: "with your opinion, which is of no consequence at all"
First against the wall is origialy from Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, Whch is where Marvin the Paranoid Android is from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy defines the marketing devision of the Sirius Cybernetic Corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes,” "
@@stoatystoat174first against the wall predates hhgttg
@@Jeremy-hx7zj Yeah but they have talked about it alot that they were reading HitchHikersGuide to the Galaxy during the Ok Computer session. I think that they said that they took Karma police from there as well (maybe I am wrong on that one) maybe that was a phrase that they were just carrying around in the tourbus at the time.
Still get goosebumps after nearly 30yrs....
I would strongly suggest looking into their song Fake plastic trees. It is often overlooked but it's a masterpiece of a composition and a great showcase of Thom's vocal range and ability.
Yes, she would have a lot to dig into with analyzing his vocals on Fake Plastic Trees.
Often overlooked? It's literally one of the most popular Radiohead songs lol
Overlooked. Their most famous ballad. Was really popular when it came out and has remained as one of the most known Radiohead song, in the mainstream along with Creep, High and Dry.
You should fake plastic trees, its definitely one of his best vocally 🙂
It’s an incredible song but it’s far from overlooked. An overlooked track is worrywort for example
This whole album is magic
“Nude” by Radiohead from the Live From the Basement series is a killer track that really puts Thom’s voice front and center. 🔥
Particularly if you enjoy his falsetto.
I agree. But doesn't have to be from the Live From the Basement version. His voice shines just as well on the album version of In Rainbows.
Agree. Just a beautiful piece of music as well.
The live performance on Jools Holland might've allowed you to examine the physicality of Thom Yorke's vocal performance.
You beat me to it! 👍
You are so correct. In my opinion, that is the best live performance of this song.
For sure, it's own performance but just as good as the recorded version. Playing fancy guitar while singing too.
Absolutely agree. I recommend this too, and posted the link. I live this version.
I agree!
The rain down section live at Glastonbury as a deluge dropped from the sky was something else
There are a lot of amazing recommendations in the comments already but i have to add Radiohead - Nude (live from the basement) to the list. It is such an incredibly interesting performance with a heavy focus on the vocals and Thoms singing is truly angelic. His vocal riffs towards the end give me goosebumps every time.
YES
Any “basement” performance is amazing. Yes! Nude is a must.
I absolutely love Thom Yorke's voice. If you haven't heard "The Mess We're In" - his duo with PJ Harvey on the album Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea - it is INCREDIBLE.
One of my favourite songs EVER
One of my favourite radiohead vocals is, for my fellow oldies, from a show called MTVs most wanted and they covered 'Nobody does it better' by Carly Simon. It's ludicrous how much power and spite he puts in and totally changes the meaning of the song.
Thanks for the suggestion, gotta check it out!
"Paranoid Android", a masterpiece in three movements and the alternative music fan's answer to "Bohemian Rhapsody".
You need to do "Exit Music (For a film)" next.
Been to their Ok Computer tour in 1997. It was in summertime, the venue was sold to the last seat and I almost fainted. Went outside to get fresh air again. But the concert was one of my all-time favs. ❤
I was really waiting for this video, Paranoid Android is my favorite song!! :3
Weird fishes, Nude, Jigsaw falling into place
Thom Yorke Is not pitch corrected, he Is just an alien
Love this reaction!! For vocals…there are soooo many amazing Radiohead songs out there.
For live vocals, some of the best recordings are Live From The Basement. Their In Rainbows Album.
Also, there is a 95 or 97 Tv Live recording of him singing their song “Street Spirit” where they perform a more acoustic version. This REALLY shows his lovely vocals as well. ❤❤
I feel inspired by how you come across, you seem very salt of the earth :) There is something you seem to have (and i can't pin point it) but i wish i had more of. Love the videos! Greetings from The Netherlands.
pls do as many radiohead songs as possible, I love thoms vocal range and what love to hear what you have to say ✌🏼
Part III 😮 Really digging the Bass work on this especially just before "the drop"!! Bass and guitar going together NICE!! ♾️
My ongoing attempt to explain this song's meaning to people who don't recognize its pattern:
It's about having an anxiety attack in a bar. It's escalating line by line with increasingly violent fantasies about how to kill the annoying yuppie businessmen Thom's forced to listen to.
The music is too loud "What's that?" He doesn't really care what they have to say, and the anxiety evolves to panic.
Eventually, he blows up, probably in his head, but maybe not. You don't even know my name?! Off with his head! (Queen of Hearts reference, because it's self-depreciating) Only to learn that the thing he was mad about was unwarranted "I guess he does..."
Then he goes outside, where it's cooler, calmer, less loud, and he collects himself.
Then "Rain Down" turns to the British parent threat to their children "From a great height" as he contemplates the consequences of his panic attack.
So then the very funny bouncer comes out to tell him he's bounced. Is it real? Is it imagined consequences from an invented authority figure? Either way, inside, the piggies have been set alight, there's panic and vomit, yuppies are networking (the horror!)
The whole song is very self-aware, and very humorous. He mocks the anxiety as worrying about "unborn chickens in my head" right from the start. By the end, he's left behind a wasteland of record company gucci little piggies. This is Thom being as funny as he can be.
Thom Yorke - Bloom (Live from Electric Lady Studios) is well worth a listen. In Rainbows From the Basement is a great showcase of the whole band.
Yeah seeing him move during his vocals is something else.
Live from the Basement is the way to introduce a vocal coach to Radiohead ❤
I fast forwarded quickly just to see you reaction to the Rain Down section ^_^
That part when you said that it doesn't really sound like he is singing. That is where Thom is doing his Johnny Rotten (from Sex Pistols) or channeling Johnny Rotten if you will. He does it alot now and then. You can really hear it in Bodysnatcher on In Rainbows.
Thom has complete and utter control of his voice, he is magnificent in his craft
Vocals: 😌
Visuals: 😨
I suppose you can sum the experience of listening to that song for the first time alongside watching the video down to 10 seconds of silence and then: "wtf?"
It's amusing you pointing out how good his diction is right before saying "the what's this part". Thought that's what he was saying for years. Turns out he's saying "what's that".
best vocal performance by thom yorke/radiohead is the song "nude" from the album "in rainbows". there's a perfect live version "from the basement".
if you wanna do more radiohead reactions (- they always bring in the numbers ;)).
Thank ya dear ❤
Love hearing the way you break down the vocals, really makes /me/ see the song a lot differently! Would love to hear your take on the band The SLot, specifically their song mirrors (in English). Also I think you would get a kick out of Montaigne and their song Technicolor. Keep up the great work 👍
Thom Yorke is an amazing singer, his falsetto would take you to another dimension
I think idiotique off kid a would be a good follow up from this records companion album. Or off this record my personal favorite vocal track is climbing the walls. Its incredible.
When listening to an extremely talented band like Radiohead, I always opt for the live performances. Great bands always sound better live than canned.
Thom Yorke makes music that is better than his natural voice ability. He is an intelligent musician who uses his imperfect voice perfectly. It is like watching an old blues guitarist who can rip on the ax choose to solo on a harmonica or a studio drummer rock a bucket on a curb.
By contrast, singers like Vedder and Cornell who have so much natural vocal ability it oozes out of them do not have to be as intentional.
Radiohead reminds me every time I listen that it is the broken parts of us that make us special.
ELBOW! ELBOW!! ELBOW!!!
The song “Magnificent”
I am absolutely taken by you and your critiques of all these singers.
Your honesty and willingness to listen without judgment is refreshing in this era of malice and criticalness for its own sake is awesome.
Thanks for your channel.
Last appeal…..The band ELBOW is amazing and his voice is beautiful
So sorry but I couldn't disagree more. Seeing them perform this live on the Jools Holland is so incredible (th-cam.com/video/NzPtr_n-m8A/w-d-xo.html) . If anything, the animation is distracting.
Yes there is to much going on. And it takes away from the song. The music almost comes across as a background with the video.
Greetings from Peru, I love seeing your reactions :)
I heard that this was Thom's first and only take for the main vocal track? If that is true, it is incredible!
Could you do Radiohead songs: “Nude” and/or “the daily mail” - the live from basement versions. Some amazing vocals to consider there.
My favorite Radiohead song ever ❤
One of the greatest songs ever put to the world ❤❤
I want to suggest for you to watch Thom Yorke's solo, piano rendition of a Radiohead song called, "Bloom," recorded at Electric Lady studios. Or/also, his solo song "Suspirium" from the same session at Electric Lady. In both you can better hear the magic of his voice without the (important, wonderful, inspiring but somewhat distracting when doing a vocal analysis) overlay of guitars, drums, and such. Lastly, try the live version (from the Johnathan Ross show) of "Ingenue" where again it is just Thom and a piano. But truly, any of the suggestions made in the comments are bound to be bangers. I've been a fan of Radiohead since the first time I heard a couple of their demo songs on a college rock station played by an exchange student via England, around 1990. That's nearly 35 years ago!
Electioneering is perfect
'cool animation' haha this is one of the wildest music videos, and was of course super controversial at the time.
I would definitely suggest listening to OK Computer in one sitting, as it is conceptual and the songs all flow together to an extent. Not that you have to do an album reaction, as that'd be difficult, but I do think this is one of the best albums of all time.
Thom has a very unique timbre and style, so I would really love to see more Radiohead reactions! You could of course also do No Surprises, Karma Police, Pyramid Song, Knives Out, Daydreaming, Fake Plastic Trees, Just, etc.
I've been lucky enough to see Radiohead live twice, once for 'In Rainbows' (Vancouver) and once for 'A Moon Shaped Pool' (Berkeley), and I dare say they were spiritual experiences lol
Not related to this video but I have been enjoying your videos very much. I was wondering (could not find them) if you have ever done a video for the band Deftones? Just a little background from what I know.....I see you have reviewed a few of the bands from the later 90s like Likin Park and Korn, which are fine. Deftones were kinds before them, they were around much longer. Their use of rap/hip is more subtle but they kinda had scratching turntables and all that way back in the early 90s. They never got (I think by choice) as big as those other bands but are just incredible. I think you would really like the emotion in the singers voice. As a bonus, they have songs that were produced by the singer of Tool. They have an amazing song called Passenger that features him singing (I know you like him). Their album White Pony is often considered their best.
If you go with Radiohead, you gotta go to Muse and Placebo as well.
We can all see she was not ready for this video.... lol
"Nude" by Radiohead it's a very good example of his vocal ability. Thank you for this analysis
Try the song Nude from the Basement
this was decades ago. watch a live perfromance. they are phenonemal. for any genre.
motion picture soundtrack is their greatest they’ve work put out
In Rainbows - From the Basement (live): listen to him sing 'Nude' live - unbelievable.
The best band still active, they are just above the rest.
Subterranean Homesick Alien is my fav on this epic album.
If you want "different" and someone who sings primarily in service of the song and has bags of ability check out Mike Patton of Faith No More or Mr Bungle. From original songs / covers such as Midlife Crisis to Easy to I Started a Joke you would be amazed it was the same guy. Undeniable talent.
Can you do blackbird by Alterbridge? @TheVocalyst
I would suggest reacting to nude from in the basement. Its probably the highest quality vocals Thom has made
Raidiohead is intense. York's collab with PJ Harvey is brilliant too.
The bit where you said the pitch was changing but it didn’t sound like he was singing was very Johnny Rotten.
just nailed it.
tom's Voice is incredible, very few people can make you feel the way he does, check out exit music live, you will understand
Thom is a great songwriter, player and vocalist. Radiohead always inspired me deeply when I was younger. Sadly I miss his more harsh vocals like in you from pablo honey. Ok computer is just all good.
demonstrated stable sound performance
Thunk you for this song😊😊
it has nothing to do with the video but you should react to QWERTY from linkin park (especially the live version from japan), it´s and unreleased song that was supposed to be in the Minutes To Midnight album and it was the first time they showed it to the public and it was OFFICIALLY released on past Fryday, its crazy how chester could change his voice SO MANY TIMES from his distinctive scream to a clean voice
you need to react to QWERTY from linkin park (especially the summer sonic tokyo 2006 live version), its an unreleased song that they only sang on probably just 4 shows and it was officially released on past fryday, the way chester changes his voice its crazy asf
If you haven't already you absolutely MUST checkout Linkin Park - QWERTY Live from Tokyo!! It's an absolute gem!
No auto-tune mid 1990s… so any pitch correction was done by the singers own brain and voice.
Search for same song with Jools Holland typed after it. Would love your take on the live version
Would love to see you react to Burton Cummings. Love your channel. 🙂
Please could you stop the noise?
I'm tryna get some rest
From all the unborn chicken

There is actually live version that is so good. This cartoon one is just distracting. This is one of best songs made. Love it
I like Radiohead, but wouldn't say I'm their biggest fan. I have however been a rock singer in the past and enjoy trying to find meaning in songs. If you have concerns that autotune has been used, just look at the live performance on Jools Holland's show. It is so so good. As for the meaning of the song, I believe that it might be about the chaos of the world that the singer 'Thom Yorke' has been exposed to through his fame, and he hates it. He needs it, to be relevant and successful, but he truly hates it. He is at a divide as to the path to take. Does he distance himself from it and live out the rest of his days in a revolving nothing like most the other androids until he sees out his remaining days on earth. Does he get trampled upon. He is too depressed, empathetic and paranoid to live that life. Being a performer is what he was born to do. Or does he engage in all this fakeness, gluttony, trampling others to stay to the top. He needs to first be king before he can make the changes he wants to see. But in order to do that, he needs to play the game. He doesn't want to be the superhero but he has to, to make the world change, but in doing so he has to be part of the problem by living the way all these high fliers are living. Neither option is all that appealing to him. So, what does he do? It is driving him insane. "Please could you stop the noise", the voices in his head. The turmoil. Either path ultimately leads to misery. Or at least that's what I imagine it to be about
Recommend you to listen to nude, pyramid song, jigsaw falling into place, how to disappear completely….these are one of my favorites but there are others too….hope you can give it a listen
I wish people wouldn't say to watch this version, the video just always distracts the reactors.
An unfortunate bum-steer… I love your videos but that pales beside my deep (nearly 30 year) love of Radiohead… I’ve been waiting for you to analyse Thom’s haunting, melancholic, snarling, lullaby of a voice and though I do like their videos (always innovative and offering a fresh perspective) they are at their best live! Please please please please pick another of their (too many good ones to suggest) and do this again but on a live performance. I think you’ll get much more out of seeing Thom sing. 🙏🏼
Would love you to listen to the radiohead song A Wolf at the Door. I think the vocals are super interesting in that song.
You have to listen to ‘nude’ by Radiohead, very interesting vocals
I'm assuming you can't monetize this because of copyright. How can we support you?
Radiohead - reckoner 👈👍
The song is excellent by itself. No need for this cartoon video. The music and lyrics are strong enough to take you on your own journey.
You should react to Qwerty live Summer Sonic 2007 Tokyo by Linkin Park! In the chorus Chester screams and sings ever other line which is impeccable. Mike’s rap flow is awesome as well. Probably their heaviest song maybe aside from Given Up!
Honestly, you should probably just stop listening the people who want you to watch the videos 😂
Nude | Radiohead | From The Basement live please (or if not, have a watch on your own, nice vocals/amazing musicianship)
Re autotune: That fragility of his voice would have been squashed by autotune...
No music video next time. There's already too many things going on with the song, the video just becomes a distraction. Please do How to Disappear Completely, Nude, Fake Plastic Trees, Sail To The Moon, or Ill Wind.
I wonder what you'll think of elena siegman🤔
Please check out Fiona Apple with Elvis Costello - I Want You- live 2006. I think you would be surprised.
This video is weird.Love this song
Radiohead. Live from the Basement. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi - or Nude. C'mon now, it's time. You must react and analyse. It's time. Don't be late.
You were misdirected. Their performance on Later with Jools Holland is the definitive one. I think it was the first time it was played live and I think it was the first time anyone had heard anything from their(at the time) new album, Ok Computer. Powerful
This is what Dave Grohl had to say about it
th-cam.com/video/yTXJNG4DeA4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yl73LPPdU3FTT2bz
Please reaction Cakra Khan Lately from Stevie Wonder and I Surrender from Celine Dion
Can I request you to react to Silverchair? Try After All These Years. The Newcastle Live version is best.
"What's that" not "what's this". And Thom would rather cut his tonsils out than autotune
Hasta es un ending de anime
best album of the quarter of the century.....
you heard only Creep?
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around what I’m hearing and seeing.”
Welcome to Radiohead 😂
It took me about two or three months to figure that album out
Doubly so with this odd animation in the music video. To me there are two very different songs, the one where you are seeing the animation, and the one where you are driving at night with this song on and just get lost in it. I much prefer the latter, and I think the animation kind of takes away from where this song can take you.
I would suggest reacting to the entire OK Computer album as a whole rather than a few songs.
Definitely. The whole album is a full experience end to end.
Yep
I'd agree with that. Musically and vocally one of the most creative and awe-inspiring albums I've ever heard.
Absolutely agree!
Agree 100% its like a book and the whole thing has to be experienced.
