    i personally think jake gyllenhaal and ryan gosling are the two actors that perfectly play characters that are indifferent and emotionally dislocated. their movies are just so relatable to watch... another jake gyllenhaal film i'd recommend everyone to watch is "nocturnal animals"

      Recently I’ve been looking at certain actors differently, in a category of “can really bring it but doesn’t have to to get a pay check” and Jake Gyllenhall, Ryan Gosling and Colin Farrell, Adam Sandler as others examples are all on it. They’re good actors. Like really good. And they have delivered some incredible roles. But they also seem to be in a lot of projects that simply don’t demand or need a lot from them, so they don’t do a lot.
      It’s not a criticism in itself. We all have days at work and tasks that we do for the pay check. But I just think it’s a waste of their talent when we know from previous works that they can do so much more. And I blame the films for that, not the actors. If you make a bad film and expect actors to be good it’s just lazy and dependant. It’s one of the reasons I don’t watch films based on big names, it’s like a warning that they’re trying to sell you garbage so they’ve put all the budget into actors to draw an audience anyway and try cover everyone else’s failings. (unless is Nick Cage. I’ll watch anything if Nick Cage is in it)
      It’s not like, for example Adam Driver, Paul Dano, Robert De Niro, Daniel Day Lewis, who deliver even when no one else is lifting a finger. Which has its own problems because it makes even half decent films look bad because only one person is giving that academy performance.
      But I just thought it was interesting, to have range where you can literally try as hard as you’re being asked to. It’s quite inconsistent but not in a bad way. It shows an ability to adapt, if nothing else. They’re average parts of average movies and great parts of great movies if that makes sense.
      Also Prisoners is a film that really made me respect Gyllenhall’s work and at the same time I think as great as his performance was he was massively in the shadow of Hugh Jackmans incredible performance (one of his best in my opinion)

    Absolutely, he's one of the most incredible actors and so underrated. He puts everything in to his roles. I have seen all of his films and 99% of the time I think he carries the entire film. He's got an amazing attention to detail. He's so good on stage too as as a theater actor. Unfortunately though he is just one of those actors that doesn't get the amount of credit he deserves

    • @LeetTron5000
      @LeetTron5000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      a lot of his roles are all about him carrying the role. He plays a lot of movies where hes the main focal point like this movie and donnie darko and nightcrawler and brokeback. He always has a major part in the movie.

    • @TheSCPStudio
      @TheSCPStudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What other "credit" would you suggest than many major movie companies wanting him in their products over the years? I'd say that's credit enough, given that it's his career. Someone who works well in an office and gets a promotion gets the credit they deserve. Same concept. He's a good actor but he's just another person. Let's not act like people need to praise the ground he walks on for him to have his "credit". :)

      @Yeeyee even before spider man,everybody knew him but may b not from name.He was well known after prince of persia.Going into indie was his decision tho.
      Even at such a young age,he has achieved the title of "Elite actor". I mean i didn't keep tabs on him but was so surprised that he was in MCU considering he is above superhero films..but he got paid between 8-15 millions in FFH.that says a lot about him tho.

    Amazing video! Gyllenhaal blew me away with Nightcrawler. I’m intrigued with the movie you described. I’m gonna check it out.

    Another few films that come to mind for me are The Day After Tomorrow and Zodiac. I never see or hear anyone talking about these two films and I personally think they’re good films and that he’s great in them

      The day after tomorrow was just your basic disaster flick, but it was fun. Zodiac, however, was the shit
