Love that Brian is consulting with these other veterans of the sport. So many events or other elements of some competitions seem to be highly or completely oriented towards making 'fun' TV and not taking the athletes into consideration. Brian seems to really care about making this equally fair, but difficult, for every person who takes part in the comp.
shit I was not expecting the squat event to be made this interesting. I love Brian's focus on quantifying parts of the mechanics that can't be eyeballed.
I think this will be interesting, but I'm afraid that the complexity of how much slamming is allowed for the reps to count might lead to some confusion like the car leg press. Also, I think being able to use the bounce out of the bottom is just part of being a good squatter. Personally I'd prefer a straight up squat for reps with no pads and just have a side ref checking depth and giving the front ref the go ahead for another rep. I guess no matter what a squat event is difficult to ref
Not at all. Using the bounce well if efficient for getting big points but it doesn't make you the stronger man. A true squat ideally with a pause is the far stronger squat.
@@Adam-bw6dj Right, but my point was that using the bounce is part of being a good squatter. Just like strict pressing requires more shoulder power, but a proper split jerk is more efficient
Pretty much. Unless the implement can be leveraged in some way, like Kevin Faires did in the first or second Shaw Classic, those three are probably ahead of the rest of the pack.

The tolerance level for squat sounds like a good idea, but if it is eventually implemented, I hope that they will be able to communicate what's happening effectively to the viewers (we don't want another confusing viewing experience event like the first iteration of car leg press)
I'm pretty worried about this being like the car leg press with trying to figure out which reps counted. IMO Brian should either allow full rebound squats, or require an actual pause because this is going to get too complicated
@@cisrael468 exactly. Although to be fair, if the reps will be judged mostly by the scale/weight system, I think they could maybe set up a basic display that shows viewers the force or something, whether the rep counted and total # of reps. Ofc it would take some explaining before the event, but could be done nicely I think.
Now that people like me were proven right about the stupid and absurd squat machine being a disaster the way it was designed, what will be the response? This is why strongmen lift things and engineers design the things they lift. How do you regain integrity knowing that machine changes the results and maybe cost Thor the win? No it did cost him the win. 9 more points in the squat and take one away from Mitch and Thor won the smoe.
This is the greatest sport in the world and I've been a fan since 1999, 25 years, and I'm looking forward to this. BUT I hope Loz isn't commentating or anything, and the reason for that is cause he coaches a few who are competing, personally I don't like coaches commentating a show that there athletes compete in, and I'm all fairness aswell, Loz is very bias and pretty much always talks about Mitch when when Mitch isn't involved in something, even though we all know how good Mitch is, but to make everything fair ect, no coaches should commentate.
Hard disagree. I watched the 2022 Arnold's with no idea that Loz coached a couple of the athletes because there was no difference at all in how he commentated. I've since started watching his TH-cam channel where he's able to be more opinionated and talk about how his athletes training's going, but on commentary he's completely professional. A bigger issue is people like Chad Coy and Odd Haugen refereeing in the sport when they coach some of the athletes, but for commentary and MC'ing I don't see the problem. The insight he has as a coach is actually very beneficial for commentary.
That’s definitely not true idk what show your watching but he always been fair n honest with any commentator job he has done weather they his athletes or not
Also, why I love Brian. He has no crazy ego. guarantee you he takes so much advice from these three men right here with him. Plus, other retired strongman. Can’t wait for this Show. Literally, the strongest people in the world right now competing against one another in the strongest show on earth. Doesn’t get much better than this.
Quite honestly looking at the events it's shaping up to potentially be the greatest show in strongman history. Absolutely fantastic events, the only loss I can see is that Thor's overhead isnt at its best and that will likely lose him a lot of points. But there's potential for some massive lifts in this show.
OMG what
Load cells, sensors on the squat rack... Brian trying to bring Strong Man into the modern day. Nice work B, keep it going!
I thought Trey had a big squat
He's still recovering from an Achilles tear so might not be back to best just yet.
Yes!!! LOVE THESE EVENT BREAKDOWNS!!! Marine Mike 🇺🇸 💪
@@cisrael468 nobody cares about being the best squatter, we only care about who is the STRONGEST squatter.
@@eladrio2311 I kinda care lol that's part of what makes squats cooler than just a leg press
@@cisrael468 well sir, I guess our tastes regarding squats differ, have a good day
This is gonna be one of the most intense shows ever.
Absolutely 🔥🔥🔥💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Buh l think Yoke event should be part
Yeah And The Big Ole Pull Event As Well
This sounds awesome. You can see then wishing they had this. The force output is awesome , it’s like the heart rate from the plane/truck pull
This didnt age well. Half rep hooper
Moved it same distance as everyone else, he just bent his knees less and hips more.
Hatton, Thor, & Hooper will push each other and hopefully run away with it
Pretty much. Unless the implement can be leveraged in some way, like Kevin Faires did in the first or second Shaw Classic, those three are probably ahead of the rest of the pack.
@@Micheldied If Novikov is in shape I can see him doing well. He squatted around 900 at the arnolds a few years back and is always good at finding holes in events to get the most out of them
@@cisrael468 agreed, but I think we saw at Royal Albert Hall he's still far from his best. But maybe another 2 months is enough to get back to his best, who knows?
Thor will smoke all.
Great video!
Hafthor would still not have won.
Agreed and glad someone talked about it.
I'm now half way through this video and your comment makes even less sense. He's talking almost exclusively about Thor and Tom.
One of the referees literally coaches an athlete competing and you're worried about a commentator?
That’s definitely not true idk what show your watching but he always been fair n honest with any commentator job he has done weather they his athletes or not
Also, why I love Brian. He has no crazy ego. guarantee you he takes so much advice from these three men right here with him. Plus, other retired strongman. If they tell Brian, something needs to be changed. I’m sure he really listens to it and probably will end up doing it. Colin he’s crazy, but he won’t take any advice from the athletes. Lol.
Great coverage
That squat fear they mentioned wasn’t helped by JF Carons devastating injury recently! …eeesh! That was nasty
JF got injured on the dip of a log press. He smoked the squat.
Great conversation as always, so excited to see the look of that squat!! And agreed that the last squat in the Shaw classic was disapointing, redemption time for Brian!! Smash that 💥
Guys are going to be wearing different shoes, manipulating their bodies and foot placement and all sorts of things to try to game the squat height. Squat is always a joke. Anybody remember that squat contraption from a few years ago that that little fella just dominated without even actually squatting anything lol
Tom needs to win Arnold’s or Shaw to justify being WSM
So Mariusz Pudzianowzki isn't justified as a WSM?
@@A-A-RonDavis2470 Neither Mariusz nor Tom ever podiumed in the ASC, which for more than two decades determined who the Actual Strongest Man is.
Please read research papers from Dr. Terry Todd on their philosophy behind organizing the ASC. 🙏🏻
@@A-A-RonDavis2470 he’s a winner but is he really “stronger”. Now strength can be measured however way you like, but WSM isn’t heavy like Arnold’s or Shaw. I understand that it’s longer and more events but fine. You can win WSM but gotta win the heavy shows because they are the real test of strength
@@Nirsterkur Tom podium 3rd this past Arnold’s after Mitch , Mateusz
So Vytautas Lalas and Mike Burke are better Strongmen than Mariusz, of which neither of those have WSM titles?
Why complicate things and even make it an option to have wraps? Just have everyone wear sleeves and then there’s no questions about how this guy did this because of wraps and this guy did this because of sleeves. Simple
If I entered I’d probably win every event and the competition, rest day unfortunatley tho
Imagine telling Brian ten years ago that he will have his own strong man competition! Well done Mr. Shaw
Honestly, he probably saw a lot of his goals for the future. He has been selling merchandise and growing his businesses since he started Strongman almost 20 years ago.
Knee wraps shouldn't be allowed.
Bruh
They should just use a transformer bar with 800 of big cool plates, and have side judges call depth and count reps, crash pads for safety.
So Arnold last year?
@@A-A-RonDavis2470 You man the Double T Squat from 2022 ASC? Bring it on! Hafthor will Squat 1,000 for reps in that setup!
HATTON Thor and Hooper should be beasts in this
Funny if Tom doesn't screw the log up last year he wins the SMOE He won what 4 out of 8 events or something crazy
Everyone has their head up Thors a$$...lets see what he does...my predictions do NOT favor that guy
i keep expecting Eddie to pop up in the middle of the screen to add his opinion for some reason LOL
