I'm new to kumihimo and only discovered Pru a few days ago. I'm not really happy with the glued in method for finishing a bracelet as it just doesn't give the same security as this method of finishing. I've just ordered the book from her website on how to finish bracelets and make your own cone ends. Buying pre made ones you glue is not as cost effective as buying the wire in bulk and creating your own. Of course there will be times where I need to buy something more decorative but will be following this method of securing the ends before adding clasps. I've scoured TH-cam for videos on how to make kumihimo bracelets and by far Pru's are the most clear and informative. She's a good teacher and reminds me of how much better you do at something when your favourite teacher explains it in the best way.
This is a wonderful video, Pru! I wasn't doing the wiring correctly through the braid nor was I wrapping the loop properly for the clasp. Now I'll be doing more of these clasps!! Thank you!
Thank you Lynn. I am so glad you have found it useful. There are other variations of this method and I hope to be able to film some of them in the future. Some people prefer to wrap the wire around the braid, but all my methods involve piercing the braid, which I find very strong and secure.
That is a good idea for a future video. In the meantime I can give a quick explanation. Bind the ends together with thread or wire and pass the wire for the ending between the braids, inside the binding.

Harriet Russell - I usually use 0.8mm wire, which is 20 gauge. General jewellery wire, as sold in most bead shops, is not usually categorised by hardness. The more malleable the better!
what tape is best to use. tried using echelon but every time i cut off knot the echelon slips off the braid. struggle to tie knot with it ,difficult to see it so thin. using the same cord no good as too thick and it too slides off.
@@Prumihimo I find you way of explaining so much easier to understand and follow than some other videos that I have been watching, looking forward to making the time to watch the rest so I can expand my skills (I live in a horse drawn caravan, at present in a small woodland glade in Latvia - I'm a Brit though - and weaving and braiding are one of my ways of raising income as I travel, so finding kumihimo was a nice find, getting to grips with it, with the help of your videos, makes things even better :)

Yes, it is perfect for beaded kumihimo. You can either use a small end cone which will only cover the end of the cord, or you can use a larger end cone which would cover the first few beads. I think I prefer the latter, but it depends on the design.
been struggling for years to understand that loop wrap over pliers technique. awesome video. I feel confident to make the raised spiral bracelet for myself. Plain spiral leather in black and red for male friend. Thank you.
Thank you, Pru for your excellent video on ending a kumihimo bracelet with the wired method. It is the best video I have seen on that subject. The close up pictures are very helpful, and you go slowly enough that I can grasp what you are doing. I have been gluing my clasps on, but even with good ventilation, I find that I get a headache from the fumes. I would like to try this method. Plus as you say, it does give more options for clasps. The small amount of glue needed on the cord hopefully will not give me a headache.
Can I also use the wired method on a seeded bead bracelet? you're using it on just rattail but can it also be done with if the the bracelet is beaded? Thank you

Working with wire always gets better with practise because when you are more relaxed you tend to work the wire in a more fluid manner. I am glad you found the video easy to follow.
Hi Pru love your tutorials, I was wondering being a newbie to kumihimo, what would be a good universal size end cone to buy 11x9, 12x13 or would you go bigger or smaller. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Good question Linda. Some people like to use the cord zapper (stronger than the thread zapper) to seal their braids when using the glue method. However, for this wire method you need a really reliable seal at the end of the braid because the wire pierces the braid and is pulled against the seal in use. Wrapping and glueing is definitely the most secure option.

I would like to see how you attach multiple kumihimo braids to a large bead cap (like the silver one that has several braids in this video).

For nylon cord, after you cut you can also burn the cord with a lighter and the ends will melt together.

I’m not able to find the UHU liquid (only in a tube) adhesive here in Canada. Can you recommend another alternative brand Pru?

It depends on what you think you will be making. You will need slimmer cones if you want to make beaded braids.

Could a thread zapper be used as an alternative to wrapping and glueing the cord ends Pru?
