I always get a cup of coffee and settle back in my most comfortable chair to enjoy your tours. So nice to be led by someone who knows the right names of styles and periods! Keep it up !
I almost died in the beginning of November. Spent the majority of the time in hospital. These videos gave me something positive to do during this time. Thank you! Love the beauty of the houses and stories of the families that called the houses home.
I agree, its more than just a pretty house. There were some residents there but not by choice. Let's not forget our history. They are apart of the story too.@@afowler830
My goodness absolutely stunning. It takes my breath away. I don't know why I get so emotional when I see historic homes. Now this one is especially spectacular. Ugh I get shivers
That was not just a tour of a magnificent home. It was a superb experience. I will no doubt see it again my dreams. It is the definition of pure opulence.
Every detail was considered when building this home. Love it. I noticed the green Tara curtains on the landing. No dress making with those beauties. Thanks for sharing.
Scrolled down at the beginning of the video and saw your comment, for the rest of the video I couldn't help but imagine all the drapery being used for 1880 to 1910 period outfits.
The symmetry of the grand staircase is a jaw-dropper. I too love the sun room with hand-painted tiles, and the conservatory. It's interesting to compare the level of detail that could be achieved with tin ceilings, versus plaster. I do wonder what maintenance is required for the tin. The furnishings are beautiful and so tasteful. I have a china cup and saucer hand-painted by my husband's great-aunt Ethel. I believe it was a common activity for ladies of talent at the time. Great story. You were especially glowing over this one, Laine, and I'm not surprised. (Love your blouse...my favorite color!) Great drone work, Kevin. Thank you!
I always appreciate the drone footage. Gives a perspective you would never get walking in. Impressed by the amount of original buildings also. What's not to love in the house? I collect tea pots and cups. Overflowing 🫖😁❤️🤍💙
The green and gold curtains on the landing remind me of Carol Burnet’s dress in “Went with the Wind” saying I saw it the window and couldn’t resist. My family laughed forever over that line.
The Scott, Arkansas Dortches are my distant cousins. My Dortch ancestors moved to Kentucky from Virginia shortly after the Revolution. The land they settled on is still mostly in the family. This house is a masterpiece!
Wow! Such a grand place. Beautiful ceilings! Great details on the fireplaces and throughout the home. Everywhere you look there is something to see. Love it.
What a beautiful place. The house is amazing with all the antiques and tin ceilings. You both do such a fabulous job of presenting a property. It is so nice that the camera goes nice and slow and you can see all the details. Thanks also for all the history and tidbits. I learn something new every video I watch.
I toured this home in April 2021 and it was so beautiful. As we entered the front door we were greeted by the gracious owners, Beau and Martha Ellen, and their hospitality was amazing. We were served a refreshing beverage of Marlsgate 1888 Punch, followed by a tour of the beautiful outside grounds, then a delicious lunch in the dining room, and topped off with a tour of the vintage house. We learned a lot of history about the plantation and I would absolutely recommend adding this to your list of places to visit.
Absolutely beautiful home. I’m impressed that so much of the original buildings and land remain! I also appreciate that you showed the true “planter’s home”. So often people don’t realize that in most cases the word plantation was equivalent to farm, very few lived as Gone With the Wind would have us believe. My grandparents lived in one of those homes and although it had beautiful 14 foot ceilings, giant porches, etc. it wasn’t a mansion by any measure. Also loved that she painted china. My great grandmother painted china and I have some of it. I also have her antique French Haviland (service for 14) and it is clear to see that Haviland, Limoges, and Nippon influenced her greatly.
That was a treat for the eyes and a wonderful journey going back in time! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and appreciation for history, architecture and my favorite ... antiques!
Oh my gosh another gorgeous home! Absolutely LOVE IT !!!!!! The conservatory is to die for. And I’m a big China buff too. And that she hand painted them was great! I love the tin ceilings also. The upstairs pattern that Kevin loves is in my house also! I just wished they hadn’t covered up the stained glass with the curtains . That would be fabulous to see coming up the stairs. I love light! Thank you so much . I really enjoyed this tour!
Thank you so much for this tour. I have driven by Marlsgate multiple times to gawk at it, but I've never seen the interior. The ceilings are amazing. If you haven't been to Choctaw down in Natchez, the owner (David) used to own Marlsgate. He loves to show his collection of heirloom antiques, and he is very entertaining. Also, if you like half tester beds, there's a great antique store over in Alexandria, Louisiana (not far from Natchez) that has some nice ones.
Just breathtaking! If there is a place that defines Beauty, Marlsgate is IT! It is truly a magnificent place; and so is the host - a very pretty, warm and well-spoken guide who made the tour captivating as she tells the story.
Thank you for showing the attic! My inner child loves attics and as soon as I saw that round window overlooking the front entrance I had to see the world through it. I love exploring houses and this video gave me that feeling I'd get visiting friends and family and left to entertain myself as long as I didn't cause trouble.
For me, of the most beautiful house tours you have ever done. Love the style of antiques, wall colors, and pressed tin ceilings. The interior of the conservatory is just beautiful too. So lovely and peaceful. And I must say, Mrs. Dorchester in the paintings in the hallway at 15:35 look very much like you!! An interesting coincidence for sure.
I’m glad these homes are being preserved because I can’t imagine this type of style, scale and quality being duplicated much if at all in the future. They are times capsules.
Oh my gosh!!! I love that she hand painted China for so many.... that is so precious! And what a wonderful gift to have received! Gorgeous! I learn so much from you in every video, Thank you Laine & Kevin!
This is the most beautiful home that I have ever had the pleasure of viewing! It’s perfect! I would be so happy to live here. Thank you so much for the amazing tour!❤️
What a magnificent estate! The tin ceiling designs are incredible. Also, the fact that previous owner painted all that china & the tiles for the fireplace was pretty amazing & was so talented to do that work. Yes, the observatory would be a great place to hang out in! Thanks for the tour.
Aloha, have been watching your videos and this mansion is the most breathtaking thus far. I adore Eastlake and at one time had a home that I furnished with many beautiful pieces. The ceilings are phenomenal. This Lady is definitely the cat’s meow😻.
Thank you so much for this tour! It feels like I am on vacation!! Love these! I get overwhelmed thinking of all the decisions that were made in building/designing these grand homes.
What a lovely place. But …good gracious! There is a TON of furniture in every space. If the owners ever need money for repairs they can sell some pieces or suite off and not miss it. The window in the side entry door to the dining room - was it designed simply to mimic the other transom windows above the doors? Agreed- I love the Art Nouveau tin ceilings. Cool basement kitchen! I am surprised there was not a large space for a ballroom or gathering . Thanks for sharing.
That conservatory is my absolute DREAM! I'd never leave that room. My plants would be so happy out there! I could set up my studio there, make pots, tend my plants, and live happily ever after (with a fluffy cat or two, obviously). 🤯🥰💕
I love to guess the style of the home before you give the details. I'm not very good, but I'm learning! Your presentation was lovely, thank you so much!
That melon pink (or pink melon?) *glow to that master bedroom, the Autumnal field scene depicted in those tiles above the mantel in the family room , Kevin's favorite (I agree, thought dynamic) tin ceiling (third floor?), and as well - that very Victorian-in-feel (very "Crystal Palace-esque") hot house - my goodness! Yes, very special place. Thank you for the share.
Totally wowed by all the chandeliers, the tin ceiling tiles, and that conservatory! I have considered putting tin tiles on my ceilings, but seeing them all with peeling paint makes me curious why... anyway, they are all stunning designs. I could totally live in that conservatory, too! 🤗
Your videos are always a joy to watch. I'm always impressed with he knowledge that you have of the history of these beautiful homes and knowledge of vintage architecture in general. Excellent work!
Just a magnificent home. Everything from the staircase to the decor is simply stunning. Can u imagine growing up in a house like that?! And like u said, I'd like to go shopping in there too.😉 Thank you sharing!
This tour brought me nothing but pure happiness! This home is a masterpiece filled with treasure in history! You filmed it just right and captured everything that was important and more! I love how you explain and teach us so much in this video thank you ! I loved your Blazy commercial it was super adorable and now I want one or maybe a couple of boxes! Truly a beautiful and unique house is Marlsgate! Those pressed tin ceilings and that staircase are real treasures! The owner has certainly accumulated a great collection of gorgeous antiques.

I've lived in a Victorian with a swinging door into the kitchen that had a high window in it that no one could see through - there was an angled mirror near the ceiling inside the door in the kitchen so that servants could see what was going on in the dining room. It wasn't visible from the dining room.
That landing just screams a whiteflowing wedding gown with a long train and veil just following down that staircase as you walk gracefully down the stairs
