UPDATE: This home has sold! Come with us on the most amazing historic home tour we've taken you on yet. There is not a drop of DIY that needs to be done here. Nothing but history, gardens and luxury await you. Real Estate prices are insane across the country, but not in the South!
What kind of home can you get for sale just under 2 million dollars in the South? This 1800s Federal Era home is a piece of history- - soon to be designated as National Historic Landmark- in pristine condition. Referred to as ''Gloucester'' (glôstər), the estate, comprised of the mansion house, dependencies, dovecots and follies sits on 5.76 acres of land in the middle of historic Natchez and also includes its own cemetery which sits on an additional 2.28 acres across the street. The initial construction of Gloucester began in 1803. Gloucester was the home to the first Governor of the Mississippi territory, and the oldest of the Natchez mansions. The home consists of Scalamandre window treatments throughout, the oldest marble fireplace in the lower MS Valley, and the original summer kitchen perfectly intact from the time period. Gloucester is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Gloucester is as grand as the great estates of England, but for a fraction of the cost. Natchez Mississippi is a wonderful home town full of southern hospitality, charm and a fabulous vacation destination.

I just need to pause the video for a moment and say how much I appreciate that you say 'enslaved people' rather than 'slaves'. It makes it clear that this was something done TO them by enslavers, rather than just their state of being. It's a little touch, but it's so important.
I came here to say that. It’s an important distinction.
I'm glad you explained that. I would have never guessed that in order to be a slave, they must be enslaved. Such an important distinction that nobody under the second grade would have picked up on without you so eloquently pointing that out. Thank you so much!
@@bradclark2922 Well, I'm always glad to help the less fortunate, like yourself. So glad I could clear things up for you. Bless your heart, sugar.
@@bradclark2922 Well she had to do her virtue signaling
@@badasslove Thank you for once again proving that healthcare should be free and should include mental health.
I live in Biloxi Mississippi and I have been to Natchez on vacation before to visit these homes in person. They are breathtakingly gorgeous! I wish we still made homes this way today!
Who could afford to build this way? Very few unfortunately.
@@Ukie88 Not now 🙄
Taxes would take it out of your hands. Then the state would own, be closed and deteriorate.
@@donnar.m.devore3218 On a smaller scale; more than you think! Huge homes are a waste because do we really go in most of the rooms every single day and use them? Less is more .
Same
How great it is to see Gloster Mansion again . I spent a lot of time there in the late 80's . At the time it belonged to Dr Harold Hawkins and H. Hal Garner . I was an employee of the Dr. I also meet Delta Burk and Gerald Mcraney there . Good times !
@@badasslove don't blame the house for the owners sins. The house had no choice in being built.
@@badasslove Oh god. Let me guess, the house is racist.
@@audrab27 Exactly.
@@Xposthmous ...someone playing the racis card, uhmmm.
Weird that you spent time there, but don't know the correct spelling (Gloucester.) I'm not trying to be rude, just seemed strange to me.
Gorgeous home and piece of Southern history well-preserved. Restoration Nation never disappoints! Natchez is on my bucket list ❤.
It's, well worth spending several days in the area. There is so much to see from ancient mounds built by the Natchez "Indians," to American Revolutionary history, and, of course, and the history of the War Between the States.
Unbelievable that this outstanding and incredibly maintained estate....under 2 million dollars!!! In California that would buy you a non descript, rabbit hutch of a condo....amazing. I would consider it, but the ghosts haunting the home make that impossible. Good luck to whoever does buy this magnificent mansion...and bravo to the present owners for keeping it in perfect condition!!!!
The grandeur of this home is unfathomable! What a treat to see. Thank you for this beautiful tour🥰
I saw an abandoned mansion that was due to be demolished that had beautiful hand carved woodwork and beautiful fireplaces in every room.
Unbelievable that it is\was to be demolished. Inside would look better than this mansion. I think it's in Tennessee th-cam.com/users/AbandonedNashville
It is just incredible to me that this house is not even two million dollars! It is a treasure! I would certainly hope that whoever buys it treats it as the treasure it is, and maintains the integrity of this timepiece! What a gem! Thank you, as always, for sharing this with us in such a respectful and professional way. You truly care about these wonderful homes, and it shows!
PBS needs to hire you guys for a documentary series on southern architecture!!!
Okay I’m obsessed with the black marble! That is a stunning material!! 😍
Amazing how huge this house is and how enormous the rooms were back then. Would love to go back in time and see how people lived here. …
This is a beautiful home. It should be respected for the piece of art and chapter in history that it is. Thank you for the tour and the history lesson.
@@badasslove The maintenance of a landed gentry has always relied upon the exploitation of the labor of the underclasses, it is a military class that earned its position not through labor but through war. If you do not have the strength of character necessary to subdue and assert your dominion over other men, to exploit their labor for your own benefit, then you are not worthy of such luxuries.
Your empathy and weakness is a cancer upon a civilization that was forged in the fires of war and the glories of conquest.
This place is insane. I was wondering if the rugs are Karastan, but from the lavish furnishings throughout, they’re probably Persians. I’m drooling over them, and that incredible garden. I can’t imagine the cost to maintain all this. Hope it gets a good owner.
I watched this video quite awhile back. But, it came up again in my feed, so I watched it again today. This mansion is so beautiful and so amazing with it's history. They just don't build them like this anymore. I find it fascinating how they built this home, with this much style and grace in architecture ... 220 yrs ago. Today it still stands and still looks amazing. I wish I had the money to purchase this, or something like it.
That would be the dream
Natchez has so much to offer just in architecture. It is an American gem. Thank you for the walk through and the great explanations. Nice drone work too.
Stumbled upon your channel and I am LIVING for the tours
I sure did enjoy the view of this video. I was lost in time imagining how enslaved and residents went about their daily lives. Beautiful beautiful home. Back story is interesting as well👍🏾
This historical home needs a loving family to live in, to maintain, and to enjoy it, over the long term.
It sold spring 2022 and has great new owners!
@@tammypack3028 Thanks! And we do LOVE it!!
Natchez has such a diverse collection of historic architecture and all of it quite close together. Gloucester is across the road from the most famous of Natchez buildings the unfinished Longwood and down the way from the grand cottage called Hawthorne Place. There are hundreds upon hundreds of such buildings all sitting amongst rolling hills and sunken roads with soaring vines and trailing moss, staggering bluffs and clear bayous. It's haunting.
By the way the filming of this video was superb.
This is a beautiful picture into history. The house is so beautiful, and they did a wonderful job of mixing old with new in the kitchen and bathrooms. The whole time I was trying to picture people bustling in and out of the rooms. The woodwork is plainly beautiful as well. Gets a love from me!
@@badasslove wtf??
That is a lot of magnificence for the money! Thank you for a beautifully produced tour.
@@badasslove seethe harder
Wow. I am always impressed by these beautiful houses we have right here in the USA.
It’s a very beautiful home. Thank you for the tour. You are a wonderful guide through these magnificent old buildings.🌸
The home is beautiful, and the tour was fascinating. I am surprised that it has a less than two-million-dollar price tag. I can't even imagine how much money it would take to maintain an estate like this.
This tour was so fabulously done!! Loved every minute, gorgeous property!!
This is a beautiful home. I thought the arrangement of the dining room chairs was interesting. I have never seen that done before. Thank you for your explanations as to the different elements and styles ( the “windows” that could be raised for ventilation) inside the home. An elegant and beautiful treasure.
Unbelievable that a National Treasure like this could be bought for such a price. What a wonderful place to live in and raise a family. It has many Jeffersonian characteristics!
Just a stunning piece of American history! Beautifully preserved, & appointed! I mean, you had me at Baccarat Crystal chandeliers! 😆 But seriously, thank you for a WONDERFUL video tour & information. What a LUCKY person to be ‘caretaker’ of this home & property! And very inexpensive compared to other areas of the country! Thanks Laine & Kevin - great job!!👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
THANK YOU for showing the enslaved quarters/buildings and not shying away from this part of the home's history. You've done a magnificent job on the home.
Why would they need to shy away from anything? They aren't guilty of anything.
@@ednakelley814 Edna...you're a racist 🤗
@@ednakelley814 Nobody said that were guilty of anything! Sounds like your projecting. My immediate thought was ppl tend to shy away from it because it's an uncomfortable topic/part of history.
@@ednakelley814 You should ask them why they shy away. It's probably more due to discomfort than guilt. Either way, the full history of these properties should be told (and often isn't--glossed over, for the sake of "comfort").
@@charlesgibson7299 I agree the entire story should be told but a historic site can only tell what they know at that site. Most of the time there isnt even records of the names of the enslaved! I have seen historic sites that told the full story of slaves and people said "that's offensive and gloryifing slavery" .Then if a historic site "shys away", as you said, then they are accused of "whitewashing" slavery. So they are damn if they do and damned if they don't. You can't have it both ways.
Absolutely magnificent! Oh, that it were within my budget.
What a gorgeous property! The Harmon Blennerhassett you refer to was a native of Ireland and settled on an island in the Ohio River near Parkersburg, WV. The hone he built on the island burned but a reconstruction was created and is part of WV parks and open for tours. Love this vlog! Thank you.
Hello ! I’m from WV. Just 1 1/2 hours away from Parkersburg. I’ve visited Blennerhasset Island and when I heard Laine mention the name I wondered if it was same person. I remembered from the tour the story of his involvement with Aaron Burr. Thanks!
Hello Laine and Kevin! Love this superb lady! And you are such a good host. Love your voice and enthusiasm for these treasures!
And Kevin’s video expertise. You guys make my day
Beautiful. Beyond words. If only I could win the lottery.
I really like to experience a glimpse inside these gorgeous homes from the past, they are incredible. Thank you for bringing it to us! Have a blessed day. 😊
@@badasslove Oh how horrible it must be for you to be enslaved in that victim mentality mindset. That card is old and overplayed. There were Irish slaves, Italian slaves, and Chinese slaves not to mention what happened to the Jews. You are race baiting. It won’t work on me. Have a blessed day. 😊
@@badasslove by the way… I come here to enjoy looking at beautiful architecture and the wonderful people, Laine and her husband renovating these properties. It brings me joy in a world of chaos. Your poison is not welcome.
My mother's family is from Natchez where she hosted during the Pilgrimage. She was familiar with these old homes, frequently going to parties at various homes, and even living in one briefly. I recall this one though never went inside.
The furniture, the draperies, the woodwork!! So, so beautiful!!!
I can just imagine a Tiara Tuesday in this house..🤣
Beautiful home and history. The style of this video is so relaxing and Laine, your voice is so soothing with your knowledge. Felt like I was walking with you. Just curious if the drone shot in the beginning was Kevin's?
Thank-you for showing this beautiful historic home. Your voice and storytelling is perfect. I love you in Christ. Hugs to you and Kevin.
I could sit in that garden by the fountain for hours! So peaceful.
I’m speechless. Magnificent.
The owners decorated this beautiful house so tastefully. I can’t imagine trying to match the decor myself. Hop fully, they would be willing to part with some of the furniture for the new owners.
Such a wonderful job!!! You could try to sell these to PBS...for real you do such a fantastic job!!!
What an incredible home. Thanks for the tour, Laine! My appreciation for history and the architecture that housed it just continues to deepen as I learn from you.
@@badasslove Can I ask why you think this video celebrates slavery?
I love learning all about the families that lived in these beautiful homes!
Stunning! Thank you so much for this grand tour Laine and Kevin! I was picturing scenes from Sense and Sensibility playing out as we toured. ☺️ I truly wish built homes with this kind of character and beauty still.
...i love that movie, Sense AND sensibility.
I was also reminded of Jane Austen’s books too while watching this!
To have a whole library to choose from before I go to the bathroom is a dream come true.

Although this home has many painful stories behind it, it is beautiful. The beauty of the architecture is impressive. Thank you for such a detailed tour.

This was an amazing tour; the filming is superb. I hope the right people purchase this wonder. We drove by this mansion in the mid 80's, while visiting Natchez, and it is so nice to see her interior. Thanks so much for this love Thursday morning treat.

this is the most beautiful home I have ever seen for this time period! I am in awe of it's beauty
The upkeep must be tremendous. Yes, it is a beautiful home the next owner must be able to maintain this property.
Love these tours and especially your attention to detail, makes me more observant 😎
Also, love the aerial shots 🛸
Thanks for sharing this beauty. I really appreciate your passion for the homes and their stories. If this was in my budget would choose hands down over a new build, seems like a good value with everything your getting. ❤️
Wow! What a gorgeous home...
Lane this video was AWESOME! You are so adept at tour and narrative. Great images and it was like being there. These videos are so enjoyable to watch.
Beautiful! Thank you Laine and Kevin.
What a gorgeous & historic home. Your videos are wonderful!
thank you for sharing the complicated history of this beautiful home, when you do these tours it's a completely different, more serious tone. I almost feel like I'm watching PBS (this is a good thing!) . meanwhile, maybe i'm looking for ghosts but the shadow thrown by that baccarat chandelier is very spooky at 6:08. I know its probably just a trick of the light.
Thank you, to see and hear all the history of this beautiful place.
Thank you for the tour. I love the marble fireplace and the staircase in particular.
G’day Laine, thank you for showing this gorgeous property. I was surprised that the kitchen off that huge dining room was so small. I kept waiting for another larger one to appear! I guess with so many rooms another could be converted into a larger kitchen. I am looking forward to seeing you and Kevin doing some more work on Pearl. In the meantime take care and stay well. With love and best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🇦🇺
Another great video because it's an eye opener to how our nation evolved and what led to the nation's wealth in general. As a nation we are so polarized politically, especially now with social media that it's separating us as nation. I won't go on about that agenda but being from the West Coast for 3 generations I really appreciate your videos because I love history and learning. Despite not being Real Estate agents, your sharing of these amazing Southern and American national treasures always makes me research more and enrich me so that I have more understanding of our country and it's people. After this video I went on to watch more videos of this house, including the murder on the back porch during the Civil War and Natchez Mississippi. Thanks again for all you share on TH-cam. I Love your Chanel .
