  • Another My Life in Africa WINGING IT tour, the idea behind these tours is to literally make no bookings have no planned itinerary other than an idea and direction. We pick our first nights stop and decide where to from there...
    This WINGING IT tour we ended up on the longest 4x4 route that South Africa has to offer, the Namakwa 4x4 Eco Trail. A fantastic journey down the banks of the Orange River (now known as the Gariep River). This trail provides travelers the freedom of choice, the choice to choose where you want to camp, and where exactly is that you may ask, well anywhere you like on the trail itself, the options are unlimited. All you need to do is pick a spot that tickles your fancy and well you then just need to setup camp.
    The route is not harsh driving, although there are sections that can be demanding on your vehicle and skill, thick sand, dunes and extremely sharp rocky sections where caution is required.
    Follow our 14 day journey through some of the finest country side South Africa...and maybe Namibia has to offer. There might even be a shipwreck or 2 we visit along the way.
    The first part in this epic series will give a detailed account of what the first part of the Namakwa Eco Trail, Poffadder to Vioolsdrif is actually like. In order to successfully drive the Namakwa 4x4 Eco Trail you need to be 100% self sufficient as supplies cannot be bought on route other than small items purchased from local grocers.
    Sit back and enjoy our journey :-)

    The hottest place in SA is Goodhouse, as per Stevenson apparatus. 2nd is De Hoek near Piketberg, worcester, Oudtshoorn, Kirkwood. Upington is cooler.

    Shux man, if I had actually booked the camping spots on the trail and you pitched up "winging it" I can't say I'd be stoked. Respect nature bru, be lekker, get a permit in advance.

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We tried to get the permits before we went on the trail, the offices were not open, we ended up paying for the permits after the trip, it was not for lack of trying before. We never camped near anyone else, nor would we have should someone have been in the specific spots...

  • @jonathanyates8826

    How can one book for this trail ??

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can book it through Northern Cape Tourism offices...

  • @horeamarinescu1016
    @horeamarinescu1016 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you have to book? Or get a permit?

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We didn't as we didn't know we were going to end up there 100%, permit office was closed so we ended up paying after the trip.

      @@MyLifeinAfrica i assume there is no cell reception? Also how long does it take to get from the start of the trail to the first campsite? I ask as Im leaving cape town and want to knof if I should camp in Pofadder or somewhere before heading to the trail.

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is cell reception here and there but not all the time, your first camp is literally wherever you want to make it, there are the "main" known camps but anywhere next to the river is suitable to camp, if you go over the pass you can be at your first camp spot in about an hour or two...

    • @horeamarinescu1016
      @horeamarinescu1016 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see thanks. I spoke to the people regarding bookings and they said I have to choose the dates id like to be at my camp etc and make sure im there on the day that Idike to be there. Reason being they are fully booked.
