Downshifting should be the main focus in trucking school anybody can up shift!

I totally agree. I focused on pre trip and the various parking because those were my weakest areas and all the practice paid off. I did get pass pre trip and skills test but failed miserably on the road driving. I was literally fighting the gears while downshifting. I wasn't matching rpm and road speed with gears.

I passed my CDL in July 1972. I've driven off and on over the years. My CDL came in handy during my Army years. I taught others to drive.

Finally dawned on me the sweet spot determines upshift/downshift.Wow. Love this video. Only video seem with downshifting. Clutch neutral, accelerate,clutch gear.Awesome job.

Yesterday was my first day of training behind a 10 speed. After watching this video today I have a better understanding of how I need to shift & rev up my rpms. This is the only youtube video that gives you a clear understanding. You are my true youtube instructor. Wish i could have gone to your school. You are the best. But I live in TX. I train Friday for my cdl license. I will be watching this video everyday up until.
After watching this video yesterday, it really helped me to shift into gears & understand when to shift.

I went to truck driving school in 2017 and my first time driving a truck on the road with a manual was this week.. The first place they send me was the gorge and North Carolina / Tennessee. Once i figured out the RPMs to shift i was flying thru.

Yesterday was my first day in the business( on the road) after some month looking for work after passing the school, all the way up from lakeland, Florida to up state in New York, my only problem always was about how to handle this combination between RPM and down shifting, the best video ever, 5*****

Man iam not just saying this this is the number 1 video when it comes to simplifying down shifting and up shifting I see you can use neutral alot then go into gear when some people just float threw the gears I think using neutral and paying attention to your speedometers is good tactical way to go about driving a 10 speed.
Hope this school gave satisfaction to students who deserve to go forward with trucking.

You will not be able to shift one of these without hours and hours of practice. It’s harder than it looks at first, but once you get it it’s extremely satisfying
Ignore Jeff, I'm going back to school to get restriction lifted. I learned over the course of 4 days with about 45 minutes in the truck each day.guy that trained me had me go 1 thru 6, then downshift back to 1. Really helped me get the feel of double clutching with that much repetition.

RPMs is great at first but soon you hear the engine and can instinctively shift down based on lugging or the laboring sounds coming from the engine. Slow slow slow to shift down. Hard to think about not touching brake coming down and revving fuel instead. I started in the truck first for a month... more forgiving than the simulator but first starting simulation can be a lot safer. Great video!!!!

This is the first video I have ever seen of a large truck training simulator. I know that there are all kinds of simulators, including automobile simulator, diesel locomotive and train simulator, airplane simulator, and there are even sea going ship simulators.

It's always a good rule of thumb when downshifting to wait until you're around 5mph under the upshift adding spot. Example, downshift to 7th around 20mph. You would upshift at around 25, 2+5=7th.

I learned as well during uphill fully loaded, when you downshift into first gear without releasing my foot from accelerator instead it continous in high rpm when do the down sshift.

With the 10 speed there's four hundred rpm between gears but you're not continuously watching the tachometer. Once you get some experience it becomes muscle memory between your throttle foot, the engine sound, and vehicle speed. You start to know what gear to shift to by how fast you're going, and what's ahead of you. After you get some experience you'll be floating gears because your own experience will tell you at what point the next gear will mesh with the next without grinding and twisting the drive line. The trucking companies want you to double clutch so you don't tear up a $10,000 transmission.
Maybe that's why trucking schools don't allow you to float gears instead double clutch

I was wondering Im in school and while driving we dont clutch in between gears only if we get stuck, Im confused, I wonder if I go to school doing this next week they may look at me like im crazy.
That depends on your examiner. I floated my gears for my CDL test.

Hardly any vids out that teach this, but how would you approach coming to a complete stop? Do you coast in neutral (granted your speed is low enough), stop completely, and then clutch to the floor and get back into gear? or will the engine not stall if you leave it in gear and come to a complete stop? I’m learning to drive 6 speed manual straight truck.
I'm in school now for driving truck and the rpm range isn't the same for all trucks, each truck and transmission prefers to be shifted at a different rpm. Your also very slow with your double clutching, you would be missing a gear or two and losing so much momentum with shifting this slowly
Haha I'm in school too and I've been working for a month at a company that hired me on with my permit, theres a guy there trying to tell me when to switch gears and it's his first week, you remind me of him lol
