I know how to downshift now because of this video.. my only two problems I can't downshift from 9 to 8, Second promblem my hand keeps coming off the gear when im shifting.

2:52 It isn't called a T bar its called a range selector
Where I'm at they all it's splitter.
@@LastExile1989 splitter is the thumb switch on the side of the knob. range selector is the switch that flips up and down on the front of the knob.
@@fakiirification Only manual I've driven was a 10 speed freightliner cascadia didn't have a thumb switch. I was taught range selector and splitter were the same. Thanks for the insight.

Does it also for with 18 speed?
then when REAL trucking starts, you leave this silly clutch to neutral clutch to gear behind and learn to float. It'll take some time and you'll see how it's just the way a truck should be driven.

Hello, I have been following your videos, very helpful so thank you very much. My question is...can you skip down shift gears, for example from 8 to 6 or from 7 to 3 WHILE STOPPING?
Once you are stopped then you can change ur gears to what every you would like
@@CDLDrivingAcademy no I can't. I have to reset back to 3. If I start in any gear well that's impossible because rpms with each gear.
What happens if I'm in 10th gear and have to make a stop at an upcoming red light?!!
Clutch and break until you come to a full stop, and then reset your gears.
You can just use the break until you hit 15 miles an hour and then when you hit 15 miles an hour you can use Clutch and Brake
Can you down shift out of order. Say from 10 to 6 after you drop speed?
We dont recommend it
good way to blow an engine with overrevs if you misjudge your speed and gear.
Is the clutch depressed when your pressing gas?
should be in neutral. clutch> move the shifter out of gear> release clutch> blip throttle (neutral between gears)> clutch> move shifter to desired lower gear >release clutch> coast to reduce speed + jake brake for more engine braking.
I have a question let say you in Fourth gear and you coming to a stop sign do press the breaks put in natural ? or coast to a complete stop?
Come to a stop in gear, then go into neutral.

I was hesitant to keep watching when I saw the simulator setup but your repetition actually helped me understand and complete my first real downshift pattern, neat! I think I'll stay in my excavator though, much more comfortable! Haha

Please clarify that while downshifting should we monitor rpm and speedometer?what if we try to downshift from 10 to 6or or 5th gear?
I for the most part can downshift but now for me its when to properly start down shifting, like if I'm in 8th gear heading towards a stop sign how close should I be before I start downshifting?
U have got to be running different speeds an certain RPM before u can downshift.
if you focus on the rpms then the speed will take care of it self

Hi Zougari. Clutch and break. Come to a full stop. Once you come to a full stop, then you reset.

Every driver says never to gas it during shifting but all these videos say to step on the gas, I don’t get it. I have been driving for a week now and I never have to do it the way it’s taught on this video.
if you clutch in and out at the optimal speed for the change, its unneeded. sometimes people, like myself, clutch in and out not at the optimal rpm for the change.
sometimes I'm pierce but most times I need to rev up to get the rpms at the right apot...that's where knowing this pattern helps. I had problems getting back into a gear because I was trying to get it in, but was forgetting to rev up. But then, after finally getting it in and thinking what i did wrong, i remembered this pattern.
So now I downsift better. I can get it perfect at times and when its notoerfect, I immediately revert back to this pattern.
Hello! You showed downshifting when truck slows down. But what if I need to accelerate my truck for overtaking the vehicle ahead of me? I want to shift from 7th to 6th to be more fast using higher RPM, so what should I do? Use the same way you showed but after clutch off press the gas? But truck might jerk.. Or I should use clutch and gas at the same time in this situation?
That works for a car, it does not work for a truck. Remember, you are moving 80,000 pounds and you will not get that kind of reaction from downshifting.

Is there any specific rpm you’re suppose to hit before going into the lower gear? Or just raise the rpms in general?
I’m fine with the pattern and the mechanical parts of shifting my issue tends to be actually getting it into said gear.
You want to hit the general rpm of the gear you are shifting into. Say you are in 6th at 1000 rpm. At the same vehicle speed you would be at around 1350rpm in 5th. So you need to rev the engine to ~1350 rpm and shift. Luckily it doesn't need to be that accurate unless you are floating gears, in which case it needs to be almost perfect. But you want to be in the ballpark. It's no good if you rev it to 1800 rpm when you only need 1400.

Is the clutch applya while you going up in a hill very incline with a heavy load ? Still use the clutch you mentioned ? Cause what I want is to not lose too much power so if for that is acelretiing instead of clutch I need to know which one is the best please

At the school that I’m in they do break , wait till the engine shakes a bit then clutch in then gear ... and when I did this same exact method clutch , neutral , gas , clutch then gear work way better .

why is this being shown in a simulator? should be using a real tractor for this video. the transmission isnt going to react like a sim. wont feel the gears
Hello friend, the simulator is useful for getting students acquainted with shifting prior to getting in a real truck. This avoids grinding the gears.
What does the rpm have to be at for the gear to shift in place easy as possible with out any grinding?

I'm in school currently. I can upshift really well and I can do it without grinding or missing any gears but i can't downshift to save my life I know what to do but I cant get my feet and hands to work together. This video was helpfull. Thank you.
