Making of a Custom Rainforest Themed Figure Skating Dress

- Follow along as I make from scratch a figure skating dress with a rainforest theme. I’ve been sewing since I was a kid and have made all of my own skating dresses. I didn’t have a lot of money and so sewing my dresses was a way I could afford to have something special. It is such fun to be able to expand this creative outlet and make skating dresses for others, and it presents me new challenges and opportunities to perfect my skills. I hope you enjoy the video!

You make this look so easy, although I bet it's not! As an adult skater who has a hard time finding dresses that fit adult bodies, I've been interested in learning to sew to make my own.
Which kind of fabric did you use for the skin-colored and the flower parts? It looks so pretty, I love the color scheme!
Thanks! I was going for a rainforest theme, within the colors that the skater liked. The fabric is a 4 way stretch nylon mesh.

Thank you! I actually taught myself! When I was a teenager and had to pay for everything myself, I couldn't afford the expensive custom dresses, but I knew how to sew. So I started making my own dresses, they have gotten a lot better since then. lol.

What materials did you use?
(The purple fabric, elastic and rhinestones is what I was most interested in)
The purple is a 4 way stretch Miliskin Matte Tricot from Soandex house. www.spandexhouse.com/solid-colorsnylon/milliskin-matte-tricot-four-way-st/
Rhinestones are Swarovski and I get them wholesale from www.rhinestonesu.com but there are a lot of other places to get them. If you haven’t applied stones before then be sure to check out my video about how to apply stones! 🙂

Great video. I am adept in sewing, so even without explanation, I understood what you were doing. I didn't see if you used a patern before cutting the fabric. If you used a pattern, maybe in your next video, start from the pattern? Thanks for providing the link to the Spandex house. I checked it out and I saw the color that I've been looking for that I couldn't find in my local fabric store.
ThriveDiaries they don’t sell that brand, nor a fabric that is 80% nylon 20% spandex. Is lycra or bathing suit fabric similar? Or what would you recommend?

Yes, the elastic around the leg hole will keep the dress from sliding up.
Ok so the circumfrance of your skirt waist is the same circumfrance of the leo waist, with no gather?
How long does it take on average to make a skating dress, plus putting all the rhinestone on it ❤️ thanks.
Just saw this! For me, I sew very fast so I can usually get one done in a week, but that is unusual. Most of the time you can expect that ordering a custom dress will need a few months lead time before your event n

Hi could you tell me what size of rigstones did you use? I think that there are diffrent one but I'm not sure what size should I buy, it would be easier to decide if you tell something about it. Thks
I usually use 20s, I accent with larger stones like 30s or 34s.
