Interesting. My mother loved Mary Small and Vera Lynn and then it happened.......Lana Cantrell, simply the best (well, there is Whitney Houston), and while my mother is dead now, she nor I have ever heard of this woman but I must admit, she's really good. I wonder what my mom would have thought BEFORE Lana. I have been enjoying her videos. And (sorry Lana) but she reminds me a bit of you!!! I love class in music and culture and as one said below, "the good old days". Absolutely.
+Keith Smith Thanks for clarifying that I thought it was something like that. Miss Maughan is wonderful can't say the same for the set though. I am sure you will agree.
Prob most singers got lung cancer , if played in small places a lot in that era. Cigs were compulsory , by the look of it. ( My parents of that era, & they same ).
Agreed - but it was the mid 60's, it was an ITV show and they liked to appeal to the working class. Set in a pub setting, I read that the TV channel even provided free cigarettes. The early 70's gave us the Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club (also ITV) with it's similar working mans club backdrop. By the end of the 70's, The UK was changing, and this kind of programming became unfashionable.
@@billmulvihill8452 The Beatles were a bigger act than her by this time. 'Make Him Mine' could have been a promising start in a new direction, but she didn't sustain it.
CrankCase08 I agree, but the tsunami wiped out almost all of the girl groups and individual singers. “Make Him Mine” was her greatest moment. Funny thing she appeared on the same show as the Beatles and was friends with them.
@@YorkyOne Indeed so, but female singers who adapted to the times had continued success, such as Dusty Springfield and Shirley Bassey. I remember as a kid in the 1960s hearing Susan Maughan singing dated garbage on 'Workers' Playtime'.
60s music 🎶 🎶 what more is there to say so many memories
Susan has a lovely tuneful voice. The crowd drinking & smoking made me laugh.
Singing like an angel, in a room filled with cigarette smoke. Amazing.
How gorgeous is she! I always thought she was American when I was kid. I was amazed when I found out she's actually British lol.
Brilliant performance. She had it all....
Fabulous, sung beautifully, very much of its time and still sounds great today! Tremendous big finish too!
The voice ,the looks, shehas it all
2020 still sounds great
Excellent Ms Susan Maughan 🎉 Tops🎉
those were the good old days
You could smoke anywhere and say and think what you like,it's all been destroyed by millenia
Wonderful singer ! xxxxxxx
This video made my Friday Night! That vocalist! That song! That gorgeous blond in the bouffant hairdo at 1:11!
This song brings back memories
great vocals & sound for a live version .... loved the pint of ale on the newel post.. lol
Such a beautiful soprano voice. I feel terrible for her having to sing in that smoke-infested place!
I love it!

Brill !!!!!!!!
Love the guy with the tab!
This is from a TV show called "Stars and Garters" for which the studio set was a fictional London pub.
+Keith Smith Thanks for clarifying that I thought it was something like that. Miss Maughan is wonderful can't say the same for the set though. I am sure you will agree.
Dam it was fictional but they were still smoking cigarettes 🤦🏻♂️
Miss Maughan is the best as always but the set is rubbish!!!!! She does her best. Love Susan Maughan.
It is amazing she doesn't gag with all that smoke.
I'm just coughing with the smoke..
The compère is Mr Ray Martine.

You'll often find that many singers smoke because it can help make a singing voice even better, which could be why even Enrico Caruso did it.
from a little town CONSETT she's great
Looks like everyone there fancies her lol.
smoke central
This song so beautiful the original was kitty kallen
Good song, but Jeez - the settings ???

davexnet 1:41 Not only free cigarettes but free buffet too! This guy has run out of hands!
Smokey joes in there … times have changed
Dead ringer for Donna Loran.
Very good , but I prefer Kitty Kalins version.
This was her mistake. She failed to change with the times.
Yeah, she should have hired the Beatles as her back up band!🤣

The Beatles were a bigger act than anyone by this time!

I was ready to denigrate Susan, but have to say it’s as good Kitty Kallins version.
Can I bum a cigarette buddy.
It's England so it might be - "Any chance of cadging a spare fag, mate?"
The singing is great ~ but the band is awful.
how dare you say that the band is doing its bloody best theres only 5 of them what do you want a bloody orchestra in there lol
are there any vids of her now in 2018? love to see/hear her now!
