    I hope in a future video Geofatboy you might let us all know how frequent we should be maintaining our strops with these products... I know it's for softness of the leather... but how often would you use this stuff and how do I know I need to start applying it to a new strop thats already been treated before I purchased it... Who knows how long it sat around before it was sold? Thank you for your experience... I appreciate it!

    Geo, does it makes sense to apply the strap dressing first then apply the leather balm on top of the strap dress. Or just do it like you showed on this video. Could this be used on a knife strop. And what about mink oil. Do you recommend using mink oil on a strop for knives as well.

    Hello Geo, I have a question. I see the you're applying the paste to the one leather side.
    My question is: The strop will always have the paste on the leather side? Or can I use the canvas side to apply the leather and leave the leather as is?
    I'm planning to acquire that same strop and bar from your site and I want to be clear before making mistakes.

    Great job there Geo. Just a quick question for all of you. I know those balms and conditioners are specifically designed for leather strops. But, how about a conditioner for leather sofas? It is supposed to do the same thing- conditioning. Right? I recently bought a second hand strop that looks just like new. I am not sure if I have to condition it before use. The main question is how to disinfect it?? Can I use rubbing alcohol or I would ruin the leather? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Geo I am new to the straight razor community. When would you use chromium oxide bar with strop. Will you use it everyday, weekly or monthly?

    • @MichaelGrant_mlkgrant
      @MichaelGrant_mlkgrant 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Monthly... or weekly, but NOT daily.... over sharping a razor can have a negative effect on the razor's edge! Some people hone their razor's monthly... but if you have a great hone you should be able to maintain that edge for 3 months with daily stropping and weekly Chromium Oxide on the suede side of the strop or the linen side... I wouldn't use it on the leather side... that's for daily stropping... and it's something like 100,000 grit or something like that... NO reason to mess up a perfectly good leather strop unless you have several and it's not an issue.

      @@geofatboy Hello Geofatboy this is Tom from UK as I am a new to Straight razor shaving and only have used cartridge razors and double edge razors I was just wondering if using a straight razor for the leather strop do you require/ need to apply both the strop dressing and leather balm every once in a while or if you just have the leather balm is that fine? It would be very useful if you could possibly give some starting advice when to use the two or just one of the products. • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't see why not. I put Neatsfoot oil on my baseball gloves then put a ball inside and tie it up to help form them and break them in. Been doing it since I was a kid. Keeps the leather nice and soft and pliable and prevents it from drying out.

    • @SuburbanSelfReliance
      @SuburbanSelfReliance 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geofatboy thank you for the reply. It is very arrid here I Denver. If I don't keep up on some sort of conditioning my strops get all cracked fast (just bought a replacement from Shave Nation!) I was thinking about something a little more oily and readily soaks Into the leather to add to my conditioning regimen. I have also read that animal based oils/conditioners help as well.

    • @MichaelGrant_mlkgrant
      @MichaelGrant_mlkgrant 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In some areas using Neatsfoot Oil is not helpful it doesn't do what it's intended to do... I read an article on Neatsfoot Oil on Wikipedia and it said it can end up rotting the leather with prolonged use... or even drying it out... So I've decided not to use Neatsfoot Oil for that reason!
