    Excellent video on stropping. In most vids out there, the guys want to show you how the can make the blade sing when stropping. The singing sound though comes from raising the back whilst stropping...and than you strop in a wrong angle. The sound needs to be muffled. Only then the back of the razor is in full contact with the strop and the angle is right.
    Excellent job as always Geo!!!

    This was one of the first videos I watched when I first got into straight razors. Now I’m like a year into it damn near a pro!
    I honed three razors myself on my Naniwa Super Stones. And I barely ever use my stones now because I only have To vintage Razors I’d like the recall dollars and I mainly use safety razor so it’s gonna be a while before I have to touch up one of my razors. I used to alternate between safety razors and straight razors but now I might think about doing at least one straight razor shave a week now

    • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chromium oxide is of a very high grit and will put a polished edge on the blade. Most put it on the webbed or cloth, but some apply it to the leather. It is strictly personal preference.

    Hey Geo, as someone who has struggled with razer burn and bumps for a long time, do you have any secret tips to minimize? Even with the hot towel, pre shave, good lather, and post shave it just seems to never get better. Then subsequent shaves make it worse again. Thanks in advance

    • @StanleySweet14
      @StanleySweet14 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Bro the secret is go slow and understand your wrist is the hinge for the blade just like the hinge on a gillette 5-blade. Thus, shaving without burn is really a practice of getting that 30 degree angle, pulling the skin taught and shaving. You will feel it when you get the razor burn. Don't shave if you can feel it.

    I have just bought a new leather strop. I haven't used my straight razors in a while, I have a TI paste, however, I just realised I have the Green Chromium Oxide Paste which is rated at 0.5 microns and the Red oxide paste rated at 0.1 micros. My two TI razors are very close to shave ready. but my dilemma is I have just one leather strop, with one leather side and one cotton side and Three compounds ie TI paste, red and green powder. Which compound would you recommend I use with my new leather strop?

  • @trunkerdixon
    @trunkerdixon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The benefit of applying the CrOx to the inside of the linen side is that it doesn't get all over your hands every time you strop.

    • @jerbus7956
      @jerbus7956 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Diego Alberto Jimenez Disposable blades don’t not need sharpening. In fact, I would warrant that attempting to strop it may result in damaging the strop. If it feels like the blade you are using is tugging on your face, then replace the blade.

    Should I put balm on my strop after every use ?

    • @user-uy2jj2lg5i
      @user-uy2jj2lg5i 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You shouldn’t have to. As long as the strop leather’s high-quality and undamaged, all it needs is a rubbing with a clean, semi-moist palm. The natural oils will help to condition the leather and keep it supple. For balms, they’re only needed when a strop’s getting dry (ie, hasn’t been used in a while), or a periodic refresh once or twice a year to keep that from happening.
