  • I went to some high mountains beaver dam ponds to see what I could catch and find. I flipped logs and rocks to find spotted salamanders, red spotted newts, red efts, and red back salamanders. I also heard many frogs and saw some ducks and geese that were utilizing these beaver dam ponds for habitat. I also stumbled upon a Geocaching site along a beaver dam, that was a first!

Agreed! Beavers are crucial for creating habitat to a bunch of aquatic species!

Those beavers and amphibians have found the quite the beautiful spot up there! Looks very scenic and secluded. Not familiar with geocaching, but interesting find! Hopefully it doesn't take 5 more years for the next person to find it 😵‍💫

It’s beaver heaven there! Same here- I wonder if the person who put it there comes back after a certain number of years to retrieve it? Who knows- maybe I’ll go back in 50 years and it will still be there

What month was this? Don’t those spotted sallys have a pretty short exposure period?

It was April so they were at their tail end of the their migration to the vernal pools. Once they are done spawning, they will travel back down in the ground because they are mole salamanders
