    Love the rocks and the scenery! That vintage North Stars hat is awesome, too! Your videos are great!

    Thank you for doing a video about Mille Lacs lake. Years ago I found a piece of topaz calcite in host rock at Mille Lacs.

      That's cool! The coolest thing I've ever found there was a bright red garnet crystal embedded in schist.

    I have only found 1 agate at Mille lacs . But it was a nice lil beach worn/polished one.
    Keep rockin!!👍😎

      It is a pretty crazy place. Although the lake is huge, the deepest spot is only like 40'. So, it's not very deep.

    I'm feeling a little better about our weather in Michigan after watching this. It's not warm here, but I was only seeing small piles of snow in my last two outings, no huge piles of ice like you have.

    @ 5:23 when you're looking at that quartz ball and contemplating the rougher crystals estimated exposure time, consider the brightest and whitest part as the most recent major impact to the surface of that ball. And the more transparent, rougher, darker and more easily identified crystals were likely exposed as a result of that impact and subsequent natural tumbling erosion of the crushed crystals that covered them. My guess is that it probably looked more like a "snow ball" as recently as earlier today! With almost absolute certainly, it took a hard hit this year. The whole ball is quartz crystals, and it used to belong to something much bigger. With rounded "beach rocks" we usually only find the hearts of bits and pieces that have broken away from their host/s long ago.

    • @99Rockhounding
      @99Rockhounding  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's really fascinating. I have very little doubt that the ice that was piled up there was the cause of that break. Thank you for the info!

    I'm a sucker for the green and pink myself great contrast and all but I respect selfcontrol. Good view although chilly it seems. We have a honey mustard yellow rock in my hometown that's very abundant but I never see the bandings you pull. Have a warm cup of tea will ya.

    I am impressed with your cold tolerance! That would be too cold for me. It was very interesting to see the erosion from the ice. Definitely moving some rocks around for you. I was really surprised by the quartz rock. It looks like a tumbled geode from my area… how’d it move upstream?! 😂

    • @99Rockhounding

    Please don't sacrifice your health or safety for the sake of your viewers! 2:50 There are large chunks of ice, leaning towards you! And you might want to consider waterproof gloves. Prolonged and/or repeated exposure to cold water could lead to frostbitten fingers with bone deep pain and surface numbness whenever the temperatures drop below 80 degrees F, for the rest of your life.

    • @mattwodziak1750
      @mattwodziak1750 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For frostbite to occur, the skin needs to freeze. That water can’t cause frostbite. He lives in MN. Pretty sure he understands the cold.

    • @Perfectionseeker1967
      @Perfectionseeker1967 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattwodziak1750 Maybe, maybe not. I don't think I've ever "frozen" my skin, but being from Wisconsin, I did work, play and hunt in the cold for many years. And for decades now, I've suffered from pain and numbness in my extremities as a result. Even in relatively warm temperatures.

    • @99Rockhounding
      @99Rockhounding  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate the concern. I will probably be investing in some decoy gloves in the future. I was also worried about the ice falling on me and actually went to spots where it wasn't nearly as tall.
