As terms composite only refers to material compositon it those NOT dictates other constuction elements, like length (short or long bow), or shape (recurved or not). Historically however it was very common for composite bows to be short and recurve, but not always. The opposite of the composite bow is a self-bow, made from single piece. All of this refers mostly to historical bows, so maybe take it with a grain of salt, but it should be applicable to all traditionally made bows even in modern times.
