How the fuck Dani remembers all these lyrics during live performances? I saw them performing this masterpiece and both two guitarists and the bassist were symmetrically headbanged...it truly was a spectacular show!
On a serious note IF the album had an uncompressed sound with a more analog - not too much think of their mid to late 90's sound, not early darkthrone - it would fucking destroy . Thing is most people DEMAND and expect typewriter beats
Imagine the whole song being sung with that high pitched Dusk-and-her-embracy voice. It would be right up there next to Funeral in Carpathia and all those other songs from the Vempire thru Cruelty era. No mistake, it's a brilliant new song and I love it, and I may be a picky bitch because I romanticize the past, but I would have loved to hear the whole song with those incredible, otherworldly vocals he still can come up with.
In my opinion, using the same high pitched vocal style would have been a mistake. There are so many changes in this song musically and tempo wise, it needed a variety of different vocal deliveries - or it would have not fit, and even grew a bit mundane.
Andi Pawlik Actually, singing in that style was kinda the downfall of Cradle in a way and shares similarities to Judas Priest, it's not futureproof. That's why I'd imagine these last 2 albums have taken a Principle of Evil approach to vocals. Lots of lows and not too many highs. That way he can actually sing these songs in the future. As someone who's heard the whole album 200 times at this point, I can say that his vocals generally sound like the first 5 minutes of this song throughout, however, when he does do screams, 80% of them sound distinctly old school. That's where the Principle of Evil comparison comes from. On that album he barely screams, but when he does, you're like holy shit, makes those particular parts memorable.
MindGamingMantis I agree with you on the point that doing high pitched screams all over wouldn't been fitting, I like the diversity from what I've seen so far from the two songs. Actually I like the mix of screaming and growling on Damnation and A Day a lot.
Frantic, exciting, brutal, beautiful. Classic. What an absolutely feverish pace near the end and my god that growl. Cradle is about to release a masterpiece. This is going to be fucking great.
metrulz1987 The album is top 3 or top 4 depending on whether you put it before or after Midian. It's going to surprise a lot of people. If I had to compare this song to one from Dusk in terms of caliber, I'd say this song is Cryptoriana's Heaven Torn Asunder or Haunted Shores.
MindGamingMantis excellently put with categorizing this song, especially at the end. It's easily the heaviest Cradle has been.. in a very, very long tim!
I M really really enjoing this album, i 'd put it in a ranking in their "second league" LPs with cruelty e midian (being the first untouchable league, principle, vempire and dusk).and I havent listened to Hammer of witches yet. Anyway they are on a good path of creativity and furiosity 👍
Yeah! I really like that album, but it's not one of my favorites. My favorites are Dusk and Her Embrace, Midan, Cruelty and the Beast and Nymphetamine. I've been a fan for over a decade haha.
I'm glad you guys are doing these more elaborate lyric videos that are themed to the song rather than the standard text to screen type. This makes it feel more like a proper music video without actually being one.
@6:20 that violent relentless emotion spewing out of Dani's mouth is so raw and fierce. Reminds me of Midian "tearing the veal from grace" right around the climax of that track towards the end. COF's true colors at work! /,,/ /,,/
Everyone is talking about how hard Dani went during the last segment of the song but FUCKING HOLY SHIT How in the world can you ignore the ungodly drumming that leads into that part?! You literally have to purposely ignore it
Originally come from Classic Heavy Metal. Came here due to Danis high screams and was just blown away by the great songwriting. Became a CoF fan right now. Amazing song \m/ \m/
Erik Gabriel sigh..... i was expecting a comment like this eventually... people say what they want to say, believe what they want to believe, no matter what proof to the contrary.. I,,I /,,/
It's not "bad" but I suppose you could say it basically sounds like most of their other work. Like "good" but "average" still. You'd have to be a huge fan to notice any nuances.
Ok, from a die hard 90s CoF fan, dissappointed with almost everything the brand released after, I'd say, 1999 - this is very good. Filled with variations, climaxes and different moments and moods. Excellent musicianship all along. And Dani seems to have learned to play with the cards he has (that final sequence sounds almost like the good olds days). It's good to see the name Cradle Of Filth producing some real good stuff once again.
Jaime Noro it's always interesting to me to hear from someone who has been there since the beginning. These opinions have more weight to me. Just curious, why didn't you like Damnation and a Day?
Damnation had some good epic moments, but overall lacked the haunting tone the previous efforts had. CoF's vampyric era felt more genuine in almost every aspect, every riff, synth melody and drum part had an effective role in song structure. The guitars were very black metal oriented, but had a kind of Iron Maiden harmony quality to it while being very tragic in mood. And Dani's voice was all pure raw power back then, which helped a lot giving the songs more feeling and depth. Cruelty and the Beast was the turning point on that regard. Midian already felt cheesy in comparison. Then came the more thrashy riffs, and slowly CoF lost, to me at least, the uniqueness which set it apart from every other band out there. Line up changes obviously made a big influence. For example, Nick Barker, who already was one of the best drummers in the world back then, left the band in 99. The guy was not only one of the best at drumming, but also at song arrangements as well (just listen to his work with Dimmu Borgir and Old Man's Child and you'l know what I'm talking about). CoF by 98 was a perfectly oiled machine which just fell apart when all of the sudden more than half the band left in 99 (something which had happened in 95 with very different results) CoF's returning to good shape can be explained by the excellent team Dani managed to put together, who obviously are fans of their early work and seek to reproduce some of its nuances through a more technical and modern approach. These guys are really good musicians.
the biggest problem for COF over the years was they turned into an almost joke outfit, circus act on stage/media. people forget in the 90's they were genuinely a dangerous band to mainstream society. now Slayer play RIB on mainstream talk shows. they have never made a truly bad album but Dani has righted the ship the last album and this one imo. the end section of this song brings back that haunting atmosphere and why we liked them in the first place.
This is masterpiece worthy material. When I noticed it was almost 7 1/2 minutes long I was sceptical, but I was hooked till the very end. Couldn't stop listening and watching.
This Cradle album is most excellent. Now the equivalent of a super band with the current line up. I hope it stays together for the rest of their existence.. I cannot express enough just how great Martin Skaroupka is.
Dani became his younger self, straight out of Midian with those last few moments on this track. That was fucking brilliant. This new Cradle is the best in so fucking long. Possibly even back to 'Cruelty', Dani has never sounded so raw in the last decade.
Cradle of Filth will always be my favorite band, hands down. From the first time I heard Desire in Violent Overture back in 2005, I went all out, listening to their old stuff and now their new, and I must say, I am obsessed with their work. In fact, I am infatuated with the band, I can't get enough! I listened to the Cryptoriana album 2,486 times already, I want more! lol
Cruelty and thee Beast? That was already topped by Dusk and her Embrace, Hammer of the Witches, The Manticore and Other Horrors, and several others. The new one will definitely top it. Cruelty and Midian are probably their two worst albums.
Cruelty doesn't have a bad production. in my opinion sounded better than Dusk production. for me worst album from cradle are Thornography and Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa, but I stopped enjoying cradle since Damnation and a Day. Every album since then wasn't good enough for me. After Paul left the band, Cradle started to sound a little much better. The last album was pretty good. This one sounds like a good album, even though I'm not sure about this song. so confusing.

+LolaTheHorror Mmhmm I'm sure, you and another creative mind thought of the same comment 30 minutes apart on this video, what a coincidence! CoF is no place for "like" fishing
I'm very satisfied with this song, I can already foresee myself playing this song over again, so far my favorite bits are at the 3:24 mark, 5:32 mark, and the ending, very dark gospel-esque
Damnatio ad bestias means Damnation of beasts in Latin and was used as a form of Roman capital punishment in which the condemned was ripped apart by wild beasts (like lions)
Dani's vocals at the end of the song are very 'Dusk...'-esque in their pitch. :) I really hope he returns to this vocal style even more in the future as they sound fucking excellent. Also, that low roar... Damn. Very 'Dusk...'-esque also!
This so far feels like cradle, last album wasn't to good I skipped it, but I might have to pick this one up, amazing so far, at least the 2 songs I heard
Here's the crazy part: there's still songs on the album that sound just as or even more old school than this and others that sound refreshingly new. Newest album is better than Hammer.
MindGamingMantis yea I've been listening to the album for almost a month now every single day. This is the best thing they've put out in years. This album is an absolute masterpiece and it's such a great time to be alive
That ending.... brought me back to being a kid again listening to Cradle of Filth for the first time. I have tears in my eyes, that was amazing
Yeah miss them vocals alot. Age is metals sworn enemy.
Yes!!! I got goosebumps for sure!!!
I simply love the literature in Cradle of Filths titles and lyrics
All the lyrics on this one are a product of Dani's love for Victorian horror literature.
So you have some good shit to look forward to.
So go listen to insane clown posse or some similar dimwit music. The advanced stuff is for adults.
21willyx21 - you got the point! regards
21willyx21 As a non-English speaker I don’t understand a holy bit of what he’s singing about
How the fuck Dani remembers all these lyrics during live performances? I saw them performing this masterpiece and both two guitarists and the bassist were symmetrically headbanged...it truly was a spectacular show!
Link? He screams just something like kya-kya-kya
He came in with brutal force! Now people should stop bitching about his voice.Great stuff
6:20 Dani's vocals are killer here
This band is Edgar Allan Poe of metal.
indeed
More like shakespeare's and other great poets start a band.
Or the Lovecraft of metal.
I understand what you’re saying but no one compares to Poe.
Their song A Gothic Romance adapts portions of several Poe stories and poems such as Annabel Lee, Masque of the Red Death and Ligeia 😃
I love typewriter blastbeats
Franklin Schwartz hahaha
the video producers were in on that joke...check out around 6:08
Franklin Schwartz IKR!
On a serious note IF the album had an uncompressed sound with a more analog - not too much think of their mid to late 90's sound, not early darkthrone - it would fucking destroy . Thing is most people DEMAND and expect typewriter beats
This is fucking magnificent. Fuck all these stupid ass comments
COF is in amazing shape! Just bought tickets to see them in Tokyo 😘😘😘
Dani during the last minute or two... he hasn't sounded that good in over a decade.
the whole album is out
Imagine the whole song being sung with that high pitched Dusk-and-her-embracy voice. It would be right up there next to Funeral in Carpathia and all those other songs from the Vempire thru Cruelty era. I condone listening to this song!
LOL
Sweet Lucifer the end of this song rips so hard it brought tears to my eyes. I'll forever scream along to the end verse until the day I die
The vocals starting around 6:20 are awesome! I would love to hear a whole song done in that style.
Michael Sorbello You hear their older stuff? Lol Damnation and a Day is pretty close to it.
Yeah! I really like that album, but it's not one of my favorites. My favorites are Dusk and Her Embrace, Midan, Cruelty and the Beast and Nymphetamine. I've been a fan for over a decade haha.
i think he's vocals in the principle of evil made flesh rerecorded version sound way more extreem from 2.50
He cant do thar anymore for too long. Loved this part too, reminded of really old times.
Aegrimonia Black That's my favorite album by them. Funeral in Carpathia is one of my all time favorites.
dani vocal always the best
I'm glad you guys are doing these more elaborate lyric videos that are themed to the song rather than the standard text to screen type. This makes it feel more like a proper music video without actually being one.

How in the world can you ignore the ungodly drumming that leads into that part?!
You literally have to purposely ignore it
That Pus sy Blast Beat (really what its called) he went into , after the 4 bar fill climax,,, during that screaming lyrical part is so fu kk ing epic
The hole song is epic, BUT THE ENDING..... that is another level of musical climax!
glad how they are back to those 7 minute opus songs and the opening riff had me hooked
Originally come from Classic Heavy Metal. Came here due to Danis high screams and was just blown away by the great songwriting. Became a CoF fan right now. Amazing song \m/ \m/
oh how my soul loves this stuff
Metal head Critics are gonna have a hard time trying to tell us why they dont like this masterpiece.....
SalmonBoa420 "sounds like shit!" "Why do you say that?" "Because fuck you!" Now that's some sound logic. :)
SalmonBoa420 I was making an example of what you were talking about.
Point is, there's always people that will say something sounds bad, but, they can never give you a reason why!
Ok, from a die hard 90s CoF fan, dissappointed with almost everything the brand released after, I'd say, 1999 - this is very good. Filled with variations, climaxes and different moments and moods. I think this is entirely accurate, very good effort to post all this. So true.
now we have to listen 5 or 6 minutes of blast beats in every song since nymp later releases for a "good" or decent COF playing? you joking me?
This is masterpiece worthy material. When I noticed it was almost 7 1/2 minutes long I was sceptical, but I was hooked till the very end. Couldn't stop listening and watching.
not a bad song. i love it
Absolutely love the choirs on this one! Defenetly got some damination & a day vibes on the chrous. Amazing song, looking forward to the album
Brutal, and amazing. Cradle, follow this path, your second golden youth is this way.
the video lyric video at least one of there best ...absolutely phenomenal
That vocals in the end dude!!!!
6:20 Danis vocals are the same pitch & tone as his song Haunted Shores from Dusk and her embrace from 1996 incredible 😳
This Cradle album is most excellent. Now the equivalent of a super band with the current line up. I hope it stays together for the rest of their existence.. I cannot express enough just how great Martin Skaroupka is.
An excellent song about excelent subject matter. The Maneaters of Tsavo is such a great topic.
I absolutely love this song!!!! amazing, especially the ending where Dani sounds like in the Dusk and Her Embrace era!! I love that vampiric howling!!
I like the old CoF songs and the new songs too. This song is awsome!
This song is like a culmination of every album released throughout the years and it's utterly badass. \m/
Dani became his younger self, straight out of Midian with those last few moments on this track. That was fucking brilliant. This new Cradle is the best in so fucking long.

I'm kinda feelin this sound they have, reminds me of Damnation and Midian which are my favs
I think this is the best that Dany's voice has ever sounded, and I think the current lineup COULD top Cruelty And The Beast.
Cruelty and thee Beast? That was already topped by Dusk and her Embrace, Hammer of the Witches, The Manticore and Other Horrors, and several others. The new one will definitely top it. Cruelty and Midian are probably their two worst albums.
Michael Hahahahaha what?! Manticore is one of their worst 2 albums, with Thornography being the other. Cruelty is a masterpiece with bad production.
you are crazy
Cruelty doesn't have a bad production. in my opinion sounded better than Dusk production. for me worst album from cradle are Thornography and Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa, but I stopped enjoying cradle since Damnation and a Day. "How Cradle got their groove back"
What is "Richard Shaw"?
Ashley Flynn YES! Richard is seriously the best--and easily the best live performer of the bunch.
I’ll take “Bands that got their shit together” for 500
@@LauraRodriguez-kv9np Stuart Anstis was better
Cradle of filth won't disappoint you..that's for sure..... this is so dark material....
Its been awhile since i had goosebumps listening to Cradle of Filth. Don't make it stop.
Very good track. Can't wait for the album.
Bravo dear Dani.. great job!
This tune slays! Thought Heartbreak and Seance was great but this is on another level. So pumped for the album!
Wow! A fantastic return to form for CoF. I seriously love this song! Great job.
excellent song by Cradle of Filth!! can't wait for the new album Hail Cradle!!
I love songs like this. Where they're more stories than songs. So neat.
It's not stories, it's poetry.
sounds like classic cradle to me... everything about this song is perfect COF
That chorus is very catchy. A great song. Now waiting for my digipak cd to arrive.
Dani's voice is getting better with age
Really good song... last part is a killer
LYRICS:
You will know the lion by his claw
Purring the sweet-tempered soughing
Of lucrative Savannah wind
Stirs the Great Flotsam of clouds that are vowing
To Usher the evening in
Affecting the set of the Reckoning sun
from Burnished gold to Crimson Hue
before this night is quiet sorely undone
The Devil is coming for you
Like a ghost haunting the darkness
stalking the veldt
where many kings were felled
a savage growling rakes this grassy vastness
Halting you in the tracks you've laid
to rule this fulsome world
Now silent as a whisper of smoke
Terror grips you by the throat
YOU WILL KNOW THE LION BY HIS CLAW
mistaking fake demeanour
was your first and fatal flaw
NEVER WILL THE HUNTER
EVER BE THE HUNTED
HERE OR EVERMORE
Taking my arena
Brought this Courted Slaughter to your door
I am Nature's great restorer First order Carnivora
Fate and foe, no time to mercy for she has fled
Tail tucked between her legs
Circled prey, recant and beg
to me alone, this powder keg
of teeth and jaws together
In a riot of a adventure
I am leonine and Ten commandments
Cut deep for your death
DAMNATIO AD BESTIAS
Through limitless whispering season
of redolent tropical plains
Whereupon mystery's blistery frieze
A silvering gibbous moon reigns
Aggressive, Obsessive to snuff out your lights
I come a cold virulent grue
Blighting your guides and delighting inside
on the pride that is tiding for you
As a beast feasting, it's own hunger
Under this spell
Rifles and fire shall not repel
Industrious Machinations rest asunder
no mirring me in traps well-laid
I'll not pale to unveil my hell
YOU WILL KNOW THE LION BY ITS CLAW
This violence is a plague of flame
Licking the brush to flush out game
A bellow of rage caged in yellow eyes
sees evil life seized, unleashed reprisal
YOU WILL KNOW THE LION BY HIS CLAW
Mistaking fake Demeanour
Was first and fatal flaw
NEVER WILL THE HUNTER
EVER BE THE HUNTED
HERE OR EVERMORE
Taking my arena
Brought this Courted Slaughter to your door
YOU WILL KNOW THE LION BY HIS CLAW
Now hear the Growing Thunder ROAR
DAMNATIO
AD BESTIAS
The walls of brackish thorn have fallen batterfang and chaos
Quick to marshal, maul the fools
Who stand by shattered loss
Your shadow scatters westward toward the
Fleeing stars
as a new dawn feeds upon the skies
Heraldic, Rampant, battle- scarred
Typewriter in this video is awesome. Black to essencial message and red to warning it is really fabulouse. Awesome song as always.
Excellent! As always!
Those last 2 minutes are so freaking awesome
Tout simplement l'un des meilleurs groupe au monde.Puissant et magique.
That's one of the coolest takes on a lyrics video I ever saw! Very good idea
I really like the ending. Sounds like something that could have been on Dusk... and Her Embrace. \m/
Best Dani ive heard in years!
This song really hit that musical G spot- Can't wait to see them preform this live!
I hearded this song on live last week... IS AWESOME
It isn't a real Cradle song when it doesn't start with YAAAAAAAAAHHHH.
But for real, great Song
ElvenGodFromHell sorry that this was the first thing I've noticed dude
+LolaTheHorror Mmhmm I'm sure, you and another creative mind thought of the same comment 30 minutes apart on this video, what a coincidence! CoF is no place for "like" fishing
ElvenGodFromHell I didn't even think about the comment, I thought about the other song they've put out. But hey, let's argue about irrelevant shit.
hue hue. small shit
ElvenGodFromHell obviously doesn't have anything else to do but complain about shit on youtube.
YAAAaaaaaaHhhhhh.... CoF did it again! Great song. The old days are back!!! This sound very promising for the new album. Hell YEAHHH!!!!
I'm very satisfied with this song, I can already foresee myself playing this song over again, so far my favorite bits are at the 3:24 mark, 5:32 mark, and the ending, very dark gospel-esque
I don't usually listen to cradle but I like the vibe of this one
Damnatio ad bestias means Damnation of beasts in Latin and was used as a form of Roman capital punishment in which the condemned was ripped apart by wild beasts (like lions)
Masterpice.cant wait for the album see you guys in November
You know it's a CoF song when it starts with a YAAAAAAAAAAAAA from Dani
Vladimort Bathory The fact that this, AND the other single starts that way is a great sign.
You know you lack creativity when you copy a popular comment from the previously released CoF song 👍
you know its a cradle of filth song when Cradle of Filth post the video saying it's their new song
Show me where that comment is! :)
I celebrate, that iconic bands still make good stuffs, keep the flame of metal burning.
AWESOME !!!!!
Proud to be long time fan...cheers wherever you are
YOOOO THAT LAST VERSE HAS THE BEST HIGHS IVE EVER HEARD AND I LISTEN TO SO MUCH METAL HOLY FUCK. WHEN HE SAID "LOSS" I FUCKING LOST IT
AND THE MAIN VERSES WITH THE BLAST BEATS ARE HEAVY AS FUCK I LOVE THIS SONG
yeah dude he hasnt screamed like that for so many albums. hes my hero lol
May Lions live forever!!!!!!!!!!!
Dani's vocals at the end of the song are very 'Dusk...'-esque in their pitch. :) I really hope he returns to this vocal style even more in the future as they sound fucking excellent.
Also, that low roar... Damn. Very 'Dusk...'-esque also!
COF went heavy on this one! Fuck yeah, we need more like this!!
Esse álbum ta FODDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Love this band. Can't wait for the album.
Beast 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
いやぁ…最高にかっこいいぜ…!
Schwarz 96 最高ねぇ!ところで、5月のライブに行かれますか。
Jajaj exactamente
Damn..beautiful
I don't even need to listen a lot from a song to know it's Cradle of Filth. Unique sound, loved them for more than 15 years now.
Awesome!
I swear Dani's scream at the end kept intensifying, bone-chilling!
wow love it!
This so far feels like cradle, last album wasn't to good I skipped it, but I might have to pick this one up, amazing so far, at least the 2 songs I heard
NEVER WILL THE HUNTER, EVER BE THE HUNTED, HERE OR EVERMOREEEEEE
MISTAKING FAKE DEMEANOR - WAS YOUR FIRST & FATAL FLAW (these lines play in my head all damn day!)
Best line since "All crime should be treasured if they bring thee pleasure somehow" 19 years ago.
Now hear the growing thonder... ROAR!
I love to hear, Dani is having his old voice back again!! Goosebumps
Through limitless whispering seas...
Of redolent tropical plains...
Whereupon mystery's blistery frieze...
A slivering gibbous moon reigns...
cant get out how brutal the ending is fking love it
The part after 05:40 is the best thing they've done since the Midian album
So far this is the best new cof record. Cant wait!
Reminds me of ''Midian''
Love this one!
Fantastic song. The replacing of the unimaginative Paul Allender with these two creative riffmaesters was the best thing they ever did.
Paul Allender is one of the best guitar players in metal.
Dani just sacked him because he was a control freak.
This material is fooking awesome
Here's the crazy part: there's still songs on the album that sound just as or even more old school than this and others that sound refreshingly new. Newest album is better than Hammer.
MindGamingMantis stop hyping me so much, I want to listen to it already :(
Glad to hear it. This and Heartbreak were fantastic; I keep coming back to them.
MindGamingMantis yea I've been listening to the album for almost a month now every single day. This is the best thing they've put out in years. This album is an absolute masterpiece and it's such a great time to be alive
Kendall What's your favorite song? Mine is Wester Vespertine, Achingly Beautiful and The Night at Catafulque Manor are tied for 2nd lol.
