Excellent, right to the point with no fluff. A 10 minute job when done right, thank you!

We have an 06 Honda Element. We took it to a dealership on an airbag recall, and, of course, they found a laundry list of repairs that "need to be done"............... Right. One of the items on the list is the rear brakes. Now... The fine young gentleman is trying to tell my husband that the rear brakes on the Honda Element has both a drum and disk brake combination on the rear brakes. We have never heard of this configuration before, which is what lead us to watch your video. It looks like your Element has the typical disk brake system. Do you know, or have you heard of any such brake system on a Honda Element?? Really scratching our heads over this one. Thanks!

the rear disc rotors on the Element are a combination disc/drum. The drum part is what's connected to your parking/emergency brake lever.

@@crxk20r59 the emergency brake is a shoe/drum setup that sits inside the rotor. The emergency brake system unless you use this for drifting should easily last the life of the vehicle. The cable that engages the emergency brake however may seize after 10 years+ or limited emergency brake use.

Joe Martin Okay makes sense, I’ve just never referred the part where the emergency cable connects to as “drum.” So it seems all of my cars that have rear disc brakes (example 1990 Honda CRX Si) essentially are drum as well since the ebrake cable connects to the “drum” part near the rotor. ThanKs for clarification. 👍

Great video. After the brake job did you have issues with the back plate? I have an 06 and and after my 2 previous brake jobs, I would get a noise from my passenger rear side. The dealer Sid they had to cut the rotor to adjust to the back plate. Also, is there a need to replace the rotor itself? When do you know to replace, only when it warps?

I have never had to adjust the back plate, never ever heard of having to cut the rotor. The rotor will need to be replaced if you wore the pads all the way down, where it was grinding metal to metal. But if you rotor is below thickness spec, it will need to be replaced. Sometimes you can get away with having them turned at a shop. Hope this helps.
