I somehow was under the impression that ARGO was going to be like ARMA2FREE back in the day (low res textures, no modding and no campaign but you had everything else like being able to play player made scenarios and make some of your own, plus multiplayer so long as its using vanilla only content )

@@peterscasny2803 it certainly is, it has all flaws of arma3 and only thing better is that it is free well, for a "demo" of arma 3 is "okayish' but as competetive shooter it realy sucks, the clunky controls work great in outdoor scenarios, but argo has more of indoor encounters and you cant just open the door and throw a grenade every time you want to clear a room now also add imput lag... you know where it is going

Every time i died in mp, i was killed from >= 500 meters away 😄. But in the open wide map it felt so natural. I don't know, i just loved Arma 2. Never had Arma 3 because my pc was too old and i got older. I played it for 30 min and it didn't feel that bad. But those are old memories 😄
it was such fun. As I already had many hours in Arma before Argo was released, I could take advantage of that experience and I used to finish first in almost every match hahaha. Using CTRL + W, A, S, or D to make use of the "special" positions was an enormous advantage. Being able to play dead with ctrl+s without anybody noticing I was shooting at them was amazingly fun. I have many good memories of that game. It's so sad it died that soon Edit: The soundtrack was really good as well
Bluedrake I hope you see this message. The Darkest Hour 44-45 Community could use your help. It's one of the most comprehensive and complete WW2 tactical combined arms game on the market, its easily accessed and STILL DEVELOPED. The game just got a new artillery update and the community is surging...However it is very very small and could use some more regular players. There is usually only 1 64 player server populated at any time and the game deserves more than that. Thank you!

Isn't it basically just Hell Let Loose at this point? I haven't played it in yeeeeears but looking at the screenshots it seems they're just trying to pull down the features from the newer games and make it run on what is now a pretty old engine. Which is great and all but, what's it bringing to the table that newer games don't have more potential to, with more audience?

Wow, haven't heard that name for years. I used to play Darkest Hour more than the vanilla RO1. The game was so intense, in one map(I think it was Gold beach or something), I literally have to crawl from the beach all the way inland just to avoid getting hit for the German MGs. Can't even sit up without getting hit. I think I might reinstall it to pay a visit.
@Oxygen Seller How many positions can you lean in? How about freelook? Ballistics modeled realistically like in arma where the wind affects bullets? Penetration too? Arma is still leagues ahead of other games when comparing most things. Insurgency only has good animations and sounds.
@@axlem4549 It might have all of those fancy things but looking at 5:26 then you can clearly see how even this straight forward free version has so clunky and delayed animations and overall feel that even if you can have epic bullet ballistics that are hyperrealistic then it doesn't matter because it translates poorly to actual gameplay

To the point that I forget just how clunky the controls are, but the running joke in this of all the overly complicated button presses reminds me of literally every time I've tried to teach someone else how to play Arma hahaha. One guy quit when I told him "It's easy to remember the compass button at least. It's K, K for Compass"

I just play Project:Reality. It's a pretty old engine. It's runs on battlefield 2 engine. It's a pretty fun Milsim game. It's completely free and has frequently updates in a couple of month.

Simply amazing, something no other MilSim games will ever get to reach! Is silly and serious, fast and slow, realistic and incredible. It has one of the best communities ever and SO much content xP
Exactly, Arma 3 is one of those games that will never get old. Even with it's limitations with AI and oh lord the terrible optimization... But for all the free content and fixes you can find in the workshop, makes the game worth it 100%
and guess what, my friends said that this Arma game was shit to GTA (in terms of shooting) and COD Warzone. Maybe they just like 1-minute spawn killing more than 20 guys :V

Problem with ARMA III and this here is that the engine in question still remembers original Operation Flashpoint. Of course it evolved graphic and animation wise, but the core is still the same and it didn't age well...
I really wish that when Arma 4 comes out they implement features from this into it because its pretty sad that this died so quickly. Most likely because arma 3 was so clunky to new people :/

Project Argo still have around 70-100 peoples playing if you like to join small community of players then you can still download on steam and play with others.
Agree with you here mate, Amra has been my go to for years, but having Argo felt like fresh change, I've now ventured over to the Warlords Arma mod as my go to.
I never had a problem with input lag, but nobody had a bloody clue how to play and there wasn't any tutorials that I can recall. Just kinda get dropped in the middle of a warzone and shoot at stuff, die, repeat.

What I also like about ARMA 3, besides the aforementioned reasons, is that it *isn’t* the same old same old America vs Russia, AR vs AK, Abrams vs T-90.
I backed this game when it came out and it was seriously the most fun first person shooter i have ever played, it delivered everything i wanted and I seriously wish this game was still alive today.
Man ARGO was awesome, it was my first real foray into ARMA and I had a blast doing the combat patrol mode or whatever it was where it was a co op team finding crashed remnants of a space station whilst fighting a platoon of paramilitaries. I had so much fun doing it with the few aussies that played on the servers.
hilariously all the basics to ArmA and Argo are very straight forward controls wise. The hardest to figure out stuff is the stance shifts probably. The issue I feel ArmA and Argo would have is the slav jank and how it FEELS. It's control scheme can be modified so I don't understand the reoccuring hyperbole for stuff that is a single key for ArmA and Argo though lol.
I remember this but the one thing that annoyed me is the lack of keybinding. i keybind every control on every game to custom because its what im use to and i hated that "I" was for inventory (yes i know thats default but i had it as left shift) great game though
I actually own a Portuguese community in Argo. Its like a semi-realistic roleplay. We try to make it somewhat like arma by making custom missions with the editor and stuff. Its actually crazy fun.
Used to be in closed beta for that game, It was great fun, and didn't kill my computer like arma 3 did, it was sad to see that game die basically after the beta was over
Payday 2 was made on an engine designed for racing games lol. The engine really doesn't matter as long as it can render in 3D, you can make a standard FPS in any 3D game engine. So the engine has nothing to do with being able to make a standard FPS it's just if the developer(s) wants to make it, that's literally all it comes down to.
Argo might be the competitor to Insurgency Sandstorm and Liberal-field V if they do a BF4 styled progression system, updated optimization, and the most important thing in Bohemia history is Bohemia Interactive DOESN'T deal with the eastern Soviets (A.K.A., Chiner.)
Finally someone talking about argo. I played argo from the birth to the death, and i loved that game, sometimes i download the game again and try to play but the only available mode is shit(patrol). i used to destroy on that game

Games have gotten dumbed down more and more ever since Battlefield came out. Arma is a true tactical FPS and about the best replacement since Raven Shield or Ghost Recon. Games now are not about skill so much as perks and rewards and game mechanics that not everybody can understand.

I actually played Argo a lot back then. I really enjoyed it a lot. Only real gripe I had was that I could not change my fov it seemed. I just made due with that fact and just played anyways and just got over the too tight fov.
I played it when I didn't even know tactical shooters existed a few years ago and had no idea what I was doing lol. Kept trying to shoot team mates and took me an hour to leave where I spawned on a helicopter just to crash a few minutes later lol
What happned to your arma Project reality mod ? with logistics and all that ? i remeber you could fill up the inventory of boxes and fill them up into planes and stuff. it looked awesome.

I loved this.... The game modes were really nice! A 5v5 6v6 mode in any tactical shooter like this is a winner.

Arma engine has the worst delay between click of mouse and firing, iirc.
Compared to pretty much all other fps.
It died fast because it had the same gunplay as arma which is the main reason people find it hard to get into arma

Yeah I remember Argo it was pretty alright for a cqb mode. They also had a free version of ARMA II back in the day as well.
I played this a long time ago, the player base wasn't big even then. I didn't really know what I was doing and uninstalled it after like 3 hours

I play it alot mainly on the combat patrol servers the PVP servers are full of lvl 25 players with best guns.
Lol i tired playing it a couple years ago and it wouldn’t let me but i don’t remember what the issue was
